#Toshiro isn't one of my faves but the takes I'm seeing about him are making me go TOSHIRO GET BEHIND ME

Cutting the scene that explains ressurrections in the setting from the anime did incalculable damage not only to the worldbuilding but to the whole reason Shuro was pissed off at Laios and the party's flippancy at using dark magic to bring Falin back.

For the Fic Writer Ask Meme! :)

Fanfic asks
3.What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
Surprisingly, this was hard to choose. So I will cheat and give a top 5 that could take my place as being my fave fic I've written:
As Months Go By, As Seasons Change I & II: this isn't bias talking here, I genuinely love how these turned out. I feel like everything I wanted to write about the Shinji and Momo dynamic has been written here, and it was just so much fun to work on as a whole.
Under the Snowfall: ah, the old days. I picked this one because I distinctly remember writing the middle part. I remember coming to a crossroad about where the fic would go. I set out to make a fic about an older Toshiro and Momo having a quiet moment under the snowfall, but then came the idea of Toshiro proposing. I could continue down this dozy fic, or I could add a surprise. Going with the latter, I loved how it turned out. The response to this one also surprised me, and I couldn't help but grin at comments that said they were surprised by the proposal.
Amongst the Ruins: it's my favourite take I've done on Momo seeing Toshiro's Completed Form. I wanted there to be a bunch of fluff, and for Momo to see this power she unknowingly inspired. I'm still surprised by the number of notes it has, but of course I absolutely appreciate every single like, reblog, and comment!
On the Shoreline: it's probably because I recently wrote it, but I keep thinking about this fic. I relive moments from it, and I've ended up very please with how it turned out. The response has also been beautiful, [I've been meaning to reply to your commentary] thank you to everyone who has commented, liked, and reblogged this one!
The True Will Reprised: I can't explain this one...okay, I can, but it's weird. I think about this one sometimes, whether it's a scene from it or a line. I really enjoyed writing this one, and it's one of my first forays into writing action scenes for Momo. For whatever reason, this one felt epic to write, like I was writing this big action scene with emotional and tense moments. To be honest, Ionce hoped this one got more attention (how can you resist the angst of Toshiro forced to fight Momo?!) XD. However, I'm grateful for all the notes it has gotten, and because of this fic, I've gotten the confidence to write more action for Momo!
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
Turning my reconciliation of Toshiro and Momo headcanons into a fic. I kid, it's still on the cards, but it'd be an ambitious and ongoing project.
I surprise myself with how often I actually write out my fic ideas, so it's not often I ignore one or decide to not write a fic for it. One of those few ideas was a story featuring Orihime and Toshiro sometime during either the Arrancar arc (Advanced team here we come!) of the Full Bringer arc. I've always liked their friendship and wish there was more content of it. Orihime is a naturally empathetic person who could probably get Toshiro to like her for that reason alone. I can see him being softer around her, able to speak with her a bit more freely than he normally does. In the fic, they end up discussing their traumas and troubles with their love interests, wih each taking something away from the interaction: Orihim to be more assertive with Ichigo, and Toshiro to not be afraid to be by Momo's side.
I won't ever write this though because while I love seeing content for this brotp, I have no clue where to start writing for a fic involving them. In the end, this is why i gave you the prompt to write, and I got D O N K I as a result, so in the end I felt like I won! XD
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
There's a few things I've learned about along the way, but the first that comes to mind is food-related topics. I've tried to include various Japanese dishes and snacks that I imagine the Soul Society would have. For instance, I researched what sweets and baked goods are common to give to a close friend, and this is what was included in A Part of You, Where Momo gets Toshiro try various sweet snacks, including:
Siberia cake: a sponge cake with a sweet bean jelly filling.
Chinsuko: it’s like a shortbread biscuit, made form lard and flour with a mild and sweet flavor. A friend of mine brought these back from Japan as a gift once.
Kusa mochi: a sweet mixed with the leaves of the mugwort plant.
Botamochi: a sweet mixed with red bean paste. It’s traditionally made during spring and autumn/fall.
Ichigo daifuku: a sweet with a redbean paste filling and a strawberry stuffed in the middle.
There were others I thought to include, such as various daifuku flavours, but I had to keep it short and sweet (no pun intended) to keep that particular plot going.
More recently, I've been researching various eateries and types of Japanese restaurants for a request fic. These include:
Kaitenzushi: basically what many in the West refer to as a sushi train. It's generally seen as a lunch or quick dinner.
Izakaya: a pub like place that mainly caters towards adults. It's customary to receive a compulsory appetizer (known as an otoshi is Tokyo) and it's charged to your bill. You first order a beer or alcoholic beverage and gradually pub style food to share with everyone at the table like yakitori, various grilled meats, etc. It's an informal and pretty casual place to go with friend or cowrokers after work.
Shokudo: small casual restaurants that typically independently owned and serve only Japanese style food likes curries, noodle dishes, and rice dishes. At times you have the choice of their dining at either tables and chairs or on lower table on a tatami floor.
Kissaten: a cafe or tearoom that typically services salads, sweets, and sandwiches along with tea and coffee. They're typically seen as quiet places and as somewhere one would go to get breakfast on the go. They can also be part of popular food chains like Starbucks.
Yatai: food carts and mobile stalls that typically sell oden, ramen, and yakitori. They can also come with a tent with tables and chairs for customers to sit under while they eat. They were big during Meiji period, but in modern times are not as prevalent.
There's a good summary of the different types of restaurants here.
In addition to finding out what a typical menu would include and what customs are involved in going to these places, I've even tried to find out if it's typical for customers to be served by waiting staff or if it's self-serve! XD
For the request fic, I finally found a type of restaurant that works, you'll see which one I chose when I post it ;)
On a separate note, in response to your lovely comment: Sending you good writing vibes! But I think you should DEFINITELY take a request break! I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that I send in requests as (fully optional) enticements/inspirations, not assignments. I feel like you can take as long as you want, do them only when they’re working for you and the words come easy (or at least if they come hard, fun-hard), and perhaps not do them at all if they don’t work out!! <33333
Thank you for this, I think I needed to hear it. I still aim to write your request and the other two still waiting in my inbox before year's end (hopefully sooner than that though ^^; ).
Thanks for sending these in! :D
