Okay, in all fairness, I'm usually not this unhinged productive. Last year, for instance, my total word count was only around 250k (iirc). I'm sure I wrote more than that from 2018 to 2020, but my logs from those are divided by fics/chapters or weekly.

... I've, uh, tried a lot of shit over the years.

Which is an important point! I've been posting to ao3 for nearly a decade now (not consistently, but I don't think I was away for more than a year or two), and I've been writing in some capacity for around 15–17 years now. There's been a lot of trial and error over the years, plus changing life circumstances leading to varying energy levels and writing time. The main factor is inspiration; if it's there, I'll write a lot, but if not, I'll be a potato.

So with all that in mind!

Logs

I do keep track of both my word count and my WIPs. I've got color-coded docs and spreadsheets even because I'm a fucking nerd. I've got pictures of it floating somewhere on this blog, but my fic folders tend to be nested, numbered little monstrosities.

WIPs

I call them WIPs sometimes because they're extensively detailed outlines mostly, but the more accurate term is ideas/plot bunniesdemons. I don't work on more than one story at a time. Typically, I start something and write it in narrative order until it's done. There are exceptions—my current fic was started in a post-236 frenzy, and I set aside the PWP I was working on for it. But usually, I only actively write one story at a time while everything else gets developed/outlined as inspiration strikes.

Consistency

You could say I write consistently, yeah! I don't do it every day because I take breaks whenever I finish a chapter (and of course, life throws curve balls sometimes), but typically, I write around 22–25 days a month. I set aside a few hours for it. Average daily word count also varies, but these days, it's 1.5–3k. When I'm really in the zone, it can reach 5–6k.

I'm a hobbyist writer with no aspirations of writing professionally, so my approach to the whole thing has been to wing it and see where it takes me. So I haven't really done anything with the concrete goal of improving. The best (and only) advice I have is very boring and cliche though: read and write.

Read widely if you can and narrow in on the kind of style and genre you like. Note down passages or turns of phrase that struck you and figure out why. You'll absorb a lot automatically, but I've heard people recommend emulating styles on purpose as a writing exercise.

Mainly though, the best and easiest way to improve is to keep writing. Technical rules can be learned pretty easily, especially with how many resources are available online now. Field/subject-specific reference materials are also abundant. But developing your own style and improving the flow of your prose are things that need practice. And it never really stops, especially because your writing will continuously evolve in more ways than one.

bruh it's my last week of work and I'm doing SO much gardening. monday was an hour of getting samples (aka pruning). today was legit 2 hours of pruning in a greenhouse (it wasn't hot today so it wasn't too bad, but the plants were all over the walls and almost up to the ceiling and none of us are close to 6 feet). I found a leaf in my bra later today and the other person who did most of the pruning with me found some in her pants. I've gardened more in the last 2 weeks than the rest of my life before combined (and most of that gardening has been in the last 5 months because of this job)

last wednesday I accidentally closed my car door on my hand (not my finger, the whole hand). the bruise is finally starting to show up and my hand is fine (it just feels like a big bruise) but I can't keep it in one position for too long without it hurting which means I can't jerk my thang :( and I can't switch hands bc then I'd have to scroll with my hurt hand which would still keep it in one position. silliest soldiers toughest battles etc

very thankful to be almost done because commute + can sleep in again + the cost of stuff in the store room is ridiculous and makes me want to go feral (/negative) and ***** ****** ******* even though it's not my money.

also the cat my dad has been feeding has finally started to come inside. he explored the entire house on sunday! but still won't let me pet him even though I feed him 🙄 I know cats do what they want but he's soft and I wouldn't mind touoching <- keyboard mistake I don't care to fix

Now he shows up to the mall ready to buy some shit and not so subtly trail behind you.

What he wasn't ready for was your choice of clothing.

He hadn't seen any of his classmates outside of their school uniform, aside from Deku and Shitty hair, so he thinks that his reaction to you wearing shorts smaller than the school uniform was perfectly justified.

they were long enough to not be considered underwear but short enough to leave little to the imagination.

unluckily, one thing Denki knew without a doubt was the look a guy had when he was staring at a hot girl. Not to toot his own horn, but he practically trademarked it.

Fast forward to a few hours later, Bakugou has followed you around like a puppy following his owner.

he somehow found a reason to go into literally any store you went to

"Bakugou? What do you need from Macy's?"

"My old lady wanted me to get her a coat."

"Bro, you shop at Rue 21?"

"I heard they have some cool shirts."

"Ka-Kacchan?! Why are you going into Victoria's Secret?!"

"YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT ME, NERD!"

Nobody could deny that Bakugou was quick under pressure.

However, what he had in book smarts, he completely lacked in common sense.

See, Katsuki failed to think that if he liked your appearance, then others would too.

Which led him to his current situation

He looked away for one second. One second! He was tired of all the teasing and decided he wouldn't exactly drop dead if he wasn't staring at the way those shorts sculpted your ass for a few minutes. He stepped away to get some actual shopping done and look where that got him.

Some rat-faced clown was spitting game at you. And, to make matters worse, it looked like it was actually working! Every time you giggled at one of his stupid jokes, Katsuki could feel his blood boil. There was no way anything he was saying was so funny that you had to lean on him.

"Dude, you're huffing and puffing so much, you look like a chimney," Kaminari chocked out from his left, face twisted in his effort not to laugh. Why the hell was he constantly surrounded by morons?

"Watch out, guys. He's gonna explod—" Dunceface cut himself off with his own laughter, he was practically collapsing against Sero at this point.

"Maybe you should lay off him, considering that's his actual quirk." Sticky Boy suggested, pushing him off.

"Hey! It's not my fault that he's so easy to tease. You'd think one of the top students in the class would be better at hiding his crush—"

"THE HELL ARE YOU ON ABOUT, DUMBASS?! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!" He roared, cheeks red and pride struck. On the bright side, his outburst made you look over at their little group with concern. And he would take this to his grave, but for a second he was glad to have your attention on him again.

On the not so bright side, the guy took the opportunity to pounce when you were distracted. He placed his slimy hand on your bare thigh and the look of utter disgust on your face was all the incentive Katsuki needed to spring into action. He didn't want to admit it, but he was looking for a reason to intervene since that douche started talking to you.

His vision was red. He was so focused on that rat-faced prick; he didn't even noticed he had crossed the distance between you and himself.

"Come on, baby. Let's get out of here." He looked over the man's shoulder to see his dirty hand drifted further up your thigh, despite your protest. Katsuki could feel his blood boil.

His hand shot out to grab the back of the other guy's neck, grip tight.

"What the—"

"Do you know what nitroglycerin is," Katsuki continued before he could respond, "It's the same shit they put in TNT."

"Listen, man–"

"And if you aren't careful, it's the same shit that'll blow your sorry ass to Timbuktu."

"If you come anywhere near her again, I'll blow your ass up so hard, they'll be scraping you off the ceiling for weeks." He gritted out behind clenched teeth. The wide grin on Bakugou's face was intimidating, but the anger in his eyes betrayed his true emotions.

He didn't give the rat any time to speak. All he would do is try to defend his actions and Katsuki was barely holding himself back as it was. If he actually heard his voice, there's no telling what he'd do.

He shoved the sorry excuse of a man onto the linoleum floor of the mall. He watched as he ran off with his tell between his legs. Looks like he did have a brain.

He looked back at your surprised face and watched you go through seven different emotions at once before settling on one. Gratefulness?

"Look, Don't make a big deal out of this. It's a hero's duty to protect the weak. Not that you're weak or anything, I wouldn't bother talking to you if you were, I'm just saying it was the right thing to do—" The feeling of your soft lips ghosting over his cheek made him freeze mid ramble.

Small pops emitted from his hands, slightly losing control of his quirk, as he felt his face flush with heat. How many times was he gonna to blush because of you?!

"Well, you're my hero." Your bright smile was on display as you looked up at him, arms swinging loosely beside you as you rocked back and forth. You looked sort of...cute.

"Tch, whatever." He shoved one of his hands into his pocket, the other scratched at the tip of his nose.

"You're so sweet, Suki."

"THE HELL DID YOU JUST CALL ME?! WIPE THAT DAMN SMILE OFF YOUR FACE, IDIOT!"

Hi Milky! It's been a little while :) I've been a bit overwhelmed with life and mentally somewhere else for the past few weeks. Not in a bad place but just.. A lot I guess. It's finals week here and so far things are going well! I've taken 2 of my 5 finals and I got high A's on both so I'm happy :) but I also started my second job yesterday so the whole finals and 2 jobs thing has just been WHOOSH if you feel me?? But I've been staying positive and happy throughout it don't worry :) I still write to Kingdom everyday which is definitely therapeutic and it makes me smile! I found out Jahan's favorite color is purple today bc he answered me in a menpa and I'm so 🥺🥺 over it!! Sweetest boy truly 💙

Sometimes at one of my jobs I get the opportunity to listen to music during part of my shift so I usually put on my soft/slow kpop Playlist so my ear buds aren't too obnoxious with my Jikjin or I love you LOL! The Playlist has a lot of cute songs that make me happy! But whenever I hear My Treasure or Beautiful I always think of you and that makes me smile :) and yes I think of YOU! Not even Treasure themselves 😂😭 I just watched the Darari remix exclusive performance video! It was so great omggg the song is still really cute even tho it is a more rockish remix so I was still a little caught off guard with their all black edgy (but hot) outfits jdjsjs they all looked so fine 👀 Haruto in the long blonde hair I'm losing it 😭😭😭 I'm really into the ripped black jeans look so basically... It was a good video for me lol. I'm sad Darari promotions got canceled tho :( Hyunsuk (I believe it was him, I saw it a week or so ago) had to tell a fan promotions got canceled on a fan call like YG didn't even make an official statement about it :( the same thing happened to Kingdom too... Mujin had to tell us on vlive that Promise promotions got canceled. So upsetting 😔

My favorite team is in the playoffs rn and I am really hoping they pull through the first round 🙏 everyone was expecting us to do terribly (including myself ngl) but we're actually only one win away from getting to the next round! Whenever I'd play it in gym class it was so much fun 🤩 I can roller blade and ice skate decently but not well enough to do anything more than skate.
