jokes aside yes tk is a shithead who doesnt care about womens wrestling but the lack of intergender wrestling isn't actually his fault (at least not entirely). because of kayfabe, because pro wrestling is intended to be treated as reality even though everyone knows it's not, networks don't want to show men hitting women. it's higher up than him.
Me rambling on and on and on about my thoughts regarding major wrestling promotions' reluctance to have intergender wrestling under the cut because this bitch has some THOUGHTS and could not shut up about it, sorry!
Yeah, I mean, I ain't a network exec, I don't know what goes on there and it's entirely possible you're right and it's not in his hands. Buuuuuuut he has gone on the record before and said that he doesn't like intergender wrestling (probably because it usually has women in it) and he's done the whole comparing-it-to-domestic-violence thing, and I'm pretty sure some of the women in AEW have also said in interviews that TK's not a fan of intergender and that's why it's a no-go. So even if the network was fine with it, I doubt we'd see intergender in AEW.
And while I know it's entirely plausible that it's the execs' call, I've always had a bit of a hard time with the ''The network won't allow it!'' excuse because a lot folks used that to ''explain'' why there can't be more than one women's match on a show, because TNT won't allow it, when that's pretty obviously not the case - it's that way because TK wants it like that. Plus, I was an Attitude Era kid so I remember when I was watching wrestling growing up, it was super normal to see Chyna wrestling the men or see Lita and Trish intentionally get hit by male wrestlers and clearly the network wasn't a problem there - they let that happen for years and they made tons of money and didn't lose any sponsors or anything like that? Sure, that was a different time, but Impact today has intergender matches and they're still on TV so ??? I have a hard time believing that the network would draw a line at intergender. It's like, so, they're AOK fine with *takes a deep breath* deathmatches, barbed wire, thumbtacks, copious amounts of blood, occasional swearing, middle fingers galore, bodyshaming, sexism, homophobia, racism and Anti-Semitism *breathes out* but if a man were to bodyslam a woman, well, that's too far! We simply cannot allow! So it was OK for Dan Lambert to go out on TV every week and call women whores (Clearly, nobody, including the network or TK, told him to stop or that he couldn't do that!) but if two wrestlers wrestled a normal match but one of them was a woman, that's unacceptable? Don't make no sense to me.
But I think ultimately what it comes down to is that pro wrestling is run by men, they make all the decisions and men who oppose intergender wresting looooove to find whatever excuses they can to argue why it's baaaaaaad and we simply can't let it happen, when the real reason is, put simply, sexism. Whether it's ''women are too small and fragile!'' or ''the network won't allow it!'', at the end of the day, they're all just excuses to avoid having female wrestlers treated as equals to their male counterparts. Because that's what most men in charge of this business want. It sucks, but it do be like that though ๐๐๐
#Jesus I sure went on a tear there huh?#Sorry for bitching incessantly like that#You made a legit point there and I hope this didn't seem excessive or petty or annoying#I'm just a huge bitch and I can never resist a chance to rant about sexist shit in wrestling *shrugs*
