Simon Riley, the one person that everyone collectively agrees that they had no idea of what he looks like? Of course rumors roam the halls, “I heard it’s brown” “Brown on Brown? Nah It’s gotta be blonde” “heard he’s missin’ half his jaw”

Hell, Price isn’t even sure if he’s seen Simon, sure he’s seen this random man in the halls on early mornings so he had just assumed it to be him…though he was never sure. Then of course Johnny should hypothetically know what the Man he slept with should look like, right? Well…not exactly, but boy did that man know his eyes.

Till that mission it wasn’t even an issue, why would it be? To each their own, his privacy is his own or…something. Until someone with the exact same voice, the exact same build, the same gear and the same eyes found their way in his spot.

So that is how Simon Riley found himself being interrogated by his own team, waking in that dingy cell he knew like the back of his hand, the knives where he knew the veins laid, tendons weakened by their naivety, muscles atrophied as even the walls knew that the roles were wrong.

“This doesn’t gotta be hard, Korin.” he heard himself say, the imposing frame casting a shadow in front of him.

His head spun, “What?”

“Tell us what you know, and you can go home.”

“No…I mean what the bloody fuck are you doing in my fucking gear-“ The sound of the door clanging shut behind someone cut him off.

The silence hung for a moment, eyes Simon only ever saw softened for him hardened, cold, ruthless- as if they only wished him the worst death imaginable. It was haunting. Till Johnny finally spoke, or at the very least looked like he was about to attempt to do so, yet he cut him off.

“What. Is. Going. ON?”

First off, you were perfectly content with your life, you had your baby daddy sending you close to 2 grand a month for your daughter and you lived a stable and healthy life. You had your home and your friends, your days in the military long behind you and thrice weekly therapy sessions the only real downside to it all.

That was until Kate fucking Laswell showed up on your doorstep, and you tried to shut the door- but she managed to get her way inside.

She nods her head, pinching the bridge of her nose, “I know. This is…nationally security though and all we need you to do is ID him.”

To that you falter, “he…What…what happened? Is…”

“Oh no no, he’s alive, just…we..don’t know what he looks like and there seems to be two of him.”

….that seemed absurd, so you laughed. “Medical records?” No photos. “Family?” Passed, or clinically insane. “Photos?” None. You went through every option you could think of and there was no solution expect for the man former girlfriend.

So that is how you ended up walking through the corridors of the local military base, your daughter’s head heavy on your shoulder as she slept through it all- you may not trust her father, but you trusted your captain.

You barely look up from the folder, brief mission details, and knew men in front of you, one was very obviously Simon, and there other was one that looked strikingly similar. Yet so different. You look between them both, eyes staring at the man who wronged so you deeply and profoundly that you doubt you would ever sleep soundly again.

The train of thought you rode was broken as you heard Price ask you for the answer, and you knew if you lied Simon would be forced to endure torture for information he didn’t know, live life in a prison.

“I don’t know who you are, but you are not Simon Riley.”

“One and a half.”

You stare at the imposter, “Three or I go snitch.”

“And rat yourself out as a lair?” He retorted with a laugh, scribbling in the check book. To the naked eye would seem like a very angry and heated conversation between two former lovers, quite the opposite. “Two is fine. And yearly?”

“Sounds fine. “

“Good doing business with you Miss…?”

With a quick snatch of the check you look it over, “Riley.”

“Oh?”

“Simon may have ruined my life, but at the very least he made sure I still get free insurance and housing.”

Whether you’re traveling domestically or heading abroad, feeling your best at your destination means you’ll get the most out of your trip. Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still out there, and cases are expected to climb again as we head into the winter months. By now you’re likely aware of basic COVID prevention strategies, but air travel presents unique challenges that can be tricky to navigate.

Luckily, you can take steps to lower the odds of picking up the illness on your next flight. To help you do just that, we asked doctors and health policy researchers how they lower their COVID risk while flying. Here’s what they recommend.

Wear a mask—before you’re even on the plane Many of us know this already, but it’s worth recalling: Research has found that wearing a well-fitting, high-quality mask like an N95 or KN95 lowers your chances of picking up COVID-19 by 83%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But when you wear a mask during your travels matters, says William Schaffner, MD, an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

“You really want to use your mask consistently around others, whether you’re in the airport or on that plane,” he says. Thomas A. Russo, MD, professor and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University at Buffalo’s medical school, agrees. “Think about the whole process when you fly—going through the airport, checking in, boarding the plane, and being on the plane—you’re going to interact with people from all parts of the world… There’s a risk you might get COVID,” he says.

You can help protect yourself by always keeping your mask on—and wearing a relatively new one. Compared to a mask that’s gotten a lot of use, a fresh one will fit more snugly around the nose, cheeks, and chin and, in turn, catch particles more effectively.

Put the air vent to good use If you prefer not to wear a mask, you should take steps to protect yourself in other ways. For example, after you get to your seat, adjust the vent so the air blows over your face, suggests Sheldon H. Jacobson, PhD, a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign professor and researcher whose work includes using data-driven risk assessments to inform public health policy.

Dr. Jacobson says most airplanes use high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that catch microbes. Plus, cabin air is refreshed every few minutes, and a good portion comes from outside the aircraft. As a result, what blows out of the vents is pretty fresh. This strategy also keeps the air around you moving faster, meaning there’s less time for you to inhale any possible germs in the cabin, according to Dr. Jacobson. Still, if the person sitting next to you is coughing and sneezing, it’s best to wear a mask if you have one, he says. The filtration system can only do so much in that instance—and it’s not always on before takeoff and after landing.

Be mindful about how you eat and drink If you can, Dr. Russo suggests eating before you get to the airport to lessen the number of times you’ll need to remove your mask when you’re around other people. If you need to dine at the airport, Dr. Schaffner recommends looking for seating away from crowded areas.

When masks were still required for air travel, the suggested strategy for eating and drinking on board was to wait until your fellow fliers finished their snacks and refreshments. But now, Dr. Russo points out, the people around you may not mask up at all. Instead, he suggests dropping your mask, taking a sip or bite, and immediately pulling it back up. This lowers the odds you’ll breathe in viral particles that may be floating around, he explains.

Plan your vaccine around your trip Dr. Schaffner and Dr. Russo recommend getting the updated COVID-19 vaccine about two weeks before your trip. “It’s a good strategy,” Dr. Russo says. It usually takes 14 days or so for your body to build up immunity to COVID after getting vaccinated, according to the World Health Organization. This means your body should be ready to fight the virus by the time you fly, Dr. Russo says. Immunity also fades over time, making the timing of your shot important, he says.

Wash your hands…a lot Experts say you’re more likely to get COVID-19 from breathing in infectious droplets and particles than from touching things. But there’s still a chance you could get sick if you happen to touch a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose, or mouth.

“What we’ve learned is that transmission from this virus from inanimate objects is very low, but it’s not zero,” Dr. Russo says. That’s why he recommends good hand hygiene while flying. You should wash your hands with soap and water, making sure to scrub for at least 20 seconds, and do so often: before and after security, whenever you use the bathroom, and before eating or touching your face. Hand sanitizer is also a good option in a pinch, Dr. Russo says. But he stresses that keeping your hands clean shouldn’t replace masking up. “It’s much, much less helpful than wearing a mask,” he says.

A strange clicking noise came from the back of his throat. She felt a worm slide up her neck as he held her there, the trail of slime cool against her skin. Panic rose in her throat, blacking out all thought, and she thrashed against the hold. His grip tightened, viselike. Whatever those things had done to Doubles, she did not want done to her.

Loch has always struggled with jedi master Korin’s lessons on letting go of her emotions. But as a mission to assassinate the geonosian queen goes horribly awry, she’s going to need to step up if she wants her squad to make it out alive.”

I’ve spent over a year writing this fic on and off, and it’s finally done! I’m really proud of it, and really happy I got back into writing after all of these years. It’s about me and sailor’s joint Star Wars OCs, finding yourself, and how love makes us stronger. I hope that you enjoy it too.

Modern/Domestic AFK Journey AU

If any of you are planning on writing a modern afkj au, please consider the following ideas I have floating around my head:

Tired single parent Merlin and their two extremely spoilt but polite kids, Chippy and Hammie.

Cool aunt Dolly who runs the local coffee shop and babysits while Merlin is at work (Merlin is a college professor and a damn good one at that).

Longsuffering mayor Hogan and his 'bad boy' nephew Valen.

(Valen hasn't actually done anything bad, he's just a dumb 20-something year old that keeps ending up in the newspaper).

Chippy and Hammie attempting to set their mum/dad/parent up with somone (Dolly probably helped, but you can't prove anything).

Atleast half the afkj cast being completely down bad for this absolute milf/dilf (/pilf??).

If your main ship is w/ Korin, imagine veteran Korin just moving to town to start a new, quiet life with his adoptive son Damian.

He and Merlin could bond over what it's like to be single parents, and maybe there's some cute domestic moments where Korin realizes that he can actually see them as one big happy family.

Or if you're more into Mirael, Chippy and Hammie deciding to set Merlin up with their pre-school teacher (who happened to have a massive crush on Merlin back in highschool).

If it's Hogan, I would love to keep the whole 'old friend' vibe and maybe have Merlin be the person he goes to for advice, having known Merlin for almost a decade and trusting their judgment more than anyone elses.

But also, the absolute drama of Valen falling in love with Merlin and needing to get his act together and be a family man (something he thought he didn't want before, but is now realizing he wants more than anything). And Hogan being worried about it because he doesn't want either of them to get hurt.

We dont talk enough about the fact that Goku wasnt born strong. Gohan, Vegeta, Broly, Goten, Trunks... all born with innate strength. But Goku... Goku was weak. His entire life growing up, there was ALWAYS someone stronger than him.

For a saiyan to be outmatched by earthlings... ridiculous. But he was. Several times over. Every bit of strength Goku has, he had to work for, train relentlessly for. Its easy to forget because hes so strong now and continiously comes out ahead. But thats the POINT.

Vegeta grew up knowing he was the pride of the saiyan race, born strong, elite, a prodigy. He was hopelessly outmatched by frieza and some of his army, but for a saiyan, vegeta was the strongest (or so he believed).

Because the saiyans put so much belief into power you were born with, power you were destined to have. You either had strength or you didnt. And Goku didnt. So he was third class. His destiny wasnt power, it was weakness.

Its why Vegeta is so constantly thrown off by and therefore obsessed with Goku in the beginning. Because how could someone born so weak be THIS strong? It didnt make sense.

Then we have Gohan, born with incredible hidden reserves of power. Unlike Goku, Gohan was born with potential. His strength was always there. And sure, he had to work incredibly hard to unlock it but its a story arc we keep seeing repeated with gohan. Either its unlocked with anger or someone unlocks it for him (the grand elder, old kai, etc.)

And then Goten and Trunks, both super saiyan by the age of 7. Power came EASY to them. It was as natural as breathing. Goku, Vegeta, and even Gohan all struggled to reach super saiyan. It took a toll. But Trunks and Goten take that power from literal legend and make it a game.

No one has ever had to work as hard as Goku to achieve strength. And you can argue with me on this all day long if you want to. He didnt have hidden powers. There were no hidden reserves, no one to unlock his innate abilities. When he was a child, his unnatural strength compared to human made him special. But for a saiyan, goku was one of the lowest of their race.

Every bit of strength, every morsel of power in gokus body, was built through training. He didnt unlock hidden potentials, HE CREATED them. Its why Goku is the mortal who figures out how to unlock ultra instinct. Because he almost never won a battle purely based off a sheer power, no. Goku had to be smart, needed to be clever. He was forced to hone technique just as much as power, was taught by all his masters the importance of harnessing his mind as well as his body. He grew up meditating, sensing energy, learning not to rely on his eyes, but all his senses. He was training to filter out his own extra unnecessary movements all the way back when he first met Korin and then later again with Kami.

Goku lost fights a lot. All the time. But everytime he lost, he learned. Because he was forced too. Because when Goku lost, there was no backup. He was it. And so he would HAVE to come back stronger, have to find the way to win. Or everyone would be dead.

Maybe its just me but i just think theres something incredibly special about a saiyan labeled as "weak," a saiyan no one bothered to pay any mind to being the first to become legend. He avenged their entire race. That little boy with a tail, born with a power level of 2, became the strongest of them all.

Korin as a boyfriend 

Not quite dilf energy, Uilf maybe? 

Korin is a rather awkward fellow. Not quite like Valen, but still just as charming. He’s a bit shy, through and through. He also likely has more experience with romance from his youth. 

He’s not really the sort to ask about your likes and dislikes directly, like a normal person, instead he just kind of guesses or asks people around you. Like with Damien. Only with a lot more teasing. 

Because of Korin’s time with the camp, he also has a small army of the elderly and children giving him advice and suggestions. Sometimes they will come and just so happen to ask you a question, only to nod and leave after giving your answer, not a day after, Korin will have something for you. 

Damien is also his wingman, btw, much to Korin’s chagrin. He likes to insert himself into spending time with the both of you. After a while, you might be considered his family.

Korin sometimes worries about his hands, they are made of vines and tree bark, he’s worried about giving you splinters just by touching you. As a result, he’s very, very gentle around you. He’ll brush leaves from your head, barely grazing your skin, or take your hand as if it was a flower petal. 

If you take his hand, he goes very quiet, he can’t quite feel your skin, but he can feel the pressure, and it’s really reassuring in a way he can’t describe. 

I think he likes his face touched a lot, a sudden kiss on the cheek can render him speechless and dazed for the rest of the day. He also nuzzles into you quite a bit, his beard and moustache scratching you gently.  

I think most of the AFK lightbearer men have acts of service as a love language in some way or the other. Korin in particular loves to cook for you, and most dates are dinners he prepares himself, and sometimes with you helping him cook and wash up. 

Dates with Korin tend to be at home, I think, or in an isolated place in the woods. He feels most at home there, most himself. He also doesn’t do much PDA, but the amount of care he gives you alone will show how much he loves you.
