Moira could only hurl on onto her knees as she was knocked once more by the angry angel that floated above her head in an intoxicating glow. The glow that made Moira's own once cold heart, thaw just a little warmer till once more, it was cold and lacked anything merciful. Her teeth were clenched within her jaw as she peered up at Angela, more known as that pitiful name Mercy; unoriginal Moira always said.
Soon Moira had surrounded herself in a sort of purplish glow, so much power, so much... Even with Moira being at a disadvantage only being able to be within steady ground, her growing power made that disadvantage practically not even a thing as she crashed Mercy down with a quiet cry. Mercy didn't give up easily however, the scientist could always admire that about her, she was resillant.
To an onlooker, this battle was more exhilariting than a high speed car chase. Whether it was well timed damage orbs or Mercy's wings flying her high into the air making her a hard target to catch, something about the two scientists was so in snych, so perfect. They knew each other so well, neither of them could relax for a second and could only prepare for their enemies next move as they stared each other down across the makeshift battlefield of cornstocks and a now newly damage barn.
Moira always knew this girl was special. From the moment she first laid eyes on the wannabe angel, Moira could tell she was different from any other foe she would have to face. It took a special talent to be able to last as long as Angela has and not just by strength alone, but her own tolerance and will to do right, Moira could admire it but also call it pathetic, could she not?
"We've been at this for hours," Moira hissed quietly through her pointed teeth, a slight bitterness slipping from her venomous tongue. Mercy's feet gently landing upon the ground before her pistol is pulled, aiming directly at the scientist who only looked back at Angela with a small smile, "you're still as strong as if you've had a nice nap and snack. You always were the more resillant of the two of us." A dark chuckle, almost evil like, dripped from her tongue once more as she looked down at the ground, refusing Angela's intense gaze, "I never could compete with you, even in the early days of your training."
"You're unethical Moira, its almost a kindness to describe it in such a term," Angela's glare only grew harder, the end of her pistol knocking against Moira's chin as she forced the scientist to look back at her. Moira knew what she was capable of, if she wanted to she could disappear right now or swap herself behind Angela, taking the upper hand. But she didn't, she wanted to see how long she could draw this out.
Moira looked back at the angel, a warm glow within Moira's eyes returned that Angela found familiar as Moira gave a small smile, almost a cunning one, "can you blame me, my angel? You always called me genius, even knowing my methods. My discoveries rival your own. Can you deny that?" Angela was silent. "I didn't think so, my angel."
"Do not refer to me in that way," Angela asked sternly, it wasn't common someone like Angela was to snap in such a way. For Moira yes, she was known for such reactions. But Angela? It was rare, "you lost the right to that long ago."
It was Moira's turn to snap back at the angel, brows furrowed as she pointed her pointy nailed finger at Angela, voice breaking slightly, "I'm not the one who broke us up Angel, that was all you! I'll bring up the past if I feel so." Moira chuckled, cold and dishearted, "look where we are angel, an old corn field!" Moira's eyes scanned the field, landing upon each and every little piece of distruction that the two scientists left in their battle, "whoever owns this field will have a surprise for certain."
Angela was silent.
Moira looked up at the angel, "so what's gonna happen now? After so much time and experiences we've shared together, you're just gonna kill me? Not even six months after you've ended things with me."
Angela stayed quiet. Moira knew the best ways to dig deep at Angela's heart and Moira knew that, using it to her advantage as her multicoloured eyes looked up at Mercy's own blue ones.
"You'll literally be the death of me, my angel," Moira purred quietly, "I was always joking all the times I had said that, you don't have to actually kill me angel. But if you wish, do it."
Mercy's finger twitched anxiously upon her trigger. If it was any other foe, Angela would have had no issue watching the life leave their eyes when she would pull her trigger. But something was different, Moira was different. Moira wasn't just some foe, she had history and a shared history with the angel.
"You can't do it," Moira laughed, a steady hand upon the ground as Moira pushed herself up off of the ground. Mercy's gun still aimed at the scientist but Moira didn't care, she knew Mercy didn't have the will to kill her.
Mercy watched Moira grow in her height, always being the taller of the two as Moira swung away on her heel, disappearing to her familiar orb form and out of Mercy's sight.
Mercy teeth clenched in her jaw, the clang of her pistol dropping to the floor echoed silently in her ear as Mercy stood alone in the bent cornfield. A criminal, that's all Moira can and ever will be. She can't change and she never will. Even as much as Angela wished she would, for her.
