Muse Profile: Meilin Lee
Tumblr media
“We’ve all got an inner beast. We’ve all got a messy, loud, weird part of ourselves hidden away. And a lot of us never let it out. But I did.”
Fandom: Pixar/Turning Red
Bio: Meilin Lee was an ordinary preteen, a Chinese-Canadian attending school in Toronto that balanced extracurricular activities, getting good grades, helping her mother with taking care of their shrine, and having fun with her friends. However, her simply, if busy, life changed upon waking up one faithful morning after a horrible nightmare.
Waking up to find she had turned into a giant red panda, she soon discovered that it was a running blessing-turned-inconvenience in the girls in her family since ancient times. Although initially horrified and confused by it, with the help of her friends she managed to keep it under control and use it to her advantage. And after a certain incident at a concert for her favorite band, 4*TOWN, she has kept her panda and now views it as the blessing it really is.
Mei is a typical preteen: Energetic, confident, dorky, rebellious, and boy crazy. But above all else, she has the burning desire to be herself. To not let anyone control her, especially her parents. Who knows? Perhaps she’ll find out who she’s truly meant to be along the way.
Verses:
V1: embrace the panda-Set during and after the movie, this is normal Mei! Getting used to this giant red panda form of hers, with her friends to help her along the way.
V2: the fearsome werepanda-An AU where Mei is unique among her family for having a panda form in which she completely loses herself and turns feral (like when she attacked Tyler). Everyone else has a normal, controllable panda. However, she works in secret to try to control it, or somehow remove it. Can be located in any time and place!
Anything Else?: Similar to my portrayal of Mirabel, I strongly identify with Mei; however, I am not Chinese. I will do my best to portray her with love and respect. Any anger you have for my portrayal of her is better spent educating me on Chinese culture so I can get things right in the future! Nicely, of course.
