Hey!!
Im so amazed by your novel, it both traumatised and enlightened me, and I had some questions if you'd be so kind to answer :)
1. Was ABM the first novel you've ever written?
2. How long did it take to write and edit?
3. Your writing is so beautiful and I was wondering if the style was inspired by other books you've read? I felt like I could actually taste your words, they were amazing
P.s I was so excited when I saw yerba mate mentioned in the novel, that was such a nostalgic moment for me
Hello! Thank you so much for reading! That means a lot to me :) I'm sorry about the trauma, but I'm happy you enjoyed it.
No! It's my... 4th? book. It's the first book I officially formatted and indie published and got an agent for. But I've written a few books in the past. One of my WIPs is a revision of an old book actually.
I drafted it in 3-4 months? Very quickly! Editing is trickier to gauge because I edited it over and over from the original revisions, then querying, then self-publishing, then for traditional presses, then for a re-release. The original revisions took me about 2-3 months, I think.
I'm inspired a lot by the LatAm boom writers! I think Jose Donoso is probably the biggest, and Garcia Marques of course. I also try to learn from Bruno Schulz and Italo Calvino, and I took some guidance from Milton and William Blake for ABM for obvious reasons. I was a huge Oscar Wilde fan in the past, and I think that comes through in my work. I should mention Marguerite Duras, though I'm not comfortable recommending her — I just think she influenced my prose a lot.
