The Legend of Zelda - Hero's Diaries masterpost

(Don't expect this to be continued, this is just for my own organisation lol)

If you've seen posts like my Project Sky, Earth Heart, or Bleach Maths, you know I like my overly grand dedications and oversized projects. Outside of a few personal ones, this is probably my longest and most researched one yet - my Hero's Diaries.

Zelda, to me, is one of those franchises I just sort of slipped into, my parents bought the games because we had the appropriate consoles and they were consistently good, you know? I loved them individually, but didn't piece them together as parts of a larger world until I was a little older, and then sought them out on my own.

Possibly one of the best parts of tloz is its silent protagonist, Mx-link-between-the-player-and-the-game. As a child, and even really as an adult, I could get so engrossed in the games, choosing my every action wisely, playing little games I made up myself in the world, taking in the scenery, frothing when I died to some smug looking boss, standing in front of animals to pretend I was petting them (mostly Epona) XD.

So between that, my love of documenting and researching, and my writing hobby, it was only natural that I keep little records of my own playthroughs. Funny little details and accidents, dramatically or comedically timed moments, bosses I defeated first try, npcs I did or didn't like.

It turned out, when I sat and thought about it, I'd actually played a lot of Zelda games, throughout the years.

This is a project over a decade in the making, full of love for the games I've been playing since I was seven years old and getting nightmares from sneaking the ds under my covers and seeing the Majora's Mask aliens too late on a school night.

21. Prettiest Zelda game?

I am so, so biased, but BOTW/TOTK. 🥹 I appreciate the distinct stylistic art choices in every game, but there's just something about this duology that makes me really want to spend time in them. They're colorful, crisp, and have an essence of maturity while also maintaining that childlike whimsy and wonder that is quintessentially Zelda. Just gorgeous! I'd also probably have to pick BOTW over TOTK too, just because sometimes those floating islands and Zonai ruin fragments spewed across the land can be a bit of an eyesore imo, haha 😅

22. Favourite incarnation of Link?

Listen, I love all my hero boys, I really do. But I gotta give it to Skyward Sword Link! He is extra expressive without crossing into overly cartoony (that Angry Face he makes at Ghirahim in the finale? And the way he tenderly holds Zelda after he saves her?? 😭 UGH). I love his maturity but ability to be an absolute gremlin goofball when he wants to be. His fluffy hair and personal dedication to saving his Zelda is everything to me 🥹

A very, very, very close second is BOTW/TOTK Link. Not only is he very pretty (😘), but in my view, despite his reserved nature, we've received the most insight into this Link canonically across all the games (thank you Zelda's diary! 🙏), and that's something I can always get behind (and forever obsess over).

25. Favourite companion (Midna, Ezlo, Navi, etc)?

This probably comes as no surprise, but Midna! 😁 And it's no contest. I love her design, her feistiness, her character arc. She has so much flavor, and it's honestly pretty impressive that the game is titled after her.

When I was like 12 I was so obssesed with this ship so I used to draw them like kissing or huggin and stuff like that, I even copied like super old deviantart fanarts of them in my school notebooks lol obviously with a very bad skills yk, so every time I draw them now I think i'm honoring my old self, if my 12 year old self could see this fanarts on internet it would be super exciting for them haha, idk if that makes sense but it makes me feel like i'm healing part of my inner child

I edited an old dead post to add my 'about' here because Tumblr recently did something (July 2023) so that the way I had this set up before didn't work on mobile.
