Vía @mochileros.org Nadie sabe con certeza cómo esa cabeza de #Buda  terminó entrelazada en las raíces. Es una obra majestuosa e impresionante. Cuando uno la puede ver de cerca se puede dar cuenta que no existe intervención humana ni tallado alguno. No hay huellas de manipulación. Es la misma corteza la que modela a la perfección este rostro. Una teoría sugiere que el árbol simplemente creció alrededor de la cabeza de Buda durante el  período en el templo quedó abandonado. La otra hipótesis apunta a que un ladrón se llevó la cabeza fuera del templo para esconderla.  Esto podría haber sucedido en el año 1900 donde se sabe que una de las áreas del templo colapsó y atrajo a su vez a  saqueadores y buscadores de tesoros escarbando el área. Es posible que el ladrón nunca volviera por su botín o simplemente no pudiera moverla más allá de las murallas que rodean el templo.  Entonces la cabeza de Buda de piedra fue abandonada en la pared cercana a la entrada de #WatMahathat en donde se puede ver hoy en día rodeada de raíces y formando parte del árbol mismo. Soon after Bangkok was established as the capital of Siam, the temple became strategically situated between the newly built Grand Palace and Front Palace (residence of the vice-king). As a result, the temple was used for royal ceremonies and funerals. Throughout the past two centuries, the temple has been renovated and elevated in status by many Thai kings and royalties. It became the Wat Mahathat of Bangkok in 1803 and was given its current name in 1996. The temple is also home to Vipassana Meditation centre. Haunting sight of a sandstone Buddha head entwined within the roots of a Bodhi tree. The head had fallen off a larger Buddha image, and was gradually trapped in the constantly growing roots. When the Burmese invaded Ayutthaya in the 18th century, they had raided and destroyed many of the capital’s temples and lopped off Buddha heads.

Es ist die ehemalige Hauptstadt des Königreichs Siam und hatte von 1350 bis zur Zerstörung durch die Burmesen 1767 einen florierenden internationalen Handelshafen. Die Ruinen der Altstadt bilden heute den Geschichtspark #ayutthayathailand , eine archäologische Stätte mit Palästen, buddhistischen Tempeln, Klöstern und Statuen. IM 18. JAHRHUNDERT HATTE AYUTTHAYA MEHR ALS 1 MILLION EINWOHNER UND GALT ALS EINE DER PRÄCHTIGSTEN STÄDTE DER WELT. ZWISCHEN DEN RUINEN DER EHEMALIGEN ALTSTADT SIND JEDOCH NICHT NUR DIE STEINERNEN ÜBERRESTE DER TEMPEL DIE GROSSE ATTRAKTION, SONDERN EIN BAUM... Für Besucher in der heutigen Zeit sind jedoch nicht nur die Mauerreste besonders mystisch, sondern ein uralter "Banyan Tree", dem man sich nur auf ein paar Meter nähern darf. Denn dieser Baum ist heilig. ZUM "LEBEN ERWECKT"... Irgendwann, so geht die Legende, enthaupteten die burmesischen Truppen auch Statuen, um ihre Macht zu demonstrieren.Und so wurde auch einem wertvollen Steinbuddha der Kopf abgeschlagen. Um diesen vor den Feinden zu retten, die Ayutthaya bis zum Jahre 1767 fast vollständig zerstörten, vergruben ihn gläubige Buddhisten an einer Stelle in der Nähe des Tempels. Als wollte Mutter Natur ihn nicht unter der Erde verschüttet wissen, sorgten die Wurzeln eines mächtigen Baumes dafür, dass das Buddha-Antlitz wieder zu Tage trat und somit die heilige Statue wieder "das Licht der Welt erblicken konnte". Der in dem mächtigen, knorrigen Geäst fest eingewachsene Steinkopf des Buddhas gehört heute zu den meistfotografierten Motiven im Geschichtspark von Ayutthaya. #watmahathat 🔸 🔸 Ayutthaya Thailand 🇹🇭 Asia . .
