Redmi Note 7 Review
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 full review Following a Chinese launch in January the Redmi Note 7 officially went on sale in the UK on 7 May, charging straight into the top spot in both our UK and Chinese budget phone charts, knocking the Mi A2 Lite off its perch. It's the first phone from newly spun-off Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi, and as such it marks a huge departure from Redmi as you know it.
Headlining is a 48Mp dual-lens camera, and Redmi Note 7 was actually the first Xiaomi phone to pack such a high megapixel count - though Mi 9 then came along and did it better. There are some similarities between this budget phone and Xiaomi's flagship, but Redmi Note 7 is much more closely aligned in specs and performance with the Oppo F11 Pro, another Chinese phone that has not yet gone on sale in the UK (and may not ever do so).
It's also got a large 6.3in Full-HD+ screen and promises all day runtime from a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support. Plus some users will be very happy to see the inclusion of a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.
Xiaomi has kept down costs by specifying a mid-range Snapdragon 660 chip and 3- or 4GB of RAM, allowing this budget Android to be available from as little as £179. That's for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage model, while the 6GB RAM, 64GB storage model we review here costs £199. There's also a 128GB storage version at £249. You can choose from Space Black or Neptune Blue colour options.
Right now GearBest is offering an incredible deal on the entry-level 3GB/32GB option, where it costs just £113.54.
You can also buy Redmi Note 7 direct from Xiaomi, or from retailers such as Amazon. It will also be available on a contract basis from Vodafone.
The Redmi Note 7 is available in Europe from 179€, but if you're looking to buy in the US you'll need to import it from a site such as GearBest or Geekbuying. The latter is currently stocking the global version of the top-end Redmi Note 7 at the discounted price of £170.01/$209.99/185.57€. Do remember to take into account potential import duty fees, which is calculated at 20 percent of the value on the shipping paperwork.

Redmi Note 7 Design & Build Redmi Note 7 is not all that dissimilar in design to the flagship Mi 9, which packs a fractionally larger (6.39in) screen into an ever so slightly smaller chassis. Both have tall 19.5:9 panels and slim bezels - naturally slimmer on the Mi 9, but the only place this is really obvious to the untrained eye is on its smaller chin.
Each also feature a Dot Drop (waterdrop-style) notch to maximise the available screen space and house the selfie camera, which is more obvious on Mi 9 with its larger 20Mp sensor (Redmi Note 7 has a 13Mp front camera). There's also a blink-and-you'll-miss-it slit at the extreme edge between the screen and frame for the earpiece.
Around the back you'll find some more obvious differences, however, with a dual- rather than triple lens camera on the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi rather than Mi logo, and a physical fingerprint sensor. All members of the flagship Mi 9 family now use an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Arguably physical fingerprint sensors typically work better than these early in-display versions, and though it might be a fancy new feature to have the omission is not a game-changer.
Redmi Note 7 review
We tested the Black version so were unable to enjoy the gradient finish of the Blue model, but in pictures it looks gorgeous. With a glass back and front the Redmi Note 7 has a very premium design for a phone at this price point, and is only fractionally thicker than Xiaomi's flagship family at 8.1mm, though you will notice that glossy frame is plastic rather than metal. That extra space inside the case enables it to include a capacious 4,000mAh battery, too, matching the spec of the recently announced Mi 9T.
Something you won't find on Mi 9 phones (save for the Mi 9T) is the Redmi Note 7's 3.5mm headphone jack, which sits on the top edge of the phone alongside another increasingly rare feature: an IR blaster. While phone makers are rapidly making the switch over to USB-C audio, there are still plenty of users who want to use their existing earphones without an adaptor. Redmi Note 7 also has a bottom-firing mono speaker for audio.
At 6.3in the display is expansive, and ideal for watching high-resolution video and playing games. This is not the same AMOLED technology on Mi 9, but it's still good for the money, and actually nearly as bright - we recorded 398 nits using a Spyder. With a 2340x1080 Full-HD+ resolution everything is super-clear, too.
Although the Redmi Note 7 runs MIUI 10, on our review sample the system-wide Dark Mode setting found in the flagships is not available. It's possible this will come in the next update, with the Redmi running 10.3.2.0 and our Mi 9 running 10.3.3.0. This is useful not only because it seems to be the latest trend to do everything in Dark Mode, but because it drastically reduces the screen's impact on battery life.
The Redmi Note 7 also lacks the Ambient Display (always-on) mode found in Xiaomi flagships, which can additionally help you maintain battery life by reducing the frequency with which you feel you need to wake the phone to check the time or notifications. That could be an issue here, since Redmi Note 7 has the most ridiculous notification LED we've ever seen - it flashes up below the screen but is the tiniest little dot you could easily miss it completely.
Redmi Note 7 review
None of Xiaomi's current smartphone line-up is waterproof, though we wouldn't necessarily expect to find this feature at this price anyhow. Xiaomi also keeps down costs by excluding wireless charging from this phone, though it does support Quick Charge 4 and is supplied with a 10W USB-C charger in the box.
As with all Xiaomi phones you'll also find a silicon case is supplied, a nice touch given that these are not easily obtainable in UK High Street stores. The Note 7 does feature Gorilla Glass 5 to help protect it from scratches, but it is not infallible.
Redmi Note 7 Core Hardware & Performance The Note 7 is fitted with a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 14nm chip, which integrates an 850MHz Adreno 512 GPU. This is a step down from the also mid-range Snapdragon 712 and 730 found in the Mi 9 SE and 9T, but there's not a huge difference in performance - at least not anything the average user would be able to perceive - as you'll see in the comparison chart below.
You'll have seen this chip before, in the likes of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi Mi A2, Nokia 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy A9, Elephone U Pro and so forth. It's quite a popular processor. And while Redmi Note 7 is not significantly faster than any of those other phones that use it, something you should note is that it is significantly cheaper.
The Redmi Note 7 offers capable - if not flagship - daily performance, and provided you don't turn up the detail too much some very playable framerates. In GFXBench's T-Rex and Manhattan tests we recorded 46- and 21fps, for example.
The 4000mAh battery inside is good for a day's use, but no more. In Geekbench 4's battery test we recorded 7 hours 16 minutes, which is actually a pretty middling score and a little lower than we had anticipated given the huge capacity of the battery.
As we mentioned earlier on in this review you get a choice of 3- or 4GB of RAM. We tested the latter, and this is the version we recommend for the best performance, especially when it costs only an extra £20.
Redmi Note 7 review
A major advantage of Redmi over Mi is its support for storage expansion, so there's no reason why you shouldn't opt for the lower-capacity version and bolt on extra storage later, if and when you need it. Redmi Note 7 can accept microSD cards up to 256GB via a hybrid SIM tray - you must choose between dual-SIM functionality and storage expansion. If you do opt for a second SIM instead, know that either SIM slot can be used for 4G data, but unlike with the Mi 9 family you can't use 4G on both at once.
In terms of connectivity there's also dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and an IR blaster. You will not find NFC for making mobile payments, so if this is important to you step up to the Mi line.
Redmi Note 7 Cameras & Photography For a budget phone the Redmi Note 7's cameras are pretty good, though not quite as good as the marketing might have you believe.
The star of the show is a 48Mp lens that by default actually takes 12Mp shots. This is because it combines four pixels into one, averaging out the quality, exposure, colours and so on to create one significantly better-looking super pixel.
This is paired with a 5Mp secondary lens for blurred background (bokeh) shots, and together the Note 7 is capable of some decent - if a little dull - photography, given good lighting. Zoom right in and some noise is visible, but zoomed out the results are more than acceptable for a sub-£200 phone.
In low lighting the camera has more work to do, and even in Night mode it still struggles. Here you need to be really careful to keep the camera still for what feels like forever as it processes the shot. Though it did a good job of picking out different colours, including the different shades of black, text can be a little fuzzy and edges less well defined. Not a bad result, but equally not the best.
This is an AI camera, which means Xiaomi's software can intelligently set an appropriate preset for the shooting scenario. The app is very easy to use, and you can quickly switch between photo and video, Portrait, Night, Square, Panorama and Pro modes, and there's a shortcut for preinstalled Google Lens right within the app, too.
There's also an option to shoot in 48Mp, though all this is going to really do for you is gobble through your storage, since the results are not any better for the extra pixels.
The Redmi Note 7 supports 1080p video capture at 30- or 60fps with image stabilisation, but 4K and slow-mo video is off limits.
Around the front is a 13Mp AI camera for selfies, and in this mode the app offers quick access to various beauty settings.

Redmi Note 7 Software The Redmi Note 7 runs MIUI 10, which is a custom version of Android 9 Pie. Since we're using a Global ROM model it comes preinstalled with Google services and an English-language keyboard and interface, so setup is as simple as on any Android phone.
You will find Xiaomi offers its own version of most Google apps, which does mean there's some duplication here, and most cannot be deleted (or removed from the app tray-less home screen, though you can tuck them away in a folder where they will remain out of sight and out of mind). This is for good reason, since Chinese ROM MIUI devices don't have those Google apps. Some of these apps are pretty decent, however, so either use them, or don't - there's enough storage that you don't really need to worry about them.
Redmi Note 7 review
We noted earlier that the Redmi Note 7 currently lacks the Dark Mode and Ambient Display found on the Mi 9 family. The software is pretty much the same in other respects, and there are some great extras only found on Xiaomi phones such as Dual Apps and Second Space.
A Split-screen mode is also found in the recents menu, with is accessible either from the onscreen button or by swiping from the bottom of the screen and then pausing before lifting your finger in the gesture-only Full Display mode.
While the notification LED is so pathetic that you're likely to miss it completely, you do get individual app control over which are allowed to display notifications on the lock screen or float at the top of the screen, which means only the most important will be allowed to distract you. Finding your way around the settings may not be immediately obvious, however.
Redmi Note 7 Conclusion Redmi Note 7 is a very decent mid-range phone with a budget price. In the UK budget smartphone market none of its similarly priced rivals (think Mi A2 Lite, Honor 10 Lite, Moto G7 Power) even come close.
In design it's not all that far removed from Xiaomi's flagship, with a similarly large and almost as bright display, but it's not of quite the same quality. In performance most users would not be able to separate Redmi Note 7 and Mi 9 SE, and it's as capable as many phones costing £350.
Compared to the flagship line it adds microSD support and a headphone jack, but loses the wireless charging, in-display fingerprint sensor and NFC for mobile payments. The triple-lens camera is here reduced to a dual-lens model, but still has a huge 48Mp lens headlining.
On paper the capacious 4,000mAh battery looks amazing; in reality you should get a full day's use from it.

We have already seen this story countless times: a long-awaited smartphone is about to be released, the first tests complain that a single aspect of the device does not convince and discontent grows. We could call it “the cycle of hype,” and that’s exactly what happened with Xiaomi A3, the long-awaited low-cost smartphone from the Chinese company, sold at a price of around 230 dollars on the Banggood website.
Xiaomi Mi A3 is the Chinese company’s new Android One smartphone, so no MIUI and a more familiar Android interface. We saw it briefly in our preview a few days ago, between light and shadow, and a technical sheet that leaves room for some doubt. On all heads, the resolution of the display is only an HD + and the absence of the NFC chip for contactless payments, two compromises that are difficult to digest, at first sight, especially considering the list price set at 229 dollars.
In the last two years, the series has made its way into the segment, the Mi A1/Mi 5X and A2 Lite were the real best buy, and the Mi A3 carries on its shoulders the enormous weight of the predecessors’ success. This new model, therefore, has the daunting task of continuing the positive streak and keeping the Mi A Android One family name high. Will it succeed in the enterprise?
Xiaomi Mi A3 Package
The packaging of this Mi A3 does not offer great surprises; the sales package of the Mi A3 appears with a sober white cardboard featuring the name of the product and the Android One logo on the profiles while the front part shows the device in the 3 sales colors (pearl white, electric blue, and dark gray). Inside the package, we find the following equipment:
1 x Xiaomi Mi A3;
1 x Pin for removing the SIM tray;
1 x Silicone cover;
1 x Product warranty instructions and user guide;
1 x USB Type-C data charging/transfer cable;
1 x 5V-2A output wall charger (10W).
Before proceeding with the review, we report the SAR values of the product, as many are interested in the subject:
SAR limit 10g: 2 W / Kg SAR value head: 0.301 W / Kg SAR value body: 1.097 W / Kg (distance of 5 mm) SAR limit 1g: 1.6 W / Kg SAR value head: 1.03 W / Kg Body SAR value: 0.99 W / Kg (10 mm distance) Hotspot: 1.07 W / Kg (10 mm distance)
Xiaomi Mi A3 Construction and Ergonomics
The Mi A3 is a smartphone on the whole compact and continues on the road of devices that are not too large, powered by the Android One line.
The grip is also good, and the back cover is never too slippery. We must indeed praise Xiaomi in terms of build quality: the device is quite robust, the Chinese house used rather classic materials with Gorilla Glass 5 for the front and the back, while the side frame is made of plastic. Everything is enclosed in a body that is not too large, values that are within the average, and allow rather easy use with one hand, which I appreciated so much. Even the ergonomics benefit from these materials because the back, although it is prone to keep the fingerprints, is not very slippery and offers a good grip.
In hand, it is used easily; it is not too thick (8.47 mm), nor too heavy (about 173.8 grams). It is not waterproof, but it is however, optimally constructed, with the glass back and the polished plastic chassis, in the same color as the back. The design is very simple and pleasant, but not particularly original (you could confuse it with many other Xiaomi and Huawei already on the market).
Xiaomi Mi A3 has a size of 153.48 x 71.85 x 8.47 mm, for a weight of about 173.8 grams. The ergonomics are excellent, and the device can be used safely, even with one hand.
Only HD + Display That Behaves, But It’s Not In Shape
Let’s start with the component that, on paper, would seem the weakest: the display. The panel used is a 6.08-inch AMOLED with HD + resolution (1560 x 720p), a feature that does not find any marketing logic, also considering the PENTAI type matrix, lowering the effective final resolution by a further 1/3. Given the wide diagonal, the density is only 283 ppi, therefore much lower than what we are used to: with the naked eye, we can distinguish the pixels, and the vision of the elements is not defined, in particular, the texts.
The display is not the best, but in reality, the display is not so bad, indeed. The colors are good, the panel has high maximum brightness and can be seen really well even outdoors in direct sunlight. Certainly, a Full HD screen would have been more welcome; thus forgetting for a moment the cold numbers is not so penalizing. On the upper part where there is obviously a notch with a teardrop shape that contains the front 32MP camera is quite pronounced than the lower frame, which ruins the front aesthetic a bit.
However, you will be glad to know that the drop notch does not create any nuisance for notifications; they are always visible.
From the Mi A1, the fingerprint reader has always been capacitive and positioned on the back, on the Mi A3 it moves instead to the front and positioned below the display, thanks to the adoption of AMOLED technology. Right from the start, it proved to be quick and effective in unlocking without the need to press too much on the glass.
As the Mi A3 display has AMOLED technology, the viewing angles and responsiveness of the touch screen (10 points) are excellent. In a positive sense, it should also be noted that the frames do not cut portions of the display, such as on POCOPHONE F1.
In addition, there is also the unlocking with the face through 2D recognition of the front camera. This function is not yet present in the Android stock code, and this shows how the Android One system is different from Android stock.
Large Battery In Xiaomi Mi A3
Despite the low weight, Xiaomi has managed to integrate a 4030 mAh battery, certainly not obvious in the midrange scene. This large capacity combined with the AMOLED HD + display and the controlled consumption of the SoC makes the Mi A3 a champion in terms of battery life. It is really difficult to worry under this front and certainly more lasting than all its predecessors. One feels a little lack of certain MIUI software optimizations, but with this model, it is credible to think of spending a day and a half or two without ever recharging it.
Full charging of the Mi A3 takes about 2 hours with the supplied 10W charger, but the smartphone supports 18W fast charging.
Wireless Charging?
If you are wondering, I will answer immediately: NO, Xiaomi Mi A3 is not equipped with wireless charging, but never mind because the battery it comes with is a 4030 mAh unit.
Xiaomi Mi A3 Snapdragon 665 And UFS Memories 2.1
The SoC used in the Mi A3 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, the successor of two excellent chips discussed and reviewed countless times: we are talking about the SD636 and SD660. If we look at the CPU alone it seems that little has changed, we always talk about Kryo 260 Gold, but with a production process that has gone from the 14 nm of the previous generation to the current 11 nm, this means a good performance boost without using too much battery consumption.
Mi A3 Performance & Benchmark
To accompany the new SoC, there are also 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. These last memories are from the UFS 2.1 and offer much higher performance than the EMMCs in the Mi A2. A faster internal memory allows access to data and, consequently, to applications. The only sore point I found on the GPU: the Adreno 610 is not so good, and in graphically demanding games like Asphalt 9, I noticed a bit of lag with the details set to the highest quality available. However, PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile played incredibly well without issues.
As already mentioned in the previous chapter, Mi A3 offers excellent performance and makes the software run flawlessly, even when using “heavy” apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Of course, all of us would have preferred that Xiaomi used the Snapdragon 710 processor (Xiaomi Mi CC9) rather than the Snapdragon 665 (Xiaomi Mi CC9e / Mi A3). However, we are still above the average and have not encountered any problems from this point of view.
For benchmark lovers, the device registered a total of 167004 points on AnTuTu. On Geekbench, on the other hand, it reached 315 points in single-core and 1419 points in multi-core while it scored 6692 in PCMark’s Work 2.0 Performance. To give you a concrete example, Samsung Galaxy A50, a smartphone that is sold at a price similar to Mi A3, had registered a total of 136009 points on AnTuTu. In short, the performance gap is not so high, but Xiaomi Mi A3 falls the same among the most performing smartphones in this price range.
Despite this, the 3.5 mm audio jack, the infrared port, is always present, and you can even expand the memory with a micro-sd. Through the side tray, you can still use two SIM cards at the same time and take advantage of the 4G Plus connectivity. Nothing to complain about on the reception front, in these days of use, it was always pleasant, and I never encountered problems on call.
Xiaomi Mi A3 Solid Android Stock 9 Pie
On the software front, objectively, there is not much to say. This is always the usual Xiaomi customization of Android One. We have already seen how the company intervened in some places to add some extra features. However, apart from unlocking it with the face and proprietary photo software, you still have a very stock usage experience similar to that available to many other Android One devices. Android One is virtually free of any additional features typical of custom UI, such as MIUI. But certainly those looking for such devices do so with a view to reliability and long-term longevity. At the moment, the device mounts the Android OS 9 Pie with security patches updated for October 5, 2019, and soon we could also see the upgrade to the new Android 10.
From some points of view, it is an asset. I have always been a great lover of minimalism typical of pure Android and believe that it is the most faithful experience and close to those that are Android’s capabilities. But on the other hand, we note some shortcomings that, on other customizations, are essential.
Triple Room, But The Gcam Makes The Difference
The photographic compartment of a smartphone is one of those features on which to focus during the purchase phase, and the new Xiaomi Mi A3 says it’s in the mid-range segment. As from “fashion” of the moment, we find a triple camera on the back that consists of a 48-megapixel Sony IMX582 sensor, f / 1.79 as the main module which is joined by an ultra-wide 8 megapixel module, Samsung S5KGD1 f / 2.2, FOV 118 ° and a sensor dedicated to the 2 megapixel depth, f / 2.4.
The shots captured by these lenses are detailed and have well-calibrated colors. Also noteworthy are the shots were taken with the Portrait mode, able to very well outline the subject in the foreground even if, in this case too often, the background will be “burned.” The 48 megapixels are exploited with manual mode while basic shooting in 12-megapixel resolution with the aid of Pixel Binning technology. At the software level, there are also gems like AI support for scene recognition, HDR (also automatic), and Night mode to better capture night shots, quite effective.
But Android One also offers the already active CAM2API, so you will only need to install a simple APK to enjoy the magic of GCam, albeit with some compromises. There are many working versions, but on some, the Wide lens does not work, on others the front camera, but in any case, you will have an alternative solution to the stock camera, which in some situations gives you decidedly professional shots.
Xiaomi’s photo software shows how his algorithm works well in different light conditions. In the daytime, the colors are brilliant, and the various parts of the photo are correctly exposed. The green shades are slightly too saturated, but they are still solvable problems with a little editing. The wide-angle instead didn’t convince me so much because of the low resolution.
At the selfie room level, we find a 32-megapixel sensor, f / 2.0 FOV 79 °, which also has functions like HDR and AI. Although there are so many megapixels in dowry, the yield is almost the same as that of other devices of the brand, that is, more than discreet in days but not very exciting in low light conditions. In particular, despite the disabled beauty effects, the software always tends to insert a sort of “halo” on the skin.
At the video level, we can record up to 4K resolution at 30 fps, while for 1080p, we can decide between 30 and 60 fps and H.264 or H.265 video encoding. There is no lack of features like Time Lapse and Slow Motion. Theoretically, electronic stabilization is available (only 1080/720 p 30 fps), but I did not find great benefits from it. Furthermore, in the fast pan phase, it is possible to see some deformations of the images, probably due to the software and therefore with a possible solution with future updates. In short, a good photographic industry voted better for the acquisition of photos rather than videos.
AAA Wanted NFC
I don’t find adequate justification for the absence of the NFC chip, which has now become more than important for the management of contactless payments. The only plausible explanation is the little use made of it in China and some other countries, where most transactions take place via third-party platforms like WeChat. In any case, the limit is there for us and it is obvious, certainly not pleasant, if we consider that the Mi A3 goes global.
Moreover, we must deal with increasingly well-equipped competition, a more demanding user, a growing smartphone offer. The mere fame of a successful series is not enough, especially if a brand has a portfolio of many other similar solutions that certainly appear more complete in terms of hardware.
Final Considerations
In my opinion, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is not an heir to the Mi A2 and does not even try to be one. It is more the successor of the Mi A2 Lite and is presented in a complicated price range, putting itself before the excellent Redmi Note 7 ( review ). None of the models just mentioned has the NFC, but it was from the time of the Mi A1 that they did not go under Full HD resolution, in this case, sacrificed to integrate an OLED and also allow unlocking on screen. A courageous choice, in my opinion, also dangerous.
Xiaomi, like others, makes war on its own with lots of devices at often similar prices. Certainly, the Mi A3 has from its experience the Android Stock; still much sought after by many users and added value for those who do not like MIUI customization. It will be interesting to see its positioning with the first online offers and, above all, to intercept an eventual Mi A3 Pro that can actually raise the shot and cover the most important gaps.
Unfortunately, the company has put this Mi A3 on the market at an illogical price, especially when compared to models of the same parent company. On the other hand, Redmi Note 7 costs less and offers a Full HD display or the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE (with a slightly higher cost) in addition to the higher resolution also offers the NFC. Fortunately, Banggood offers the Mi A3s at much more fair prices.

now that Android Pie is live, the first thing that comes to our mind is when my Android device will receive the new update. The exciting new features of Android Pie and the whole gesture navigation thing is not something anyone would want to miss. However, given the track record of smartphone manufacturers, Android latest versions have never been delivered right away. Don’t you remember how much time Android Oreo took to arrive on your device? Still, Android Oreo has not been able to take over Android Nougat regarding market share.
It’s entirely imaginable that while your device would get Android P, Google may have already released Android Q beta version. Android Q…Hmm! I wonder what Android Q will be called.
Anyway, the good news is Google is aware of the current situation. Hence, the Android One and Google Beta program.
But there is only so much Google can do. Honestly, phone makers couldn’t care less about which Android version you have. If your device shared a fair amount of limelight, welcome to Android update, or else, you know where to buy a new device.
That’s out of the way, let’s move on with our list of Android devices getting Android P. Remember, few of these are just educated guess so don’t take our word for it. However, we will be continuously updating this article as soon as we see any official announcements.
Complete list of smartphones receiving Android Pie
1. Google
Of course! Google’s own line of devices will be the first one to receive the latest Android version. In fact, as I speak, Google has already started rolling out Android Pie OTA (Over-the-air) updates to its devices —
Google Pixel and Pixel XL
Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
It is doubtful that Android Pie will come on Nexus devices (Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X), considering the lost “update support” from Google itself.
On the other hand, all the Android One-powered devices will receive Android Pie later this fall –
Nokia Android devices
Xiaomi Mi A1, Mi A2, and Mi A2 Lite
HTC U11 Life
Motorola X4, Android One, and Android Power
LG G7
General Mobile (GM8, GM6, GM5, GM5+)
Ymobile (S1, S2, X1)
Thanks to the Google Beta Program, many non-pixel devices got the opportunity to try out Android P beta version. So it is evident that the same beta program devices would also receive the final Android Pie version, perhaps way sooner than any device.
Essential PH-1
Vivo X21 and X21 UD
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Sony Experia XZ2
Nokia 7 Plus
Oppo R15 Pro
OnePlus 6
2. Nokia
Nokia has exponentially upped their game with the new line of Android devices. All of these devices work on Android One, Google’s parallel project which provides true stock experience on non-pixel devices.
Back in May, HMD global Marketing Manager, Niel Broadley, confirmed that Android P would be coming to the entire Nokia portfolio.
And a few days back, Google also announced that all Android One devices would get Android P later in 2018.
List of Nokia devices receiving Android Pie –
Nokia 8 Sirocco, and Nokia 8
Nokia 7 Plus
Nokia 6.1, and Nokia 6
Nokia 5.1, and Nokia 5
Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 3
Nokia 2.1, and Nokia 2
Nokia 1
3. Essential Phone
Essential has already rolled out Android P OTA update for Essential device Phone.
Now, this is some revolutionary stuff. Seemingly, Essential is the first device manufacturer who has shipped Android latest version after Google Pixel.
Before this, Essential was part of Google beta program already having scope for an early stable release. But same day as Pixel! A total bolt from the blue.
4. OnePlus
OnePlus, the Chinese smartphone-maker has already become one of the most popular Android brands. The high performing devices with reasonable price have charmed all the Android users around the world.
It would be a shame if OnePlus doesn’t roll out Android Pie on its devices. But rolling out on all devices, well I did not see that one coming. Only a few days back, OnePlus officially announced Android Pie will come on all of its devices, skipping the delayed Android Oreo (8.1) update altogether.
One Plus 6
One Plus 5T and One Plus 5
One Plus 3T and 3
As of now, OnePlus has rolled out Android Pie based Oxygen OS beta 1 for its OnePlus 6 device. And the final Android Pie version is tentatively coming somewhere in December.
5. Xiaomi
One of the biggest players in budget smartphones, Xiaomi, utilizes Android Oreo-based MIUI for its devices. In 2017, Xiaomi brought first Android phone Xiaomi Mi A1 as part of Google Android One initiative.
And only recently, we saw Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, both, carrying Android Oreo (as part of the Android One program). Xiaomi says all its Android devices will soon receive Android Pie. On the other hand, there is no official date on a new MIUI update.
Let’s look at the list of Xiaomi devices eligible for Android P (MIUI) update –
Xiaomi Mi mix, Mi Mix 2 and Mi Mix 2S
Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 5
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer, Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Note 5
Xiaomi Mi 6
List of Xiaomi devices receiving Android Pie –
Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite
Xiaomi Mi A1
As for Xiaomi Android devices, we can expect the update at the onset of Q4 2018.
6. Huawei
Huawei is another Chinese smartphone maker whose massive sales have already unseated Apple to become the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer. Honor, a Huawei sub-brand, works on Android-based EMUI operating system.
The company has been active in updating their devices to the latest Android versions, and likely they will follow the same speed with Andoird Pie. Presently, Huawei has rolled out its Android Pie based EMUI 9 beta version for selected devices –

Huawei Nova 3i
Honor 9 and 10
Huawei P20, P20 Pro, and P20 Lite
Huawei Mate 20
Considering Huawei previous track records, the company would more likely to release Android Pie update in December.
7. Sony
Sony has done spectacularly in cameras, TV, consoles but the when it comes to the smartphone industry, the company is trying its best to stay in the competition. For instance, Sony XZ2 in the beta program which was a much-needed revival for the company.
As of now, Sony has promised users to update their Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z2 lineups to Android P starting in starting from November
List of Sony devices getting for Android Pie –
Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium
Sony Xperia XZ2, and Xperia XZ2 compact
Sony Xperia XZ1, and Xperia Z1 compact
Sony Xperia XZ Premium
Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra (early 2019)
Sony Xperia XA2 Plus (early 2019)
8. Samsung
If we’d have to rank device makers on the amount of time taken to release Android version; Samsung would probably stand at the end. Regardless, smiling, being the top manufacturers of the world
As expected, there is no comment on Android Pie. However, based on bits and pieces of information over the Internet, we can make a preliminary estimate on which Samsung devices would get to see the Google light.
List of Samsung devices eligible for Android P –
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018)
Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018)
Samsung Galaxy A6+ (2018)
Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018)
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3
Samsung flagships like Note 9 and S9 series will first get Android Pie updates probably in Q2 2019.
9. LG
Korean electronic is gaining new heights, but its mobile division is continuously dropping with low sales every year. Although many LG devices are eligible for Android Pie, their hopeless phone market may prompt a much-delayed update rollout.
List of LG devices eligible for Android Pie –
LG V35 ThinQ
LG Q Stylus
LG V30S Thin Q
LG G7 Thin Q
LG Q7
LG V30+
9. HTC
HTC is steadily losing out in the smartphone market. In fact, many HTC smartphones even get lost in the back-to-back devices from Chinese companies, which is why the company is now trying to hold off its loyal consumers with Android Pie update.
HTC has announced that its HTC U lineup will be receiving Android Pie update. However, no timelines have been mentioned just yet.
List of HTC device receiving Android Pie –
HTC U12+
HTC U11
HTC U11+
HTC U11 Life
Since HTC U11 Life is an Android One device, it will likely to receive Android Pie update first.
Other device manufacturers that may focus on delivering Android Pie:
Blackberry
Blackberry recently launched their Android phone – Blackberry Key 2. So you would see Android P on the device, but I cannot say the same for Blackberry Key 1.
Vivo
Vivo has confirmed that it will release Android Pie its devices in Q 4 2018. Vivo X21 and X21 UD was part of Google beta program, so it is apparent that they will receive it first. Other Vivo devices which are eligible for Android Pie: Vivo Nex A, Nex S and Vivo V9.
Oppo
As of now, speculation is Oppo Find X, Oppo R15, and Oppo R15 Pro will receive the Android P. Since Oppo R15 was part of the beta program, it is likely to get the update first.
Motorola
Lenovo owned Motorola has always kept a consumer-centric model for their smartphones. Hence, we see Moto phones focus on affordable prices, fast applications, and a genuine android experience. And certainly, the company won’t hold back when it comes to new Android updates.
In the past, Motorola stated that they are working non-stop to optimize Android Pie for Moto devices.
Now, the company has officially announced a list of devices that will get Android Pie –
moto z3
moto z3 play
moto z2 force edition
moto z2 play
moto x4
moto g6 plus
moto g6
moto g6 play
As for the Android Pie roadmap, Motorola says they will start serving up Android Pie from this fall onwards.
Android Go devices
Android Go is primarily a stripped down version of Stock Android, targeted at lower end device (512 RAM and above) so that low budget phones not left out from the pure Google Pixel like experience.
Only recently, Google announced that it will release Android 9 Pie on more than 200 Android Go devices. Additionally, Android Go Google apps will get a major overhaul in the coming update.
Few of these apps are Google Go, YouTube Go, Maps Go, Files Go, Assistant Go, Android Messages.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A1 vs Nokia 6 vs Honor 9 Lite: Price in India, Specifications, Features Comparison
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro will go on sale in India on Thursday, February 22 alongside the Redmi Note 5 and Mi TV 4. With the new Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi is aiming for the sub-Rs. 20,000 segment, offering features such as a large, bezel-less display and dual rear camera setup on the back, along with a big battery. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro price in India starts at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant, it will be the 6GB RAM model that may be a more enticing option for the Indian consumer as there are not many smartphones with as much RAM under Rs. 18,000 in the market at present. Nonetheless, both variant will find enough space in the affordable segment to make their mark.
We can safely say Xiaomi has launched what looks like a solid package on paper to take on other contenders under the same price bracket, including the Honor 9 Lite 4GB RAM variant. The base variant of the new Redmi Note handset has also apparently influenced other smartphone companies to bring new 4GB RAM models to survive in the market. HMD Global is the first such company, launching the Nokia 6 4GB RAM, 64GB storage variant in the Indian market to compete against the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Moreover, it is interesting to see that the new Xiaomi phone is making the competition tougher for the Mi A1, which is an existing hot-selling model by the Chinese brand, launched last year in collaboration with Google as a new Android One handset.
We take a look at the Redmi Note 5 Pro price in India, specifications, and features and compare them with those of the Mi A1, Nokia 6, Honor 9 Lite to help you decide the best option for you.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi A1 vs Nokia 6 vs Honor 9 Lite 4GB RAM price in India
The Redmi Note 5 Pro price in India is set at Rs. 13,999 for the variant with 4GB RAM and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB RAM option. Both variants will go on sale beginning February 22 via Flipkart, Mi Home, and Mi.com. After some time, they will also be available for purchase through Xiaomi’s offline retail partners in the country. The smartphone comes with an ultra-slim case bundled, while Jio is giving a cashback worth Rs. 2,200 and 100 percent additional data. Further, colour options for the Redmi Note 5 Pro include Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold colours.
Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro Launched in India, Price Starts at Rs. 9,999
Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 back in September last year with a price tag of Rs. 14,999, though it received a price cut and is currently available at Rs. 13,999. This Android One smartphone is available for purchase through various online and offline channels in the country, including Flipkart, Mi.com, Sangeetha, Poorvika, Big C, LOT, and UniverCell among others. It comes in various colour options, including Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and the Special Edition Red.
Xiaomi Mi A1 Review
The Nokia 6, packing 3GB RAM, arrived in India in June last year with a price tag of Rs. 14,999. But its 4GB variant, which HMD Global has just launched in the country, comes at Rs. 16,999 – the same as that of the Redmi Note 5 6GB RAM variant’s price in India. The new Nokia 6 model will be exclusively available for purchase via Flipkart starting February 20. The company is not offering any goodies on the new launch, but there is an exchange discount worth Rs. 2,000. The handset will come in a single colour option: Matte Black.
Nokia 6 Review
Coming towards the Honor 9 Lite, this new smartphone by Huawei brand Honor was launched in India last month. The Honor 9 Lite 4GB RAM variant is available at Rs. 14,999 via Flipkart and comes in three colour options, including Sapphire Blue, Glacier Grey, and Midnight Black. It comes with a complimentary back cover, and customers making orders through Citibank credit and debit cards are entitled to receive 10 percent cashback.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Launched, WhatsApp Payments Rollout, Jio Recharge Offer, and More News This Week
Welcome back to our roundup of all the tech happenings of the week. It was a busy week for Xiaomi, as the Chinese device maker announced new products in India, starting with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (review). It was launched on Wednesday with a starting price of Rs. 9,999, and goes on sale from February 22. The Redmi Note 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC, and it has a solid 4000mAh battery.
We reviewed the 4GB variant of the phone, priced at Rs. 11,999, and came away impressed but the build quality, the battery life, and most of all, the camera quality. The Redmi Note 5 took good shots both during the day and in low light, and macros turned out better than expected. However, selfies are a little grainy, although they’re still usable for social media.
If you want something that’s a step up, you could also consider the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (review). Launched at the same time as the Redmi Note 5, the Note 5 Pro features higher end internals, and therefore starts at a higher price of Rs. 13,999. It has almost the same dimensions, complete with the 5.99-inch full-HD+ display, and the 4000mAh battery. However, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, compared to the 3GB and 4GB variants for the Redmi Note 5. Aside from that, the Pro is based on the Snapdragon 636 SoC, and the big difference is in the cameras.
As we noted in our Redmi Note 5 Pro review, the phone has a dual-camera setup at the back, with 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors, and a 20-megapixel front camera. The secondary rear camera is only used for sensing depth for portrait mode, and it’s pretty accurate. Daylight shots look good, and although focus slows down in low light, the photos still look pretty good. The selfie camera also works really well in daylight, and there’s a selfie-light for indoor use. All in all, the phone’s a really good all-rounder.
Aside from these phones, Xiaomi also launched its first Mi TV in India – the Xiaomi Mi TV 4, 55-inch television which supports both 4K and HDR, and is priced at only Rs. 39,999. The television is powered by Xiaomi’s Patchwall interface, and you can control your set top box entirely through its remote; search for shows on TV, or browse through the guide without having to rely on the DTH provider’s interface. The software is being powered by Bengaluru-based Sensara, and bears some similarities to that company’s Sensy Fusion box.
Like the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Mi TV will also be sold from February 22, and will be available via Mi.com, Flipkart, and Mi Home stores. The TV will be available in only one size, and for the first three months, the Mi IR cable (worth Rs. 299), and on-site installation (priced at Rs. 1,099) are included in the price of the TV.
Aside from this, Xiaomi also tied up with Reliance Jio to offer a Rs. 2,200 cashback on phones, and a double data offer as well. People who buy either a Redmi Note 5 or Note 5 Pro will receive 44 cashback vouchers of Rs. 50 each, which can be used with Jio’s Rs. 198 or Rs. 299 plans. Subscribers will also get double data.
Later in the week, Jio announced its Reliance Jio Football Offer, extending the same deal to new smartphones from a wide range of brands. The offer is eligible for select phones from brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Asus, Motorola, Panasonic, Huawei, Nokia, LG, Micromax, 10.or, BlackBerry, and LYF.
Apart from this, Reliance’s smart-feature phone, the Jio Phone (review), is now available to buy via Amazon India, priced at Rs. 1,500 which can be refunded at the end of three years. Customers buying the phone using Amazon Pay balance will get a Rs. 50 cashback, and there’s a 50 percent cashback up to Rs. 50 on recharges as well. The Jio Phone also got an official Facebook app, although there’s still no official WhatsApp app for the Jio Phone.
Airtel announced a Rs. 9 recharge, which gets you unlimited local, STD, and roaming calls for one day, similar to Reliance Jio’s Rs. 19 plan. You also get 100MB of data on this plan; Airtel also has a Rs. 23 plan which also has unlimited calling, and 200MB data. Idea has also updated its plans, with its Nirvana postpaid plans all offering more data per month. The company first updated its Rs. 499, Rs. 649, and Rs. 999 plans, but now it’s expanded this to its entire range of offerings. BSNL also unveiled new unlimited voice and data plans, for Rs. 99 with a validity of 26 days, and Rs. 319 with a validity of 90 days. It also unveiled a Rs. 999 recharge, which offers 1GB data per day for 1 year, and unlimited calls for 6 months.

WhatsApp’s UPI payments was first seen on its beta last week, and this week, it started rolling out to all users in a wide beta that’s been capped to 1 million users. It was later confirmed that a ‘full feature’ money transfer service will be launching soon in India, where it has more than 200 million users. Not everyone has been pleased with the rollout though – Paytm raised security concerns and also pointed out that WhatsApp’s UPI implementation isn’t properly interoperable. Although the NPCI – which is in charge of the UPI – stressed that WhatsApp is in a trial phase, Paytm has raised concerns about the size of the trial as well.
Using WhatsApp to transfer money is incredibly simple though. By obscuring options such as entering a VPA, and simply automating much of the UPI flow, WhatsApp has made it much simpler to use than other apps. Sending money is as easy as sharing a photo or your location on WhatsApp, and you can read our WhatsApp guide in case you have any questions.

Meanwhile, Google continues to roll out lite versions of its different apps, setting the stage for Android Oreo (Go Edition). The latest app in the list is Gmail Go, which is a lite version of Gmail, as the name suggests. It supports multiple accounts, and the app is half the size of its full featured sibling. Despite that, it provides the same smart inbox and looks pretty similar to the otirinal app.
And on the phones front, we also got a large number of leaks about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, ahead of the two phones’ launch at the Galaxy Unpacked event on February 25, just ahead of MWC 2018 in Barcelona. For one thing, new leaks suggest improved camera performance, which is a safe bet. Expect better low-light performance, and a slow-motion camera feature. Another teaser also hinted at an upgrade to the front-facing iris scanner. Separately, the Galaxy S9+ is likely to get a dual rear camera setup, while the Galaxy S9 is not.
Another leak says that the phones will feature 3D emoji that mimic the user’s facial expressions, similar to Apple’s Animoji. Further leaks say the phone will come with stereo speakers. Aside from this, the wireless charger was revealed thanks to a user manual found on the Samsung website. It’s expected to be priced at around EUR 75 (roughly Rs. 5,900). And on Reddit, a user who claimed to have used the phone for about 20 minutes says it’s very similar in design to the Galaxy S8, though there is a “slightly better placed” fingerprint sensor on the back. The Redditor also said that 3D emoji is “not a direct ripoff” of Animoji, “more like a mix between Animoji and Bitmoji” and “looks less polished than Apple’s version.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance Review
Apart from this, another leak suggests that the upcoming HTC Desire 12 will be an entry-level smartphone with an 18:9 display. The pricing and availability haven’t been disclosed yet, but it’s believed that this will be one of the cheapest phones at this aspect ratio. We may also have gotten a look at the LG G6 successor – a leak of the ‘LG Judy’, which it’s believed will be releasing in June, could be LG’s new flagship. The phone’s going to have a 6.1-inch display, and a Snapdragon 845 SoC on the inside.
A live image leak of the Nokia 7 Plus also points to an 18:9 aspect ratio, and suggests that the phone is being tested in India, as the word ‘namaste’ is visible. There is apparently a stock Android experience, likely to be an Android Oreo version. Renders also revealed the specifications of the phone, as well as the Nokia 1. We also got a specifications and design leak for the Moto G6, Moto G6 Play, and Moto G6 Plus. The phones are expected to be priced at around Rs. 12,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 17,000 respectively, and will likely launch before June 30.
There were also a number of other launches this week, including a 4GB variant of the Nokia 6. The handset has 64GB storage. This variant has been launched as a Flipkart-exclusive, priced at Rs. 16,999, with an additional launch discount of Rs. 2,000 – bringing it to Rs. 14,999, the same price that the 3GB RAM variant is currently selling for online.
The handset has a 5.5-inch full-HD display, a Snapdragon 430 SoC, 16-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel from camera. The 4G VoLTE capable phone supports Dolby Atmos audio, and comes with a 3000mAh battery.
The Best Free Photo Editing Apps on Android
The Oppo A71 (2018) has been launched in India just days after its initial availability in Pakistan. It’s available with a price tag of Rs. 9,990 and is already available for purchase through Flipkart. It has a 5.2-inch HD display, a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC, and 3GB of RAM, along with 3000mAh battery.
We also saw the Moto Z2 Force bundled with the TurboPower Pack Moto Mod worth Rs. 5,999 launched in India, priced at Rs. 34,999. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC, with a 5.5-inch QHD display, 6GB RAM, and 64GB storage. There are two 12-megapixel cameras on the back, and a 5-megapixel camera on the front, and it has a 2730mAh battery, while the bundled Moto Mod has a 3500mAh capacity.
Other launches this week included the Karbonn Titanium Jumbo 2, which is priced at Rs. 5,999 and comes with an Airtel cashback offer of up to Rs. 2,000. The Celkon UniQ, which has a 5-inch HD display and a 16-megapixel rear camera, comes in at Rs. 8,999, and two phones from Comio – the Comio C2 Lite and Comio S1 Lite – priced at Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 7,499.
We also got the Aqua Lions T1 Lite – a more basic version of the Aqua Lions T1 that was debuted in India in November last year. The Aqua Lions T1 Lite is priced at just Rs. 3,899, making it one of the most affordable 5-inch smartphones you can buy right now.
There were two other launches this week: after a special preview event in November, Dyson is now officially in India, with its first store open in Delhi, bringing vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, and hair dryers; and the Amazon Echo speakers have exited the invite-only launch, and can now be bought offline as well. According to Amazon, the three months of invite-only were to get the smart speakers in the hands of early adopters who were going to be okay with a device that’s a little rough around the edges.
By now, the company added, it’s learned what the Indian customers want, and improved its smart assistant Alexa’s capabilities for the market. The top request? To teach ‘her’ Rajinikanth jokes.
