the thing is, I'm sure UNIT is doing something functional offscreen like most of the time i assume they're just tinkering and sciencing, but every episode of them in nu!who is just [insert scenes of people making unhelpful decisions for the entire episode while carrying guns]

i think this latest one they were being the most helpful they've ever been, and it's really the doctor's Stuff that's messed things up, but every other episode they've either just been ineffective or poured gasoline on a fire

it's just not my favourite part of the show. it... irks

#im watching dw #im watching ncuti dw #i think in classic who they worked better simply because #they're not doing anything too special really on the whole #im not always a massive fan of them there either but at least they're just #a government thing that's just an extant of other recognisable government things (like the army)#now they're an off-the-books special army that essentially has free reign to do what it wants #and builds super lasers that are immediately co-opted by the latest bad guy #and designate the doctor *president of the earth*#nonsense things....#and it irks doubly because *explain why different from original torchwood beyond the nationalism*#the nationalism was Bad but crucially so were many other parts of it #like building a giant laser from alien ship parts
