first date headcanons | nekoma

a/n these are just some ideas on how i personally think these characters would ask you out on a date + the actual date. not proofread

would spend days maybe even weeks planning before actually asking you out

he'd ask kenma for advice

he'd just be nonchalant about it a vague

but his laid back responses would help kuroo calm down about the whole situation

despite all his planning, when the moment's right, he'd just go for it

how it would play out:

it would start w his usual teasing

very playful to tease any tension at all

he'd joke about how you two seem to never hang out outside of school

then his tone would shfit to one more sincere

and he'd just go for it

there would be no pressure from him at all

he'd explain how it'd just be a chill, fun night out just the two of you

i think he'd choose a restaurant for a first date

one he knows you'd love

just some place you could relax and enjoy each others company

throughout dinner, the convo would flow so easily thanks to him

he'd be talking about anything and eveyrhting

but would also be quiet and listren attentively whenever you had anything to say

kenmas very introverted i think that parts obvious

so if he liked you he would take his time contemplating whether or not he should try to confess or even ask you out

he'd use that as a bridge

he'd start dropping subtle hints whenever the two fo you are casually playing a game

i feel like he'd opt towards doing it on text rather than in person

and since kenma isn't one for constant chatter, he wouldn't feel uneasy if the convo ever got quiet, infact he prefers the silence more than ever since it's w you

aone has a discerning eye when it comes to his surroundings. when he notices someone that goes out of their way to pick up trash or unpleasantries around that others may miss or ignore, he finds his heart warm. typically only he catches these eyesores, but he has a deep appreciation for any courteous soul who would also go out of their way. he wonders what other hidden delights hide in that person’s character.

oikawa

something about oikawa is drawn to strong opposition, likely because of his competitive nature. he loves when someone challenges him, and finds a lot of fun in playing games, having light-hearted debates and arguments, anything that invites someone to take him on. he sees it as a sign of confidence, and confidence is something he finds deeply attractive.

hinata

no stranger to self expression, hinata loves to find other like-minded individuals that are unapologetically themselves. especially people that don’t care who see them dancing in public if music is playing--there’s something so freeing and lovely to see someone deeply enjoying themselves and music; watching the whole ordeal could practically put him under a spell.

akaashi

having a non-stop train of thought can be an unfortunate burden for akaashi, so when he is around someone that loves to tell stories and wax poetic for hours at a time just so he can submerge his mind into someone else is soothing to him. not to mention, it gives him great opportunity to make mental notes about someone he may want to hold dear.

atsumu

he shared everything his whole life, which makes atsumu a little territorial of his things, meals, clothes, and whatever else. but something about someone that always offers to share no matter what it is really warms his heart--he’d been forced to share so much he finds it charming when someone is so willing to do that without provocation.

komori

komori can’t quite explain it. he’s really into sweaters--he loves when someone wears lots of sweaters and warm clothes, especially ones with corny patterns or graphics. as active as he is, his favorite way to unwind is a good cuddle on the couch, and it’s hard to resist nuzzling into a plush blanket or sweater.

hirugami

hirugami, despite his depth, has simple needs in a partner. he really loves people that love animals. hirugami does have a small preference for dogs above the rest, but any animal lover is more than capable of showing a side of vulnerability he really treasures. he’d also really like to play with their pets (if they don’t mind, of course.)

↘ Yaku puts a lot of work into his passion for volleyball – he even devotes a large part of his current life for it, so seeing you equally devoted to combat sport, he feels huge pride and joy. you got the female lead, belle.

"how is this even possible?!" you mentally screeched. at most, you expected to be a simple background character! like, y'know, one of the girls that fawn over gaston? even tree number four would've been alright!

"ah.. i really can't anymore." you grumble, massaging your temples with close eyes. "what are you talking about, y/n?" yaku morisuke, your kind and caring upperclassmen, asked.

"o- oh, yaku!" you stutter, not expecting to be checked up on. "i got the female lead when i was aiming for an insignificant character." you explained, followed by an irritated sigh. "..how am i supposed to balance my studies now?"

your eyes sparkled tearily, hands clasped in complete and utter gratitude at the boy's offer. "thank you, yaku!"

yaku's heart skipped a beat at your adorable expression. he flashed you a charming smile. "don't mention it!"

this is the first rehearsal nekoma will have in costumes. it's just so that the costume crew can know whether or not there's an issue while wearing said costumes on stage.

you were all pampered up in belle's famous yellow dress. your hair was styled (still, by special request, kept short), there was a light touch of makeup on your face, and the dress itself was unexpectedly comfortable to wear. now you don't want to say this out loud, but you actually looked.. quite ethereal right now.

"the costume and makeup crew really outdid themselves.." you twirled in front of the mirror.

once you exited the dressing room, all of your schoolmates' eyes were on you.

"uwaaah! y/n looks so pretty!"

"that's y/n?!"

"y/n, please be our manager—!"

"thank you." you said. yaku shook his head. "like i said, just come to me for help."

"oh! by the way," you brought two scripts into view, "i've been busy clearing out all of my homework, so i only got to memorize a few lines. do you mind helping?"

"no, not at all." yaku smiled at you, accepting your request.

oh, poor yaku. if only he knew how red his face would get at your words, would he have turned you down sooner.

"it's true that he's no prince charming, but there's something in him that i simply didn't see.." you read from the sheet of paper, all the while acting out a face of endearment. yaku had to pause for a moment, just to admire you.

Tears spilled over, tracing paths down her cheeks as she blinked in surprise. The room fell silent for a brief moment, the laughter dying down as her friends registered the change in her expression. Concern flickered across their faces as they exchanged worried glances.

“Y/N, are you okay?” Kuroo asked, his smile faltering as he stepped closer, his brows furrowing in genuine concern. He couldn’t bear the thought of having upset her; the last thing he wanted was to ruin this special moment.

“I—” she started, but the words caught in her throat. “I’m just really happy,” she finally managed to say, tears spilling over and tracing paths down her cheeks. “No one has ever gone to such extreme lengths for me before, other than my parents.” Her heart felt so full, the love from her friends wrapping around her like a warm embrace. This was a moment she had never expected, and it touched her deeply.

The boys paused, their expressions shifting from worry to relief as they slowly began to understand. “Oh, thank goodness! We thought you were upset!” Lev exclaimed, his voice laced with concern, his playful demeanor fading into seriousness.

“Yeah, we wouldn’t want to ruin your birthday,” Yaku added, his brow furrowing with concern. The idea of upsetting her was the last thing they wanted.

Y/N laughed through her tears, shaking her head as she took a moment to compose herself. “No, no! I’m just… so overwhelmed. This means so much to me.” She looked around at the decorations, the smiling faces, and felt a sense of belonging she hadn’t realized she was missing. “Thank you all for this,” she said, her voice steadying with each word.

As the atmosphere shifted back to one of celebration, Kuroo motioned for everyone to gather around her, determination lighting up his eyes. “Okay, let’s do this properly. Happy birthday, Y/N!” he began to sing, his voice lifting in the air, and soon the others joined in, their voices harmonizing in a way that felt both joyful and supportive. The sound enveloped her, each note wrapping around her heart like a gentle hug.

Y/N felt a mixture of joy and disbelief wash over her as they sang, her heart swelling with emotion. She made a wish, closing her eyes tightly as the candles flickered softly in the dim light, and then blew them out to the cheers of her friends, her heart brimming with happiness.

“Now, let’s eat this cake before it melts all over Lev!” Kuroo joked, breaking the moment with his usual charm, and laughter erupted again, the earlier tension forgotten as they surrounded Y/N with love and celebration.

As they sliced into the cake, the chatter resumed, filled with playful banter and shared stories from their time together. Y/N felt like she was glowing, the warmth of their affection wrapping around her like a cozy blanket. She watched her teammates joking and laughing, each of them adding to the joy that filled the gym.

“Hey, Y/N,” Kenma said quietly, his gaze softening as he offered her a piece of cake. “I’m glad we could do this for you.”

“Me too, Kenma,” she replied, her voice full of sincerity as she accepted the slice. “It means the world to me.”

As the laughter continued and the atmosphere pulsed with joy, Y/N felt an overwhelming surge of love and gratitude for her friends. Without thinking, she opened her arms wide, and the boys responded immediately, rushing in for a group hug that enveloped her completely.

“Group hug!” Kuroo cheered, and soon all of them were gathered around her, their laughter filling the air as they squeezed tightly, a tangible warmth of camaraderie and affection surrounding her.

“You guys are the best!” Y/N exclaimed, her heart swelling as she nestled into the embrace, feeling their support envelop her like a safe haven. It was a moment she would cherish forever, a celebration not just of her birthday, but of the incredible bonds they had forged together.

Quickly stretching his neck as he continued to be pulled by Kuroo as Kenma's fingers continued to work on his phone screen, pressing to defeat the boss to pass onto the next level.

As he continued to gently tap on his screen, as Kuroo kept talking with Yaku and pulled him to the lockers. Admitting, he'll open it within a few seconds, he busied his fingers again with the game on his phone.

Losing the first tie, as the loosing theme was played on the screen as Kenma glared at his phone, again starting it as he huffed and continued to angry tap on his screen to try an defeat the boss, right before s phone snatched out of his hand as Yaku sighed, Kuroo holding it above Kenma's reach,

"Ya! Hurry up, Kenma. We have practice." He told Kenma as Yaku patted Kenma's back, trying to get Kenma to soften his hard glare on Kuroo, telling him he'll get his phone within a second and ushered him to turn towards his locker.

Groaning, Kenma lazily fiddled with the lock to open the locker, and atop his messily put away uniform, stayed a perfectly tucked in....envelope.Very easily recognizable, a love letter. Kenma rolled his eyes, since his locker was right beside Kuroo's, he'd gotten one too many love letters by accidents which were meant for Kuroo.

So he picked it up, just slapping it in Kuroo's face who held it, grinning sheepishly as Kenma began changing into his practice uniform and jersey.. Jut as he pulled the res jersey down, Yaku held the letter back to him as Knema stared back at the two staring at him expectantly, "what?" he asked annoyed.

"It's not Kuroo's...It's for you." Yaku told him as Kenma, rolled his eyes, not believing the joke for a second as he looked at them with a face that definitely meant he did not believe them, "Seriously." Kuroo said, and that look on his face when he was being serious about something.

As Kenma gently plucked the letter form Yaku's hand and lookied at it, adorned with a pixelated kiss mark on top of it, which he thought was cute and a pixelated heart sticker and Kenma written with a cursive writing in golden, ochre yellow and black ink pens...a lot of effort was taken in to write this letter for him, huh? Kenma subtly smiled and Yaku noticed that, as he grinned at Kenma,

"Go away." Kenma suddenly looked up and told Yaku and Kuroo. As Kuroo demanded to stay, but Yaku thankfully pulled him away as Kuroo kept complaining. As Kenma looked down at it, opening the letter and pulling out the butterscotch smelling paper out, he liked it, it was one of his favourite flavour.

"Dear Kenma-san,

I write this letter in hopes of conveying my feelings for you. It might be overwhelming, so I apologize. I did not know what to say, but I agree that I adore you and your smile and your eyes and everything.

I see the efforts you put in to be with your friends when you want to, despite being an introvert. I see you play games on the bleachers right before volleyball practice. I wanted to say; I like you, a lot.

I understand if you don't, but I wanted to get it off my chest and so I thank you for holding my feelings for the time while,

He read, trying to control the smile reaching his cheeks, it was nice...Very nice, actually..He quickly ushered on his shirt perfectly, wore his sport shoes and ran to the volleyball court of the school, other members already there. Kuroo huffing in annoyance as Yaku winked to him subtly, smiling, before nodding to the bleachers...

As he looked up to see a cute person, waving down at him with a soft smile and a shy expression...He softly waved too, walking closer to the bleachers as she leaned down to hand a him a water-bottle.

You handed to everyone, actually. But as you bent down a bit to give it to him, his eyes fall on your ID card dangling down...

R.L: R/X L/X. Nekoma, 2nd year.

Besides the brooch of the school on the ID, like it had everyone's initials...Hm, he was too busy staring at your ID, that he didin't even get a word out as you were simply dragged away by your friend outside.Your friend was one of the players' cousins or something, Kenma wasn't sure, but she pulled you out with her, claiming she needed you for something, telling them they'll survive without a manager for a day or two more.

But who were you to give him such a cute letter, attend to his interests within a few seconds and a piece of paper and then leave him without anything else, suddenly catching his feelings within a few second??.. R.L....Hm, he'll find you later, won't he?

𝕀𝕨𝕒𝕚𝕫𝕦𝕞𝕚 ℍ𝕒𝕛𝕚𝕞𝕖

Iwaizumi, stood outside the gym with the Matsun and Makki, both clowning off and troubling Kunimi to teasing him or something as they all waited for Oikawa to be done with his fangirls.

Iwaizumi sighed and opened his own locker, as he peered in, in the middle of his uniform, books and others was a love letter, as he scoffed. 'Another one' he thought, pulling the letter out as Makki and Mattsun stared at it, with grins,

"OI!! SHITTYKAWA, ANOTHER LETTER FOR OUR BUGABOO~~" Makki said in a high-pitched and dramatic as Oikawa turned to them, smirking as he apologized to his fangirls and took his leave, taking the letter from Iwaizumi as usual Kunimi, Kindaichi, Mattsun and Makki peered it as Oikawa tore open the letter.

The letter decorated with turquoise and teal decorations to match the Aoba Johsai jerseys and colour, which the guys thought was pretty cute of the person to do so...Iwaizumi paid him no mind, continuing to remove his shoes to change them.

But as Oikawa unfolded the letter and began reading it, his smile, pride and smugness depleted, he became pouty as Makki and Mattsun cheered idiotically and loudly as Iwaizumi turned to them as Oikawa folded the letter and placed it neatly back in the simply decorated envelope, shoving it to Iwaizumi with a pouty expression,

"It's for you."

Iwaizumi stood there, frozen as he hands reached for the letters and almost snatched it as he read over the words quickly...Oh fuck...

Dear Iwa-chan,

May I call you that?? I apologize but I write this letter to explain my hidden feelings for you. What else is there to say except that I adore you more than anything. You're so smart and so confident in what you do. I hope to reveal my feelings to you if I could, sadly I'm a coward who can't explain my feelings...

This letter may not suffice, but I hope it can bridge the gap between us, if possible. I would like to be your friend and get to know you more, as we learn of our feelings...Though that may remain a dream, I desire for it to be the truth, but until then..I adore you,

In perfect handwriting in teal ink with slightly stain of it at the edge of the paper. Does not matter, how long has it been has his heart fluttered like this? How come HE had a secret admirer...Oh he needed to find out who was this person behind the letter.

As Makki and Mattsun whistled lowly and kept saying and confessing the words to each other, dramatically, while Oikawa scoffed and pouted. How sweet, as they began walking down the hallway of Aoba Johsai to head to the volleyball gym, just as a student, who was running, bumped shoulders with Iwaizumi..

You tripped, almost slipping as Iwaizumi caught your wrist, "Ac-Fu-sorry...sorry!!" you apologized, bowing a bit as you held back onto his wrist and the jacket sleeve, removing your hand as you smiled, running away as Iwaizumi smiled and waved, god you were cute.

As he looked down, he noticed tiny stains of teal on his sleeve, matching the love letter he received as he turned to catch your own cardigan you wore on top of your uniform slightly stained with teal ink at the sleeve...

Maybe he'll catch you later on this ink and this...adoration of yours, yeah?
