I originally wrote my 2 cents in the tags but I've decided that I'm gonna say it here bc man, it pisses me off so much and I do have a place to say something.
These people are literally the people who say "I love Asia and Asian culture!" and proceed to not even acknowledge South Asia or even Southeast Asia. They're also the same people who romanticise KOR and JP culture to the point it borderlines fetishisation or even enters that territory and just paints CN culture as something that is undesired and/or "unaesthetic". Obviously goes without saying that that's the extreme and not everyone is like that.
Also goes without saying that if you genuinely didn't know, that's fine but it's for those people who actively choose to ignore the facts and are being selective with culture and are so blatantly 2 faced with it that I have major issues with. If you say you like Asia and its culture, you also need to acknowledge that there is more to Asia than just KOR and JP culture (and they're just as beautiful and stunning)
And this is my PSA now to anyone who follows me who has this sort of behaviour, kindly unfollow me. Come back to me when you're not a racist twat
Reading tags on the hanfu douyins and I have discovered both “I miss Japan” and “Korean fashion”… SIGH
Yeah I also get the "Japanese people are so funny" from time to time on just regular douyins.... honestly I just block these sort of people because to me, they clearly don't actually have enough respect for Japanese people (or whoever) either if they can mistake non-Japanese sounds and characters (Chinese captioning) for Japanese 🤷🏻♂️ Plus I feel like these people are the least likely to notice a trickle of EAsian content disappearing from their dash so I don't feel bad about it even if they didn't mean anything bad by it.
Also like, I could understand people maybe getting confused by traditional dress if there was no caption.... but I've never really seen anyone post hanfu on this site without captioning or tagging it as hanfu, so to then turn around and once again be so sloppy as to just assume it's Japanese or Korean is just... Whatever, bye. Try harder.

Violence breeds violence or... Something.
Anyway, 1, 16, 25 and one of your choice?
And the cycle never ends? or something I suppose.
1. the character everyone gets wrong
Oh, so many. I won't go on a list or anything bc I know 99% of them are "I seem to have a really specific way of reading characters and it seems to be very different from how pop fandom reads them" but god are there a lot. I think the most recent that I'm fine pointing out would be Ferdinand, Ashe, and Cyril from FE3H (amongst other characters), but I won't go into details bc I know you're holding off on spoilers.
Not specific to those characters but I still have a bone to pick: I think the general commonality is just that some fans latch on to some sort of surface aspect of characterization and decide the character's entire existence revolves around that instead of like, the actual nuance that the writing clearly shows otherwise. This especially irks me for characters explicitly stated or shown to mask or suppress a lot of their emotions but don't fall into the "stoic and emotionless" trope, like, whenever a character puts up some sort of façade that comes off as friendly or snarky or really anything that isn't an obvious "this is a mask to hide their inner emotions", then suddenly the fanon for the character becomes as interesting as a sack of flour. Which is an insult to sacks of flour to be honest.
Sometimes this is the fault of the writers or developers, like Fates is a goldmine of "I swear this character is really super interesting if you actually look at what writing they get" bc there's over 70 characters and I can imagine that was difficult to juggle on top of three different routes. But sometimes it's "this is literally one of the main characters who got all the writing, how did you miss all this about their characterization!!!" But again, this is very much probably a me thing, and it's not like I'm gonna fight people over how they chose to interpret a character.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Hmm, I'm not actually wildly fond of most "tsundere" characters bc they have to be a really, really specific flavor of tsundere for me to actually enjoy the characterization, but most of the time the character is so abrasive and rude that they just come off as an asshole.
Also--and this is not a jab at literally any artist in existence who's done this--but when shippy fanart emulates Gutav Klimt's "The Kiss" I want to throw a chair across the room. It's not that it's a bad painting, or even that I dislike Klimt bc I don't! Something about the figure posing for that painting specifically just gives me whatever the visual equivalent is to hearing nails on chalkboard, and I just. Really, really think there's more romantic historic paintings with less visually grating anatomy poses out there that can be emulated for shippy art. This is very much a Me thing, so again it's not like I'm gonna tell people to not draw fanart based on "The Kiss" bc everyone's free to do whatever they please and all, but the popularity of that one historic painting specifically is wild.
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
Oh hmm, all the "Fates is bad" complaints (it really wasn't), almost everything around 3H, people comparing Engage's art-style to Genshin (it's not similar at all), complaints about how simple Engage's story/characters are (they aren't, but I'm not here to write a narrative analysis).
As a general rule for not-FE-specific examples, people ragging on what I call "black sheep games" (games in a series that are almost universally disliked by the fandom regardless of whether the game was good or not)--oooh, discussions and complaints about black sheep games drive me insane, no matter if I enjoyed the game or not, I just really, strongly dislike seeing hateful rants about how bad a game was for not being An Exact Copy Of The Series' Golden Child Game. Like sure, vent the frustrations, that's healthy and all, but keep the negativity out of the tags or at least tagged in a way that can be filtered for people cruising the tag and not looking for negativity at the very least.
for my personal choice, 10. worst part of fanon
Circling back to the first question, for me it's fanon character interpretations and headcanons that become so popular they end up as fanon. I find it frustrating because I like to theorycraft and think about characters based as closely to the canon text as I can, but revisiting the source text for accuracy sometimes isn't easy (especially if a game script hasn't been uploaded for a game that requires lots of hours to play). So while the experience of the original text can take up a lot of time, revisiting it isn't a constant or continual thing, whereas fandom continues the "story and characters" in a sense beyond the bounds of the original narrative. Which is a great way to keep things alive and stuff, but it also means that what a character was actually like in the original text can get warped through the simulacra of fandom, and popular fanon just speeds up that warping process. So if I want to revisit a character or even sometimes just worldbuilding lore stuff to have fun crafting some theories, I have to take a step back and try to figure out how much of the fanon stuff I've seen is actually accurate or not, and often have to go back to the original text anyhow and then be disappointed or frustrated with how much less interesting and nuanced the fanon typically is and how little discussion there is around what actually occurs in the original narrative.
Mind this isn't for like, every character or every bit of worldbuilding, since sometimes the fanon is "wow the writers were super sexist, maybe we should reinterpret this female character in a kinder light" and so while I'd still have to revisit the source text to understand the original characterization, the fanon might actually be more interesting in that regard. But this is...a rarity.
Also, sometimes a character's entire characterization gets sucked into the black hole that is fandom's obsession with shipping, and that's also frustrating bc then the character doesn't seem to exist in fan works outside of the ship, despite (very often at least) being their own individual character in the original text. Like listen, I don't hate shipping, I've got my own fleet of ships I enjoy or am partial to, but I wish it wasn't so central to some fandom spaces that occasionally a character's characterization vanishes into "part of this one popular ship".
#sorry this took ages to answer I actually did have most of it written out I just uh...#got distracted by playing games#(I've barely worked on art or writing bc of Ooooh New Game Syndrome as well)#anyhow I still ended up making this kinda vague bc I guess I still don't want too much drama on my blog#unsuspecting-person#ask game#I still don't have an ask tag

pspsps hand over ur sara ships. neow
oh boy, this might be a long one...
kokosara: this was my first sara ship, and it was also the first ship i got attached to in genshin overall !! the idea of a sapphic enemies to lovers ship is what drew me in, but i also really liked how they held some level of respect for each other? that aspect made it easy for me to imagine them getting along in post-war inazuma. they'd both be willing to set aside the past and focus on the future of their people instead, and they're also very capable women so i think they would work very well together !! one thing i will say is that my perception of kokosara (the details of their dynamic and their individual personalities) seems to differ from the majority of the fandom's view, and that might be why i grew apart from the ship a little? i still think that it is a top-tier ship though <3
yaesara: ok, this one started off as a half-joke. i initially thought that the dynamic between these two characters was funny (which it is, don't get me wrong) but then i thought about it some more and was like... WAIT A SECOND... and realized that there is so much potential for yearning and angst and a bunch of other tropes that i love. in fact, just thinking about it right now made me discover a certain parallel between these two: while sara is practically a stranger to long, supportive, and loving relationships, yae is the complete opposite. she's had many friendships over her long lifetime, and she understands the pain of loss on a level that even sara (a general of the military who is certainly no stranger to death) doesn't. thanks for fueling the yaesara brainrot, bc every time i think of them i discover more reasons to like them !!
ittosara: for a while i struggled to pinpoint which dynamic i enjoyed the most for them. rivals? friends? lovers? the answer is yes. i mean, how could i resist a rivals to friends to lovers ship (just look at my username jsdkjsd), but ESPECIALLY one where i love both characters an unhealthy amount? and they also have so much content that links them together (the bulletin boards in inazuma, the voicelines, sara's appearance in itto's trailer, etc.) but it just makes me want to see them share screen time again even MORE... (i also really love the fan interpretation of sara being the tengu from itto's childhood who carried him back after their fight) and personally, i see them as actual rivals who would need to work to understand each other on a deeper level before actually developing any kind of platonic or romantic feelings for one another. it's very similar to kokosara in the sense that i interpret it very differently from a large portion of the community, which is just one reason i tend to avoid content of them. i really don't mind letting my own ideas cycle through my head :]
beidou x sara (saradou? sarabei? beisara? idk): now THIS one is funny, just bc of how it randomly popped in my mind one day and how i then spent about a week brainrotting about it sjdkjsdksjk. is part of it just me putting two muscular electro women together? maybe. i was having fun imagining scenarios where beidou would visit inazuma with her fleet and end up on some kind of mission with sara. to me, sara having a very serious demeanor and beidou being more of a carefree rule-breaker makes me think that they would have a fun dynamic (especially at first). but at the same time, they also share many of the same experiences and i think that they could bond over that !! <3
there are other ships that i'm open to, but these are the main ones !!

An update that came from absolutely nowhere
Hi. If you're reading this, I'm surprised this showed up on your page (or maybe you just looked up my page, which I'm not mad about, LOL). Anyway, I figured I'd post an update because it's been a while since I've done anything here.
First of all, I'm doing fine (and I mean it LOL). I've just been very MIA due to adulting, especially now that I'm working full-time. So I've been getting busier, but I'm dealing with these changes pretty well LOL.
That being said, I've found that a lot of my priorities are changing. A huge example of this is that I don't have as much time for creative things, especially writing, which is what I've mostly used Tumblr for. I'm sad that I haven't had the chance to delve into a fandom and write silly little fics/HCs/song parodies to contribute to these communities. But like I said before, my priorities are changing due to adulting, and honestly I'm okay with it.
I also want to share that I haven't been active here because I've become more cautious of who I choose to interact with online in general. I won't go into details for the sake of privacy and to not stir up old drama (bc im fkn scarred and i would not like to open up old wounds ehcibeic), but I want to be transparent especially with my mutuals: I've unfortunately come across someone who has ultimately pushed me away from wanting to stay in this space. That toxic situation made me believe that Tumblr could no longer be one of my safe spaces, so I decided that I would slowly and quietly become more of a lingerer before I eventually leave altogether.
I'm not sure if I will actually leave Tumblr or delete this account though - I am still lingering here for some new fandoms I've found, but haven't necessarily joined or participated in. But if you (a.k.a. my mutuals) are ever concerned about me just leaving forever, I want to say that 1) I'm sorry for not keeping in touch with y'all - I wasn't in the best mental space for a while and I needed to take some time away from this platform and 2) I'd be willing to connect outside of Tumblr; however, due to privacy reasons, I am limiting this alternative to Discord and Genshin (yes, I'm including the game as a way to connect with me lol).
Anyway, that's the gist of what's been going on both recently and for the past 2ish years ejdheicn. Again, I'm sorry that I've been so out of the loop. But for those who want, I'd be glad to connect with y'all again.
Take care! ❤
#life update#why ive been so quiet for two fking years whcbiencje#i should also mention that tumblr's been p ded on my end which is also why i havent been opening the website often lol#also apologies for any spelling or grammatical errors#i am on my work break and i decided to write this on a whim lol
