Audio
yeah hey i finally decided to make a “proper” line delivery comparison audio for ansem’s darkness speech and what he says upon defeat from KH1 and KH2. because the speech is halved in KH2 i did the same for the KH1 audio so the comparison would be as accurate as can be. i was too titted to properly separate the speaking audio from the music but it’s good enough for now innit
billy zane’s voice is the first to be heard and is followed by richard epcar for both scenarios. my personal thoughts on their deliveries are below the cut.
Billy Zane
Darkness Speech: He speaks with a steady confidence that emphasizes his stalwart belief. Moreover, there’s a sort of wispy, mysterious quality to how slow he speaks, his speech undeniably presenting as more dramatic than informative from a researcher’s perspective. Moreover he starts to speak with a subtle haughtiness when talking of the heart- as if what he’s saying is commonplace and indisputable, laughable that he should have to explain his ideology in the first place.
Defeat: Although he sounds pained from the fight before, it’s evident he’s confident in the supposed power Kingdom Hearts possesses. He’s sure in that Kingdom Hearts will provide him the darkness and ergo power he needs in order to finish off Sora and continue his plan; he speaks with cockiness, no hints of desperation or fear in his tone despite his circumstances.
Richard Epcar:
Darkness Speech: With a firmer and clearer tone, he speaks a tad faster than Zane and is mellow and straight-forward, cold in his delivery. His monotonous delivery gives the impression he’s giving a proper, informative speech where he has little personal attachment to the subject matter. His banausic delivery only lasts until he starts to speak about the heart’s “true essence,” in which there is a subtle grin and sureness in his tone, as though his passion for his research can no longer be contained as he discusses his findings.
Defeat: He sounds more agonized, as if he’s truly on his last legs after the final fight. His booming command to Kingdom Hearts sounds more like a plea despite his aggressive call; with a strained tone Epcar sounds more desperate, making it sound as though Ansem is hoping to be filled with darkness opposed to having a sure belief that he will.
