Many birds have UV-reflecting parts. In Red Grouse (Willow Ptarmigan), combs above the eye reflect much brighter in the UV spectrum in females and immatures than in adult males. This is likely because carotenoids, pigments which produce red-colored skin and feathers in many birds, seem to mask UV reflectivity, but read more at Mougeot et al. 2007, which inspired this illustration.

My favorite conspiracy theory that isn't true and also that I made up is that when Dan Povenmire was making Phineas and Ferb in 2007 and was working on figuring out what animal would be battling Dr. Doofenshmirtz he hired a whole bunch of scientists to study obscure and interesting animals that were also cool colors and the scientists found out that platypi glow turquoise under UV light but this news was too amazing to be revealed at this time by the scientific community, and honestly, we were not ready for such knowledge, but Dan was like, 'a turquoise platapus? That's fantastic!' and used it in Phineas and Ferb anyway and that when we finally found out a couple years ago, in like 2022 or something, it was because the scientists knew after Covid this was the knowledge we absolutely needed and told us the amazing news that platypi are turquoise sometimes. There's a 2007 lit review by Langlois in the journal Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology on the topic, so I'm happy to share with bruise anon:
- Blue, green, black, red, etc aren't good indicators of a bruise's age. These colors may all show up for various chemical reasons throughout the healing process. However combined with other observations such as tenderness (the area is painful to touch) they might be of some use.
- The exception is bright yellow, which only shows up when the hemoglobin starts to degrade, producing bilirubin. This may be masked by other colors in the bruise or by darker skin.
- It's not well known when bruises start turning yellow. Some studies have observed as early as 18 hours but on average about 48-72 hours.
- Some factors that might affect the appearance of a bruise include: type of object (fast objects bruise more than slow, squared edges bruise more than rounded edges), location (bony areas such as the face bruise more than the abdomen), age of the victim (most observations on how bruises heal have been done on adults and not children), blood clotting disorders, certain vitamin deficiencies, specific medications, history of injury (repeated bruises in the same location heal faster)
- Recently there have been efforts to use alternative light sources such as UV to detect bruises that might not be visible yet. This has been a really big deal for medical professionals who work with victims of violent crimes

Bit Cobalt, my second resin printed action figure. (The first was Caeli, the turquoise figure in the last few images.) Bit was modeled in Blender and printed with an online service. She's around 12 cm tall, intended as 1/12 scale.
Bit wears her Transformers influence on her sleeve, especially 2007's Animated line. With a little more practice, I'd like to attempt building a transforming robot figure in the future, but I needed to experiment with some joint and material tolerance details first. Another influence was Robot Neoanthropinae Polynian. I really enjoy the design sensibilities of that line, but I found the figures frustrating to handle and pose, so I made it a goal to make these figures at least pose better than my copy of Polynian Roza. I think I more or less succeeded. Bit's eyes are essentially stickers, and the clear elements are UV cured resin added after painting. Most of her joint parts use ABS or wire pegs. Her mid-torso joint is a Hobby Base spherical figure joint similar to Revoltech or Polynian, and her neck joint is a steel ball bearing and some small magnets, allowing for very smooth movement in any axis. The paint is mostly Vallejo and FolkArt acrylic. The Vallejo varnish is mostly holding up so far, but designs with more interaction and potential scraping between parts (read: any transforming robot figure) will probably need some Krylon. Aside from doing a full transforming robot figure, something else I'll work on improving for my next design is the out of the box fit. Bad clearances and tolerances led to a lot of sanding down pegs and shaving out spaces in putting Bit together. I'm deeply indebted to my partner @aprilpowered and my friend WorkbenchManiac, who are respectively far more skilled in character design and modeling, miniatures, and 3D printing than I am, and who were a huge support and a source of feedback and advice along the way.

Blog 2 - The Dreaming Wall - Adhvaith
In 2007, Dr. Scarponi turned a blank wall in a historic square in Milan into a living, breathing canvas for communal expression with an interactive project, the Dreaming Wall. This digital billboard was not merely an art installation; it was an immersive platform for public discussion wherein people could contribute to a collective narrative, exemplifying the ever-fleeting quality of urban thought.
The installation itself showcases the diverse character of the city: By day, it is a blank white canvas; by night, it becomes alive with bright green and beckons passersby into a lively dialogue of art and city life.
Primarily, the Dreaming Wall is meant to be a cultural canvas for a collective expression-an electronic public billboard that brings the advances of technology and chemistry together. When darkness rises, the wall serves as a stage for spontaneous communication. Passersby and other people anywhere in the globe will send messages utilizing text through the Internet, and it materializes live on the wall. The magic is created by computer-controlled UV laser projection interacting with specially engineered glowing panels. The UV light releases the invisible text, only for it to vanish moments later as it is re-absorbed by the wall, symbolizing the transient nature of our thoughts and the subconscious life of a sleeping city.
This transitory character is not merely a technical feat; it serves as a significant political and social commentary in itself. Scarponi's work asks people to think about how public discourse is porous and how plural identities emerge from common yet transient moments of expression. In an age of rapid transformation and digital connectivity, therefore, the Dreaming Wall is a place of meetings that includes voices, all into a collective speak with visual sound, both temporary and profoundly haunting.
Scarponi's Dreaming Wall shows us how public art installations may take down barriers and build a community. The wall merges technologies with meaningful artistic expression, redefining the aesthetics of the city and establishing an ever-alive forum for the exchange of ideas related to politics and society, inviting each single person to contribute to the fast-evolving narrative of the city.

Final Time Based Performance piece.
"I am the disco"
After a group crit with Siobhan and Jodie about ways of capturing perception, i realised that one of the best ways to communicate my passion is through the act of dance itself. I wanted to create a piece that contains the energy and seritonin i feel when i am in a club, dancing with the music and people i love.
For this piece I wanted to become the discoball i have been studying and emulate light and shadows. I wrapped myself in a holographic silver foil, to appear as a sculptured dress. I then used a UV light to capture the shining quality the foil contains and danced in my bathtub. I overlay videos i had taken from club nights and warped the audio to sound to a more synthy and unpredictable. The work of Contemporary dance choreographer Annne Teresa De Keersmaeker influenced this piece. Her view on the act of dancing to express abstract ideas and feelings made me think differently about movement and music. Allowing me to relax into world of detached relaxation. The contrast of her work consisting of blues and classical music with my electronic club dance shows the eevolution of music and genres.
Since these breakthrough pieces, her choreography has been grounded in a rigorous and prolific exploration of the relationship between dance and music. She has created with Rosas a wide-ranging body of work engaging the musical structures and scores of several periods, from early music to contemporary and popular idioms. Her choreographic practice also draws its formal principles from geometry, numerical patterns, the natural world, and social structures to offer a unique perspective on the body’s articulation in space and time.
From 1992 until 2007, Rosas was in residence in the Brussels opera house La Monnaie / De Munt. During this period, De Keersmaeker directed a number of operas and large ensemble pieces that have since been performed by repertoire companies worldwide. In Drumming (1998) and Rain (2001), both with Ictus contemporary music ensemble, complex geometric structures in point and counterpoint, together with the minimal motivic music of Steve Reich, created compelling group choreographies that remain iconic and definitive of Rosas as a dance company. Also during her time at La Monnaie, De Keersmaeker created Toccata (1993) to fugues and sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, whose music has continued to be a recurring thread in her work. Verklärte Nacht (both the 1995 version for fourteen dancers and the 2014 version for three) unfolded De Keersmaeker’s expressionist side, bringing the stormy narrative of Arnold Schönberg’s late romantic string sextet to life. She ventured into theater, text, and interdisciplinary performance with I said I (1999), In real time (2000), Kassandra—speaking in twelve voices (2004), and D’un soir un jour (2006). She highlighted the use of improvisation within choreography in tandem with jazz and Indian music in such pieces as Bitches Brew / Tacoma Narrows (2003, to the music of Miles Davis) and Raga for the Rainy Season / A Love Supreme (2005).
