wrote this on wednesday then promptly forgot about it (thabk @danielsousa for reminding me) but there's like a tiny chance eddie could be trapped in that van with someone so the bones of this fic could still technically apply
Eddie makes it out alive. Again. Somehow.
(Except somehow is 6ft2 and looks a lot like an angel when the last piece of rubble falls away and the light filters into what Eddie had thought would be his grave.)
Eddie makes it out alive, but Joel isn't so lucky.
He had been on a motorbike when the first crash had happened, in critical condition before the bridge had collapsed. It had taken them far too long to extract him from the cluster of cars, and then, when they'd finally gotten him ready to transport, the bridge had swallowed both Joel and Eddie whole.
It had been a long two hours of trying to keep Joel from bleeding out, but eventually he'd lost the fight and the man had taken in one final, wheezing breath before going still.
Now, Eddie's staring into a hospital mirror covered in dust and another man's blood. The bathroom door creaks open, and Buck's reflection appears in the mirror.
"Chim's okay," he offers softly. Eddie squeezes his eyes shut in relief, its the most Buck is going to get out of him. "Maddie's just waiting for him to be assigned a room and then she'll go up and sit with him until he's awake." Buck joins him by the sinks, turning the faucet on and grabbing a wad of paper towels. "Hen and Bobby have been checked out too. Nothing but a few scrapes and bruises. Karen and Athena are looking after them."
Buck picks up Eddie's bloodied hands with a gentleness that makes Eddie want to curl up in a ball, but he lets Buck wipe away the grime on his skin and doesn't think about Maddie with Chimney, Athena with Bobby, Karen with Hen. He catches the bandage peeking out from under Buck's shirt sleeve and his stomach clenches.
"What about you?" he croaks, voice hoarse from begging Joel to stay with him. Buck looks up at him with earnest eyes before following his gaze down to the gauze.
"Oh, that's nothing." Buck shakes his head. "Chim needed a blood transfusion, and..."
"You're a universal donor," Eddie mumbles to himself. Buck nods.
"How are you?" he whispers, guiding Eddie's hands under the lukewarm stream of water. Eddie fixes his gaze on the pink liquid swirling around the drain.
"Unscathed," he spits.
"Eddie," Buck murmurs. "You did everything you could for him."
"It wasn't enough."
Eddie jerks his hands out of Buck's grasp, pumps three drops of soap onto his palm, turns the heat up to full and scrubs and scrubs and scrubs. Buck shuts the tap off just as the water begins to burn, and Eddie slumps into a white-knuckled grip on the edge of the counter, squeezing his eyes shut and hanging his head.
"He had a kid at home, Buck." Eddie bites his lip, revels in the gritty taste of dust. "A little girl. Jackie. God, you should have seen his face when he spoke about her." Even in the darkness, even in tremendous amounts of agony, Joel had lit up like the fucking sun when he spoke of his daughter. For a single moment, Eddie had been back in the well, fighting to get home to Christopher.
"And I know that you did everything in your power to try and get him back to her," Buck says with conviction.
"Well, it wasn't enough, was it?" Eddie snaps. "He died in my care, Buck. I let a little girl lose her father."
"Eddie, that was not your fault," Buck warns him, tone stern. "The universe was working against you in every possible way."
"The universe!" Eddie laughs coldly, meets Buck's eyes in the mirror. "The universe has been working against me my whole goddamn life, Buck. But I'm still here." His voice cracks, but he doesn't take his eyes off Buck. Can't. "Why am I still here?" Buck opens his mouth, but Eddie doesn't want an answer as much as he wants to spit in the universe's filthy fucking face. "Shannon died, my convoy died, Joel died. You died." Eddie takes in a ragged breath, cursing the oxygen in his lungs. "Why am I still alive?"
"Because there is a little boy, who's not all that little anymore, waiting for you at home. A little boy who loves you more than anything in the world. A little boy who needs his dad."
"Wasn't enough for Joel," Eddie croaks.
"No, but." Buck sighs. "You made Chris a promise. To always fight to come home to him. You were just keeping that promise."
"He had a wife," Eddie whispers. "A wife and a kid to get home to. And he fought for them. But..." He squeezes his eyes shut again. "Why am I still here, Buck?"
"For Christopher."
"Christopher would be fine." Eddie shakes his head in dismissal. "He'd have you."
For a moment, the only sound in the bathroom is Eddie's ragged breathing and the drip-drop of a leaky faucet. Then, a low and furious noise, like the grumble of thunder -
"Eddie, you are not expendable."
Eddie huffs a laugh and shakes his head.
"Clearly not," he snaps, spinning around to face Buck head on. "Clearly I'm not expendable when everybody around me, everybody but me keeps dying."
Eddie storms out of the bathroom before Buck can say anything else. The itch under his skin turning into a haunting chorus telling him to run. He follows the winding hallways of the hospital in a blind need for air, suddenly claustrophobic trapped in between four walls, just waiting for it all to come crumbling down around him. He doesn't stop until he's outside, collapsing onto the bench just left of the exit as the tears start to fall. He hunches in on himself and cries into his hands for what feels like hours.
Eventually, somebody eases down onto the bench beside him. He doesn't have to look to know its Buck, can feel it in the warmth where their shoulders touch. Eddie braces himself for whatever Buck is going to say, but nothing comes. Buck just. Sits beside him. Sits with him in his grief. And Eddie is so thankful for it that he almost doesn't remember Bobby's words to him in the hardware store.
a motorcycle accident... it was a bad one... I wasn't at my best at the time... I needed to take a minute and she sat with me.
"Eddie, you said it yourself." Buck smiles at him. "Experiences like this they change us, so you're gonna have to make a choice. What's this gonna change in you?"
Oh, Eddie thinks, that's what its going to change.

let’s ruin the friendship
— part one
Tumblr media
pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley x fem!reader
summary: 118 throws a party for their station. You started working there 3 months ago and already feel like a part of the family. Buck caught feelings for you, but still need to confess them. How will the weekend end?
word count: 1,5k
author’s note: i’m actually obsessed with this fic🧘🏻‍♀️ hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it
p.s. i see all your requests, i’m in the process of writing them🫧
Tumblr media
Malibu. You're sitting by the ocean and looking at the sky. You take a deep breath and feel your lungs fill with sea air, this real sea smell. The wind blows your hair, the warm sand tickles your toes and your head is free of thoughts.
118 decided to make a party for your station and you rented a house in Malibu on the Pacific Ocean. Three days of rest and fun with friends, what could be better?
And you needed it. You've been working at 118 for three months now and it's really a dream job. But because you're still new to this: it's hard, demanding and emotional at times. So getting out of this for a couple of days sounded very tempting.
The whole 118 team received you very warmly. Bobby is the best captain you could ask for. He literally became your second dad, mentor and wise friend. He taught you to take any difficulty as a valuable lesson that will lead you to a better version of yourself. Hen, Chimney and Eddie have become a resource of light. You never thought that colleagues at work could become family, but they showed you this. They are always happy to see you in their homes, put a smile on your face every shift and support you when something gets too much.
And Buck. You chuckled and admitted that you fell for him. You're not usually the type to get attached to people quickly. Honestly, you don't even know if you ever really loved. And it was Evan who made you feel things you'd never felt before. Butterflies in your stomach, counting the minutes before your shift starts to see him, “accidental” touches, stolen glances and a blush on your cheeks when he compliments you.
You looked up at the sky once more, where the stars were shining. Your dress was covered in sand, but you didn't care, because it was those moments that gave you a sense of carelessness. You were the very first to arrive at the house that you all rented and realized that this was a great opportunity to be alone with yourself. It was just you and the ocean.
“You're early as always.” — of course it was Buck. You chuckled to yourself and weren't even surprised that it was him. It's like he always appears when you think about him.
“Yeah, I didn't really calculate the time right and got here without traffic jams.”
You felt Buck sit down next to you on the sand and you both looked out into the boundless ocean.
“Aren't you afraid to get your pants dirty?”
“I wouldn't have become a firefighter if I was afraid of that. Plus, I'm willing to get my pants dirty if it means sitting in peace and quiet next to you.”
The next day went better than you imagined. You were all swimming, barbecuing, making cocktails, chatting and laughing a lot. Adults, but behaved like children, and this is exactly what everyone needed — to forget about adult responsibilities for a while and give themselves up to impulsive desires.
The day was nearing sunset and you split up. Men were playing volleyball, women were sitting by the pool with glasses of wine.
“If such a weekend becomes a tradition at your station, then I will have to change my place of work.” — Karen said and sipped her wine.
“Oh honey, we don’t have to. We are the wives of firefighters, we will always have the privilege for such parties.” — Athena said, doing a little dance.
Everyone laughed and agreed with this statement. You adored the women around you: strong, beautiful, and knowing how to have fun, even working such hard jobs.
“So (Y/N), any plans on making this official?” — Hen raised her eyebrows, pointing at you.
“What are you talking about?”
“Oh come on girl, we all see how you and Buck literally devour each other with eyes.”
“We’re just friends.”
You close your eyes, pull on your sunglasses and lie down on a beach chair. You do everything so that no one sees how your cheeks started to turn red.
“Yeah, I'm sure that friends dance in each other's arms, go to places for couples in the evenings and make local jokes that no one else understands.” — Maddie came back to the pool and put another cocktail in front of you. “It’s from Buck by the way, he said he made it just how you like it.” — she highlighted the last words and looked at you meaningfully before laughing.
“Okay you all, I don't recall using the services of a matchmaker, so I’m going to swim.” — you said, standing from your beach chair. “Anyone wants to go with me?”
“Hell yeah.”
You hear Buck's voice behind you and turn to him.
“Where did you come from?”
“I was on my way to grab some water, but swimming sounds more tempting.”
You took a towel and you went for a swim together.
“Okay, guys, I'm taking bets on whether they kiss now or not.” — Hen had a feeling that after this swim there will be one more couple on their station.
You and Evan came to the ocean and stopped at the shore. You have a feeling of deja vu, because exactly 24 hours ago you were sitting in the same place. The sun was almost below the horizon, it was getting darker and you liked it, there was always something magical about swimming at night.
“I would very much appreciate it if you stayed by my side, because rescuing you wasn’t on my bucket list today.”
“Then you’ll have to catch me, Buckley.”
You didn't wait a second and ran into the water. The warm water caressed your body, the sounds of the waves stupefied your head, the lowering sun left tempting reflections on your body.
You began to swim slowly and enjoy how the water relaxes your muscles and the taste of salt envelops your lips. In a second you were in strong hands.
“Got ya.” — Buck's warm breath was on your ear and reflexively you wrapped your legs around his torso.
“I don't think you gave me a chance to break away from you.”
“Maybe I didn’t want to.”
“How is it fair then?”
“It’s not, but it’s also unfair how you try to slide away from me every time.”
You looked into Evan's eyes and froze. You never tried to run away from him, you just didn't know if your feelings were mutual. And confessing your feelings is like going through fire for you, even though you do it almost every day. And it's still dangerous and scary.
His lips were two centimeters from yours and you fought with every part of your body not to succumb to temptation.
“I was just waiting for you to stop me from running away.”
“Let’s ruin the friendship.”
And he kissed you. A thousand fireworks exploded in your chest and your heart started pounding faster. You ran your hands through his hair, and he pulled you closer to him. You have to say that there was nothing innocent about that kiss. But it wasn't lust either. It was sensual, intimate, mixed with a long desire to be with each other.
You parted your lips and let his tongue enter inside, dancing with your tongue in unison. Buck put his hands on your hips and squeezed them, a soft moan escaped from your lips. Desire and need have awakened in the bottom of your stomach.
“I don’t think we need to give such a performance to our friends.” — even though you didn’t care right now, you knew it would be quite embarrassing after.
“You’re probably right, but I've been waiting for this since the first time I saw you.”
“You’re definitely a keeper.”
“I can’t keep denying every minute I think of you. I need to call you mine.”
“Claim me yours.”
And just like that, he kissed you again. This time gently and with all the love he had. You could both feel the invisible strings that intertwine your hearts and lives.
The feelings that flared up no longer frightened, but forced him to look into the future without doubt. Evan has been burned in a relationship so many times, but now he sees clearly — life without you is a thousand times more destructive.
You've been imagining events for so long that could lead to the beginning of your relationship, and none of them were the way you're experiencing now. You're with Buck in the ocean, your bodies are pressed against each other and you can't break the kiss because you can't get enough.
“Fuck, you’re all I ever dreamed of.” — Buck broke the kiss and said it into your lips.
You were walking back to the house and holding hands. What's the point of hiding that you're a couple now if everyone's been waiting for this?
You and Buck walked past the pool giggling and went into the house to change your clothes and most likely it won't end there.
“Okay, ladies, each of you now owns me 10 dollars.” — sipping from her glass, Hen knew she would win this bet.
Let me know if you want part 2 🫧

𝐀 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐦? 𝐎𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞?
Pairing: firefighter!eddie x cop!reader (fem)
Warning: light language (once mentioned ‘shit’), injury, threats, attempt arson attack, blood, reader takes a hit (stitches but NO mentions of needles) and I believe that’s all!
Summary: 118 and Y/n had been called to an accident, nothing strange. The manager of the diner said that she could smell a gas leak but they recently had that checked. Y/n asked a few questions to the manager, revealing more information. That’s when it all clicked Y/n.
--༒⚠︎︎༒--
Just another normal evening in Los Angles, while patrolling. Driving in your ford suv cop car, your radio came on. And with a familiar voice (May) it spoke “dispatch 813 P28, we’ve got a call from a person who has said there was a supposed car crash at the ‘come dine’ diner on Lakewood avenue” you nod subconsciously nod “copy that dispatch, on my way.”
You put your sirens on and head start to the scene.
You pull up already seeing Athena’s car there. You park up and hop out, putting your sunglasses on, you walked over. Seeing the 118 fire engines already there, Hen and Chimney helping some witnesses that were at the diner.
“Hey, Athen, what’s it looking like?” You approach Athen. She had her hands in her pockets as she replied “looks like the driver made a run for it after crashing, Bobby said once they had showed up, driver was no where to be seen.” You hummed “that’s odd, you think they’re injured? Looks like a bad crash..”
You look at the scene in front of you. The large window of the diner has half a car doing through it. Smashed glass everywhere, tables and chairs knocked over or broken. “Well, nobody besides the get away driver seems to be in bad shape…” you look around after Athen spoke. Seeing only a couple and a mom with her child. Only minor injuries, cuts and bruises at most. You asked “you think it’s a dui?” Athen answers “I mean, possibly? It’s half six on a Friday evening..”
Athena’s name had been called, so you were left to yourself for a moment. Sticking your hands into the arm parts of your utility vest. Glancing around the scene, you saw the 118 team by the engine. You smiled and walked on over. Seeing Buck and Ravi standing next to each other while Eddie sat on the small ledge on the engine. Hen and Chimney were at their fire ambulance patching people up as Bobby was talking with other fire captains and police officers.
You approached the three guys “hey you three.” The guys look over, Buck and Ravi almost in sync “hey.” Eddie chuckled at the two then looked at you “hey, mi amor” you smiled “hey, heard of anything from here?” Buck replied “nope, just a crash… without the driver” you nodded. Eddie asked “talked to any witnesses yet?” You shook your head “just got here five minutes ago. Athena told me she already had officers asking round” he nodded.
After some chatting a person in a retro outfit approached us. “Hi um, I think there is something up with the diner..” you raised an eyebrow “what’s wrong with it? Besides the car?” The person spoke “I’m the manager of the diner, i went back in the back to my office… something is smelling real bad in there… I think it’s a gas leak, but we just had that checked not too long ago..” the guys all geared up once again and went inside. You escort the manager to the side and out of the way. You ask some questions and chat with the manager. She told you how she saw a guy running out of the car, but he looked to be unscrewing something at the back of the car.
The guys came back out, Eddie walked over and spoke “hey, it’s a gas leak, but it seems to be unscrewed and damaged like someone went at it…” you look to the manager and she replied “nobody has been down there since the handyman had been down there..” Eddie added on “yeah, somebody left a rusty old wrench down there… couldn’t have been a handyman’s wrench..”
…A rusty wrench? Nobody had been down there? Saw a guy unscrew something at the back of his car? Gasoline? No… a gas leak and gasoline? That wouldn’t cause a fire… just yet.. but it could’ve… Your thoughts clicked on…you thanked the manager for her time.
Eddie looked at you in confusion.
You quickly made your way over to the car. You mumbled “thought so…” Athena looked over “everything good, Y/n/n?” You called out “this wasn’t a simple crash… I think this was intentional” Athena walks over “what?”
“I was with the one eighteen.. then the manager complained of a smell, a gas leak, Eddie checked it out and told me it looked as if someone had purposely damaged it. Before that I was questioning the manager; she said a guy had ran out of the car. But before he fled the scene, he was unscrewing something.” You gesture to the gas cap on the car. Athena clicked on too “maybe he had some sort of match or lighter on him?” You added “and maybe he fled because he saw first responders.” You jog over to the manager, “hey sorry to bother you again, but can you tell me when you saw the guy run out the car?” The lady responded “around six twenty..” you gave her a small smile and thanked her. You then jog over to Eddie.
“Hey babe, around what time did you and the team arrive here?”
“Uhh I’d say around six twenty? Why?”
It all clicked together, “this is an attempted arson”
“Wait what? Y/n! What?!”
You jog back over to Athena, “yep, we guessed correctly, one eighteen arrived right as the suspect would’ve caused the arson.” Athena nodded and headed over to Rick and explained our theory.
You walked over to Eddie, you explained everything you and Athena had just discussed. You stood next to Eddie and now Buck. Glancing around at the crowd that had formed over the time you had been there.
You notice a guy, looked about early twenties maybe late teens. A black hoodie and dark jeans. You saw a large stain on the bottom of his jeans. He looked fidgety or on edge, more like… suspicious.
You tilted your body towards Eddie “hey, don’t make it suspicious, but the guy in the crowd, black hoodie, dark jeans, looks young 18 maybe 20 at most.. looks fidgety, he’s got a big stain at the bottom of his jeans..” Eddie and Buck glanced over. Buck replied “yeah, he seems off, huh?” You nodded in agreement. Eddie suggested “you gonna go over and talk to him?” You nodded “worth a shot..”
You casually made your way over; as you got close enough the guys saw you. He panicked and darted off in a direction. You called out “we’ve got a runner!” Athena looked over. She saw the guy running, also saw you hot on his tail. Athena started to run too, following you both.
You pressed your thumb on the radio “dispatch, this is Sargent Y/l/n, got a possible suspect of the diner accident on Lakewood avenue, he’s on the run. Male, late teens early twenties, black hoodie, dark jeans with large stain on the bottom, pale skin brown hair.” You call out “hey! You won’t be able to run forever!”
You kept chasing the possible suspect. He caught himself on his foot and miss stepped; giving you an advantage. You practically throw yourself on him, taking him to the ground. He tried to fight you off of him, he threatened “get off me, I’ll- I’ll hurt you!” You reached for your cuffs “not today, you’re in custody of attempted arson” the guy lashed out. He reached in his hoodie pocket. Grabbing a small pocket knife, waving it around as he tried to get you. You tried your best to dodge it.
Feeling a slight sting in your face, you felt blood trickle down your cheek. You look down at the guy. He threatened again “get off! I will do it again!” “You will not-”You tried to grab his wrist, sadly he was quicker.
You felt a sharp burning sensation in your arm. You see you have been stabbed, lucky for you, it was only the tip of the blade. You look down at the now ripped arm of your shirt, along with a dark patch forming against the navy of your uniform “shit…”
You heard a voice “Y/n/n!” Athena ran over just in time with two other guy police officers. You got up as the two guys took over and detained the guy. Athen looked you over “he cut you…” you nodded. “He got me in the arm too.” Athena saw the blood that started to trickle down your arm.
Athena pressed her thumb on her radio “this is Sargent Grant, we’ve got an injured officer, Sargent Y/l/n, she’s been stabbed in her arm and a cut to her cheek.” We could hear Bobby through the radio “bring her back to the scene, Hen and Chimney will take a look at her.” “Roger that, Cap.” You both head back to the scene.
Eddie spotted you quicker than anyone. He ran over, he held your uninjured arm “baby, you alright?!” You nodded “yeah, it’s not too bad, it was just the tip of a pocket knife.” Eddie still looked concerned, you couldn’t blame him.
You were now sat on the ledge of the ambulance, Hen is stitching your arm up while Eddie watched over her shoulder. Chimney asked “so you got the guy now though, right?” You nodded “after I tackled him to the ground, and his exchange-” gestures to the stab wound and cut to your cheek “-Athena and two other cops came over, they took over as Athena did a once over on me.” Chimney and Hen nodded.
Once Hen was done, you thanked her and stood up. Now only having one long sleeve on your navy uniform shirt. You looked to Eddie “see, I’m all good now, Ed, I promise..” you open your arms for him. Which he gladly walked into.
You wrapped your arms around his neck as he leaned down and wrapped his arms around your waist. He whispered “you’re a badass for taking that guy down, but still gotta be careful, love.” You chuckled softly and replied “it’s all apart of the job, besides I didn’t know he had a pocket knife on him.” He hummed in agreement.
“Well expect some tlc from Christopher and I tonight, yeah?” You smiled at his comment “yeah…” he smiled.
He leaned closer to your face, “alright, I’ve gotta head back to the station, see you in four hours?” You smile and nod “see you in four hours, my love.”
He glances to your lips momentarily, then he leans in and kisses your lips softly for a moment. Savouring your kiss, he then pulls away reluctantly. “I love you, see you later…” you smile and respond “I love you too, babe.” He waved then jogged over to the fire engine. You wave to the rest of the team before heading back over to your cop car and getting in it. Continuing the rest of your shift with one long sleeve and a new set of stitches. You pulled off and continued the rest of your four and a half hours of your shift.
All you could think about was your tlc that Eddie mentioned. Most likely a movie night in, eating popcorn or candy with your favourite boys, Eddie and Christopher…

...........................................
“twins?”
lying on the hospital stretcher, with an icy gel on your low stomach, you could hear Buck’s startled murmur as he repeated the doctor’s words. You were completely shocked. As if finding out the pregnancy wasn’t scare enough, you’re having twins?
Your hands were shaking and sweating, your mind was a completely mess, fear was growing in your chest. What if you weren’t good enough, what if-
“baby?” Buck’s voice woke you from your thoughts and you could see the worried look on his beautiful face. “are you feeling okay?”
“y-yes, i-i just-“
“i’ll give you a moment”
The doctor said as she wiped the gel from your belly and soon left the room leaving you two alone.
“i-i don’t know if- how can we-“
“hey hey, calm down” He held your face in his hands and his eyes met yours. “I am scared to death about this too. But we’re going to make it, we’ve faced so much so far, all the obstacles that have come our way and we’ve faced them. We are going to make it, we are going to have these babies and they are going to learn about the greatest love in the world, because they are going to be raised by us”
“and by the 118” You added and let out a muffled laugh. He let out a wide smile and you could see how his eyes formed little wrinkles as his smile grew. “i love you so much”
“i love you guys too” He put his hands on your stomach and gave you a little peck in your lips.
It was finally Thanksgiving morning. You and Buck agreed to wait until today to tell everyone about the pregnancy. You were helping Athena and Maddie in the kitchen, while the rest of the team was setting Bobby and Athena’s house for lunch. You didn’t wake up well this morning, the nausea that you thought was over showed its face again. You excused yourself and quickly went to the bathroom, throwing up what you didn’t even know you had in your stomach. After you cleaned yourself up you came out of the bathroom and bumped into a frowning Maddie.
“Are you feeling all right? This is the second time you’ve run to the bathroom to-“
You noticed her eyes widen and the glow of understanding appeared on her face. And your eyes widened too.
“oh my god. You are preg-“
Before she could finish her sentence you dragged her into the bathroom with you and quickly closed the door. Your heart was racing and now Maddie’s eyes were filled with tears.
“Why didn’t you tell me? How far along are you? oh my god, my brother is going to be a father. Jee is going to have a cousin” She kept murmuring and you smiled at your sister-in-law’s excitement. When your eyes met she gave a huge smile. “and how are you doing? i am so happy for you”
She hugged you tight, and you didn’t even realize you had tears in your eyes until they rolled off your face.
“that’s why Buck hasn’t taken his eyes off you all morning” You nodded, still teary-eyed, and tried to pull yourself together.
“Maddie you can’t tell anyone. We will announce it this afternoon, it’s still a surprise”
“yeah of course. I’ll try to keep my mouth shut” You gave her a serious look and she laughed. “i promise I’ll keep my mouth shut” As soon as you left the bathroom Buck was standing in the doorway with a worried look on his face.
“Is everything okay?”
“Everything is great” Maddie exclaimed with her hands up and burst out laughing. As soon as she left Buck looked at you confused and you sighed.
“she knows” you both spoke together and smiled.
The table was set, everyone was seated, and Bobby began a speech about the things he was grateful for this year. He was about to start the meal, when Buck asked to speak.
“ahn, i-i’d like to- i-i’m-“
He started to stutter and you held his hand under the table. He took a deep breath looking into your eyes and your smile gave him the strength to continue.
“i am extremely grateful for this family, the 118 family, I think you all remember that I didn’t go through my best phase in the beginning, but with your help I can say that I have become a better firefighter and a better person. And I am grateful for the woman who chose me. A few years have passed since we decided to give this relationship a chance and I could never have imagined that this would become the best thing in my life, the best part of me. But today in particular I am grateful because she gave me the opportunity to be a father and I am grateful for the babies in her belly”
“what?” Eddie was the first to ask while everyone stared at you in astonishment.
“oh my god, babies? As two babies?" Maddie exclamed with tears in her eyes.
And when you confirmed it the celebration began. Everyone came up to you to congratulate and tell you how much these babies would be loved. How great you would be as parents, and of course lots of jokes about how they didn’t believe Buck could do anything good like winning you over and now getting you pregnant, you’re too much for Buck. You couldn’t have dreamed of a different scenario, a better one. The look on Buck’s face, his sincere smile on his lips as he told about the day you found out together that you were pregnant, the love that radiated from everyone around you, the caresses on your belly and the loving comments, the warm hugs.
That was the true meaning of family for you. The joy, the talking, the pregnancy planning, the hugs and smiles, went on throughout the day. And it went on during the months that followed, the homemade meals made especially for you, the gifts sent for the babies, the help to set up the babies’ room.
They were your true family.
When the day finally arrived ahead of schedule, you were home alone. Despite the fear and desperation you did what you had spent months preparing for. While on the way you called your boyfriend, you didn’t expect that you would arrive at the hospital practically together with a truck full of anxious firemen who came straight out of a call to the hospital. The nurses couldn’t stop talking about how loved you were and how anxious the firemen and their partners in the waiting room were.
And the moment has finally arrived. The Buckley babies have arrived into this world, and you and Buck couldn’t be happier.
Your family was now complete.

in my self-indulgent season 8 opening, we see a montage of the 118 in the morning before work: madney, henren, and the kids meet up and we see a moment of joy for all of them, with mara getting the biggest hugs from hen, karen, and denny, while maddie gets updates about life under gerrard (this also to introduce the audience to what's been going on during the break); this is constrasted with eddie, who gets ready for work in silence and makes a sad meal for one (maybe he doesn't care to cook, heating up a pre-made breakfast); bobby and athena are staying in a hotel suite together; it's mentioned that this is sooo much better than when they were living with may (there's an intimation she caught them again and told them to find somewhere else because she can't live like this), and they're goodnaturedly bickering about their house hunt and why she prefers house x and he prefers house y;
and buck is at a coffee shop counter, and we notice he's picking up two coffees; he brings them outside and sits down with tommy, who takes a sip of his and tells buck that it's perfect.

Mugging
Tumblr media
Eddie x reader
WC: 1500 ish
Warnings: mugging
For @whumpcember day 10 "let me help you" and for @hurtcember day 10 touch aversion... nothing like last minute. Ha.
--
You were walking to your car after leaving dinner with a few of your friends when, suddenly, you were yanked into an alley and shoved hard into a brick wall.
Stars danced across your vision from the impact. “What the–?” you asked, confused.
“Give me your phone!” The man in front of you shouted.
You froze, finally realizing what was happening. You started to shake your head and then a fist connected with your face and you cried out in pain.
“Phone! Now!” He shouted again.
Finally, you got your hands to cooperate and you pulled the phone from your back pocket and reached it towards the man. He yanked it from your hand hard enough to throw you off balance.
“Please, just let me go,” you begged.
Another punch landed to your face and then a kick to the side of your knee that knocked you to the ground. You tried to curl into a ball so you could protect your head. Next, your purse was yanked from your shoulder before he kicked you hard a couple times in the side.
You whimpered as you tried to curl further into yourself. You barely even registered the sound of retreating footsteps. Not daring to risk moving, you lay there curled in a ball for several minutes.
Everything hurt. You knew moving was only going to make it worse but you knew you needed help.
Slowly, you managed to push yourself up to a sitting position. Then eventually you managed to get all the way upright. You were dizzy and winded and needed to lean against the wall for support.
With one final, painful, deep breath, you pushed off the wall and started walking. You limped your way to the end of the block and looked around. When you didn't see any people you pushed forward another block, then one more.
When you made it to the next intersection you looked to your left and spotted a fire truck in front of the fire station you had forgotten was there. You sighed in relief and turned in that direction.
About half way down the block, someone came out of a building right in front of you. You froze before you started taking small steps backwards. “Hey, you okay?” the stranger asked.
You only managed a tiny nod as he approached and reached out a hand like he was going to touch you. You backed away faster as you managed to find your voice. “No!”
“Alright, I'm sorry,” he raised the offending hand in surrender and backed away. He got into a car on the curb but didn't start the engine.
You tried to walk as quickly as you could manage away from the stranger and towards the fire station.
When you were about twenty feet away from the truck, a dark haired man rounded the front end and spotted you. Despite knowing that was your intended destination, you couldn't help but to shy away from the man just as you had a moment ago.
He took small steps towards you. “Hi, sweetheart, can you tell me what happened?”
You glanced between the fire truck and the design on his shirt. Finally you decided to answer. “I, um, I was j-just walking,” you gestured back the way you'd come. “Then the alley. A-and he took my phone. Er, I think I should call someone…”
He slowly took a few more steps, closing the distance between you. “My name is Eddie. Can you tell me yours?”
Before you could answer, your knees buckled and you crumpled. Eddie moved quickly, catching you before you could hit the ground.
Even with nowhere to go, you tried to shy away from him.
“Its okay. You're safe,” he assured you. “Let me help you, okay?”
Just then another firefighter rounded the front of the truck. “Eddie, what's taking you so– Oh.”
You whimpered at the closeness of another person. Eddie just squeezed your hand reassuringly.
“Buck, go grab Hen and Chim and have Bobby call Athena, please,” Eddie requested before turning back to you. “What's your name?”
As you gave him your name, he shifted you to the ground so his hands were free. You winced at the sudden shift in position.
“What hurts?” he asked, taking your hand.
A tear slipped from your eye and you hiccuped a painful breath. “Everything.”
“Okay, just try to take some deep breaths for me.” He took a couple slow breaths for you to follow. “That's good. Now, there are about to be a lot more people out here. I know you're scared, but all of them just want to help you. Okay?”
You nodded trying to stay calm. “Okay.”
“And I'll be right here with you, too.”
Next thing you knew, there was three more people beside you and more lingering near the fire truck. You started to panic and everything started to spin.
Eddie squeezed your hand almost painfully. “Breathe, sweetheart. Slow breaths.”
You locked eyes with him and tried as hard as you could to block out everyone else around you as they poked, prodded, and shifted you.
A woman leaned into your line of sight. “I'm going to give you something for the pain. Are you allergic to any meds?”
You start to shake your head but then stop yourself. “Uh, just that dye stuff they use for those scans things.”
“Okay.” She twists a syringe into the IV line you hadn't felt them put in and pressed the plunger. Within seconds your pain eased.
They quickly had you loaded onto a stretcher and pushed you into the ambulance that had been moved closer.
Eddie kept his promise and he stayed by your side all the way into the emergency room. Then there was another round of new people and you panicked again. Eddie was trying to calm you down as you suddenly felt like you were floating before everything went dark.
The last thing you heard was Eddie whispering, “You'll feel better soon.”
The next morning you were picking at a crappy omelette and drinking mediocre, watery orange juice when there was a knock at the door.
The nurses had been coming in after knocking without any acknowledgment on your part so you assumed that would be the case but the door didn't open.
Brows furrowed in confusion, you shouted, “Uh, come in.”
The door cracked open and Eddie poked his head in. “Good morning.”
You smiled. “Oh, Eddie. Hey. I thought you were a nurse.”
He pushed the door open further and joined you in the room. He set a stuffed purple dinosaur on the bed by your hip. “I almost grabbed a bear, but I decided to go with the less traditional option.”
You picked it up and ran your hands over the velvety soft fur. “I love him. Thanks.”
“How're you feeling?” he asked, glancing at the screen beside the bed displaying your vitals.
“Sore, mostly,” you started. “But they've got me on the good pain meds. Otherwise, the broken ribs alone would be unbearable, I imagine. Not to mention the sprained knee, the concussion, the face, and the stitches from the surgery they did to fix my kidney.”
“Ouch. I'm glad the meds help. Do you mind if I hang out for a while?”
“Please do.” You gestured to the chair in the corner. “You can move that closer… if you want.”
He pulled the chair over next to the bed and sat. He took you hand in both of his and squeezed gently like he had the day before. And just like the day before a sense of safety washed over you.
“Thank you for coming to visit me.” You smiled shyly.
“I couldn't leave things the way we did,” he explained. “I needed to know you were okay.”
“I'm getting there.”
“I was also wondering if maybe once you're feeling better you might want to get coffee or dinner or something…”
You nodded overly eagerly, immediately regretting the action when pain shot through your head and you winced.
“Are you okay? Do you need me to get a nurse?”
“No, I'm fine. I just moved my head too quickly.” You rubbed your temples to ease the ache. “But, yes. I'd love to do dinner or coffee. I'd offer to give you my number but I have to get a new phone first.”
“Good. I can't wait,” he pressed a light kiss to your knuckles. “Maybe you should try to get some rest.”
“You have lots of good ideas.” You smiled and shifted to find a comfortable position. You closed your eyes for a second before snapping them open again. “You'll still be here when I wake up, right?”
“I promise.”

"James Buckley?"
Evan glanced down at his wrist that was perched on James's shoulder. Nearly twenty minutes. That wasn't bad for being almost six in the evening. A&E was usually busier at night than it was early morning and it had been a while since Evan had come through A&E. When they came in from a call at work, they used the ambulance entrance which was situated behind the waiting area so patients could go straight to care as ambulance calls were usually more urgent.
The last time Evan had had to sit and wait here like this was probably almost two years ago when Josie fell at nursery and they thought she had broken her arm.
Evan patted his hand on James's shoulder and gently nudged his son to urge him to get up. From the moment they sat down in the waiting room, James had tucked himself under Evan's arm with his head on his dad's shoulder. It almost felt like he was a little boy again rather than a teenager.
When they got up, James kept himself wedged under Evan's arm and it almost made Evan smile if the circumstances had been different. They followed a middle-aged doctor into the assessment ward and through to a small room on the right.
"Okay, what's the problem?" James watched the doctor sit up straight in his chair but he looked no match for his dad who towered over him even when he was slightly slouched in the uncomfortable wooden chair.
"I had an accident on my bike…" He looked between the doctor and his dad, waiting until his dad nodded at him before he stood up to pull up his shirt and reveal the damage. He could feel his dad's hand smoothing up and down his back but he bristled when he noticed his dad's stance.
Evan was now slouched forward in his chair, his left elbow resting on his thigh and his hand propping his chin up. He took one look at James's chest and had to look straight ahead of him to stop the fire burning within him from overtaking his senses. Maddie had told him just before they left that she got the man's name and number plate and was going to make a report but Evan was going straight to Athena and Bobby in the morning.
Whoever did this to his son wasn't getting away with it.
"It looks like they're broken. Follow the signs for the X-ray ward, I'll send a note so they know to expect you. Depending on how many ribs are broken depends on whether we need an ultrasound of the lung or not."
"Thanks," Evan looped his arm back around James's shoulders as they left the cubicle and made a left turn, aiming for a long corridor. "It's a good job I know this place like the back of my hand." He would hate to be a stranger coming here, the doctor didn't even ask if he knew which way to go or how to get back.
He tilted his head to look down at James when he curled his arms around Evan's waist and tucked his face into the middle of his chest near his sternum.
"I don't want an X-ray," He whispered quietly, his words slightly muffled by Evan's shirt.
"It won't hurt buddy, it's just like taking a photograph." Evan leaned down to kiss the top of his head as they made a right turn and followed the sign down to the X-ray ward which thankfully wasn't far from the emergency waiting room.
He felt bad for his son. In all his thirteen years, James had never broken a bone, not even a finger or a toe. And now he had broken two or possibly three all at once.
"Have you had one before?"
"Bud, by the time I was your age I'd broken my ankle, my arm and fractured three fingers. I think I've broken almost every bone I can by now. It won't hurt and I won't leave you alone in there. I'll stay right here."
Evan learned from an early age that being sick or being ill gained him the attention his parents lacked to give him. Although it never got him the love he desired, they at least paid attention to him when he fell from his bike or fell from a tree or got knocked down in sports. He got noticed by getting hurt and it was almost an addiction, making sure he was badly enough damaged to gain the comfort and respect he should have gotten for free.
If it wasn't for Maddie looking out for him and (Y/n) coming along and changing his world, Evan probably wouldn't be standing here right now. One accident too many and he could have killed himself unintentionally.
It was a surprise to see the waiting area was empty when they arrived, but it was also a relief.
Evan sat down in one of the chairs near the window and opened his arms when James sat next to him. He wrapped both arms around his son and pressed his lips to the top of his head, gently easing him back into his chest. At least they shouldn't have to wait long if nobody else was here for an X-ray.
He could see the discomfort written all across his son's face, he didn't know how to sit or what to do with himself. Leaning into Evan's chest seemed to make him feel better, but he kept wriggling and holding his breath and if Evan accidentally touched his side, he had to bite back a cry.
"Dad…"
"Come on," Evan cradled the side of James's neck when his name was called out again but his son just stared up at him with those big blue eyes that made him melt.
Evan reeled off his name and date of birth when James stayed quiet as a mouse, tucked into his side. He refused to look at any of them and kept his face hidden in his dad's shirt. He didn't want to be here, he wanted to be at home with both his parents instead of getting poked and prodded. He wanted painkillers and a drink and his bed, although James wasn't sure how he was going to sleep tonight if he couldn't even touch his right side without screaming out.
"If you could take off your shirt and stand over here for me?" The nurse looked at James with a smile but he wouldn't look at her.
"No."
"James, baby please? We need to know you're okay,"
James could feel tears welling up in his eyes again when his dad took a step back so he could take off his shirt. It hurt. He couldn't lift his right arm above his head and he started to shake when he felt his dad help ease his shirt off and place it on a vacant chair in the corner of the room. The shaking in his system was probably due to another burst of adrenaline but it made James want to be sick. He just wanted to go home. This wasn't fair. Why did someone have to knock him off his bike and not someone else?
"Come stand over here, honey."
With his hands clasped on his hips, Evan followed them and stood to the side to watch them carefully. He watched the nurse direct James in front of the screen and instruct him to hold both arms out at his sides as she moved the screen a little more towards the right.
"Try to stay still while we take the scans. If you could come and stand behind the desk with me?" She turned towards Evan and pointed to the desk behind a plastic screen and Evan nodded. He smoothed a hand over his chin and turned to face her, about to follow after her until James suddenly cried out so loud it was as if he had screamed.
"Dad don't leave me! Dad no please-"
"James, James baby calm down," With quick steps, Evan skidded over to stand in front of the dark grey screen that was placed from James's collar bone down to his knees. He stretched his arms over the top of the screen so he could cup James's face, gently swiping his thumbs over his cheeks to collect the stray tears. "Sshh, I'm here."
"D- don't go,"
"I'm not leaving you I swear. I'll be stood right behind that desk you can still see me, they need me out the way to get a clear picture but I'm not leaving. Come on, one minute and it'll all be over." Evan tilted his head down and kissed James's temple, looking at him encouragingly as he waited until James nodded before he slowly let go.
He would stand right in front of him or beside him if he had the choice, but he couldn't. He needed to be well clear so he didn't soak up any excess radiation and he couldn't be too close and ruin the scan photos or make James lose focus and move at the wrong time.
Evan folded his arms up against his chest and covered his face with his hands, digging his fingertips into his cheekbones to stop himself from screaming. The nurse had to time it right to take the photos when James wasn't shaking or it would be blurred. He decided to stay put behind the desk when the nurse went to ask James to turn sideways. He didn't want to risk upsetting James again if he moved within his sight and then disappeared round the corner again.
As soon as the second set of X-rays were done, Evan let out a shaky breath, hearing James weakly calling out for him.
"Dad,"
"I'm here, it's all done I'm here baby." He cupped his chin and kissed his temple, curving his free arm around his shoulders to reel his son into his chest. And he held his breath when he felt James's short nails digging into his shoulders through his shirt. "See, you did it."
"If you take him back to the emergency waiting room, the consultant will call you through to discuss the results."
"Okay. Let's put your shirt on, look."
Grabbing the shirt, Evan scrunched it up and placed his hands through the sleeves so he could gently hold James's hands. He reeled the shirt up his son's arms and then slid it over his head so he didn't have to lift his arms up and strain his chest.
They made a slow trail back towards the first waiting room back in A&E, noticing two more people had left and one couple had turned up since they'd been here. It really was a slow night. When they got to the waiting room, Evan jingled his keys around in his pocket before he sat down but he narrowed his eyes and tilted his head up when James didn't sit down next to him.
He stood in front of him, shaking his hands at his sides as he started to fidget from foot to foot with a panicked, pale expression.
"I feel sick."
"Okay… wait there a sec," Evan trapsed over to the reception desk, showing them his best smile. "Sick bucket please." The cardboard bucket looked unappealing and rather like a bed pan but it would do the trick if James threw up. Evan doubted he would, he was overwhelmed and he hadn't had any tea since they had been in a rush to get here, he was probably feeling faint from the day's events.
He headed back over to James and sat down, handing him the bucket but James looked like he wasn't sure what to do with himself. He didn't want to sit down and he didn't want to stay standing, he was uncomfortable and uneasy.
"Come here," Reaching out, he gently pulled James down until he was sat on his lap.
It had been a long time since James had sat with him like this, he may be a teenager but he looked a bit older than his age due to his height. It was different than when Evan had Josie or Cole on his lap and soon he would have two even younger kids to carry around and sit on his lap. But James was his oldest, his first baby.
And he didn't object.
He slumped down onto Evan's lap, tucked his face just beneath his dad's chin and curled up to make himself as small as possible. He kept his left arm tucked between their chests and held the sick bucket with his right hand, leaving it on his knee just in case he decided he did need to be sick.
Evan ran his hand up and down James's back and kissed the top of his head, swaying them from side to side for a while.
He wished circumstances would have been different. It would have been lovely to hug James and be this close and have one to one time with him for any other reason than being stuck in hospital. He wished they had been out on a boys afternoon spending time together or at home watching tv rather than being here. But Evan was relieved that James was clinging to him and wasn't pushing him away. He was seeking comfort that Evan was more than happy to provide for him.
Every now and then, James shimmied around and whimpered, holding the bucket close to his face but he didn't throw up. He tilted his head into Evan's neck and moaned, wishing they could just go home already.
"Shh, we won't be here much longer." His hand ran up and down James's back but he stopped swaying them when his name was called out. "See, we're going through now. Can you walk… you know I can still carry you," Evan was partly joking, just to see what reaction he would get but his eyes widened when James didn't move and just stayed burrowed into his chest.
It had been at least three, maybe four years, since Evan had properly carried James around.
"God, it's been a while, buddy." Evan huffed quietly but he wasn't complaining in the least.
He stood up with James in his arms, waiting a second so James could hook his legs around Evan's torso and slump his head onto his shoulder with the sick bucket still grasped tightly in his hand. Evan walked towards the same consultant they saw earlier and followed him back into the same cubicle. Suddenly relieved he had been doing more training at the gym so he could easily carry his eldest son around like this.
He eased James down into the chair and sat down next to him, letting James flop down and lay across his lap. James closed his eyes and curled his legs as close to his stomach as he could without causing any pain to his chest. He felt at ease when his dad's fingers tangled in his hair.
"I've got the results back… it looks like the bottom three ribs are broken and there's extensive bruising. But they are all clean breaks which is much better than fractures. I don't think we will need an ultrasound, I'll listen to his lungs to confirm his breathing is fine."
Evan scratched his jaw, his other hand freezing in James's knotted hair. So he had broken his ribs, three of them, not just two like Chimney guessed. James had never broken a bone in his life and that was an achievement to Evan, considering his own upbringing. He didn't want any of his kids to ever go through the pain of broken bones or any damage while they were still kids. He wanted his experiences kept away from theirs.
"Buddy, can you sit up please?" Evan let go of him and straightened up in his chair so that James could slowly push himself up into a sitting position.
He looked drained.
His complexion was gone, his lips were pasty and chapped, his eyes were hooded and tears were streaked down his face. He needed painkillers, sleep and love.
"Deep breaths for me," The doctor listened to his lungs for a minute before he wheeled his chair back to his desk. "They sound fine, no crackling or fluid. I'm going to bind your chest to keep the ribs in place, someone will have to do this every time he takes the bandage off for a wash. Then in three weeks, I'd like a follow up just to make sure the ribs are healing."
"That's fine." He and (Y/n) both had experience with bandages, they would be able to keep his chest wrapped tight to help with the pain.
Evan helped James hook the front of his shirt around the back of his neck so it was scrunched up but still over his shoulders. It was easier than removing the top to just put it back on again in a few minutes.
James wobbled on his feet and stood between Evan's thighs, keeping his arms out at his sides while the doctor wrapped a roll of thick bandage around his lower torso just above his belly button. Every time it curved round, James whimpered and jolted backwards into his dad's chest and he snapped his eyes closed to try and block out the discomfort and the aching feeling pulsing through his chest.
"I'd like to give him something for the pain, just a small injection to work quickly, then I can prescribe some painkillers for the first week to make him comfortable."
"That would be helpful."
An injection would get into James's system faster and would make him a lot more settled tonight if he had some quick pain relief. Then they could start him on whatever tablets he was prescribed tomorrow to keep the pain at bay and help because sleeping, twisting and carrying anything was going to be hard. James was going to be on restricted duties just like his mum.
James plonked himself back down on Evan's lap and leaned his head back on his shoulder but tremors rattled through him when the doctor scooted his chair in front of them. He had a bottle of painkillers on his desk and now a full needle in his hand. His smile was comforting, but the needle was what worried James.
"Dad…"
"Just close your eyes, don't look." Needles, sickness, blood and gore didn't bother Evan. He had seen people without body parts, with holes in their bodies, intestines falling out and muscles ripped off. A needle was miniscule compared to some of the things he had seen.
For James, they didn't bother him as much if they weren't used on him, but if it was going into his arm, then he felt uneasy. It was the look more than the feeling that usually set James on edge.
"Are you okay?" The doctor put the needle in the sharps bin when he was done but he frowned when he looked back at James, who was now breathing shallow and looked as if he couldn't hold his head up.
"No," His head flopped back onto Evan's shoulder causing his glasses to slide down the bridge of his nose and his arms went slack at his sides.
"Fuck- James, James… buddy come on," Evan kept his left arm looped tight around his son's middle to stop him sliding down to the floor while the doctor held his wrist to check his pulse. Evan curled his right hand into a fist and started to rub his knuckles up and down James's sternum, applying pressure to try and stimulate him and bring him back round.
"Is this because of his injuries or the needle?"
"He doesn't like needles- there we go, good lad. Can I take him home now?" He sat James up against his chest and patted his arm, trying to smile at him but he still looked like he was going to either faint again or be sick.
"Yes you can take him home, just call back in three weeks for a follow up."
"No problem, thank you."
"Dad?"
"Yeah, I got you buddy, we're heading home now," He carefully spun James round in his arms and picked him up, holding him against his chest so he could carry him out. He felt James's arms coil around his neck and his face buried into the crook of his neck while his legs moved to hook over his hips. Evan made sure to grab the sick bucket on the way out and headed back to the jeep.
James grumbled, coiling his arms to his chest when his dad laid him down in the passenger seat. He didn't move or complain when Evan strapped him in and when he shut the door, James slumped his head against the window.
Evan leaned his hip against the passenger door, folding one arm over his chest while his other hand fished out his phone and held it to his ear. He smiled encouragingly when James tried to look at him through the window before he closed his eyes again.
"Hi baby, we're just about to come home now." He could almost hear the relief radiating off his wife through the phone. Both of them had silently worried that James might have to stay in overnight or have more scans if his ribs were fractured in the wrong way.
"Thank God, how is he? Are they broken?"
"Yep, he's broken three ribs and a hell of a lot of bruising. They gave him a shot of pain relief and he keeled over. I uh, I'm carrying him around like he's turned into Cole. I think I might pull out the camp bed and stay in his room tonight, I don't think he's gonna sleep well."
They had a pull out bed in James's room in case he ever wanted friends to sleep over or in case Cole had a nightmare and wanted to stay in his room. Evan had already made up his mind to sleep on the camp bed, he didn't fancy leaving James alone in this state when moving his arms was hurting him. Tossing and turning in his sleep was going to wake him up in agony even with a shot of pain medication.
Evan would feel a lot better if he stayed with him in case James needed anything or he couldn't get to sleep.
"Ooh, God." (Y/n) brushed her sleeve beneath her nose, trying in vain to stop herself from crying for the third time tonight. "I've got tea ready for you both and if you stay with him, Cole can stay with me. The antibiotics are making him sick. Maddie and Chimney have already gone to make a statement."
"Just wait 'til I go and make a statement. We're leaving now so we won't be long, I swear I'm putting our house on lockdown as of now." He rounded the side of the car and hopped into the driver's seat.
He would call Bobby when they got home to ask for the week off, then none of them were leaving the house. Cole, (Y/n) and James were all going to stay in and rest and Evan wasn't letting Josie out of his sight in case she was the next one to come down with something or get hurt.
"Sounds good to me, baby."
***
"It hurts."
Evan grimaced as he put the safety pin in place and took a step back, frowning at his handiwork he was studying to make sure it wouldn't come loose.
"I know buddy but it's gotta be tight or else there's no point." If Evan wrapped the bandages round James's chest loosely, there would be no point in him having them on. They had to be tight to keep his ribs in place and try to help him heal and he had to wear the bandage for at least three weeks. None of them were going to get through the next month easily.
Evan reached up into the bathroom cupboard and placed the bandage roll back on the top shelf while James put his shirt back on. He had kept the first bandage on for two days before he kindly asked (Y/n) to take it off for him so he could get a bath. He had purposely left his chest bandage-free for an hour to breathe easier and have a break until his dad went for a shower, then he collared him to ask for help with a new bandage. Now he had a fresh roll wrapped around his torso and another ache pounding in his chest.
"Daddy!" Josie pushed open the bathroom door and clung to the door handle, swaying back and forth on her heels with a small smile in Evan's direction.
"Why do you all wait until I need the bathroom to find me?" He mused quietly with a grin. "What do you need, babygirl?"
He had barely got out the shower when James came in, shyly asking for help with his bandage. Evan had barely had chance to put his underwear on and he still hadn't shaved yet and now Josie decided she also needed his attention. Everyone in their house seemed to know exactly when Evan needed the toilet or a shower because that was when they went shouting the house down to find him.
"Mummy said she needs you now,"
Evan looked from Josie back to James who whistled and his lips formed a smirk until he realised Evan wasn't amused.
"Oi," Evan clipped the back of his hand lightly against James's shoulder before he reached out and took Josie's outstretched hand, letting her lead him out the bathroom.
"You're not dressed," She mused quietly, looking Evan up and down as she guided him down the hall towards his room. It was fairly normal for Evan to mill about the house in just a pair of jogging bottoms and no shirt, but he only went about in his boxers if he was in a rush or if he was extremely tired after a long shift.
"And who's fault is that?"
"Mummy's fault," Josie quipped back and as if to prove her point, she turned her head and ran her fingers along the tattoo etched into Evan's left wrist that she happened to be holding in a fierce grip. Josie took great pleasure in memorising all of Evan's various tattoos and telling everyone what they were, what they symbolised and if they were new or old.
She didn't like the circular bands around his forearm, but she did like the lyrics on his other arm from his elbow down to his wrist. She knew he had (Y/n)'s name on his left wrist, James's name along with his footprint from when he was born were etched across the left side of his chest just beneath his collar bone.
Obviously her favourite was her name along with the shaded grey flower on Evan's right shoulder. Then there was Cole's name on Evan's left shoulder along with a dove in flight at the end of his name. And Josie knew her dad had three other symbols etched onto his torso, his upper chest and another near his belly button.
"Alright, we'll blame your mum. Now go check on Cole for me please babygirl," Evan turned her in the right direction, planted a sloppy kiss to the top of her head and sent her off towards Cole's room.
"What's my fault?"
A grin spread across Evan's lips and he arched a brow, nudging the bedroom door shut behind him before he advanced into the room. His eyes locked on (Y/n) in an instant, seeing her sat on the end of the bed wearing just her bra and a pair of leggings. His arms folded across his chest and he stood in front of the wardrobe just a few feet in front of her.
"The fact that I'm not dressed because I was told you needed me. Urgently."
(Y/n) found her lips curving up into a smile and she playfully rolled her eyes when a charismatic look overcame Evan's features. Of course that was her fault. Why wouldn't it be?
"Dare I ask what you need me for?"
"A consult… I think I've had a bad reaction." Biting down on her lower lip, (Y/n) held her arms out in front of her and waited for Evan to see what she meant. Her eyes followed him, watching the way his grin fell into a frown and his eyes narrowed in on her arms. He let his arms flop at his sides and pushed off the wardrobe so he could cross the distance between them.
He knelt down on the carpet in front of her, gently nudging her thighs to the sides so he could squeeze between them. His hands wormed their way over her thighs before he gently cupped her wrists and stretched her arms out so he could examine them.
"What did you do?" There was no anger or irritation directed in Evan's voice, all (Y/n) could hear was concern radiating through his tone and flooding off him in waves.
"I was putting on some cream, clearly it doesn't like me." She reached beside her for the small tube of cream that had turned her hands and wrists a very dark colour with red splotches that were starting to itch. (Y/n) hadn't used this brand before, but she'd never had reactions to any creams or lotions before now, it was usually Evan and Josie who reacted to everything. The pair of them had to have very plain and simple shower creams and couldn't use bath bombs as it brought them both out in a rash.
"I think you better stay away from Aloe Vera from now on, baby."
Evan gently let go of her wrists, reminding himself to search for the antiseptic cream in a minute to see if that would help. He tossed the handcream somewhere near the bedroom door as a reminder to go and throw it in the bin before he slid his hands over her thighs again and curved them up around her hips.
He pushed up on his toes and leaned forward, balancing his weight so he could press a gentle kiss against her stomach. A low groan burned at the back of his throat when he felt (Y/n)'s fingers tangle in the short curls at the back of his head. His hands dug into the back of her hips and he hooked his fingers into the waistband of her leggings, curling his lips into a smirk when she looked down at him.
"What are you doing?"
"What, you can't guess?" He shifted up until he was crouching between her thighs, both hands planted down on the mattress either side of her and he leaned forward to steal a kiss.
"And when the kids come looking for us?"
A wolfish grin spread across Evan's lips that hovered so close to hers that she could feel each shallow breath he took. "I'm sure they can wait ten minutes. We're busy."

In the hushed quiet of your home, you and Buck found yourselves enveloped in the soft glow of morning. Buck was quietly pulling up his uniform, taking a few sips of his coffee. You on the other hand had a long morning today, lingering a bit longer in your pijama.
You watched your fiancé with a dump smile and a heavy heart as he buckled his shoes, preparing for a new day as a firefighter. Every shift you couldn't help but feel the whole world's pressure on your shoulders, worrying a little too much about his safety, despite he came home safe and sound every time.
As you sat on the edge of the bed, your fingers were trembling as you held yet another negative test in your hands, a heavy sigh escaped your lips. For months, you've been trying for a baby, thinking "how hard it must be", your hearts brimming with hope with each pregnancy test, only to be met with disappointment time and time again.
Buck's expression etched with concern, wrapped his arms around you in a comforting embrace, trying to give you a bit of his hope, his heart aching at the sight of your crestfallen face.
"I'm sorry, babe," you murmured, your voice thick with unshed tears. "I thought... I thought this might be it."
Buck's heart twisted with love as he gently wiped away your tears, his own emotions swirling with a mixture of frustration and longing. "It's okay, sweetheart," he whispered, pressing a tender kiss to your forehead. "We'll keep trying."
As much as he wanted a family with you, in this moment if possible, he knew this things take time. You can't rush life, every little thing has its own moment. He could understand your frustration, motherhood is something almost every woman look forward and being this close to fulfil your dream, it's painful to see weeks turn into months, each day holding a negative pregnancy test between your fingers.
"Be safe out there and don't be a stranger!" you shouted after Buck placed the sweetest kisses all over your face and told you how much he loved you over and over before leaving for work that morning.
Buck tried to man up himself and wash away negative thoughts. He told himself it's not something he can control, it's out of your hands and there's nothing more you can do. Or at least he's trying to do that.
You, on the other hand, can't help but feel like you're letting Buck down. You know how much he wants a family with you, something he can feel like he belongs to, an anchor to keep him floating at the surface in this chaos.
For yourself, bringing a life in this world is a step in your relationship with Buck that seems about right and it's the perfect time to meet your dreams come true. Only that your dreams are not in a hurry to take part of this conversation just yet.
It's been six months since that last barbecue at Bobby and Athena's house, months you've spent daydreaming of a small version of Buck playing around, filling your silent home with laughter, irradiating joy and love, lightning your lives.
Days passed the same: work, home, Buck and repeat. Monotony installing into your bones and mind, you started to lose hope little by little with every negative test you threw away every morning. Your characteristic smile started to be missed by your family and friends, even people from work started questioning you every shift.
You ok, hun?
Something happened?
You know, if you need to talk...
The disappointment was so strong planted in yourself that one morning you didn't even notice the glow you irradiated and the small smile being brought back to your lips. You somehow felt the world differently, you didn't even realise you stepped out of monotony. Instead of having lunch break at your workplace, your footsteps surprised you in front of the fire station, unknowingly missing Buck and the joy of the 118.
"Y/N!" everyone cheered happily at the sight of you, rushing down the stairs to greet you and hug you. It's been months since your last lunch at the station and since you last saw your friends.
Bobby took your purse as you and Hen walked to the dining area, the smile growing beautifully as you were catching up with everyone's lives. You were so focused on one thing that could change your life that you forgot how happy you were before. You thought you needed that change to be happening as soon as possible, thinking it will make you happy and fulfilled, that you missed the part where your life was perfect as it was.
"Hey stranger!" Eddie greeted you before you could take a sit at the table, giving you a big, tight hug. "It's so nice to have you around! We missed you!"
"Ah, you know, busy life!" you tried to laugh the world's weight off of your shoulders, hugging Eddie back.
As the lunch unfolded without any surprises, sitting right next to Buck at the table, holding his hand, laughing from the bottom of your heart at the last incidents Chim and Hen detailed, you could feel the hope installing in your bones again.
"Well isn't that a beautiful face I didn't have the pleasure to see at this table for a long time now!" Athena made her way up the stairs, greeting you. "Nice to see you, child!"
Since you left home, Athena and Bobby were the closest thing to the parental figures you missed in the last years. You greeted her with the biggest smile, and after you all finished the delicious lunch Bobby had made, you checked the time. You still had a half an hour before you needed to be back for work.
You enjoyed your time spent with Buck and your friends at the station before the alarm started to replace your laughter. You kissed your fiancé goodbye, reminding him to be safe.
As you gathered your things, ready to return to your work place, Athena placed a hand on your shoulder "You ready? Imma give you a ride."
As you quietly sat in the police car, listening to the dispatch calling out for different situations, assigning cars, Athena broke the silence.
"I can see that look in your eyes. You're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, aren't you?"
"Oh-uh, I just—" you stopped, weighting the words before giving life to your thoughts. "I feel like I'm letting Buck down."
Those words surprised you too, as you didn't realised you really meant that before it came out of your mouth. Your voice barely above a whisper, you continued "He wants this so badly, and I can't give it to him. I don't know what to do."
Athena's hand found yours, a gesture of solidarity amidst the turmoil of your emotions. "You're not letting him down, honey," she reassured, her voice filled with unwavering conviction. "Sometimes, these things take time. But you're not alone in this. There are specialists who can help, if you're willing to take that step."
Few days passed, the untouched pregnancy tests surprising both you and Buck. "I thought maybe worrying less and going with the flow might help." you giggled, as you and Buck cuddled a bit more before getting the day started. It wasn't necessarily a lie, not a bad one at least.
It felt nice, not having to worry about every single thing in your life for a few days, but as Athena's words echoed in your mind, you couldn't help it.
You found yourself standing outside the office of a specialist, your heart fluttering with a mixture of hope and trepidation. But as you stepped inside and faced the prospect of yet another round of tests and examinations, a glimmer of hope flickered within your soul. You had to make sure nothing is wrong. If the specialist would tell you everything is fine, that there's nothing you should worry about, then indeed you'd be ready to worry less and leave the life do the things at its own pace.
Weeks passed as usual, happier and tender than before. Each night Buck loved you more and more, some more intense, showering you with his sincere passion and affection, some gentle and romantic. Your love for each other grew stronger than ever and you were at the point where you didn't even think you could love Buck more.
But today felt different. It was something inside that guided you to that specific bathroom drawer you didn't open for weeks, trying to keep under control the obsession you've developed. Today you felt the need to open it.
In the quiet stillness of the morning, as the first light of dawn cast its golden rays upon your home, you found yourself clutching a pregnancy test in trembling hands once more. As the seconds ticked by with agonizing slowness, your heart pounded in your chest, your breath catching in your throat.
Something felt different, you couldn't explain it. As the two pink lines appeared in a silent testament to your hopes and dreams, a wave of overwhelming joy washed over you, tears streaming down your cheeks, tears filled with happiness, hope, and the purest form of love.
Buck noticed something has changed lately, as if the very air was charged with an electric energy. He put it on the fact that you finally got the power to turn off the worrying shadows that's been darkening your mind this past few months.
You checked your phone, rereading Buck's message over and over again, fidgeting with your fingers nervously. Doctor confirmed your pregnancy and today is the day. You knew Buck will be so excited to hear the news but... maybe, just maybe, you thought after all this months of trying, he would've changed his mind.
Sabotaging yourself with this kind of thoughts, your body shuddered at the sound of your fiancé's voice.
"It was a stupid, boring day!" Buck placed his bag on the floor with frustration. Boring is something Buck hates more than anything. He likes action, fire, running around like crazy from one call to another. He might've changed over time, but deep down he's still the reckless boy that once opened for the first time the station's doors.
"Well hello my favourite man! My fearless firefighter. My love. My world." you giggled as you kissed him, placing your lips on his skin after every word.
"Stop lying to me." he laughed, hugging you so tight, spinning around with you on his arms. Secretly he thanked the heavens for that boring day, keeping him safe, in one piece so that he could come back home to you. The most beautiful and precious woman in his life. "What smells so good?"
"Dinner. Got off early today and thought maybe I should do something special. Your favourite." you lied to him again, but it was for his own good. Today was your doctor's appointment so you took the day off.
"Oh, I missed your dinners!" he smiled, placing a kiss on your cheek.
"Go wash your hands and you can tell me how much you love me after!" you joke, motioning Buck to the bathroom.
As you arranged the table, serving Buck with his favourite meal, you laughed at his frustration with the stupid kids pulling pranks and getting stuck in weird places.
"How was your day?" your fiancé asked, mouth full of the magic food, as he couldn't help but name it every time.
"Oh, you know. Same thing every day, nothing special there." you caressed his hand. "That reminds me..." you left the words hanging in the air as you rushed to your bedroom, grabbing a box. A mischievous glint in your eye and a mysterious package cradled in your arms. Buck's curiosity piqued, he watched with bated breath as you approached, your smile radiant and infectious. You placed it next to Buck, excitedly waiting for him to open it.
"What's this?" he asked, whipping his hands. You didn't respond, as if you didn't hear a word he said.
His fingers trembling as he unwrapped it with care. And then, as the contents were revealed, his breath caught in his throat, his eyes widening in disbelief. Nestled within the confines of the package was a uniform, its tiny size a stark contrast to the enormity of the moment it represented. But it was the words emblazoned upon the fabric that stole Buck's breath away: "Daddy's Little Firefighter."
Tears welled in Buck's eyes as he looked up at you, his heart overflowing with emotion. "Are you... Are we...?" he stammered, his voice choked with emotion.
In that moment, beneath the canopy of stars, amidst the quiet stillness of the night, your hearts were soaring with the promise of a future filled with love and laughter.
You nodded, your eyes shining with unshed tears of joy. "Yeah, Buck," you whispered, "You're going to be a dad!" your voice trembling with emotion. "We're going to be parents."

ADORABLE (RILEY ANDERSON MC x EVAN BUCKLEY)
Tumblr media
The firehouse was always a place of chaos, camaraderie, and the occasional dose of high-stakes adrenaline. But recently, amidst all the calls and the banter, one thing had become a staple of the 118 — the collective obsession with Buck and Riley’s relationship. It wasn’t just that they were adorable together; it was the way they made their love so unmistakable and genuine, even when they didn’t realize it.
Everyone had noticed from the very beginning. When Riley Anderson joined the 118 a little over a year ago, her thick Northern English accent had piqued the team’s curiosity. She was tough, skilled, and quick-witted, never shying away from banter or hard work. But it didn’t take long for Buck, always the flirt, to be drawn to her in a way that was different from how he interacted with anyone else.
At first, it was small things—Buck poking fun at her Britishness, making quips about tea and crumpets, all while his lingering looks said more than his words. And while Riley played it cool, everyone could see the way her eyes softened just a touch when Buck was near. It became a running joke at the station that they were the worst-kept secret, even when they tried to hide their affection behind sarcastic remarks and quick glances.
Now, three years into their relationship and living together, their bond had only grown stronger. The team was utterly obsessed, unable to get enough of how Buck and Riley made even the most mundane moments cute. They didn’t do it on purpose; they weren’t the kind of couple who flaunted their affection, but that somehow made it all the more irresistible to watch.
One particular day, the 118 had just returned from a call, still buzzing with adrenaline. Riley, as usual, was the first to head for the showers, her hair matted from sweat and grime. Buck, trailing behind her, grabbed her hand briefly, squeezing it just once before letting go, and it was like a signal to the rest of the team.
“Did you see that?” Eddie grinned, nudging Hen. “It’s like they can’t go two seconds without touching.”
Hen smirked, shaking her head in mock disbelief. “I give it five minutes before Buck’s looking for another excuse to ‘accidentally’ bump into her.”
Sure enough, as soon as Riley was out of the showers and back in her locker room gear, Buck appeared by her side, offering her a bottle of water as if she couldn’t have gotten it herself.
“You hydrated?” he asked, his voice casual but with an underlying tone of concern.
Riley rolled her eyes playfully but took the bottle anyway. “I think I can handle getting my own water, Buck.”
“Yeah, but I do it better,” he shot back with a wink, leaning in to press a quick kiss to her temple.
From across the room, Bobby watched with a fond smile. He didn’t say much about their relationship, but everyone knew the captain had a soft spot for the pair. He had taken on a mentor role for both Riley and Buck, and seeing them together, thriving in both their relationship and careers, filled him with a quiet sense of pride.
Later that day, when the group gathered in the lounge for lunch, Chimney couldn’t help himself. He leaned over the table, a mischievous grin on his face.
“Okay, I have to know,” he said, staring pointedly at Buck. “Do you guys ever fight, or is it just constant cute moments and puppy dog eyes?”
Riley, who had been mid-bite, nearly choked on her food as Buck laughed. “Oh, we fight. She’s got a mean left hook,” Buck teased, but his hand found its way to the small of Riley’s back as if to soften the joke.
Riley raised an eyebrow, playing along. “And you’ve got a face that’s too easy to aim for.”
The entire table burst into laughter, but there was something unspoken beneath their words—something so solid and trusting that even when they joked about arguments, it was clear how deeply they cared for one another.
Athena, who had been quietly observing from her seat, chimed in. “You know, I’ve seen plenty of couples in this line of work. It’s not easy. But you two? You make it look effortless.”
Buck and Riley exchanged a glance, both of them a little embarrassed by the praise but grateful all the same.
“It’s not,” Buck admitted softly, his usual bravado slipping for just a moment. “But I think when you’ve got the right person, it’s worth every challenge.”
Riley’s hand found his under the table, giving it a gentle squeeze. “He’s not wrong. We make it work because we want to.”
The team’s collective swoon was almost palpable. Chimney dramatically placed a hand over his heart. “I swear, you two are going to give me a toothache with how sweet you are.”
“You love it,” Riley shot back, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
“Of course we do,” Hen said with a grin. “I mean, how can we not? You two are like the firehouse’s own rom-com.”
From then on, it was like the 118 had a radar for all the little moments between Buck and Riley. Whether it was Buck casually wrapping an arm around her shoulders as they walked, or Riley giving him that rare, soft smile she reserved only for him, the team was obsessed. It wasn’t just the romance—it was the way their connection was woven into everything they did. It made the hard days easier, the victories sweeter, and the family at the 118 even closer.
As the day wound down and the sun began to set, the team gathered outside the station, enjoying the cooler evening air. Riley leaned against Buck’s chest, his arms wrapped around her waist as they both watched the city skyline. It was a rare quiet moment, and the rest of the crew, scattered nearby, couldn’t help but steal glances.
“They’re ridiculous,” Eddie said quietly to Hen, though his tone was affectionate.
Hen nodded. “Completely. But I wouldn’t change a thing.”
And none of them would. Because in a job where danger was always looming, the love that Buck and Riley shared was a reminder of why they all did what they did. It was a reminder of the joy that could be found even in the hardest of times. And, frankly, it was just too adorable to ignore.
As the evening air cooled around them, the 118 lingered outside, caught between the easy camaraderie of a quiet night and the unspoken affection between Buck and Riley. The pair stood wrapped in each other, the fading light casting a golden glow over their relaxed forms. It was the kind of peace the station didn’t often see—a respite from the chaos that usually marked their lives.
Chimney, sitting on one of the outdoor benches, nudged Hen with his elbow. “Look at them,” he whispered, although he wasn’t really being subtle. “They’re like a couple out of a Hallmark movie, aren’t they?”
Hen smirked, shaking her head. “I don’t think Hallmark movies have nearly as much sarcasm and banter.”
Athena, overhearing from a few feet away, leaned in. “Or firefighting. But still,” she added with a soft smile, “they do make it look easy.”
Eddie, standing by the truck, caught Buck’s eye and gave him a knowing look, shaking his head in mock disbelief. “Don’t you ever get tired of being this disgustingly in love?”
Buck grinned, one arm still loosely around Riley as he shrugged. “Nope. And don’t act like you’re not jealous.
Riley tilted her head back to glance up at Buck, her eyes twinkling with amusement. “He’s definitely jealous,” she agreed, playing along.
Eddie rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the smile tugging at his lips. “Yeah, yeah. Keep telling yourself that.”
Despite all the teasing, it was obvious to everyone that there was no jealousy—just a genuine fondness for the couple who had somehow become the heartbeat of the team. Buck and Riley’s relationship wasn’t just about them; it had woven itself into the fabric of the 118, bringing with it a sense of warmth and family that had made the crew even tighter than before.
As the night deepened, Bobby, ever the observant captain, finally spoke up from his spot by the station doors. “Alright, enough standing around gawking at the lovebirds. Who’s up for a game of pool inside?”
The suggestion was met with eager responses, and soon enough, the group filtered back into the station. Buck and Riley trailed behind, her hand still casually hooked around his, their easy connection evident in even the smallest gestures.
Inside, the station’s rec room was lively with the sounds of friendly competition. Hen lined up her shot at the pool table while Chimney gave running commentary, always ready to crack a joke. Athena and Bobby sat at one of the tables, watching the team with a mixture of amusement and pride.
Buck and Riley, though, found themselves on one of the couches, content to watch the others from a distance. Riley curled up against Buck’s side, her head resting on his shoulder as he absentmindedly played with the ends of her hair. It was these quiet moments that often struck the rest of the crew the most—the way they didn’t need words or grand gestures to show their love. It was there, in the way they leaned into each other, in the stolen glances and soft smiles, in the comfortable silence between them.
Chimney couldn’t resist throwing another comment their way. “You two just gonna sit there and be cute, or are you actually gonna join in?”
Buck laughed, shifting slightly to tighten his arm around Riley. “We’re good here. Besides, I don’t need to embarrass you all at pool again.”
Hen chimed in with a smirk. “Oh, please. Last time you played, you nearly scratched on every shot.”
“That’s because Riley was distracting me,” Buck shot back, feigning innocence as Riley nudged him in the ribs, a playful grin on her face.
“Oh, sure, blame me,” she teased, though the affection in her voice was clear.
Eddie, having finished his own turn at the table, walked over and shook his head. “You two are impossible. It’s like you’re stuck in honeymoon mode forever.”
“That’s just who they are,” Athena said from her spot, her voice tinged with warmth. “And you know what? It’s good for them. For all of us.”
Bobby nodded in agreement, looking over at the couple with a fatherly pride that he rarely expressed out loud. “They’ve found something special. That’s rare in this line of work.”
Riley, catching the sentiment behind their words, sat up a little straighter, her expression softening as she glanced around at the group. “You lot act like we’re the only ones who have something good,” she said, her voice teasing but genuine. “This whole team, it’s a family. That’s special too.”
There was a moment of silence after her words, a pause where everyone seemed to take in the truth of what she’d said. It wasn’t just Buck and Riley’s relationship that made the 118 feel like home—it was the connection they all shared, the way they looked out for each other, teased each other, loved each other in their own way.
Chimney, always the first to break a serious moment, clapped his hands together. “Alright, alright. Enough with the sappy stuff. Let’s see if Hen can actually finish this game without losing to me.”
The mood shifted back into playful banter, but the warmth lingered. As the night wore on, and the crew settled into their usual rhythms, Riley and Buck remained close, content in the knowledge that they weren’t just a couple within a team—they were part of something bigger. Their love, as much as it was about the two of them, had become a reflection of the family they’d found at the 118.
Later, as the station quieted down and the night shift rolled on, Buck and Riley found themselves back outside under the stars, standing in the same spot where the team had teased them earlier. Riley wrapped her arms around Buck’s waist, leaning her head against his chest as he kissed the top of her head.
“You know they’re never going to stop teasing us,” she murmured, her voice laced with affection.
Buck chuckled, his arms tightening around her. “Let them. I don’t mind.”
Riley looked up at him, her eyes soft in the dim light. “Me neither.”
They stood there for a while longer, just the two of them, wrapped in each other as the city lights flickered in the distance. Inside, their family—the 118—was waiting, ready to tease, to laugh, to love, and to face whatever came next, together.

oooooooh okay ~ (iykyk moment x)

Footsteps bound up the stairs of the apartment building, he always takes two at a time. They thunder down the halls, he grips his key in his hand, cold metal embedding into his skin. He unlocks and throws the door open, slamming it quickly shut behind him with force that shakes the thin walls. Hopefully it doesn't bother his neighbours; he doesn't realise how much tension he's been holding until he starts to let go. He falls back against the door, screwing his face up in agony. The urge to yell builds in his chest. The universe had been screaming at him, and he didn't listen. He didn't hear it until it was too late. Now it's laughing at him and he isn't sure he has the power to fight it. The power to change it.
Texas? Are you fucking kidding me, Eddie? I want Chris back desperately, but I want him back here! Back Home! It's your fucking parents' fault, you know they have no intention of giving Chris back. You know they've been hunting for him ever since he was born. He belongs here, with us, with his family. Not just you and me, but Hen and Chim and Bobby and Athena and Karen and Denny and Mara and Jee and… and I can't have you both gone, I just can't. I can't.
All of the anger in his blood boils, and then the fire goes out. The heat dissipates, wrenching every ounce of energy from his muscles. He melts, collapsing onto the hardwood floor. One sharp, overdue breath and he is lost. There is no holding back the dam of sorrow that follows. A loud sob bursts from his chest, he grips one arm around himself and clutches his mouth with the other. His body trembles as he tries to keep himself together. Tears well and bubble in his eyes, he gains that burn in his sinuses and they flow. They flow hard and fast and unrelenting.
Nobody stays. Nobody fucking stays. I am alone again. I'm too much. I'm not enough. What's the fucking point in trying to have that perfect connection if it never lasts? I'm sick of it. I'm sick of trying. I'm sick of feeling. I'm not going to do it anymore. I just want to feel good. Wanted. Useful. Used.

911 "Final Approach" S8 x E3 Spoilers.
Tumblr media
This really was a great episode. Never enough Buddie for me, but I do have some speculation about them which I'll get to later. This is a reaction post, so it is a lot of stream-of-conscious stuff and very spoiler-heavy.
-Athena either has the best luck in the world or the worst. I mean it was one bad thing after the other the whole episode. She did land the plane though with no casualties related to her landing. I'll never get over how bad a$$ Athena is. I'll die on that hill.
-Brad was a lot of fun in this episode and his interaction was fun too. I laughed out loud for real and several times during this episode.
-My favorite Buck line had to be when he realized that Brad was British. "I would never have known he was British." And Brad's response, "It's called acting son." That was a nice nod to Oliver from Oliver's character.
-The whole landing was just so intense. When it got to the actual landing part, I felt like I was going to puke. (I felt this way even though I knew how it would end.) I'm going to call that a win on the writing, acting, and directing of the episode.
-Bathena was the WINNING ship in this episode. Bobby knew he missed her calls and he was so desperate to talk to her so she could hear his voice and know that he was with her and had her back. Bathena genuinely gave me chills this episode.
-We also reached the limits of the prodigy child who knew all about planes. He always crashed them in the simulation. The funniest Athena line in this episode is after her failed attempt to make the kid feel better by telling him he may have crashed in simulation but this was real life. The look on his little face and on Athena's when she said, "That sounded different in my head."
-The one-liners were rolling from everyone in this episode. When Josh said, "Oh you sweet naive man." Josh knows you have to expect the unexpected with the 118. LOL
-I loved Bobby putting Brad to work. I really could see Brad trying to join the fire department for real after this. Brad's behavior afterward, pretending that he was a real firefighter, the man is already showing signs of being unhinged. I think the crazy is going to crank up at some point. Loved that Brad fainted when he saw a real-life injury though.
-We did have a few good Buck scenes. I love that character like he's a real person. There were no real Buddie moments since they had no scenes together. That's so abnormal for them. That said, I had a very strong sense of foreshadowing. When Hen said, "I can't imagine what Athena is going through right now," and then Eddie says, "I can't imagine what Bobby's going through right now." Total speculation based on nothing but a feeling, but I think we are going to see Buck in serious danger at some point this season.
-The ending as it relates to landing the plane made me cry. I knew it was going to happen, but I still got emotional.
-Bobby takes charge of the scene and Chim wonders about it. Hen says, "I'm just going with it," was a great line from her too.
-Oh, and Bobby asking, "Where is Gerrard." Chim: "Buck put him in the hospital. Bobby: What?! Chim: "I could explain, but it's more fun not to."
-Finally, that ending with Gerrard. He's working with a few screws loose for sure. He should not be back at work, and yes, I laughed. He proved that he didn't turn over a new leaf by dressing down the others for stupid reasons. He gets to Buck who is bracing for the worse and planning to take whatever he deals out because of guilt when Gerrard hugs him and calls him son. The look on every single one of their faces was pure gold.

-I don't think they are going to try and redeem Gerrard, but I think he is going to try and "fix" Buck. I think this finally explains that golfing scene.
