#Will loves Hannibal

Hannibal was definitely kicking his feet and blushing in this scene.

Knowing that Will was sleeping beside him, aware of the vulnerable position that he put himself in, yet he sleeps soundly. Will is not the kind of person to allow himself to be vulnerable, and Hannibal knows this. Which is why he would be so pleased with the fact that Will trusts him.

Guys, please, I beg you, stop backlashing Hugh Dancy after the recent con. I want him to keep attending conventions, not withdraw from them because he will be afraid to say anything. He had to already explain his "platonic love".

I'm not going to take credit for knowing what the author of the statement meant, but don't forget that Hugh Dancy is one big troll. He makes jokes about Hannibal very often. "Big splash" said about the season 3 finale before it aired, etc.???

I will only write how I understood Hugh Dancy's statement, not that he necessarily means this. Hugh himself compared the series to a romantic comedy. He doesn't say what fans want to hear (like Mads); he tries to rationalize Will's relationship with Hannibal.

An actor plays a given character, he doesn't have to see this character in the same way as fans. In my opinion, Mads Mikkelsen is the embodiment of both Hannibal's and fans' desires - yes, Hannibal and Will are married, they live together, they are murder husbands, have dogs. And what Hugh Dancy says doesn't entirely exclude the vision of Mads and the fans?

The fourth season was supposed to be about Will learning to truly accept himself, which at the same time must mean that he also learns to fully accept Hannibal and his love? Until the end of the third season, Will was not convinced that Hannibal was capable of love. Why shouldn't Will need time to accept his own feelings? Will knows he can't live with Hannibal, but he also knows he can't live without him. After finding out that Hannibal loves him, that's still a lot in my opinion?

This may be a pill hard to swallow, but Hannibal and Will hurt each other a lot in the past, so I guess that in Hugh's opinion it is more natural for the relationship to develop slowly rather than them to fuck nasty in the first second of the season 4.

Hannibal: No one can be fully aware of another human being unless we love them. By that love, we see potential in our beloved. Through that love, we allow our beloved to see their potential. Expressing that love, our beloveds potential comes true.

Let’s talk about Will’s massive lie to Hannibal of “You delight, I tolerate.”

We all know this is absolute bullshit bc we’ve literally seen him delight in his wickedness over & over again. When he’s winning, he delights! But he’s so stuck in the zero-sum game mindset, desperately trying get the upper hand over Hannibal in a forceful, satisfying way.

From the beginning of Season 2, Will’s been in denial about the extent of the power he holds over Hannibal, because to do so would mean acknowledging that Hannibal actually loves him & wants a life with him. He’s been actively fighting against that truth in his mind. So, he clings to the idea of the zero-sum game.

In TWotL, he tells Hannibal that his rejection was specifically designed to manipulate Hannibal into surrendering, which I believe was the truth. He assumed that would be enough to win the war between them, finally giving Will the power.

But then we see that he is not happy when Hannibal actually does it, which implies that he didn’t really believe it’d work.

When it did, Will had to face the uncomfortable realization that it wasn’t what he actually wanted. It didn’t feel like a win when Hannibal conceded, giving up that which Will believed was most important to him: his freedom. Since Will’s presence in Hannibal’s life was more important than Hannibal’s freedom, that left very little room for Will’s continued denial of his own power. Hannibal freely offered up the power that Will had been trying to take, and it was clearly very unsatisfying despite it being what Will thought he wanted.

Will had always insisted that a big part of Hannibal’ s motivation for their “game” was his own amusement. Anytime Hannibal’s behavior made Will suspect a softer motivation, he’d have an argument with his subconscious, insisting that wasn’t the case. He was always so sure that Hannibal was enjoying himself.

Of course, we know that to be categorically false. Han spent all of S3 absolutely miserable over everything that happened w Will & Abigail, to the point of nearly committing suicide-by-Jack. Hannibal has been trying like hell to end the war he started when he framed Will so that he wouldn’t have to kill him. From the beginning of 2a, the only actual enjoyment Han got was when it seemed like his efforts to repair things w Will were actually working.

Will needed to believe that Hannibal’s motivations with him were much darker than they were so that he could hold on to his willpower to resist joining him. By surrendering, Will was finally forced to confront the possibility that he may have been wrong, which was terrifying for him. It explains why he jumped into a marriage with his rebound to try like hell to prove to himself that he could manage a semblance of genuine happiness in a life without Hannibal. If he couldn’t, he’d have to actually face the fact that he’d spent over 18 months fighting a war against his soulmate & the love of his life that only existed within his own mind. The real war was being fought with himself.

Once we get to 3b, Will’s veneer of domestication starts to unravel REALLY quickly after he finally gets the courage to face the truth of how badly he’d hurt Hannibal. By the time we get to TWotL, he’s fully committed to using the Dragon as an opportunity to finally gain the upper hand in a way that’s actually satisfying for him, whether that’s by letting Hannibal get killed or by killing the Dragon with Hannibal.

He’s not satisfied with simply holding power over Hannibal that was freely given, so he forcibly takes it. By the time they actually survived the fall, he’d finally feel like an equal.

I love oblivious Will Graham. Hannibal always asking him over for dinner, seemingly for no reason, complimenting his clothes and hair every time. Hannibal asks Will to be his “plus one” to events and he agrees, wondering why Hannibal wouldn’t take a love interest with him. Confused by the fact that the older man booked a hotel room with only a double bed. Asking Will if he can come over to ‘walk the dogs’ which confuses Will as he knows Hannibal is not too fond of dogs.

He doesn’t realise that Hannibal just wants to be around him. Will just being totally clueless to all of the romantic gestures and obvious hints that Hannibal just wants to be near him. Yet Hannibal will never say “I love you” because the words cannot truly express how he feels for Will, love is not strong enough of a word. Words could never explain the feelings he has towards Will.
