Hello friends, I am back with more reading recommendations for your agonies! Next up we have the long awaited and much requested Sad Boat Fiction list. As with all of my lists, this is NOT exhaustive and there WILL be great books left off, and also you may or may not like these books! I only rec things that I've personally enjoyed or that come highly recommended by trusted friends, but taste in books is incredibly subjective, especially with fiction. The 96th Academy Awards will air live coast-to-coast on ABC on Sunday, March 10 from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

While Jimmy Kimmel is set to return for the fourth time as host, the 2024 Oscars will air at a new, earlier time of 4 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. ET.

Mark Clark (June 28, 1947 - December 4, 1969) was an activist and member of the Black Panther Party was killed along with Chicago BPP President Fred Hampton. He was born to Elder William Clark and Fannie Bradley Clark in Peoria. He became active in with NAACP. He was an activist fighting against discrimination in employment, housing, and education. He attended Illinois Central College.

He joined the Chicago chapter of BPP after reading its literature and ten-point program. He organized a Peoria chapter of the BPP where with the support of local Pastor Blaine Ramsey, he established a free breakfast program at Ward Chapel AME Church.

The Chicago Police stormed into Fred Hampton’s apartment, killing Clark and Hampton, and wounding Verlina Brewer, Ronald “Doc” Satchel, Blair Anderson, and Brenda Harris.

Cook County Coroner Andrew Toman held an inquest into the deaths of Clark and Hampton. He formed a six-person Coroner’s jury which included two African Americans, Dr. Theodore K. Lawless and attorney Julian B. Wilkins. The panel ruled the deaths of him and Hampton as justifiable homicide.

A $47.7 million lawsuit was filed on behalf of the survivors and the relatives of Clark and Hampton, stating that their civil rights were violated. Twenty-eight defendants were named in the lawsuit. Judge Joseph Sam Perry of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois dismissed the suit against twenty-one defendants before jury deliberations. After jurors were deadlocked on the charges against the seven remaining defendants, Perry dismissed the lawsuit.

The US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago stated that the government had withheld documents, obstructing the judicial process. The case was reinstated against twenty-four of the defendants and the Court of Appeals ordered a new trial. The SCOTUS heard the appeal and voted 5-3 in 1980 to return the case to the District Court for a new trial. The City of Chicago, Cook County, and the federal government agreed to a settlement in which each defendant would pay $616,333 to a group of nine plaintiffs, including the mothers of he and Hampton. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #blm

The Critics Choice Awards 2024 celebrated cinematic and television excellence on Sunday night, January 14, 2024. Chelsea Handler returned as the host for the evening. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer shone, securing eight wins, including Best Picture and Best Director though Cillian Murphy missed the Best Actor win. Any round beaded fruit (Apple, watermelon, orange, pear) from TOMO Handicraft - super easy start point! Use larger center beads and just add 1 or 2 more small beads per row to make the watermelon.

Little Cherries from Tezukuri Notes! - I just make the fruit, not the jewelry, but it’s easy and a good next step.

Larger Cherries from Tezukuri Notes! - this is the one I kept counting wrong. You can make the berries into any round fruit - I add a stem and leaf based on what I learned from other videos to make an apple and it looks great. I also leave out the center bead apples. But if you are going to make cherries, watch the video all the way through first!

Orange (or other round fruit) from Tezukuri Notes! - I tried this one first and it came out ugly. But now that I have done a bunch more and learned better practices, I am going to go back to try it again.

Hüller, on the other hand, has given a breathtaking performance in the trilingual thriller.

RDJ might be memorable for Tony Stark/Iron Man. However, it's his portrayal of Strauss that's going to win this year. With two previous nominations (including one for portraying Charlie Chaplin), RDJ would likely be the first Marvel hero to win the Golden Man. He would also repeat the feat of Actor-Supporting Actor wins for the same film - after 1959's Ben Hur (Charlton Heston - Charles Laughton), 2003's Mystic River (Sean Penn - Tim Robbins), and 2013's Dallas Buyers Club (Matthew McCoughnahey - Jared Leto).

The much-awaited nominations for Oscars 2024 are here and there have been quite a few snubs this season. Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy emerged victorious, securing an impressive 13 nominations, including Best Picture. Greta Gerwig was snubbed for Best Director, and so was Margot Robbie for Best Actress but Barbie secured eight nominations. Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things starring Emma Stone trailed closely with 11 nominations. Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon earned 10 nods, with Leonardo DiCaprio being snubbed from the Best Actor.
