My 5 Favorite Legal J-Dramas

I love them because they have perfect balance of seriousness and humour, not too dark and not too comedic. And the chemistry of the main leads are fun to watch with their constant bickering. 😂

1. Hero (2001)

Kuryu (Kimura Takuya) is an unconventional prosecutor who has a habit of investigating the criminals himself before prosecuting, which agitates his paralegal, Amamiya (Matsu Takako) has it delays the process while more cases are piling up, and often conflicts with the police who thinks he does not trust their investigation skills.

The series is so good that it has a second season with a newcomer played by Keiko Kitagawa, a special episode with Haruka Ayase and a movie with both Keiko Kitagawa and Matsu Takako. I like their chemistry, not just between the main leads but the supporting characters as well that got pulled into Kimura Takuya's shenanigans.

2. Miss Justice (2018)

A similar tale of a public prosecutor, Ririko (Yoshitaka Yuriko) whose strong sense of justice get in her daily work as she takes time to solve each cases diligently, playing the role of a "detective" to ascertain that the suspects are really guilty before she prosecutes them. However, it only delays her other cases which snowballs.

This agitates her older and experienced paralegal (Yasuda Ken) who is tasked to ensure she completes each task on time without delay. But over time, both him and the entire department who got pulled into her shenanigans finally understands her reasoning and begin to respect her as a fellow prosecutor and not as a newbie.

3. Police and Prosecutor (2023)

Gota (Kiritani Kenta) and Minami (Higa Manami) are siblings who work as a law enforcer and a paralegal respectively. She works for an ambitious public prosecutor, Shuhei (Higashide Masahiro) whose values and principles are opposite of Gota, which often puts them at odds with one another when they work together on every case.

While Minami and Shuhei know the grey world in their line of work, Gota is a brash detective who only sees thing in black and white which often puts them at odds with one another. But their opposing personalities and styles of work eventually help to solve the cases in arresting and prosecuting the right criminal.

4. Ishiko and Haneo (2022)

Ishiko (Kasumi Arimura) is an obstinate law graduate who aspired to be a lawyer but after failing the bar four times, she gives up her dreams and works as a paralegal at her father's private law firm where she met the prodigy Haneo (Nakamura Tomoya) who passed the bar on first attempt due to his photographic memory.

Ishiko is a bit insecure in having to work with a prodigy while Haneo is actually terrible at adapting that he often mask it with his "superior intellectual". Their different personalities and styles of working contradict each other as the two of them, with their own inferiority complexes, are thrown together to solve cases.

5. Binta : Love and Law (2022)

Minowa (Matsumoto Toshio) is a former delinquent who doesn't have a regular job and never really thought seriously about life until he had to look after his young step-sister left behind by his late father. He lands a job as clerk, working for a strong headed lawyer, Natsumi (Yamaguchi Sayaka) who is dumbfounded by his "stupidity".

But his strong sense of justice is a welcoming change that she needed having work in a corporate law firm surrounded by "vultures" that the two decided to start their own private firm to genuinely help people that really need help and not simply for the big money. But with each case, they realize things are not as simple as they think.

My guess on the next shuffle

Since the tsukisuta was announced to be on the 28th + the shuffle members will be announced on the 27th, and i've been thinking about this since EVIL NUM+

To start things out, the guest for the upcoming tsukisuta is Yamaguchi Tomohiro (Niki's VA), so he's most likely a 5*, which was expected to some extent.

This early in the rotation, it's not realistic to guess the rest of the lineup, though. It's not straightforward, and 4piece adds a piece of uncertainty to this, but I have to start somewhere.

Obvious considerations

Niki won't be in a shuffle with other Crazy:B members;

Neither will he be paired with members of previous shuffles;

Idols already featured in the current rotation shouldn't be getting another card before the rotation is finished;

Characters who didn't get a 5* in the previous rotation are more likely to get one this time;

If a character got a 5* already, they should be featured as a 4* for this rotation.

Which means the following idols won't be featured in the upcoming shuffle: Hokuto, Chiaki, Mitsuru, Hajime, Hinata, Rinne, Himeru, Kohaku, Kaoru, Natsume or Ritsu.

This is as solid as it goes, honestly. The rest is pure speculation, based on what sounds more or less likely.

Previous shuffle rotation

This is still the second shuffle of the rotation, so there's not much to discuss surrounding it, we only have EVIL NUM+ so far, so it's not like I can just do this based on elimination alone.

So a good place to start out is the previous rotation, to see if it's possible to notice any patterns.

Just in case it needs to be remembered, the shuffles were:

I'm not sure, to be honest, so let's keep it simple and look at dates, though I wouldn't say I expect to find out relevant information based on this alone.

The dates are more or less consistent, but this doesn't mean much, as expected.

My hopes with this was to hopefully find out that they try not doing two consecutive shuffles featuring idols of the same unit, but this theory didn't stand to the test, since the first two shuffles had Crazy:B and Ra*bits members in their lineups.

Turns out most units feel grouped when you look at them like this. Though you could argue some of them were forgotten for a while.

Still, one thing that didn't happen, though, was featuring idols of the same unit as 5* cards for consecutive shuffles, so maybe (we hope) it's safe to rule out Trickstar & Switch, at least for a 5*.

They can still be in this shuffle, but will be a 4*, if that's the case. I'm just eliminating them because it's not like I can guess the entire lineup anyway.

Now that it came to this, and it's mostly giving clues about what would be more likely for a 5*, it's reasonable to rule out all the idols who got a 5* card, if they weren't yet: Wataru, Tori, Midori, Tatsumi, Aira, Hiyori, Shu, Rei, Tomoya, Kuro, Izumi & Madara.

Events/Scouts

Let's take a look at events, why not. Sure, happy elements doesn't really care if a character is due, but they're not going to give the same character two events with a short gap in between. Again, at least not two 5* cards. Can they do it? Yes. But why would they? When you have 54 characters to choose from, it just doesn't add up.

So, what was the shortest gap? From what I've gathered:

Natsume: 121

Kohaku/Tsukasa: 167

Hinata: 212

Kohaku: 214

Kohaku: 257

The idols who got events in the last four months: Tetora, Hiiro, Adonis & Leo.

Now, for scouts... the shortest gap was under 60 days, I believe. If it wasn't, then it was general. Remembering things is hard, but I'm working with what I got at the moment. This isn't that serious, I don't need to look it up.

But yes... it's not possible to rule out many idols here, since this is such a short period.

Anyway, the idols who got a scout 5* in the last 2 months were: Eichi, Ibara, Yuuta, Souma & Tsukasa.

"How many are left at this point, Linen?", you may ask. Well... 16.

Is there anything else to look at? I'm not sure. Being very honest, here. I know there is someone keeping track of how due a character is considering when they last got a 4* too. Makes sense, but I wouldn't say it's strong evidence to rule out Shinobu and Mika here because they got a 4* somewhat recently. The same applies to 4piece, since they're slowly but surely getting 4* cards as VS takes place.

Sure, the logic I used here has its flaws: Niki's VA being featured in the tsukisuta as a guest makes it very solid that he's the event 5*. So characters featured in events during the last 4 months can actually still get a 5* now, because they would be scout ones. It would be especially painful for AdonisPs, but could it happen? Yes. That's the situation for Tetora, Hiiro, Adonis & Leo. Lower chances of being the other 5* because they're not due, but that could definitely be the outcome.

Past combos

Because shuffles are a great opportunity to experience something new.

What do I mean, though?

So... Niki only got a tour so far. But he was paired with Nazuna, so it would be a bit repetitive if he got another event where the other 5* happened to be Nazuna. No songs for most tours, however... this scenario is yet to repeat itself, so I'm guessing it's safe to assume they're avoiding it.

Can the same be said for things like covers and fusion live? I'd say no, because no one got a 5* for these. And it's questionable if it means something if two units got a song together once or twice.

But okay, let's check this.

The covers were:

If you don't look too closely, you can say no shuffle 5* duo coincides with these. But I'd still take it with a grain of salt. I guess it just makes it more unlikely for Niki to be paired with Koga. Since they theoretically have a song together, despite the fact there were other 6 people there with them.

Yuuta was rightfully ruled out already, so it just doesn't say anything, but, for the sake of it, I verified this and, basically: these combos aren't seen in any of the shuffles we currently have. Again, that is only true for 5* combos. Since, you know... Midori and Leo were in the same shuffle, for example.

Conclusion

There isn't one, actually. But if you need this information summarized, then I'll give you that.

Niki's VA was announced as the guest for the next tsukisuta, and they revealed that the next event will be a shuffle. Adding the two tells you Niki should be the event 5*, and the information I gathered during this post are:

Rinne, Himeru and Kohaku won't be in the lineup because they're also Crazy:B members;

Natsume, Hokuto, Hinata, Hajime and Ritsu aren't going to be in the lineup because they were already featured in EVIL NUM+;

Kaoru, Chiaki and Mitsuru shouldn't be in this shuffle because Niki was in a unit with them in the first rotation;

Izumi, Makoto, Tori, Aira, Midori, Mao, Hiyori, Tatsumi, Rei, Wataru, Kuro, Madara, Tsumugi, Shu, Rinne and Tomoya can be a 4*, but not the other 5* because they already got one in the previous rotation;

Subaru and Sora can't be a 5* for this shuffle because a member of their unit was a 5* in the last shuffle event, but can still be featured as 4* cards;

Other idols from units of the members of EVIL NUM+ may still be part of this lineup, as a 4* or a 5*;

Ibara, Yuuta, Eichi and Tsukasa can't be the other 5* if Niki is indeed event, because they got a scout 5* in under 60 days;

Assuming Niki is actually a scout card, Tetora, Hiiro, Adonis and Leo shouldn't be the event 5* because their last event card was released in under 120 days;

Nazuna is unlikely to be the other 5* because he was paired with Niki in their tour;

Koga and Adonis may not be a priority for 5* this time because Crazy:B and UNDEAD have a cover song together.

I may have forgotten bits and pieces, but this should make things simpler.

YAMAGUCHI TATSUYA RETURN

According to Nikkan Taishu, Yamaguchi Tatsuya will return to Johnny’s office to the last Tokio live concert before Nagase Tomoya departure. 

Seems the next april is the final for Tokio, Nagase Tomoya will leave the office and Tokio will disbanded. In regarding to farewell for fans, Tokio will be held a “last concert” and to do so Yamaguchi Tatsuya will join them. Also there are arrangements into Johnny’s office. 

The possibility is quite serious, Yamaguchi will be returned only once for Nagase's good-bye live.According to the article, it was the fact that Yamaguchi was reflected in "DASH" and "Kanjam" broadcast last month, and it seems that Johnny's is trying to carefully judge the reaction of the audience.
