Shakespeare & Co. bookstores throughout Europe
This summer I’ve been to the three Shakespeare & Co. bookstores there are in Europe.
The Parisian bookstore is by far the most amazing one, but being my home one might say I’m a little biased. The only problem with this bookstore now is the massive amount of tourists… but I don’t blame them, it really is worth a visit
The second one I’ve been is in Vienna, Austria such a cute store. Incredible ambience and even more incredible staff. So helpful and always with a smile. I loved there! At first it didn’t seem like a big store, but once you get to the end there’s a tiny corridor that takes to another section of the store and I found this so amazing!
The third and last one was the bookstore in Praha, Czech Republic. I really love this bookstore. The prices were by far the cheapest out of all three. The staff once again really amazing, and the store was huge !!! They transformed this old basement as part of the store and it was really cozy and I just sat there for almost an hour reading.

WIP Wednesday: Custos Custodium
In which Jensen tries to juggle investigating the bombing he just survived, his own team's possible suborning by the Illuminati, and the mysterious augs someone jammed into him. Read the whole SNAFU here.
Sedlak was with a customer when he entered Praha Dovoz: she brushed him off with convincing impatience. He asked after the bathroom, and she gave him the cover he needed, jerking an aggravated thumb at the back of the small building. He shut the door to the storefront behind him, then the door to the janitor’s closet, and scanned his card. The closet floor dropped slowly on its mechanism.
“Vega,” he radioed her, “I’m back in business. This whisper chip you gave me: it’s an easy plant?”
“Yeah, easy as it gets. There’ll be a data port on the NSN motherboard. Access it, and then just plug and play. Or plug and record, in this case.”
“Got it. Let you know when it’s done.”
He passed through the scanner and laser grid, recognized and welcomed by the artificial voice. It was nice to be the one with the secret lair for a change. The elevator hit bottom and he stepped out into the bustle of the Task Force in full swing.
To an extent, it resonated familiarly with his years in police bullpens—phones ringing, keyboards hammering, quiet voices speaking intently in cubicles. And it had the same round-the-clock, caffeine-fueled sense of temporal dislocation. Whatever time it was upstairs in the world, down here it was always go time. He felt harmonics from the SWAT ready room, as well: a couple of their Peacekeepers strolled around in fatigues, two in battle rattle followed a similarly-equipped agent back from some smaller op, and muffled gunfire coughed from the shooting range next to their outsized armory.
But even more than that, the place felt like spook country. Jensen had visited FBI field offices before, and the ones with a facilities budget had felt a little like this, all glass and steel and touchscreen displays mixed with the occasional holotable. Analyst chatter had a subtly different cadence from field agent chatter, a little less belligerent, a little more neurotic. He stood in the elevator’s mouth, soaking up the tenor of the place, and decided it was up a notch or two from baseline: the bombing had kicked the hornet’s nest.
Jensen mounted the stairs to the second-floor mezzanine, where Miller’s office overlooked the bullpen. Argento stopped him at the head of the stairs.
“Jensen! You’re here—you made it in. It’s good to see you’re okay.” She put a hand on his shoulder and peered up at his face as if to check.
“Yeah, it was a close call. I got lucky; a lot of people didn’t. Thought you’d be back in the States by now?”
“News of the bombing came in while I was in line to board—I bailed. My family… they understood. I’ll visit when things calm down a little more.” And of course she had to be seen giving a hundred and ten percent, if she wanted a field assignment. “It’s been chaos—phones ringing off the hook, you know how it is. But I’m sure it was worse right after. And to be at ground zero… when Miller told me you were there, I thought—”
“I’m all right.”
Whatever she saw in his face satisfied her. She rapped him on the shoulder and smiled. “Only the metaphorical screws loose, huh? Good. But if you’re looking for him, he’s tied up right now. A meeting with Lyon, I think.”
“Really? He’s using the NSN right now?”
“Yeah, I just saw him go in. Oh, hey! That reminds me—new card for the shooting range. Chang changed all the codes this morning.”
“Again?” He handed over the old one. It was the second time this week.
“The bombing really freaked him out. Third one in six months, can you believe it? I just— I’m really glad you’re okay.”
She looked up at him soberly, and he tried to project a reassuring aura despite the knot in his gut over the mystery augs and the Collective’s whisper chip burning a hole in his pocket. While she’d never opened up to him, he knew she’d lost people back in the Corps, and some of them probably to explosives. “Thanks,” he said. “Me too. Guess I gotta wait on Miller.”
“Yeah, and I should get back downstairs, hand out the rest of these cards. See ya.”
He watched her go. Full armor again, and a glove over her augmented right hand—she wore twenty-five kilos of ceramic plate as easily as running gear. Ready to strap on a gun or five and hit the VTOL whenever Miller and MacReady signed off. And bolstered against anyone who disapproved of an Aug with a Nu-poz issue as an agent. No wonder she’d been awkward, dressed for dinner.

Impressions of Praha #2
This part will cover mostly Praha Castle and the Charles Bridge. And lots of windows. I have to say first that I am... slightly spoiled when it comes to monumental buildings. Therefore please pardon me when my judgement of what I saw in Praha is maybe a bit underwhelming. Anyway, let's start. This is Charles Bridge leading to Praha Castle. It was build in 14th Century by... King Charles of Luxembourg.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/556f5c39ca55d279d2441df6f69a518b/05dba65dbf09399a-ce/s540x810/4acdcdf7038c3c0fc6f3223fd6d528c6198509a8.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cb0e5513bb91ee0383f886c41b68e050/05dba65dbf09399a-20/s540x810/4032cc5f2c32535fa65d1f9c7259ef361edbda72.jpg)
There are some streetvendors obviously but they only sell the typical stuff, like painting or caricatures and little bracelets and stuff. Nothing too fancy but tourist seems to like it for some reason. More important is this dude below. You might have seen him in tumblr posts already :D A good golden boi. (yes, of course I touched him too for good luck)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a156fb3a74779e031a3333ec6a07d21f/05dba65dbf09399a-dd/s540x810/b8285e5e06cdbfbeac7dcf7f54974f5f17c0d696.jpg)
When you cross the bridge you have to walk through 2 big towers. The gothic one is dating back to 12th century and is therefore older than the bridge itself. The other one is the youngest part of the bridge, built in 1454 and made from sandstone.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6193b93a4192814c6f9966677e3bd814/05dba65dbf09399a-6e/s540x810/4874881f65dba94a8ca58c3744f60da6a4098a9c.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bd91fb68ce97b87f0640a200a6c34774/05dba65dbf09399a-aa/s540x810/6a568ada22697461e75e64c9e842f07b993fffce.jpg)
Then, of course, you have to climb another hill. Once you managed and didnt die of pain in your feet you will reach Praha Castle. With an awesome view over the city. In the back there you can even see the "dancing houses", which I didnt visit up close.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a3d9c0246a29ed29d4ffa7598a5782a9/05dba65dbf09399a-34/s540x810/f1e68edbad279b27b6ab0269aa9c30718f831953.jpg)
If you buy the tickets for Praha Castle.. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES follow the mass of tourists. There are 2 building in which you can buy tickets. For some reasons the whole mass of people will walk to the right one, completely overlooking the left. Meaning you have hundreds of people waiting in line on the right, while the left one is.... walk in, pay, go outside. I suppose the other tourists were too floored by what greets you once you step inside the castle grounds.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/11288ff60a74ef6c9b083d8ec9240b03/05dba65dbf09399a-11/s540x810/7f1af21fc432b89af3db031db9fab4f4c3cd33ee.jpg)
This is St. Vitus Cathedral. For me not that impressing from the outside and inside (as I said I am spoiled by other cities). HOWEVER. .....
..... THE WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, I fell in love with the WINDOWS!!!! Look at this!!!!!! There is even one by Mucha himself!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5d5692b5cce69ec27f0c99eee9e30755/05dba65dbf09399a-fd/s540x810/4b47fe3e9661e2234a4fd600b7442527660eb509.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/36248366b214507faf0b4a644718d87f/05dba65dbf09399a-5e/s540x810/ba1ddaa7586e122305c500fd39eab20fc33f0062.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8065ac3b2b31fc33552adaa1636c790c/05dba65dbf09399a-93/s540x810/da49668ecb2f55b248ec9578bc6f35cc63059960.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/150c2d7fcb54a42b6c0a7c8d24c6b9dc/05dba65dbf09399a-f4/s540x810/7859b52e1c242cb7fc4a0206a82a6d825da9ce8f.jpg)
The windows come in many different styles too. I think I spend more time ogling the windows than anything else. Admittedly, cathedrals do mostly look the same if not for some location based oddities. So please excuse me for not taking pictures of the... uh... ordinary stuff. Which is still expensive and what not, but not feel like striking features for me. Oh and.... I'd like to present my archenemy.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bb3a67ded716d17ec58ece00ecb605d3/05dba65dbf09399a-e2/s540x810/95324a1b0738c5ab0fa17877c6d054e65fcf5417.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/45ca6d54541ad1089c5479f3cb3c2238/05dba65dbf09399a-5c/s540x810/8b7040f4cdaa1693d2b1030e21da58f7f479d0d1.jpg)
As you can see Praha Castle does not use one, not two, but more or less eight (!) different kinds of pavement. Needless to say - I suffered. And I suffered some more. Because you can visit the other buildings as well. Starting with Vladislaw Hall. Although quite interesting when it comes to how it is build - the kind of ceiling is self-stabilizing, meaning you don't need additional pillars to keep it from falling, also you have one entrance where you could ride inside on a horse if you came for a tournament as a knight - I nearly had a meltdown when I saw the rest.

That line of waiting tourists.... is not all. I was waiting in that line when I took the photo. What are they all waiting for? A window. More or less empty rooms with one important window. The window where the Prague Defenestration started. Needless to say I was incredibly underwhelmed.

This is the view out of said window, where (I think) two people fell down and somehow lived. ....... Anyway, much more interesting was the second floor! Look!!!

I have no idea who they all are, but isn't this pretty? Nearly all walls are covered in coats-of-arms and names and dates. I loved it. Next stop: St- George Cathedral. Not that imposing, for me personally rather bland, but interesting in terms of which elements were used for decoration. Especially the arches in an early frankish-moorish style.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d8856b829c903a6b43685d986905dedb/05dba65dbf09399a-42/s540x810/1b8438bb6909e631f0659a1de3b07177975ffbd8.jpg)

At that point I was nearly unable to walk. There was one part left, a tiny street with old houses. However I do know severaly medieval tiny streets that are much more interesting so I wasn't that impressed.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c5299ab3f000e03aa4191ce5bc4522c2/05dba65dbf09399a-bc/s540x810/a9a8ec2f0fc174fd669ef640b3bea8643e0e7f92.jpg)
And then at last the stairs of hell down the hill to the exit. Why stairs of hell? Because it was 2 uneven stair steps - then a slant with uneven stones - 2 uneven stair steps - slant - stair steps - and so on. A LONG WAY down. In winter probably deadly. In spring... not deadly but tiring. At the base the people sat down almost immediatly, on benches, on steps, on the ground. Just overall exhaustion. And that's it. As mentioned I still visited the Depeche Mode concert later that day, after returning to the hotel for a much needed rest. Our next bigger plan involves London. But that will take a while because money.

Man's Impact on the Environment . 29 January 2025 . Prague . Czech Republic
Prague (/ˈprɑːɡ/ PRAHG; Czech: Praha [ˈpraɦa] ⓘ)[a] is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic and the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated on the Vltava river, Prague is home to about 1.4 million people.
Prague is a political, cultural, and economic hub of Central Europe, with a rich history and Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia and residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably Charles IV (r. 1346–1378) and Rudolf II (r. 1575–1611). It was an important city to the Habsburg monarchy and Austria-Hungary. The city played major roles in the Bohemian and the Protestant Reformations, the Thirty Years' War and in 20th-century history as the capital of Czechoslovakia between the World Wars and the post-war Communist era.
Prague is home to a number of cultural attractions including Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín hill and Vyšehrad. Since 1992, the historic center of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
The city has more than ten major museums, along with numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas, and other historical exhibits. An extensive modern public transportation system connects the city. It is home to a wide range of public and private schools, including Charles University in Prague, the oldest university in Central Europe.
Prague is classified as an "Beta+" global city according to GaWC studies. In 2019, the PICSA Index ranked the city as 13th most livable city in the world. Its rich history makes it a popular tourist destination and as of 2017, the city receives more than 8.5 million international visitors annually. In 2017, Prague was listed as the fifth most visited European city after London, Paris, Rome, and Istanbul.

A december full of baking
Dobrý den everyone,
and welcome to my first blog entry. My name is Juliane but most people here in the Czech Republic call me Juli. I am 18 years old and together with Livia this years foreign volunteers here in TOTEM. I am honestly not sure where I should even begin. Somehow it feels like I have been in Plzen for more than just 4 months. So many things have happened in so little time. I guess what they say is true, time flies when you are busy.
The months I have been here have created many fond memories that I will look back on with joy. Of course, not everything is always sunshine and rainbows. Especially the grey days in November and December have not always been motivating. But there is always something that helps keep me going. Talking with Livia, my family and friends from home or a good book and coffee, just to name a few. I am really glad for Livia. She has been my steady pillar in a sea of new information. We got to know each other pretty quickly, something you can't really prevent when you are living and working together. We manage well, we have a set role distribution (me cooking our meals and her doing the dishes for example). Before coming here I was a bit worried about living with a stranger, even though we had some contact via whatsapp, you never know how a person really behaves until you meet them.
We were allowed to participate in a special event on the first of december. It was an afternoon full of creative crafting.

We decorated the TOTEM christmas tree together
Aside from the special events, we are also attending our language conversations (German and English in my case). I especially enjoy talking with the seniors and hearing about their life experiences. Trading stories with them and learning more about “must see” spots in Plzen and the surrounding area has been amazing. Some of which I already checked out.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Laila personally in December. She and her sister came to surprise the seniors with a visit. Later that week they invited us to brunch. We went to a really cute cafe and spent a few amazing hours there. The cafe definitely has the potential to become my favourite one in Plzen.
Livia and I spent a day in Praha. It was a fun day full of interesting conversations and Christmas markets.

Here is a picture we took on the train on our way back to Plzeň.

Since it is December, I have been baking every weekend. I really enjoy baking, especially around Christmas time. My family has been baking christmas cookies every december since me and my brother were little. It's a lovely tradition that I plan to continue every year. This year, I got to share my baked goods with my German conversation courses and Livia.
It's crazy to think about christmas already, like I said, the time seems to fly here in Plzeň. I am leaving on the 20th of December. But I am not going home directly, I will make a stop in Karlovy Vary where my dad will pick me up. We will drive to Crottendorf, where, together with my friends and family, I will visit a crafting workshop to make the typical German “Räucherkerzen” on the weekend before Christmas. There is not really a fitting translation so I will try to explain it as best as I can. It's basically a smoking cone used during the christmas time to make the home smell pleasant. The cones are made from the resin of the Frankincense tree, charcoal, potato flour, sandalwood and beech paste. These substances are ground together, stirred into a moist dough, and then shaped. After drying, they are put into the so-called “Räuchermänner” ,which are wood figures created in the Erzgebirge, to look like the figures themselves are smoking. They come in different forms like snowmen, Santa Claus or figures dressed in the typical traditional costume. We will spend the weekend in Crottendorf and go home after.
Veselé Vánoce and see you next year.
Juli

[ad_1] Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Fenerbache in UCL (PC: Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Fenerbache/X) RevSportz Comment At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was the English Premier League table, rather than the UEFA Champions League one. Aston Villa and Liverpool are the only teams with 100 per cent records, while Manchester City in third and Arsenal in ninth have yet to concede a goal in the competition. In a week when Germany’s finest were tormented by the might of Spain’s armada, there was also an eye-catching Europa League tie that saw Jose Mourinho sent off against Manchester United, with whom he had won the competition in 2016-17. The managerial star of the show, however, was definitely Unai Emery. The 2-0 win over Bologna – Colombia’s Jhon Duran actually started a game, instead of being super sub – took Villa, the 1982 European Cup winners, to the top of the standings. If the victory over Bayern Munich on matchday 2 was wildly celebrated, the dismissal of Bologna, Serie A’s surprise packages last season, was emphatic proof of the unbelievable job Emery has done at Villa Park. Arne Slot will hope to have a similar impact at Liverpool, where he has started the thankless task of succeeding Jurgen Klopp with 11 wins from his first 12 matches in charge. Liverpool barely got out of third gear against RB Leipzig, but a poacher’s finish from the revitalised Darwin Nunez gave them a second away win in the competition following their 3-1 triumph at the San Siro against AC Milan. Slot has consciously played down the hype, insisting that the bigger challenges lie ahead, and the visits of Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid to Anfield in November will certainly give a better idea as to whether his side are legitimate contenders for the trophy Klopp won in 2018-19. Real Madrid, the holders, were in a sticky spot halfway through the rematch of the 2024 final against Borussia Dortmund. The Germans were good value for a 2-0 lead, but Vinicius Junior, who always seems to find something extra in the biggest games, delivered a virtuoso hat-trick performance to seal a thumping 5-2 win. With Kylian Mbappe settling in and Jude Bellingham on the way back to his best, Real will be hard to stop. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Aston Villa in UCL (PC: Aston Villa/X) City, of course, will be the biggest challengers. A wonder goal from Erling Haaland was the centre piece of a 5-0 destruction of Sparta Praha. Even without Rodri, their defensive midfield stalwart ruled out for the season, City have enough options and nous to brush aside the best. Another team making light of injury concerns are FC Barcelona. Frenkie de Jong is out injured and Gavi just on his way back after a long-term knee problem. But with Pedri in sparkling form and standout performances from Fermin Lopez and Marc Casado, at the base of midfield, Bayern were outclassed in a thrilling 4-1 win. Raphinha took the match ball for his hat-trick, but it was the trio of youngsters in Barca’s midfield that stole the show as more questions came raining down on Vincent Kompany and Bayern. Diego Simeone’s stint as Atletico Madrid coach has taken in two heartbreaking Champions League final losses (2014 and 2016), but the team has regressed on the big stage since. The 3-1 home loss to Lille – the much-coveted Jonathan David scored twice – left them 28th in the 36-team table, having conceded eight times in three games. Simeone’s desire to play a more expansive and attractive style of football has come at the cost of the solidity and snarl that was the hallmark of his most successful sides. In the Europa League, Manchester United and Erik ten Hag still can’t win. Christian Eriksen’s early strike gave them the advantage in front of a hostile crowd at Fenerbahce, but it needed a jaw-dropping double-save from Andre Onana to keep them in front at half-time. Youssef En-Nesyri gave Mourinho’s team a deserved equaliser early in the second half before the incident that saw the Portuguese coach banished from the bench.
Mourinho was convinced his team should have had a penalty, and let fly with a volley of protests as Clement Turpin, the referee, ruled that Manuel Ugarte – who had his best game in a United shirt since his summer move from PSG – had committed no offence. Mourinho was at his colourful best in the post-game interviews, sarcastically calling Turpin’s the world’s best, but he will know that this was an opportunity missed against a United team still searching for cohesion and confidence. The rapid advancement of technology has brought sweeping changes to many industries, and engineering is no exception. One of the most significant innovations in recent years has been the rise of CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) software. CAE software allows engineers and designers to simulate, analyze, and optimize their designs before physical prototypes are created. This technology has revolutionized product development, making it faster, more cost-effective, and highly precise. Let’s explore how CAE software is transforming the world of engineering.
1. Enhanced Design Accuracy and Quality
One of the key benefits of CAE software is the ability to create highly detailed and accurate simulations of products or components. Engineers can test the behavior of materials under different conditions, such as stress, heat, and vibrations. This ensures that the design is optimized for performance and reliability. By identifying potential issues early in the design process, CAE software allows engineers to create higher-quality products, reducing the risk of failure and minimizing the need for costly redesigns.
2. Faster Product Development Cycles
Traditional product development often involves multiple rounds of physical prototyping and testing, which can be both time-consuming and expensive. CAE software accelerates this process by allowing engineers to run virtual simulations, reducing the need for physical prototypes. This not only speeds up the design process but also allows teams to explore multiple design iterations in a fraction of the time. As a result, companies can bring products to market faster, giving them a competitive edge.
3. Cost Savings Through Virtual Testing
Building and testing physical prototypes can be an expensive endeavor, especially for complex products. CAE software enables virtual testing, significantly cutting down on material costs and reducing the need for extensive physical trials. By simulating real-world conditions and stresses, engineers can refine designs without the need for costly trial-and-error methods. This virtual approach not only saves money but also minimizes waste, aligning with sustainable practices.
4. Multidisciplinary Integration
One of the most powerful aspects of CAE software is its ability to integrate multiple engineering disciplines. Whether it’s structural analysis, fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, or electromagnetics, CAE software allows engineers to simulate how different forces interact within a design. This holistic approach ensures that every aspect of the product is optimized, leading to better overall performance and durability.
5. Improved Innovation and Creativity
With CAE software, engineers have the freedom to push the boundaries of traditional design. The ability to quickly test new materials, shapes, and structures encourages greater creativity and innovation. What once may have been considered too risky or unfeasible can now be explored in a virtual environment, leading to groundbreaking products and technologies.
Conclusion
CAE software has become an indispensable tool in modern engineering, transforming the way products are designed, tested, and brought to market. Its ability to enhance accuracy, reduce costs, and shorten development cycles is driving innovation across industries. As CAE technology continues to evolve, its impact on engineering and product development will only grow, pushing the limits of what’s possible in design and manufacturing.
