(Heaven on Earth)
Kashmir is the delicate reminder of the fact that poetry not always need pages and words. When the pages are torn and ink is faded, the living poetry can be felt through heartbeats and emotions

Travelogue
Art Of Me
She made art of me
She made my day
The spanish way
People came to see
The art of me
The disagree
Between you and I-
Can never walk
Nor even talk
I′m bound to hang
On this masterpiece
I'll never find
Within my mind, …ind, …ind
I was just a boy
She acted like decoy
And I became her toy
After shaking hands
Captured by the glance
Impressed by all the fans
By all the fans, by all the fans, by all the fans
I had never felt so weird before
When she left me hanging on the wall
All the love she gave to me came through her hands
All the love she gave to me came through her hands
Oh I had a lovely woman back in all the early days
But I was crying she sailed away left the day
I found another on the train but she was in a haze
She had lost everything that she had earned on her lays
I got a job in a cafe behind the bar
But I was fired, took it all too far, too far
Too much hip
Got the pink slip
Bought myself a razor
Cut off the red feb
Started jogging the next day
Just to get in a good shape
Looked at the trees, looked at the good babes
The good babes they were everywhere
But there was only one that I really wanted to get near, get near
She put me on a wheel-barrow
Drove me to the gate
Could not escape
Much too late
The gate was real narrow
So she carried me home, carried me home, carried me home
Songwriter: Henry Mancini
I had never felt so weird before
When she left me hanging on the wall
All the love she gave to me came through her hands
All the love she gave to me came through her hands

Letter from Kashmir
It’s surprising how all the proper names I remember from my Kashmir trip are from an adventure to the floating post office.  The adventure began with me trotting down the airport road in Hyder Pora as fast as the four layers of clothing allowed me. I’d enquired at the reception of my hotel, Heritage Luxury, the previous night. The best way to reach Dal Lake was to hire an auto rickshaw at a…

Methwani Meadow – Hidden Jewel in the Heart of Kashmir
I have travelled through various well-known and well-liked meadows and have written travelogues about them, but today I will discuss one of the secret meadows in the Shopian district, which is close to the main town. a meadow in the middle of the Shopian forest block. Rambi-Ara river divides this meadow from Hirpora Wildlife Sanctuary and Mughal Road.
Tumblr media
This hidden paradise is located in Shopian’s forest block, and it is where the local Bakerwal population spends the summers to gaze their cattle and other livestock. Methwani is located in the middle of the Padro Meadow, Dubgan Spring, and Hirpora Wildlife Sanctuary. This captivating location is surrounded by a number of secret meadows, some of which include Amakhal Meadow, Shepkhor Meadow, Walaikhaini Meadow, Poen Meadow, etc.
Tumblr media
The Sunset Peak, also known as Romesh Thong, is a mountain massif with a peak elevation of 4,745 metres (15,568 feet), and Methwani Meadow is the prime location for those looking to summit it. Although the Budgam side is the most well-known path or hike to Sunset Peak, one can also reach the peak through Shopian and the gorgeous Methwani meadow.
How to plan a trip to Methwani Meadow
For any trek, preparation and planning are essential. This trek takes the same preparation as the others I’ve done. I’ve covered everything that has to be packed and planned before the trip for the purpose of this essay. I have thoroughly addressed every topic in this post, so read it through from beginning to end.
How to reach Methwani Meadow
Methwani meadow is 16 Kms from Shopian town. There are several ways to get there, but the one we took is the finest one, so I’ll mention it here.
At 11 a.m., we left the town of Shopian and travelled west. After crossing the District Police Line Shopian, we arrived in the village of Zawoora after travelling almost two kilometres. We then turned left and continued travelling for another 5 kilometres until we arrived in Niki Chanchmarg. Following that, we passed by Badrahama village, and at last, we arrived in Sarabal village, where we parked our bikes and went on foot. To learn more please visit:

There are two phases of enjoyment in journeying through an unknown country - the eager phase of wondering interest in every detail, and the relaxed phase when one feels no longer an observer of the exotic, but a participator in the rhythm of daily life.
- Dervla Murphy
There are few better literary gatherings than the Immrama Travel Writing festival in Lismore, County Waterford. Huddled quietly on the banks of the River Blackwater at the base of the Knockmealdown Mountains, Lismore is a scenic enough spot but on the face of it an unlikely magnet for the global travel writing community. Yet for two decades a string of stellar travellers including Michael Palin, Jan Morris, Paul Theroux, Kate Adie, Ranulph Fiennes, Terry Waite and Pico Iyer have made pilgrimages to this small rural town three hours south-west of Dublin to share their stories.
What draws notable itinerants from around the world to this rural backwater on the fringe of Europe is the special status it holds for writers and lovers of travel literature. Lismore was the hometown of the remarkable Dervla Murphy, who died on 22 May 2022 at the age of 90.
Here are six must-read books by one of Ireland’s greatest travel writers and explorers. They are all in print and currently available from Eland Publishing, one of my favourite publishing houses of travel writers and explorers, past and present.
1. Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle (1965) Dervla’s debut recounts an epic ride to India. Setting out from Lismore in 1963, she travelled via Europe, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan on her trusty bicycle, named Roz, facing 50ft snowdrifts in the Turkish highlands and some punishing pedalling through the heat of the Himalayan summer.
2. Where the Indus Is Young (1977) A vivid travelogue detailing Dervla’s somewhat extreme winter hiking trip through Baltistan, in the northern Kashmir region, battling temperatures that dipped to minus 20C. She was accompanied by her daughter, Rachel, then aged six; the only person Dervla ever deigned to travel with.
3. A Place Apart (1978) At the height of the Troubles, aiming to put aside the sectarian loyalties that might have come from her own family connections to the IRA, Dervla cycled to Northern Ireland to try to unpick the situation, creating a travelogue that features revealing interviews and exchanges with locals on both sides of the divide.
4. Wheels Within Wheels (1979) In the autobiography that followed seven travel books, Dervla notes: “Even at 16, I had a strong premonition that I would never marry. Possibly the predictability of the average marriage put me off; it was the antithesis of my ideal unplanned existence - travelling, writing, not knowing what was going to happen next year or next month or even next week.”
5. Through Siberia by Accident (2006) Due to a painful leg injury, Dervla had to rethink her planned trip to Ussuriland, a Russian outpost free of anything remotely touristic, to explore the vast territories of Siberia instead. There she found humbling hospitality and generosity from local hosts during a journey of self-discovery and contradiction - human warmth and kindness against a bleak, unforgiving backdrop.
6. A Month by the Sea: Encounters in Gaza (2013) Over the summer of 2011, in her 80th year, Dervla spent a month in the Gaza Strip in Palestine. Described by Irish novelist Colm Tóibín as a “a wake-up call to the world”, Dervla’s determination to understand how Arab Palestinians and Israeli Jews might find resolution gives voice to those rarely heard in the region and offers a unique insight into a place shaped by isolation.

💻 (I know you’ve done some DEEP medical dives!)
For this ask game.
💻- Do you do research for your fics? What's the deepest dive you've ever done?
Oh BOY. One of the downsides of ADHD+Autism is the time blindness AND experience amnesia. I'll not realize how much time is passing while I do something, and then later just...forget it ever happened. So some research is lost to that fog.
But biggest things have been the tumor/recovery research for FO, which I spent weeks on; the Jammu & Kashmir area in India for Dev's maternal grandparents; and amputation research for other fics.
Those in particular involved hours of reading blogs, articles, medical journals, travelogues, watching videos (of regions or surgeries), crawling through google image searches or maps. I ended up reading about history and food culture, finding recipes, and studying weather data over a period of years and seasons for decades I needed in J&K.
For the medical stuff, I watched teaching videos of different surgical techniques, different approaches and equipment, read papers about methodology and recovery management/outcomes, studied scans, read treatment approaches for emergency field medicine, emergency department medicine, and scheduled procedures. At one point I even watched videos of aneurysm and arterial repair for worst case scenarios. I wanted to know, while writing, what characters would be aware of as risks and not just what I wanted to happen.
It's hard to say which is the deepest though, because sometimes I'll pause the "adding more words" part of writing and spend three or four days obsessively researching something that ends up as a single line...and then later forget how much time I poured into that one thing 😂
