But he’s a dragon, and you’re his most prized treasure, so it is only natural to him to protect you, right? it can’t be helped. he's got a really good sense of smell, so he can always tell who you’ve been around in the past few hours, but won’t tell you because he's afraid it’ll freak you out. 

(side note: he totally loves your scent and will compliment you on it all the time, like he’ll bury his head in your neck to calm himself down omg)

He trailed off now, a distant look in his eyes as he absentmindedly counted the events he listed on his fingers. When you realized Riddle wouldn't be stopping anytime soon, you couldn't help the sigh that left you, grabbing his attention near instantly.

"Why do you ask, dear rose?"

Realizing your mistake, and not wanting to add to the dorm leader's clearly busy schedule, you wave him off. "Oh, it's nothing important. Forget I asked."

A frown pulled at his lips, and Riddle looked at you with much more intent now, questioning in his eyes.

The way u wrote him was SO cute and endearing but it also felt so real. in terms of future alistair plans, I have a lot lol 😅😅 right now I'm working on a long-form project for him called "king of all birds" that follows his story from learning his brother is going to be executed up through his transformation and probably a little after that too. that one doesn't have a pairing though; I'm using it more as a character study and also because I've always wanted to explore his backstory. the twilight guide gave us so much about him, and yet so little at the same time, since we never see that story actually explored. so now I guess I'm just doing it myself lmao 😅

but I also have ideas for 2-3 more one-shots that would exist in the same universe/timeline as "like real people do," and those would be alistair x reader. they aren't written yet, but I do have at least one of the plots fully fleshed-out, so now I just need to actually sit down and write lmao

I'm also super open to taking requests for him if you have something specific you'd like to see! I'm happy to do headcanon lists and other more miscellaneous stuff as well, since I can often get through those faster than things where I need to construct a plot lmao, but they can also serve as nice ways to explore a character further before I write a longer piece 💕💕

I also want to shout-out @frodoshaggins (I hope it's okay if I tag you here, if not, just let me know and I'll remove it! ☺️☺️) because it's their incredible work that inspired me to start writing for alistair myself!! technically the first time i saw rebels was like... actually when the show was still airing, like in 2015/2016 i wanna say? shockingly i had like zero interest in the show whatsoever at the time. like nothing in the pilot episode was clicking with me, i thought it was boring, i wasn't sure why i was bothering to watch it at the sci-fi club i was at BUT THEN i gave it a second chance... last year, i wanna say? (EDIT: i checked. yeah it's just over a year now of rebels. con rats to me) and something entirely SWITCHED. i had been getting significantly more hyperfixated on star wars (thanks to my bf) and suddenly i was like... charmed by the cast? like idk it felt like such a 180, like yeah still not the most captivating introduction ever but i actually was like "hold on...... let them cook" i. don't think i had been that invested in a show in quite some time. like genuinely my first watchthrough fucking BROKE me dude i was like genuinely so distraught at it being over because i was just so ATTACHED. like idk i love the chemistry the ghost crew has. and some parts hit really close to home with me so i was like haha girl nooo (develops a sickly little attachment to the idea of star wars rebels)

ezra. sorry but he was a little bit just like me in the real. like not my fave in a romantic sense obv (more just like "god he is sooo me") but idk something about him i was so attached to. ezra is my dear sweet boy (and it is why he is my son now) i did get into kanan and hera shortly after. hera just kinda slowly developed bc she actually got to be a developed woman woaugh?!?!?!? and for kanan for some reason it was the episode where he trained sabine in s3. like in the night scene, the way he sounded so in command i was like ermmmm.......yes sir (flushed emoji) plus they're my silly het couple and i wanted IN that relationship STEADFAST (yeah s2/s3 is when it kinda clicked to who i found romantically endearing)

(talked about this a bit in 3 but) i got into it literally four years after it ended LOL but just in time for ahsoka........aka "rebels s5" bc let's be real. it's gonna somewhat be rebels s5 for star wars itself though? like 2007 give or take, through the lego complete saga games, although i never really got into star wars hardcore until high school when i watched the sequel trilogy as it was dropping in theaters (although as a kid i remember sometimes watching the clone wars show when it'd air on tv)

It was another boring day with your boyfriend. Sitting on one of the couches in his office as he robotically filled out paperwork, his pen never stopping even if he was reading over terms of a new contract

It didn't help that it was silent as well, the light scribbling of the pen and the obnoxious ticking of the clock was getting to you. And fast. And no amount of magicam solved your complete and utter boredom.

“Hey Azul” you said, looking up from your phone as his hand was still writing furiously. You heard a faint hum as you made brief eye contact. So quickly that you thought you were just imagining it.

“What’re you gonna do after Night Raven? You gonna stay on land or go back to the sea?”

“Y/n, dear, give me a minute and I can answer your questions later. I need to get these done-“

You ignored him, smiling a little as you scrolled through Ace’s account, seeing all the photos you took with your friends. Your eyes lingered on the picture of when you were underwater, trying to get the photo before Azul's contract was over. Speaks of teal could be seen far in the distance as you could faintly remember the tweels were swimming after you.

you sighed at the memory

“Personally,” you started “I see you staying on land, opening up an actual restaurant with the tweels and making big bucks”

“Y/n can we talk about trivial things later, I need t-“

“Practice for our future wedding?”

“Our what!” His head shot up, face redder than blood as he dropped his pen. Though he wasn't met with your usual lazy grin or sleep-coated eyes. Instead, he was greeted with a soft smile and flushed cheeks.

“Y/n what in twisted wonderland are you talking about-“

“Ah, so you don't wanna marry me?” You sighed, pretending to wipe a tear as you leaned more into the couch, a faux pout on your face.

“What- I- no- I never said that!” You could almost hear the panic in his voice as you chuckled, swinging your legs to give you a boost up.

And by now, Azul was hiding his face behind a gloved hand, a single orb of blue watching your every move as you strolled up to his desk. Placing your hands on it lightly as you lowered yourself to his level, a Cheshire grin on your lips.

“So you do want to marry me”

“I didn't say that either”

“So you do” you gasped, bringing your hand to your mouth to hide your ‘shock’.

“Y/n” he groaned, only earning another hum from you as you dragged your hand across his desk, avoiding the pile of papers that littered it as well as his little trinkets.

“Here” you rounded the table, putting your hands on his shoulders as you leaned your head against his

“Since you seem to be so nervous about marriage, let’s practice okay?”

Before he was able to respond, you gently pull his chair from the desk. The muted sliding from the carpet was all you hated as when he was far enough away from the table, you Softly pulled him up, your hands in his as you kept your eyes on him.

“Do you, y/n l/n take Azul Ashengrotto as your lawfully something husband” you mimicked with an awful impression. Responding to your question with a ‘yes’

“Now, do you Azul Ashengrotto, do you take y/n as your lawfully something partner?” You continued smiling, eyes picking apart very nock and cranky of his dumb-founded face. His eyes staring straight ahead, unblinking.

And truthfully, nothing was going on in his mind. His usual witty comeback came to a fast haunt and his business smirk was only a jarred gape. Everything was too fast for him, too much for him to process.

it Was a rare time that the Azul Ashengrotto was rendered speechless, let alone looking the part as only his eyes were able to move. Looking back and forth between you and the door.

slowly, you became to run your finger along the inside of his palm as his eyes snapped back to yours, mouth still open as you you whispered "line?"

"What do you mean line?" He asked hesitantly

"You either say yes or no Azul"

"I- I'm aware of that y/n" he cleared his throat hands retracting from yours.

"But what are you doing?"

You grabbed his hands tighter so he wouldn't escape. Sensing that he finally came to his senses, his brows furrowed as he frowned.

"We’re practicing silly. For our wedding, don't you know what a wedding is?"

"Of course I- of course, I know what a wedding is y/n- I just don't see why we must practice for it."

" 'Cause"

"... ‘Cause?"

"yep. That's it. 'Cause" you shrugged.

though you couldn't help the smile on your face grow bigger as you could see him growing more and more distressed. And at times like these, he was glad he was wearing gloves as he was sure that you'd feel how sweaty his palms were. How the fabric of his black gloves was becoming itchier and tighter. They almost felt like Floyd's ‘hugs’.

"Cant I pretend to get married to my boyfriend?" You teased

Slowly letting go of your hands, his gloved traveled up your arms, around your elbows, to your shoulders. He pulled you back slightly, sighing as his deadpan face met yours.

"was this some ploy to get me to pay tension to you?"

“..maybe”

He nodded slowly, eyes lowering as he once again moved his hands from yours, this time with a little more force "… I see”

A shock stabbed through your brain as you instinctively grabbed his hands.

“Y/n, please y-“

“You never said yes” you whispered, lowering your head to meet his downcast eyes.

"I needn't to as it's just us practicing"

"and practice makes perfect, yes?” You interrupted, Azul's head finally looked up.

He sighed, pulling you closer into a hug, resting his head on yours as he mumbled “why would you want to marry me? I don't see how it’s beneficial towards you.” He said something about it ‘not even being real in a softer voice as you just huffed.

“Cause “

“Cause?”

You hummed in acknowledgment, hugging him tighter as you brought your head out of his neck to look him in the eye.

“Cause- you're you, and what other reason do I have than that?”

Azul was many things. Cunning, mischievous, jack of all trades. But that was merely a front. A facade he wore in front of others, in front of himself to convince the world that he was tough, had vulgar, and wouldn't take anything from anyone.

Yet there was a part of him that you were privileged to, that the tweels had grown with; a shy, clumsy boy who had his heartbroken and pride thorn to shreds as he was relentlessly bullied as a child, isolated and abandoned for something so trivial as his looks.

And he'd never told you any of this, he didn't have to as you noticed how skittish and withdrawn he was at the beginning of your relationship. Or how the twins cornered you when you accepted Azul's 'request for a date.

Plus Floyd has no boundaries and a loose tongue

Shushing him with your finger, your arms slithered to the small of his back as you stepped closer. Make sure to keep eye contact with the restaurant owner as you felt him relax into your hold.

"Azul... I'll always love you- and even if this is practice, I do intend for us to practice until we get it so memorized that we'll be saying vows in our sleep."

his arms hesitantly wrapped around your waist. His hands lock themselves around you securely.

"...And I too wish that one day, when we are both older that we'll be able to do it for real, that we'll be able to promise eternity to each other... to you..."

"All you have to do is say yes right now" you slurred, leaning closer as you felt the tip of his burning nose on yours.

“Why not just try again?- y/n l/n, do you take I, Azul Ashengrotto to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

“I do.”

You smiled as you stared into his eyes for just a little longer. Just a little longer until you'd have to stop and step away from this bubble you've created for yourselves and yourselves only. One where the tedious ticking of the clock, nor the outside clatter of the restaurant could penetrate. Just one where you both were.

“And Azul Ashengrotto, do you take me, y/n l/n, to be your lawfully wedded partner?” You asked, recalling the last word to make it a true practice.

“ I do”

Untangling your arms from around his waist, your fingertips trailed the back of his grey blazer. The slight shudder did nothing to loosen his hold or concentration as you finally made your way to his neck. Pushing his head forward as you kissed him.

All the unspoken words he was never to utter, all the touches he retraced from, all the feelings he's kept trapped inside, locked up and imprisoned on the bottom of the ocean to never see the light of day, slowly rising to the surface.

Like bubbles, they were melting into his heart and soul, only for you, and you only to see.

a week had passed since that night. Valentine's Day was finally here as you were ripped from your class by the twins and escorted to the lounge where Azul was.

And despite all previous efforts, they weren't going to say what for. Only claiming that 'you'll just ruin the surprise by asking too many questions.'

You were growing annoyed as you rounded the corner to the entrance of the restaurant.

The twins opened the doors like trained butlers as there, in the center of the lounge standing in front of a table that was draped with a crimson red clothe decorated with candles and plants.

"Y/n, I'm so glad you were able to make it" he smiled as the twins ushered you inside. Never moving an inch as you looked around the restaurant, noticing the Valentine's Day theme they had going on. With hearts and streamers plastered everywhere. You were about to comment about how... charming the place looked when the closing of the door made you realize you were all alone.

And looking back, you only confirmed your thought as you saw zero traces of the twins. It was like they were never even there.

"Now getting straight to the chase as I am a busy man," you

You snapped your head to see him leaving the table alone, as he started walking towards you. His cane nowhere in sight as he kept his arms glued to his back

“You had me thinking last week about our little” he cleared his throat “session. And I felt a bit bad about not saying yes the first time and if I made you uncomfortable-"

"not at all" you interrupted, frowning at his strange behavior. But he simply ignored you as his businessman smile came on.

"And how that must have felt even if I did say yes the second time."

"and so". he stopped five feet in front of you. Now able to notice the bead of sweat that trailed down his forehead and neck. How he tensed at the feeling of wanting to do something about that rouge sweat bead. But he kept himself intact.

"And I won't lie to you, but I do cringe about the things I said as they were in the moment. But I don't wish to take them back, meaning every word of what I said to you... which is why I'd like to make you a promise"

he spoke as his hands came from b3ehind his back as he held his two closed fists in front of you. Almost telling you to choose one.

touching his left palm, he turned his wrist and opened it to reveal a skinny, silver band. A small, brilliant sapphire acting as a king's crown laid upon it. He opened his right one to show nothing. Your eyes darting to meet his in surmised as he merely smirked

You couldn't stop the gasp that escaped you as you covered your mouth in shock. Azul gently takes your left hand into his gloved one. His eyes only left your finger to meet yours, it was like he was silently asking for permission.

Nodding, he directed his attention back to your finger as he slipped the band on slowly, relishingly.

"See, I knew you'd pick that hand" he couldn't help but comment.

"Is that..."

"A promise ring." He took off his left glove to show the matching pair for a second, before slipping it back on.

"It's a promise that after NRC, after everything that we'll find each other, and commit to the promise we made last week. That we'll get married..."

You snorted at a sudden thought, ignoring your 'fiancé's offended look as you asked amused

“So it's like a contract?”

“Precisely”

A devilish smile took over his lips as the doors opened again to reveal two grinning eels. Encasing your hands in his, he couldn't help but milk the situation.

"Since you brought that up, and I know how clumsy you are with things- especially jewelry, how about we make a contract as well? Just to be sure"

“Well, if you insist"”

I saw scara approaching me from the corner of my eye, i frowned letting out a sigh i didn't even know I was holding. He cleared his throat, trying to catch my attention. I groaned reluctantly turning around to face him "do you need something?" I asked, raising my eyebrow, He scoffed, unhappy with the tone i used.

He muttered something incoherent, but it made his face glow with different shades of red "i didn't catch that, do you mind repeating it?" My tone softened, i crossed my arms over my chest, patiently waiting for his response.

Scara started to become frustrated, unsure if i was doing this on purpose to piss him off. He took a deep breath, furrowing his eyebrows.

"I said,...I'm sorry." He breathed out, his hand covering his red face. I blinked a couple times, still processing what the former fatui harbinger just said to me, he's sorry? That's something new. Something good.

I chuckled, to which he gave me a confused look in return, "well?" He spat out. Suddenly i embraced his slender figure close to me, it was clear he wasn't expecting that. After a few moments which felt like an eternity, he finally wrapped his arms around my waist, leaning in closer to the cook of my neck, and smiled.

everything's been alright luckily ty for asking! a little bit Stressed because of uni in general, but nothing to worry about :") just the usual time-consuming aspect of uni and finals which are just around the corner where i live (between last weeks of november and the first one of december) . luckily after that i dont have classes until march so i have plently of time to rest and go back to full time drawing during the holidays :D 💖 (and being more active on tumblr as well bc i feel like im barely here 😭🙏) i still try to draw some small things between uni stuff whenever i have the time and energy though ! i have some doodles ive been making these weeks so i may upload them here sometime soon ,,,
