I've been playing Dragon Age 2 with mods recently and wanted to share my list! 🤍 It's about 20 mods and vanilla friendly with a focus on improving graphics.
I adore the base game and wanted to only add mods that enhance what's already there and not deviate from vanilla designs too much. It's mostly lore friendly texture improvements for environments & companions.
Also, I play almost exclusively as mage Marian Hawke (the default female MC) so this list doesn't include many character creator mods (like hair, eyes, makeup, etc). I have a beefy PC so I don't experience performance issues but your experience may vary.
How to Install DA2 Mods:
It's actually really easy! Watch this video for more details. For most mods, and for all of the mods in this list, all you need to do is extract the archive and move it into the game's overwrite folder. File path: Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age 2\packages\core\override
I may update this list as I find more mods I try and love! Enjoy! 🤍
My DA2 Modlist:

I hated every time Davrin’s quests took me back to Arlathan, cuz my computer does not like it there, bro!
Sooooo many frames be droppin’ deuces there and it actually gave me a headache.
Why are the most beautiful places the most taxing on my poor hard drive?
Worst part is, I don’t actually think it’s my computer.
Toussaint in the Witcher 3 is just as rich and beautiful on a graphical scale, but my computer handles it just fine.
Arlathan Forest, makes my PC panic and whir like it’s having an asthma attack.

Five Games Under Five Hours You Should Play
I've only been playing video games regularly for the past 5 or 6 years (if you don't count my hundreds of hours in Pokemon White and Nintendogs) and I find that committing to a long game can feel like such a drag. Why should I start playing The Witcher 3, a game that will take hundreds of hours to finish, when I could just play Animal Crossing again? Through this thought process, I've come across many short games that are up to 5 hours long that I love and I wanted to share them. These are in no particular order.
1. THE GARDENS BETWEEN
You play as two neighbours unravelling their memories through cool time manipulation mechanics. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and just adds to the overall tone of the game. For anyone who likes a bit of a puzzle and heartwarming human relationships. [3 hours - Switch, PS4, Steam, Xbox One]
2. A SHORT HIKE
Play as a dubious penguin trying to climb a mountain for phone signal. Complete tasks for other people on the mountain to reach the peak and explore the beautiful sights. This 3D pixel art style is not one seen often in gaming right now and it's a refreshing change. While only a very short game I expect I will revisit just to explore the island again. [1 hour - Steam]
3. PIKUNIKU
You play as a ??? in a capitalist world hellbent on destroying an island to build a new industrial town. Your job is to save them all. A wonderful and silly adventure where you play watermelon basketball and run away from attacking toast. Happy little game! [3 hours - Switch, Xbox One, Steam]
4. FLORENCE
Despite being the shortest on this list, this game is by far my favourite. Florence is about a former artist struggling to regain her creativity while stuck in a dead-end job. It's beautifully illustrated, animated, and scored and as a creative, I totally understand the feeling of not being motivated to do what you love. If you don't play anything else on this list, play Florence! [less than 1 hour - iOS, Android, Steam, Switch]
5. JOURNEY
Many people have likely heard or played this game before but it is scheduled to release for the first time on PC so many people will soon be playing it for the first time. Journey is exactly what it says it is. You play a fairly unknown character as they climb up to the peak of a mountain. Somehow without a word of dialogue and with the music and visuals alone, you feel the emotions of the character. An absolutely fantastic game [2 hours - PS4]
Most of these games have been sat in my game library waiting to be played for so long and finally playing them and finding out I'd had this great game sitting there was somewhat annoying. So I encourage everyone to play that game you bought 6 years ago in a Steam sale that is still in your library dying to be played because it might be better than you think.

As my laptop starts to get too old to run new games and has started making a worrying clicking noise I was remembering past computers and the games that pushed me to upgrade them:
family computer I had as a kid: it couldn’t run Halo 2 since it was Windows XP, it just died due to age and the usb and display ports becoming nonfunctional.
Dell First laptop: it had Windows 7 (which tragically also could not run Halo 2 for pc) and it died due to the graphics card burning out. It wasn’t able to run Witcher 2 and conveniently died around the same time the game came out.
Big Dell 17 inch laptop: I went big for better gaming but also to better split programs across a screen. This computer lasted through both Witcher 2 and Witcher 3. RIP it died to accidental fall damage when my bag was knocked off a desk.
Republic of Gamers even bigger 17 inch laptop: it’s lasted almost 6 years since a small business repair shop was able to get replacing the graphics card and motherboard covered under a “known defect. I will salute it when it dies. However there are a bunch of games like Total War: Warhammer or No Man's Sky that it just can't run at a playable level due to old graphics card with low Vram and SSD space.
I was able to take advantage of August sales and get a new computer before mine fails at the worst moment as has happened 3 times before. Since handheld consoles have gotten so advanced I decided to build a desktop pc since it will be way cheaper to maintain and upgrade going forward. I'll mark the inaugurating game as Baldur's Gate 3, but also playing Destiny 2 it feels almost like a different game with how much nicer and more detailed the graphics are.

one of my biggest gripes that i have is that people underestimate what the Nintendo Switch can run. yes, anything more graphically intensive won't look as good as if you played on PC or ps5 or xbox but it can still run games like Witcher 3, Assassins Creed 4 and Rogue, Skyrim (though that makes sense), outer worlds, warframe, Subnautica
the switch is by no means perfect, but for people who really don't give a damn about graficks, it can get all of the popular games you can think of and run decently

In the last couple years my sister has been getting into PC gaming and I find it hilarious that games like Morrowind are completely unplayable for her because of the graphics. I grew up on the original Doom and a Wolf3d clone called Blake Stone so I'm not bothered by shitty graphics.
Sadly for her she's missed the peak balance of graphics and performance. Over the years games have gotten better and better looking. Faces have gotten more and more polygons giving them better definition. We've reached a point where the polygons are so tiny they aren't looking THAT much better through the years but the computing power needed to process that kind of information is so much more powerful for the diminishing returns that we're seeing.
Here's a few games at decade intervals to show how far we've come.
Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002)
Far Cry 3 (2012)
Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023)
Of course each year has some better looking games and some worse but the trend I've been talking about is pretty clear.
Anyway circling back to my sister this really sucks for her because she has an office PC. The CPU is decent. Ram is lacking but can be upgraded. The game killer is the onboard graphics chip and the case design prevents installing a video card unless I cut a bunch of stuff out with a dremel and jerry rig some stuff. Her onboard chip can barely run witcher 3 on minimum settings. Some games are better optimized than others but most modern titles she's interested in are a no-go.

I slept through the Game Awards because of three reasons:
Cat is being super clingy, and he's warm.
I forgot it was today/yesterday.
yeah no two real reasons.
So.
Astro Bot looks fun. Pity its PS5 only.
When did they release a new Batman Arkham game? I thought that series was over.
Oh that's why friends were joking about Blasphemous Ninja Gaiden. They were being serious.
... dark fantasy pac man...???
Mega Man Legends Shenmue?! Considering how the series went, I really really hope this works out well.
Witcher 4. huh. ... so funny enough I just got Witcher 3 after constantly not getting it.
FF7R (2) PC? I'm still waiting on the full set but cool.
Hyperrealistic cat game is freaking me out a little. Also last time I saw graphics that overly detailed, it was Balan Wonderworld's opening cutscene. Fingers crossed though.
NEW ICO GAME?! ... I never did get to play Guardian.
skimming skimming skimming... oh hey new Sonic racing game.
Yep they were right, new Okami game. Okami 3 game! Sick! Been a while though so not sure how well that'll go.

Best Game to Recapture a Gamers Heart?
Best Game to Recapture a Gamers Heart? I’ll say more below but in a nutshell they lost interest and happiness in gaming and it’s now been roughly 3 years since they played anything at all. The last game they played was Cyberpunk 2077 and they spent over a thousand, maybe two thousand hours in it; this from when it was launched, on OC, screw the patches. And they’d probably start up again as soon as their new PC comes in. They also enjoyed the first The Forest, The Witcher 3, Sekiro, Darkest Dungeon, the first three Mass Effect Games, Dragon Age: Origins (and only that DA game) plus a number of shooters I can’t remember. In the dark ages they really liked the original Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2, with expansions, as well as Doom 3 and Half Life 2 plus its packs. So, the above is just there to give you the best memory I have of their history, if that helps give ideas for some game that might whet their interest and appetite for playing. Now, in regards the reason they stopped playing, so you’ll understand it’s more than just growing older and past the hobby. They have a few mental health issues, including bipolar depression (think of it as really, really severe depression) and anhedonia. Anhedonia is where you stop being able to take pleasure in anything, and in the worst cases the most basic and simplest of pleasures. They’re currently in therapy and taking medication that seems to have put them in a much better headspace. In addition to that they’ll be taking a few college classes next year, just light stuff at first. So my thought was that a hobby like gaming has previously been a real way for them to engage and get some entertainment. I’ve debated between console and PC; I view console as more casual personally, where you’re able to launch and drop out with far greater ease which could be a real benefit. But they’re going to need a computer no matter what and since previously they were used to computer gaming, I feel they’d miss those superior graphics and performance too much.Anyway, I’m looking for some help to pick out a game or games that might either ease them back into gaming, and / or securely catch and lure them. Game Development with C++: Leveraging the Power of a Proven Language
Introduction:
In the dynamic world of game development, choosing the right programming language is a critical decision that influences a game's performance, flexibility, and scalability. C++, a time-tested and robust language, has established itself as a powerhouse in the realm of game development. With its efficient memory management, low-level control, and performance optimization capabilities, C++ remains a top choice for building high-quality, immersive gaming experiences. This article explores the strengths of C++ in game development, delving into its key features, industry applications, and why developers continue to leverage its power.
The Power of C++ in Game Development:
Performance Optimization: One of the standout features of C++ in game development is its ability to optimize performance. Games demand real-time responsiveness, and C++'s low-level memory manipulation allows developers to finely tune and optimize their code for maximum efficiency. This level of control is crucial for resource-intensive tasks such as rendering graphics, physics simulations, and AI computations.
Efficient Memory Management: Game developers often grapple with memory constraints, and C++'s manual memory management provides a level of control that is essential for optimizing resource usage. Through features like pointers and custom memory allocators, developers can fine-tune memory allocation and deallocation, preventing performance bottlenecks and ensuring a smoother gaming experience.
Cross-Platform Development: C++ facilitates cross-platform game development, allowing developers to write code that can be compiled and run on different operating systems. This flexibility is particularly valuable in an industry where games are released on multiple platforms, including PC, consoles, and mobile devices. Tools like Unreal Engine and Unity, which are widely used in the game development community, have C++ as a primary language for extending functionality and implementing performance-critical components.
Integration with Existing Libraries and Engines: C++ seamlessly integrates with existing game development libraries and engines, contributing to its popularity. Many game engines, such as Unreal Engine and Unity, expose APIs that enable developers to extend functionality through C++ scripting. This integration enables developers to leverage the capabilities of established engines while incorporating custom C++ code for specific game features or optimizations.
Object-Oriented Design: C++’s object-oriented features, inherited from its predecessor C, provide a structured and modular approach to game development. The use of classes and objects allows developers to organize code in a way that mirrors real-world entities, enhancing code readability, maintainability, and reusability. Object-oriented design is particularly beneficial for complex game architectures, facilitating the creation of scalable and extensible systems
Community Support and Resources: The C++ game development community is vast and active, providing a wealth of resources, tutorials, and open-source projects. From forums and online communities to extensive documentation, developers can easily find support and guidance when working with C++ for game development. This collaborative environment fosters knowledge sharing and accelerates the learning curve for newcomers to the world of game development.
Industry Applications of C++ in Game Development:
AAA Titles: C++ is the language of choice for developing AAA (Triple-A) titles, which are characterized by high production values, cutting-edge graphics, and intricate gameplay mechanics. Games like "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and "Doom Eternal" showcase the capabilities of C++ in creating visually stunning and complex gaming experiences.
Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Simulation Games: C++ is well-suited for the development of real-time strategy and simulation games that demand sophisticated AI, physics simulations, and complex game mechanics. Essential Cyberpunk 2077 mod gets better alongside Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077 is certainly a pretty game, but get too close to many of its environments and you’ll start to notice the cracks – or, in many cases, the low-res blurs that imply a crack. Fortunately, one of the best Cyberpunk 2077 mods is getting a full overhaul to coincide with the launch of CD Projekt Red’s Phantom Liberty DLC for the RPG game. Whether you’re planning to play that or just starting your Cyberpunk 2077 adventure, you won’t want to go without this mod. With the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty release date just weeks away, noted modder ‘Halk Hogan’ – also the mind behind The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project – announces Cyberpunk 2077 HD Reworked Project 2.0, a complete overhaul to the already impressive visual upgrade that improves the look of tons of environmental textures across the entire game, covering Night City and the Badlands. Halk Hogan says the 2.0 edition “reworks a lot of environment textures that were not touched in the initial version, and also improves a lot of textures from 1.0.” They add, “I’m still working on overall improving the quality and yes, this update brings the texture quality to an even better level than before.” If you need convincing, the announcement trailer below should sell you in a heartbeat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEJ26FztdKE Not only is the Cyberpunk 2077 HDRP (to use its short-hand descriptor) a very welcome boost to the overall look of the game, but many players using it also report smoother performance with an increased framerate and fewer hitches and microstutters than the base game. You even have two choices of tier – while almost anyone on one of the best graphics cards will be comfortable with the ‘ultra quality’ version, there’s also a ‘balanced’ edition for those who are on lower-spec machines. Cyberpunk 2077 HDRP 2.0 is set for an October release, shortly after the arrival of Phantom Liberty. Halk Hogan says that the mod will work with the new DLC, although it presumably won’t touch any new, unique textures that have been created specifically for the expansion. Nevertheless, you’ll want to make sure you have this ready to go – and you can install the 1.0 version right now if you haven’t yet experienced its beauty. Take a look through the new Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements if you want to ensure your rig is ready for Phantom Liberty, which raises some of the entry-level demands of the game. We’ve also outlined the best Cyberpunk 2077 settings for PC to help squeeze the most out of your setup. Read the full article
