Can't refind the post in the tag, but I remember a few days back there was a question about Xu Shanshan and whether she originally died or not. My kneejerk reaction was that she didn't simply because there wasn't the focus you'd expect for them changing what you'd think would be a major node. However, I was only able to figure out what I think *actually* happened here now, several days after the fact.

The main issue is that Lu Guang lost connection with Xu Shanshan. We know he can maintain a connection when someone is unconscious (as Cheng Xiaoshi demonstrated both with Emma and Doudou), he just can't see anything until they awaken. So, initially, I thought perhaps XSS was just knocked out past the end of the twelve hours. And tbf, I don't think that can be entirely discarded. But I think it's much less likely now we have certain knowledge from season two and if we pay attention to Lu Guang's wording (translations, don't fail me now).

Lu Guang says he *lost the connection* with XSS and that's why he presumed the worst. In s1, we haven't seen this happen before. But we do see something similar in season two. When Lu Guang tries to read Li Tianxi's photo, he struggles and isn't able to see far enough to guide CXS before he dives. He put it down to his injuries at the time, but looking at the context of the dive, where CXS faced disruption (eventually being kicked out entirely) and at one point was unable to communicate with LG, it seems likely his struggle was more to do with the twins' powers not playing well with his own instead.

So, my suggestion is that the solution to this s1 dilemma is found in s2. Lu Guang losing connection with XSS was as a result of her interacting with the twins. This could be through a number of different routes:

Through interaction with possessed Liu Min (bit of a stretch but tbf even in the twin dive the disruption is kinda inconsistent in terms of which powers are being affected and whom by);

If she was taken to Li Tianchen directly when hidden away;

If LTC switched his possession to XSS once he decided to hide her away (using the very prominently displayed public photo of XSS in the newspaper).
