Hmmm I don't know if it was in the chapter's end notes and I missed it but...nooo 😭 why would you do me like that? What do you mean that was the end of the set up? I new we had it too good, almost a third of the fic being peaceful-ish and them being a superb duo. I was waiting for the other shpe to drop but I got lulled into a sense of security by seeing them be adorable. I'm halfway through the next chapter and I was still blissfully unaware :')
About this chapter though, I think I shouldn't talk more or I'm going to start sounding crazy (I am very very sorry for the massive comment I let you, I hope I didn't ramble too much).
First off Unicorns!! How lovely to see these creatures. Is that 1st gen? I remember them having lateral strips for their stomachs before turning all smooth. The idea of unicorns being made of cables and electronics being able to be operated on is so interesting. Especially still being conscious while Zargothrax is hands deep in her belly.
And talking of Zargothrax. The yoga pants, the sandals, the black tshirt, the hair bun? Amazing. Man is gorgeous at all time of day and night no matter what he wears. And again with the wristband but this time it's glowing. So I'm guessing it's like a wizard phone/database of some sort? And the wheels of his plank being magical too haha. That is so awesome.
Goodness is Ralathor thin! And so so simple in his clothing choice (but you can still see texture so he isn't fashion sense-less). Also I just really love his long hair. Everytime you draw long haired Ralathor I smile.
Love the background once again. It's so simple and obvious but it works perfectly. The open toolbox, the note stuck to the wall when they have a ridiculous amount of screens, the extremely cool looking power source under the desk (and is that a frog on it ?!??!) Gosh I love everything about your illustrations 😅
Another thing I want to say about unicorns (because how can you not love them). In this fic so far we haven't met many other people/creature out of Ralathor and Zargothrax. The wizard telling Zargy Ralathor will be his scion had no name, there were just people in the street of cowdenbeath, and the smith's name in passing, but Zargothrax showed much more interest in the unicorns than he did most things so far. That got me thinking. He said the unicorns on earth, especially his (and Ralathor's by virtue of living with his) showed a level of personality they wouldn't be able to on Mezchinhar. He is now shown taking the time to improve her but also respond to her when she reacts to him tampering with her circuits. He seems to love unicorns a lot. So when you are reminded that he corrupted them into undead unicorns...I wonder how much out of love this was done. Not to harm them but to allow them to live with him in harmony. I don't know seeing him now he doesn't seem like the type to hurt a unicorn.
Hmmm~ 💖 Some slight tension but still, everything is fine. Savor the moment where everything is still alright…because this is the end of the “set up” - troubles will start happening next week~
#King what are you doing to me#I have too much sympathy for Zargothrax#It makes it so hard to reconcile the fact that this gentle unicorn-loving man and the sorcerer that was hellbent on killing angus are the s#Makes me wonder why he didn't think to seek out Achnasheen during The Warrior

@dvarapala requested.
Anya had been in the port of Achnasheen many a time, she knew this was not a good place to pick up stragglers in any capacity. But there was something about the girl in front of her... She fitted in too well... as if she was trying too hard... as if she was hiding something.
Maybe it was because she had been raised in the cathedral, maybe it was a sixth sense that had been beaten into her in those dreadful dungeons, but she was more than sure something was off here. Something magical. And that always smelled like money to be made.
"You look a little lost, dear. Looking for someone?"

“A Thankyou Note”: April poem #27, 2023. We honeymooned in Scotland, where one day we met a kind person. I wish he could read this poem, wherever he is now. Towards the end I was thinking of Robert Burns’s great lines: “The rank is but the guinea’s stamp/The Man’s the gowd for a’ that”.
A Thankyou Note
Sixth day of our rainy Highland honeymoon.
Why had we hired that tiny Riley Elf
to ferry a five-foot bride and her six-foot groom?
It kept overheating; we drew up at the side
of the narrow, wriggling, switchback road to Achnasheen,
the little round gauge quivering, us groaning,
banging the steering wheel, the radiator steaming.
I can see him now, the smiling young Scot
with his dark curly hair, who pulled up to help
and produced a can. We scrambled together down
to the peaty amber rush of a stream, scooped up water
for the radiator, topped it up, peering under the little bonnet.
Maybe it was the sudden togetherness in a lonely place
him careless of the mud on his shoes,
my need to make things right for her, his generosity
that has stamped him onto my memory
for fifty-five years, bright as a king on a coin
despite the rubbing of the years.

So I'm looking at places mentioned in Gloryhammer songs and trying to figure out roughly how long it would take to get from Achnasheen to Caithness, etc, and seriously it would have taken Angus almost a full 24 hours on foot to get from Dundee to the "volcano" Schiehallion to throw himself in? That's some slow-acting evil in the Knife of Evil, man.

The loco had earlier worked the the 10:47 Inverness - Kyle then ran light back to Achnasheen to collect these wagons and take them to Kyle, before hauling the 17:10 Kyle - Inverness.

Break in the storm by Russell Homans Via Flickr: This is an image from Glen Docherty view point towards Loch Maree. There was quite a storm and it would be a great story to tell of battling the elements to get an image but all i did was stop the car and wait for a break in the rain.

So apparently I finally found out what the hell happened when I was in Scotland in October and some weird travel bullshit happened trying to get back from Skye
Apparently this
Someone on Reddit worked out the road we got lost on, then someone else legit found the tunnel I remember getting stuck in a convoy for, a convoy we tried to back out but we got stuck in a loop then we had to go through this and then I honestly remember very little of the rest of the journey.
I still suspect the fairies had a part in it.

I would love to see more of your version of the pureblood directory please
Hello! Oh thanks so much - this is super fun to write, but takes a lot of research and worldbuilding and aligning dates so progress is very (very) slow. But! I have a little extract for you, taken from the long, long entry of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black:
ALEXANDER THE BLACK, Lord of the Isles; having opposed the muggle King Robert the Bruce, he and his seven sons were driven from the muggle world and cut off from the succession. He d. 1325, and was succeeded by his eldest son and heir, JOHN THE BLACK, who had his right to Castle Black, built and concealed by his father in the Highlands of Scotland, acknowledged in 1334 after a lawsuit of thirteen years’ duration. He d. 1365, and was succeeded by his son and heir, ANGUS THE BLACK, who was summoned to the Wizards’ Council in 1374. He is said to have distinguished himself against the Giants at the Siege of Upper Barnton, 1410. He d. of his injuries 1410 and was succeeded by his son and heir, FULKE THE BLACK, then a minor. He is said to have instituted the tradition of bestowing celestial names upon the children of the House of Black. He was drowned in a well at Achnasheen, leaving with other issue, a son and heir, REGULUS THE BLACK, The Black Knight; made Knight of the Order of the Plimpies, 1449. Regulus accompanied Ekrizdis on his expeditions across the North Sea to found the fortress of Azkaban. A letter from him to that Dark Wizard is preserved in the National Museum of Magic. Regulus d. 1478. By his 1st wife, Blythe, he left a large family. Of these was Berenice Black, alchemist, licensed by King Henry VI to transmute metals into gold and silver.

Anya - Sainted by the Storm
… on the holy light of the cathedral, I will neither judge nor harm an innocent…
as far as d.umblr verses are concerned Anya is either a member of the salt crew, a pirate gang, or captain of her own ship - the Dawnstrider.
She was trained in the art of hunting demons by the cathedral before she left the life of a paladin squire behind. She does not know where her brother Matvey is, since they were separated when they were children. She thinks him dead, either killed by the cathedral or the dark.
Anya was raised on a merchant ship after hiding as a stow-away and if she is not out at sea she frequents both the port of Achnasheen - the field of storms - as well as the water graveyard out in the bay. More information on her is available upon request as I have decided to not share her full bio on this site.
… for the sea is vast and eternal, it does not concern itself with the blight of men…
connected NPCs:
members of the salt crew.
the crew of the Dawnstrider.
Matvey and the mages.
#did I get up before 5:30 twice in a row to write before work? yes yes I did; and look I am working on the blog#I am not sure whether or not I want to make Anya Prota of a story; so you get the short version#x though there be fury on the waves x anya#she lived on 3 ships so far and the dark has destroyed 2 of them so... she might be a bit reserved at first
