BRITTANY HOWARD - "PROVE IT TO YOU"
youtube
Weâre pretty convincedâŠ
[7.89]
Alfred Soto: What the fuck. I expected pop for NPR-affiliate listeners everywhere, not this homage to Clinton-era deep house where the percussion rattles and Brittany Howard gives the kind of anonymous vocal performance of which those dance classics were made. I'm on an airplane dancing, knocking drinks over. [9]
Katherine St. Asaph: The frontwoman of Alabama Shakes making a throbbing, explosive, furiously sung dance track, kinda like the midpoint of Prince, Depeche Mode, and classic house, about an all-consuming crush â i.e., the most Katherinebait thing imaginable â is something I never expected. The extended edit is not extended enough. [10]
TA Inskeep: A slightly warped take on late '90s prime-era deep house â think Masters at Work-adjacent â is easily the last thing I expected from Brittany Howard's sophomore solo album. And she sells it, with smart, crisp production and a voice that really can seem to sing anything. I love when queer art is this good. [8]
Harlan Talib Ockey: Music journalism is simply finding a thousand ways of saying 'good and also catchy'. Itâs Brittany Howard doing house, of all things, and the synth chirp sounds like my washing machine. I love it. [8]
Tim de Reuse: Out from the unremarkable feel-good beat grows a strange, growling sound-animal, lashing together every other element, supporting the echoing vocals from below while filling in the dead air between bursts of gasping, airy synths. Few house-revival efforts in this day and age reach this level of sonic cohesion, filling in every frequency like a jigsaw puzzle without letting anything cover up anything else. Tropical not as in "Tropical House" (touristy, antiseptic, manicured) but Tropical as in humid, dense vegetation, a buzz of color and sensation. [8]
Ian Mathers: As someone who's mostly hit the heights of "well, I wouldn't actively avoid it" with Howard's work before (solo or in a band), turns out I like her doing skronky, lovelorn dance music a lot more. Is the whole record like this? Do I need to actually seek it out? [8]
Nortey Dowuona: Zac Cockrell on bass, Brad Allen Williams on guitar, Lloyd Buchanan and Paul Horton on keys, Nate Smith on drums: It takes a village to execute a producer's vision. Brittany's vision of four-on-the-floor pop is a compelling idea, but everyone clashes against one another. She mixes alongside Shawn Everett, forcing mastering engineers Emily Lazar and Chris Allgood to compress the raging bass, the overly loud drums, the stubby keyboard stabs. The latter jabs and rips into a box to create holes so that loose, squelching sounds can slip inside. I don't know what was proven by this, other than that Brittany cannot execute her vision, nor abandon it to establish a community. [5]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: I have been in a number of relationships where I am the one more likely to express my affection verbally. It can be rough at first to navigate, if only because underneath my love for speech is a stark reminder that it neednât have supremacy over other modes of expression. And Jesus Christ, here is a song that makes this clear: the beat rattles and the synths roar, and Howard makes sure you can feel her passion even before she sings. âProve It to Youâ is a nice three-minute reminder that we can all grow a little more sensitive to the ways we receive, well, anything from anyone. [7]
Leah Isobel: "Prove It to You" isn't so much a dance song as it is a rock song in dance clothing â or the other way around. While its straightforward, aerodynamic thump is conversant with house, all of its instrumentation is given a physical, earthy touch: its bass is overdriven and gritty, its kicks booming and heavy. In other hands it could come across as irritating authenticity-bait. Here, though, the effect isn't vaguely patronizing but grand and kaleidoscopic, its momentum sourced from actual, felt urgency ("I will show you how I feel for you right now") instead of perceived external necessity. Howard meets dance halfway; it's kind of like love. [8]

Tim in a western! đ€ Who bets heâs gonna have that small beard? đ§đ»ââïž
Now, not sure about who is who.
They say Brandon Lessard is Henry in the 2nd paragraph, then they say Lessardâs Isaac in the third one. đ€ So if Tim is Henry, aka Isaacâs father, he probably wonât be there long or in flashbacksâŠ

âTim Daly (Wings) and Veronica Ferres (Hector and the Search for Happiness) have been tapped for roles in Unholy Trinity, rounding out the ensemble for the Western helmed by Robert the Bruceâs Richard Gray. The actors join an ensemble that also includes Pierce Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson, Brandon Lessard, and Qâorianka Kilcher, as previously announced.
Currently shooting under an Interim Agreement, the film written by Lee Zachariah is set against the turbulent backdrop of 1870s Montana. It picks up in the moments before the execution of Isaac Broadway, as he gives his estranged son, Henry (Lessard), an impossible task: murder the man who framed him for a crime he didnât commit. Intent on fulfilling his promise, Henry travels to the remote town of Trinity, where an unexpected turn of events traps him in town and leaves him caught between Gabriel Dove (Brosnan), the townâs upstanding new sheriff, and a mysterious figure named St. Christopher (Jackson).
Daly portrays Henry, the father of Lessardâs Isaac, with Ferres as Sarah, the midwife married to Sheriff Gabriel. Producers on the project include Carter Boehm, Richard Gray, Colin Floom, Michele Gray, Kellie Brooks and Jeanne Allgood. Amadeus Productions is exec producing.â

Meet the Cast ! MIKE MALLALEY (as Timothy Allgood)
Originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Mike moved to Charlottetown in 2016. Since coming to the Island Mike played Vadas in 'Shop Around the Corner' (ACT, 2017) and appeared in 'Raised on Television' 2 & 3. Mike has been acting since the ripe old age of 6, with his first role being a chorus member of 'The Ugly Duckling'. He has since moved onto over 50 roles on stage, including Brad in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show', Lurch in 'The Addams Family Musical', Lawrence in 'Calendar Girls', and Antigonus in 'The Winterâs Tale'. Mike has had over 10 roles in film and television and has been nominated twice for Best Actor in a short comedy at The Silver Wave Film Festival, winning once for 'Super Geek Mathboy'.
ACT asked Mike some questions....Â
Who is your character? ...I play Tim, the over-worked and under-appreciated stage manager (as if there is any other kind) that seems to get caught in the middle of all the crazy shenanigans as he tries in vain to keep the company afloat. Iâm often cast as zany or over the top characters, and I like the challenge of playing the sensible guy amongst all of the other colorful characters in this show.
Besides yourself, what celebrity would you like to see tackle this character? ....Steve Buschemi
Without giving anything away, whatâs your favorite line of dialogue? ...This is getting Farcical!
Which actor in this production is going to blow people away? .....I think the audience is in for a special treat with the entire cast of Noises Off but I have especially enjoyed watching Brian Collins develop his character of Selsdon/The Burglar.
What do you enjoy most about doing a comedy? Whatâs challenging about bringing this show to life? ...I enjoy being able to make people laugh- and there should be lots of laughs in this show. The most challenging aspect is getting the entrances and exits just rightâŠand all those doors!
What draws you to community theatre? ...The theatre community has always been my second home and where I always feel the most comfortable even when Iâm doing something absurd on stage.Â

Developers accuse Apple of anti-competitive behavior with its privacy changes in iOS 13
A group of app developers have penned a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, arguing that certain privacy-focused changes to Appleâs iOS 13 operating system will hurt their business. In a report by The Information, the developers were said to have accused Apple of anti-competitive behavior when it comes to how apps can access user location data.
With iOS 13, Apple aims to curtail appsâ abuse of its location-tracking features as part of its larger privacy focus as a company.
Today, many apps ask users upon first launch to give their app the âAlways Allowâ location-tracking permission. Users can confirm this with a tap, unwittingly giving apps far more access to their location data than is actually necessary, in many cases.
In iOS 13, however, Apple has tweaked the way apps can request location data.
There will now be a new option upon launch presented to users, âAllow Once,â which allows users to first explore the app to see if it fits their needs before granting the app developer the ability to continually access location data. This option will be presented alongside existing options, âAllow While Using Appâ and âDonât Allow.â
The âAlwaysâ option is still available, but users will have to head to iOS Settings to manually enable it. (A periodic pop-up will also present the âAlwaysâ option, but not right away.)
The app developers argue that this change may confuse less technical users, who will assume the app isnât functioning properly unless they figure out how to change their iOS Settings to ensure the app has the proper permissions.
The developersâ argument is a valid assessment of user behavior and how such a change could impact their apps. The added friction of having to go to Settings in order to toggle a switch so an app to function can cause users to abandon apps. Itâs also, in part, why apps like Safari ad blockers and iOS replacement keyboards never really went mainstream, as they require extra steps involving the iOS Settings.
That said, the changes Apple is rolling out with iOS 13 donât actually break these apps entirely. They just require the apps to refine their onboarding instructions to users. Instead of asking for the âAlways Allowâ permission, they will need to point users to the iOS Settings screen, or limit the appsâ functionality until itâs granted the âAlways Allowâ permission.
In addition, the developersâ letter pointed out that Appleâs own built-in apps (like Find My) arenât treated like this, which raises anti-competitive concerns.
The letter also noted that Apple in iOS 13 would not allow developers to use PushKit for any other purpose beyond internet voice calls â again, due to the fact that some developers abused this toolkit to collect private user data.
âWe understand that there were certain developers, specifically messaging apps, that were using this as a backdoor to collect user data,â the email said, according to the report. âWhile we agree loopholes like this should be closed, the current Apple plan to remove [access to the internet voice feature] will have unintended consequences: it will effectively shut down apps that have a valid need for real-time location.â
The letter was signed by Tile CEO CJ Prober; Arity (Allstate) President Gary Hallgren; CEO of Life360 Chris Hullsan; CEO of dating app Happn Didier Rappaport; CEO of Zenly (Snap), Antoine Martin; , CEO of Zendrive, Jonathan Matus which; and chief strategy officer of social networking app Twenty, Jared Allgood.
Apple responded to The Information by saying that any changes it makes to the operating system are âin service to the userâ and to their privacy. It also noted that any apps it distributes from the App Store have to abide by the same procedures.
Itâs another example of how erring on the side of increased user privacy can lead to complications and friction for end users. One possible solution could be allowing apps to present their own in-app Settings screen where users could toggle the appâs full set of permissions directly â including everything from location data to push notifications to the appâs use of cellular data or Bluetooth sharing.
The news comes at a time when the U.S. Dept. of Justice is considering investigating Apple for anti-competitive behavior. Apple told The Information it was working with some of the impacted developers using PushKit on alternate solutions.

Meet the Cast - Mike Mallaley
Meet the Cast ! MIKE MALLALEY (as Timothy Allgood) - Originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Mike moved to Charlottetown in 2016.
ACT asked Mike some questions....
What draws you to community theatre? ...The theatre community has always been my second home and where I always feel the most comfortable even when Iâm doing something absurd on stage.

The Most Vicious Cycle | Music Video from Ben Smith on Vimeo.
*** WARNING: Sensitive Content*** A film designed to inspire younger generations to get out and vote for representatives who advocate sensible gun control laws in the November â18 midterms. Written by Kesha, Sage, Chika, Pebe Sebert, and Drew Pearson, the song was created as an artistic response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The film is a looping, metaphoric visualization of the predictable events that follow a mass shooting. Using the overly complicated and at times comical mechanics of a Rube Goldberg machine, the story takes place inside a school while a shooting is occurring. After every shooting, thereâs outrage, prayers and false promises. Then it happens again. End #TheMostViciousCycle. Vote for candidates who support sensible gun laws and share the video. #VoteForOurLives on 11/6.
