Hi!! Thank you so so so much for your precious thoughts!! You are inspiring me to think more about my favourite female characters. I’m delighted to find a reason to explore my girls. I’m sooo happy and grateful because of your posts
Please enlighten me what your favourite pieces of media (books, movies, games, whatever!!) in which a woman will be a main character. Is there anything you can recommend to develop feminist views?
Have a great day!! I hope you’ll always have enough inspiration to share with your wonderful ideas 🤲💖
Oh thank you so much! 🥹 I'm so happy that you enjoy and are having fun with my silliness! It makes my day! And I'm happy that it inspires YOU to create and have fun as well!
And well like, with Media with female main characters, well... I really love the Odyssey (ofc), Fairy Tail (it imprinted on me while young and I really love the story and the characters. I'm not a fan of the fanservice), Legend of Zelda, and LotR and PotC. ngl, sadly a lot of the media I enjoy probably don't technically have women as their leads. (I will fight everyone that Lucy Heartfilia is the main character of Fairy Tail but I know that some folks don't agree :') )
It's not that like, I avoid books with female leads. ofc not, it's just that as of recently, I've sadly noticed that so many things are like, more focusing about the fact that "I'm a girl and the world is against me!" when like... Why does being a girl have to change the story?
But like...That's kind of where I love coming into play >:3
As like, for example, Penelope isn't technically there for all the books in the Odyssey right? and yet, I'm having so so much fun playing with her and going nuts about her. If the fandom won't have her center stage then I will.
I don't really think it's about like, "finding specific things with female leads" always. Sometimes it's finding a world you love in story and then just... find a lovely girl and playing with her? And/or focusing on her when she may not be the main focus?
And honestly, I don't know the specifics on like, HOW to exactly develop feminist views. I'm not an expert and/or someone who has merit when it comes to discussions like that other than my own personal thoughts and opinions and just various things I've picked up along the way.
In general, I think the best way to approach media is if you like the story, just go for it. Play along with it. Even if there's not a lot of women in it, you can (and honestly should! it's fun!) find that silly gal and think of HER place in the story. In the world she's in. And women don't have to always be on the battlefield to deeply affect the plot.
I'm sorry if this is all over the place but I'm trying to answer the best I can with what I've got :'D I cannot stress enough that I'm simply a very passionate goober about how women just... existing. As a whole, I love humanity, people in general regardless of gender. I think it's really beautiful how complex we are and our histories and cultures and just LIFE. And the fact that so many people often ignore or devalue what women do and have done, for whatever reason, is just really frustrating and absurd to me. So I just... get silly with it!
Also imo, I think stuff is truly feminist when like, women don't have to fight to be respected you know? I know that's the history of feminism but like, I often get frustrated with how many stories will have this whole "I'm a girl and therefore I have no one respects me and everyone hates me and so that's why I absolutely destroy and become so girlboss", when it's like?? If this is a fantasy setting for example...Why can't we just do away with sexism in this universe? Why can't this story just be about a girl doing something and it has nothing to do with her gender? Women are people, and we deserve to have normal people stories. We HAVE people stories.
Either way, I hope you have fun creating and getting silly with lovely ladies :3 It's so much fun!
