Hi! New here. And I have some stuff to ask from you if that's ok (you seemed the most qualified)
If I'm not wrong, you are a Hindu but a Dalit. What are your thoughts on revision of scriptures? Is it of any help? If not what can be done by us (I'm a Hindu and a Brahmin) to make Hinduism less hostile to Dalits? Cos trust me I have read the scripts and um they are problematic when it comes to this and I find that I can't lie to myself anymore without hindering my journey in faith.
I would love your inputs and am always open to discuss stuff.
All my love 💕
Eh, I wouldn't exactly call myself the "most qualified", I am sure there are other people who have studied these things more extensively and are in a better position to answer these. I am just some gal.
What I can do, is talk about my personal experiences. Like you said, I am a Hindu. I am a Dalit. My relationship with my religion is complex. My faith gave me hope and light when I was at the lowest in my life and it still does. My faith and my beliefs have never really been contingent on any scriptures. Truth be told, I have hardly read any of them. I know they are problematic and the so-called "rules" or "dharma" everyone must abide by are definitely a relic from a bygone era. It doesn't matter to me what the scriptures say, it has never mattered to me. My relationship to my God is highly personal and no text in the world, no so-called "dharma-adhikari" can dictate it.
Does that mean it has always been roses and peaches in my relationship to my religion? Nope. The Uttar Ramayan, for instance, makes me highly uncomfortable as both a woman and a Dalit. I know there are debates about it not being a part of the original Ramayan but well.... It makes me so uncomfortable that, I personally cannot respect Ram as a God anymore. A flawed ruler? Maybe? A God? Nope
So, like I said, I personally don't care much about the scriptures. 'Cause at the end of the day, they are just that- texts on papers.
As to whether I think if revision of texts will help with the currently prevailing discrimination against Dalits, the short answer is no. Long answer? I have spoken about it in more detail (and with a lot more anger and frustration, I guess) here. Advocate for their basic human rights instead. Talk about how practising religious "customs" shouldn't mean that you get to insult someone's basic dignity. Work for changing the present and the future, right now, instead of trying to change the past.
Anyway, I don't think that was very coherent. But I hope I was able to answer some of your questions at least. Thank you for dropping by my askbox <3
EDIT TO ADD: Also, as to make Hinduism less hostile for Dalits, just let them exist in peace? Many Dalits are Hindu, many aren't (you can guess why). When Hindu Dalits want to enter temples and pray to their Gods, just let them? Don't act like a Dalit entering a temple is the end of the world. Don't gatekeep their faith. Just allow them to exist in public places (including temples) in peace

it is appalling how underrepresented awadhi is as a language despite it being such a dominant force in indic literature. Hello? The Tulsidas ramayan sung across this country is in awadhi. Kabir ke dohe? Ras Khan ke poems? Awadhi!
Awadhi literature is being taught in hindi books as hindi literature? Children don't even know of this language. A lot many people instantly assume it to be bhojpuri or bihari when they hear it- but it is distinct from both of those.
No it is not a dialect (boli) of hindi. Awadhi is much older than not just hindi but also Khadiboli- the precursor language of hindi.
Parents in the Awadh region no longer teach their kids this language. Why? Because bollywood has done an awesome job of identifying awadhi with illiteracy, poverty or both in the media space.
Hindi is not the natural language of uttar pradesh. "Hindi belt" sounds like a slur at this point. We have 7 distinct languages here which are dying out. Hindi is not the mother tongue of UP- it is the mother tongue of Delhi and its sub regions.
Awadhi is the language of Awadh- land of Ram.
We have Brajbhasa of Braja, Kannauji, Kauravi in Northern UP, Bagheli and Bundeli in the western borders and Bhojpuri in the south Eastern parts. All of these are older than hindi and its precursor. None of these are dialects of the delhi language so stop treating them as inferior sub languages. They have linguistic history and literature spanning far back in time.
If you are from southern India please be educated. Stop calling us hindi belt ffs- northern region is just as diverse and linguistically rich as your states if not more. UP is not a "bimaru" state either. Also we have no interest in imposing hindi on any state. We are possibly one of the biggest victims of hindi domination ourselves. Our scripts and language is systematically wiped off- not just in the last 75 years though-we have been struggling for a millennium. So please read, read and read more before you fall into stereotypes.

what are the sources on uttar ramayan existence
Too tired to be a free gyani baba, but from what I remember it seems to be a later interpolation and not part of Valmiki’s original. Also, Yudhisthira tells the story of the Ramayana in the Mahabharata but does not mention the Uttarakanda, suggesting it’s a later addition. (Can’t remember the actual source shfhfhhd)

Okay so shlok number ? of chapter 4, book 1
“This Ramayan consists of 24k verses, 500 chapters, 6 books and an endpiece too”
Is the most confusing thing ever.
The 24000 verses are only possible if Uttar Ramayan is considered.
500 chapters are completed as of end of book 6
there are indeed only the first 6 books atrributed to Valmiki
Is the endpiece (uttaram) supposed to be phalshruti or uttar kand?
I feel like the fact that if this was uttar kand that is the uttaram, it could have been mentioned with the other books itself (although, the fact that there was a rhyming potential there in writing it this way, but again so was in writing the phalshruti seperatly) so it can be an interpolation
But the phrases 24k verses (uttar ramayan considered) and 500 chapters (sans uttar ramayan) are at odds with each other.
Yes, there could be the fact that the Shlok was edited later to say 24k verses (I doubt it was edited to say 500 chapters, because there was never any time in the past until recent when Uttar Ramayan was being seperated from Ramayan) , and the endpiece could very well be the phalshruti that is the end of hindu texts, but does anyone have any other views?
I feel like it is how I put it

Sharad Purnima Special: The mission behind Jagadguru Kripalu Ji's Appearance

Sharad Purnima Special: The mission behind Jagadguru Kripalu Ji's Appearance
All of us strive relentlessly for happiness, yet it remains elusive. Meanwhile, there are some souls who have already attained eternal bliss.Freed from personal desires, they focus all their energy and attention in uplifting other souls, both socially and spiritually.
Advertisment
When compassion becomes the guiding light
Driven by compassion, they illuminate our path, teaching us how to attain divine love, serve God, and immerse ourselves in eternal bliss. The exquisite form of divine love is granted by Shri Radha Krishna during the sacred full moon night of Sharad Purnima through the Maharas, as hinted in the Shrimad Bhagwat. This is not to be mistaken for the staged raas performances we often see by children, local groups, or during one of our visits to Vrindavan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMXnhQMFcu8
The blessed night of Jagadguru Kripalu Ji’s birth
Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj appeared on the blessed night of Sharad Purnima in 1922, in the scenic village of Mangarh, near Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. He arrived at the auspicious midnight hour, echoing the very moment when, 5,000 years ago in Vrindavan, Shri Radha Krishna conferred the bliss of Maharas upon souls. This timing was a signal, foreshadowing the divine mission Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj had come to fulfill. Over the next century, Shri Kripalu Ji devoted his life tirelessly, sharing the timeless wisdom of the Vedas with people across India and the world. His mission was to offer a practical path to attain the highest divine bliss. Through thousands of enlightening discourses, he emphasized that true devotion must be performed by the mind, and not merely through physical rituals. Known lovingly as “Shri Maharaj Ji” among his devotees, he taught that performing external rituals alone lead nowhere. Citing the Vedas, Bhagwat, Geeta, Ramayan, and numerous sacred texts, he revealed that Bhakti or devotion, is the simplest path to attain God.
Introducing the Amazing Technique of Roopdhyan
To guide devotees, Shri Maharaj Ji introduced a simple yet powerful meditation technique called ‘Roopdhyan’. This meditation involves visualizing the beautiful form of Shri Radha Krishna through their divine pastimes, names, and virtues. With diligent practice, Roopdhyan intensifies the soul's longing for God, until the devotee feels that he cannot live without God’s divine darshan even for a moment. It is at this point that the Almighty manifests before the devotee, liberating him from the bondage of Maya and granting him a place in Golok, God's eternal abode. Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj authored numerous devotional texts to guide spiritual aspirants in practicing Roopdhyan. His principal composition "Prem Ras Siddhant" addresses the philosophy of Bhakti, offering insights and resolutions to the queries that arise on the spiritual path. "Prem Ras Madira" is a collection of 1,008 exquisite verses set to soulful melodies, offering a host of divine pastimes extremely helpful in growing one’s love for Shri Radha Krishna. His compassion extended beyond spiritual guidance. Shri Maharaj Ji established numerous educational institutions and hospitals that continue to offer world-class services to the poor and needy free of charge. He also founded three significant temples—Prem Mandir in Vrindavan, Bhakti Mandir in Shri Kripalu Dham - Mangarh, and Kirti Mandir in Barsana—each serving as a sanctuary for millions of devotees seeking to deepen their devotion.
Celebrating Jagadguru Kripalu Ji’s 102nd Birth Anniversary
As Sharad Purnima approaches on October 16th, the world celebrates the 102nd birth anniversary of Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj. This momentous occasion will feature a grand Mahaarti, Abhishek, and captivating cultural performances, streamed live on the official YouTube channel of Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj from 9 PM to 1 AM. THE UNTOLD STORY OF RAVAN | A Powerful And Evil Demon King | Is Ravana good or evil?
Hello, friends! Have you read Valmiki's Ramayan?
Even if you haven't you surely know the story.Lord Ram, along with his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman, goes into exile in a forest for 14 years.
While in the forest, Sita gets kidnapped by the demon lord Ravan, in response, Ram sent his peace messengers Angad and Hanuman asking Ravan to free Sita. When Ravan declines, a war breaks out, at the end of which, good triumphs over evil, and Ravan was defeated. Every year we celebrate this. The victory of good over evil. Justice over injustice. Doesn't this seem like a simple story? But this story might not be as simple. Especially if you go through the WhatsApp messages circulating nowadays,or the social media posts, that go against the narrative of Hero Ram versus Villain Ravan. In fact, do you know that there are some temples in our country where Ravan is worshipped? Such as this temple in Madhya Pradesh's Ravangaon. Or the Dashanan Ravan temple in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. Or this temple in the Greater Noida. In Rajasthan's Jodhpur, and even in Andhra Pradesh, you'd find temples devoted to Ravan, where the worshippers chant Jai Lankesh and Jai Ravan Baba. On YouTube. there are poems with millions of views that read as "Yes, I am arrogant, evil, powerful, I, Dashanan, am unyielding and insane. Let the world emulate Ram, I like being Ravan."

If there is any most efficient way to please Hanuman Ji, then it is Hanuman Chalisa followed by the Path (recitation) of Sunderkand. Doing these with reverence and devotion pleases Bajrang Bali, and he rectifies all the troubles of his devotees. The Ramayana shows the virtues of Shri Ram and his efforts. The entire life character of Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram is contained in the Ramcharit Manas composed by Goswami Tulsidas. Although reading each of its chapters is virtuous and will take one closer to Lord Shri Ram, Sundarkand has been considered the best. Sunderkand is a part of Shri Ramcharit Manas, composed by Tulsidas Ji. The great works done by Hanuman Ji have been described in Sunderkand. Sunderkand is the chapter in Ramayana, which focuses on the story of the power and triumph of Hanuman Ji.
youtube
Maharishi Valmiki wrote the entire Ramayana in the Sanskrit language. After that, Tulsidas Ji wrote Ramayana (Shri Ram Charit Manas) in the Awadhi language. Sunderkand is the fifth chapter (kand) of Shri Ram Charit Manas.
Sundarkand describes the departure of Hanuman Ji to Lanka, meeting Vibhishan, meeting Sita and giving her the ring of Shri Ram, the killing of Akshay Kumar, Lanka Dahan, and his return from Lanka. In Sunderkand, Hanuman Ji reaches to the rescue of Mata Sita and provides her with hope of Shri Rama’s long-awaited arrival. The Sunderkand has a special significance for the devotees of Hanuman Ji. By reciting Sunderkand, one gets freedom from fear, strengthening his/her confidence. Those who recite the Sunderkand, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays, get rid from all the diseases, plagues, troubles, and misfortunes and good news starts knocking on the door for them.

Any religious theme song or song related to God is refers to Bhajan which literaly means "sharing". No specific set or rules are describing for Bhajan, it is a free form of singing based on the devotee how they conduct it. According to Hinduism Bhakti, Kirtan and Bhajan all these three are connected with the vedic era specially Samaveda. Semaveda is meant to sing like a musical score which should be heard. The main motive behind conducting this Bhajan Shandya is to receive blessing of God's. Bhajan also helps to maintain possitive environment around one's selves and wish to get all their dreams fulfilled. In this singer sungs the religious song which gives the feeling to connect everyone with the God. Bhajan has been done generally at the evening time which takes max to max 3 to 4 hours. Pooja has been done by the devotee and the first stage and after that Aarti takes place and at last prasad has been distributed at last, with all this we came to the end of the Bhajan

Akhand Ramayana Path is a continuous 24-Hour recital of the entire ‘Shri Ram Charit Manas’ without any break. The entire Shri Ram Charit Manas includes seven chapters i.e., Baalkand, Ayodhyakand, Aranyakand, Kishkindha, Sundarkand, Lankakand and Uttarkand. Each of the chapters depicts different stages in Lord Shri Ram’s life. Performing this Path brings auspiciousness and removes obstacles in one’s life. It is performed with bhajans and kirtan in Lord Shri Ram’s praise and his life teachings for his blessings and peaceful life. ‘Shri Ram Charit Manas’ is an epic historical text that represents Lord Shri Rama’s achievements during his lifetime. Lord Shri Rama is the seventh reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Shri Ram is additionally referred to as ‘Maryada Purushottam’ (“Maryada” translates to “honour and righteousness,” and “Purushottam” translates to “the supreme man”) as he stands for truth, justice, morality and is an ideal example of a perfect son, husband, brother, friend and king. Akhand Ramayan Path praises Lord Shri Rama and his Bhakt Hanuman Ji for his devotion, bravery, and strength. Akhand Ramayan Path is frequently done to find out about Lord Rama’s life and learn and assimilate the characteristics of the supreme person inside ourselves.

happy ram navami :)
So, I debated answering this at all, but screw it, I will.
Anon, I know you meant well and thanks for thinking about me, so please don't blame yourself. However, please don't greet me about Ram Navmi again because I, as both a Dalit and a woman, do not consider Ram as my God. His attitude towards Sita in Uttar Ramayan and his killing of Shambuk makes me deeply uncomfortable.
And before anyone tries to come and patronise me and lecture me about the mythologies (and especially the one about Shambuka), I do not care about your opinion. I have read these stories extensively, questioned my feelings towards them for years and have come to the conclusion that I cannot bring myself to respect such a figure. And if my personal beliefs offend you, well that's not my problem either.
