To be fair, I think there is a strong dichotomy in Silmarillion fandom between people who fundamentally accept the narrative rationale that Beren and Luthien can rightfully claim the silmaril because Fate and Divine Favor UwU, and those of us who... do not buy that.
Either you accept the morals baked into the narrative, or you try to apply real world morality and become an orobouros gnawing your own tail I guess.
