Kageyama sniffed the air twice, frowning. He was well-adjusted to the club room’s constant stench of sweat, seeing as he’s had three years to do so, making any foreign smell all that much stronger, especially pleasant ones. 

He turned to Tsukishima— who was currently standing directly where the light coffee scent was coming from— Yamaguchi’s scent— making him all the more confused, because Kageyama would assume that the smell of Yamaguchi’s perfume would be coming from Yamaguchi himself, not Tsukishima. 

Kageyama leaned a little closer to Tsukishima, sniffing the air one more time just to check, and— “Tsukishima,” he said, “why do you smell like Yamaguchi’s perfume?” 

Tsukishima immediately stiffened, hands going still where they were working on unbuttoning his uniform’s shirt— a shirt that smelled suspiciously similar to Yamaguchi’s— eyes widening slightly. He clicked his tongue, “Tch, how do you know what Yamaguchi’s perfume smells like? Huh?” 

Kageyama’s frown deepened. “Because I’ve been to his house before,” he explained. “Now answer my question.” 

Somehow, Tsukishima grew even more tense. Kageyama could tell he was deciding upon a particular answer by the way his mouth kept opening and closing, but nothing would ever come out. His silence didn’t help put the conversation to rest, though, as Yamaguchi— and even Hinata directed their attention his way. 

After ten long, painful seconds of Tsukishima’s cheeks getting redder and redder, shoulders tensing so much they nearly reached his ears, Yamaguchi spoke up. 

“It’s because we were making out earlier, Kageyama,” Yamaguchi replied simply, tone unwavering, making the statement just as he would the weather. 

Tsukishima reacted accordingly, flushing a deep red— and even Kageyama’s cheeks began to don that same warmth.

“Shut up, Yamaguchi,” Tsukishima muttered, voice cracking. 

Next to him, Yamaguchi began laughing, but being sure to get out the responding, “Sorry, Tsukki.”
