#Undertale Yellow spoilers

I just finished my playthrough of undertale yellow (started w/neutral, then went no mercy followed by true pacifist for best ending last) and I think the pacifist ending sequence has one of the most powerful “juxstaposition of two sentences” moments I’ve ever felt in any media and idk man. I’m just. Feeling things

Okay you know what I haven’t seen/heard anyone talk about this so I’m putting a read more so I can talk about this

UNDERTALE YELLOW SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

The ending sequence of the true pacifist run was extremely powerful for me, because as I played the game I genuinely started to forget that Clover had to die for UTY to be an actual prequel. Sure, in the back of my head I knew, but even when their fate was staring me in the face as their final decision played out I wanted to deny it, because to be frank, I like happy endings where nobody dies! So I was already really emotional, especially since the game has just spent the last 10 to 20 minutes (depending on how long the final boss takes you) hammering you with feels.

Then right after the line of Flowey trying to get Clover to go to Asgore, calling it their “REAL mission,” we get the line:

“Asgore only needs two more SOULS to shatter the barrier.”

Followed by the gut punch of:

“What a world it would be if I had two whole friends.”

I can’t even put into words how that makes me feel because it just made me FEEL. Even now I’m getting a bit choked up remembering it. The grave reminder that 'only' two more people have to die for everyone to go free, followed immediately by a small, one-off joke line turned into a simple statement on the value of two whole friends. Two people. In theory, comparing the worth of two lives to the entire race of monsters shouldn’t be a question, because the obvious answer is that their sacrifice would be worth it for everyone else. In practice, though, those two people would still be people. And they would make a difference. Not through sacrifice, but through friendship.

I’m losing the thread a bit but the point is that the power of that juxtaposition is going to stay with me for a long time. Just. The power that comes from stating how many lives must end for everyone to be happy, followed by a simple affirmation of the fact that the same amount of friends would make for a better world. Especially as someone who doesn’t have a lot of friends, and doesn’t like to interact with others much, that moment is going to stick with me for a very, very long time.

“What a world it would be if I had two whole friends.”

Such a good line, man.

in that moment, ceroba grieved.

in that moment, clover finally knew a mother's embrace.
