OKAY! Imma do a lil fic rec list rn because I’ve been reading BakuDeku like crazy and have some good bookmarks. Now, I still have a LOT of bookmarked stories to get through, so I'll be sure to update this if people would like me too, but here are my fav bakudeku fics/short stories I've read so far:

You know this had to be on here, its just,,,,i know people have mixed opinions (mostly the outfit choices which i do agree with are,,,,choices) but this story was beautiful. I loved katsuki's chapters so fucking much, being able to see inside his mind and how he thinks and views izuku was amazing and its just a really fun, angsty, romance filled story. its quite smutty, although i think people freak out about that a little too much on tiktok but thats coming from someone that writes petplay regularly lmao, but i really love this. its so long, its addicting, and my god its CINEMATIC. this was the first bakudeku fic i ever read too, so it really got me into the anime again as well as the ship PLUS IT HAS SO MUCH GOOD 80s MUSIC THAT IVE SAVED AND LISTEN TO DAILY NOW PLS DOWNLOAD THE PLAYLIST FOR THE FULL EXPERIANCE MY GOD

this is the authors only other story and it was another joy! ive never read hanahaki stories before but it was gut wrenching, ilterally, how beautiful and horrifying the fictional disease is. we see a pining, desperatley in love katsuki with such a sweet izuku. they're both silly for not admitting their feelings but we had to have the angst somewhere, it was just another joy to read!

this fic has kept me up at night. its not completed yet, the author hasn't updated since june, and im truly praying to a god i dont believe in that they update one day. im so into this story, its got bumbass yo shindo in it (i love him in canon but hes a bitch here) and izuku just doing his best and THEN ONCE AGAIN YEARNING PINING BAKUGO WHOSE ALWAYS LOVED HIM BUT LET HIM GO TO WORK ON HIMSELF PLEASE i love this bakugo guys seriously, and their relationship is so beautiful and they know each other like clockwork, HOWEVER i will say there are a couple TW in this one for what id say is emotional abuse in the marriage, just a lot of mistrust and lying and MAJOR gaslighting so just bare that in mind going into it, Yo is a twat

— SKETCHING

please note that i almost always sketch traditionally first lol it's just a lot easier for me to determine how the drawing is placed that way, but i always go over and re-sketch it digitally

for magolor i always start with a basic egg shape (lmao) and then i add his ears. then I draw the scarf; it's easy to determine the shape and dynamicism based on where the bottoms of the ears are located

then i usually add the cape and hood together. where and how these are placed and what these look like in general are very important because they're the main area that perspective is directed to (the ears and everything else is important too ofc!! but the hood and cape usually help demonstrate where he is looking and how he is moving the most). then i add everything else, usually his hands last!

ohhhhhh god my worst enemy. Hope youre sitting down because this will be embarrassing LMAO

lineart is easily what i struggle with most and is more often than not the most time consuming and grating step for me. If i had a choice i would drop it in a heartbeat, but my style is so dependent on thick lines and shapes that it's difficult to 😭 a hole i dug myself into unfortunately ITS FINE THOUGH. ANYWAYS I'm getting sidetracked

i use my finger to draw all my digital art, which means i usually have to use a Heavy stabilizer to avoid shakiness and staggered lines. Unfortunately ibis paint's stabilizer is actually dog water and doesn't even stabilize more than half the time (in which case i have to repeat lines over. And over. And over again until i get it right) but when it does like me and works properly it's very helpful!

i always use the soft school pen bleed brush as my main tool for lineart. This brush has been my best friend for everything, i even use it for sketching idk it just really like the way it looks lol. sometimes i change the aspect if i want the lines to look more ,, chalky?? or smoother depending on the work

i don't really use this tool much but for this specific piece, force fade was my partner in crime

also i think i need to mention that i use so many layers for this. So many layers lol like to the point it's embarrassing. and at the end i merge most of them (except for the gear patterns, rings on his ear, and eyes + hands, which usually need to be by themselves as they're colored separately) Thank you for layers

— COLORING && SHADING

yippee yahoo the fun part !!! the part that i love the most

at this point, if i havent already, i always create a folder for convenience in organization because this is the part that i stress the most about what details are on which layers lmao

then i add ANOTHER layer below that for the color, then i put every single color used on their own separate layer!

now, for shading, if im working on larger pieces with more complex shading, i'll usually plan it all out. normally when just drawing magolor, i don't really need to do this anymore because i'm so used to it lol, but for funsies i did it here anyways

then i use the bucket tool to fill them all in

i usually have a set color palette for all the characters i draw (though the way i shade white differs. A lot between my work as you can probably tell fhdfgf). For every color, i have two specific tones that are associated with the shading. for example, indigo + violet are shaded with my blue, pink + light orange (or lighter pink depending on my mood lol) are shaded with yellow, etc.

so, i shade the other areas with the 2nd shading color

a big tip i can give for coloring is to look at a color wheel when you draw. i know that sounds like. Such basic advice LMAO but that seriously was a huge help for me when developing my shading and something i learned while studying — if you notice, in all of the shading in my work, all of the colors used are analogous on the color wheel. note that not ALL combinations will work together like others obv !! but it's a huge step in knowing where to go with it

then i add other extra details like extra lighting, halftones (if i feel like it // if it fits the work), glow to his eyes, and color the lines and ta-da!

another tool i use a lot especially with my more recent art are blending modes, especially multiply. i use a clipping layer to add a dark color (usually a dark blue or purple) and set it to multiply, then erase the areas that emit light

and this is the end result! this is a very very basic demonstration of it fhdjg i was a pretty messy with the lighting and erasing in this example but you get the general idea right

"so it happens" in itself is interesting and very fitting but in latin its just so much more fancy

I love how their official names are different (and unusual), like wilum, nikanna, tomys, alecs

once again you have something special about names and looking back to the series name I have a feeling there will be moments where the choice between formal name and nickname will be important

(the lengths stories in english have to go to show the border between formal/informal addressing /hj, names have a different beat to them but the technique is actually similar

its a bit sad actually, I feel like so many english texts could go bonkers if "thou" and "ye" still existed and didnt get merged into you)

I mean we already saw something similar in the prequel with phil calling wilbur wilum to show importance of the situation

gotta say, the importance of names is always a bit different and never boring and I love it

origins characters and character traits oh my that opens up so many possibilities i love the sound of this

also just the phil we see in the prequel has some "harsh" qualities, setting kids up against each other which fits o!phil much more than c!phil, so many new traits to play with

excited to see how this might change the characters and relationships and stuff (sandduo is bound to be interesting, not that they werent before, but yk)

the latin series title is one I like quite a bit :)) also the only latin chapter title i think we're going to have is the first one (it also translates to 'so it begins' which I just thought was fitting). maybe the last one too to round it out but i dont plan chapter titles ahead of time so we'll see lmao

oh I had such a fun time coming up with the names. I also struggled so fucking hard LMAO. I think Nikanna is my favorite of the names I came up with, although I thought Alecs and Tomys were clever since it's just alternate spellings. also it hasn't been mentioned in text yet, but Sam's full name is Samuel Aswyn and I'm pretty happy with myself for coming up with Aswyn as a surname equivalent for 'awesamdude'

but yeah there's always going to be an element of importance given to names in a fic like this. like, it's one of my favorite tropes to use. it definitely isn't going to have the same weight as names in glass and stars did, but it'll be there for sure.

you get it though. like, we would benefit SO much if we still used thou and ye because we could go insane in the membrane with the way we write interactions between characters. but alas i just have to create convoluted worldbuilding rules about the roles of names to get my point across instead...

yeah I mean stars!phil definitely had elements of o!phil in him, but it'll definitely be more obvious in rose. also, ngl, a huge part of why I decided to throw osmp in the tags was because I just wanted to write o!sneeg. I fucking love o!phil and o!sneeg's dynamic they're so funny together so when I was like "holy shit I could put sneeg in rose" I knew I had to do it

so yeah my issues arent directly abt gmos, they're about capitalism. gmos are just a link in intensive agriculture and capitalism's firm grip on the neck of food production professionals.

gmos are just accelerated natural selection made in a lab by a human. its good bc it makes crops more resistant and more productive, or makes for example bananas or watermelon have actual edible flesh and not be just a bunch of seeds.

so! wild bananas? just seeds. some evolved to have more flesh, and some (cough the cavendish cough) were modified to *only* have flesh. the cavendish is completely seedless and thus sterile. to grow a new cavendish plant, you have to use the rhizomes of a first plant (parts of its roots) that you separate from the “mother plant" and plant on their own. you get a whole plantation from one “mother plant”

so what does that mean! that means all cavendish are genetically identical. and that means that since all plants and all fruits are *completely identical,* if one plant or one fruit catches a disease, all others *can* catch it, bc if one is sensible to the disease, it means ALL OF THEM ARE.

with seeds, the plants are all different, through pollination they make more very varied plants, and thus some can have resistances that others don't. it's kind of like vaccination and herd immunity. here though?...

the funniest (/sarcasm) part is that the precedent most widespread banana species, the Gros Michel, was raised the exact same way, and was wiped out by the panama disease or whatchamacallit… which the cavendish is also sensible too.

but let's talk about crops more common where im from like wheat, corn and canola. tomato. most vegetables. these kinds of crops, when they're gmos, are either intentionally made infertile (as in, you do get fruits & seeds, but these seeds either won't grow crops or will grow crops that won't bear fruits) or are under a certain number of contractual obligations.

one of these obligations is that you can't keep seeds to plant them again the next year. if you grow wheat, it's very easy to keep a part of your grain and plant it again the next year you want wheat. but thats forbidden. buy seeds every year.

another can be that you have to use a certain kind of herbicide, that is sold by their own company. im not screaming monsanto rn but thats exactly what im doing. monsanto sells gmos, contractually makes you buy roundup, they get double the money and double the fun.

another thing is monoculture. this isnt directly linked to gmos but gmos and monoculture are both the degenerate children of capitalism.

im from the south of france, we're the third biggest corn exporters of the world. all the fucking fields are corn. everywhere. all the time. if you havent worked in a corn field you're either rich or not from here. monoculture, monoculture, monoculture.

when you plant something, this plant will take elements from the soil and reject other elements. if you only plant 1 kind of crop over and over, you create a buildup of the crop’s “wastes" and an exhaustion of the soil’s ressources in what the crop needs.

monocultures basically creates giant deserts. the soil, the ground is drained over and over by the same cultures, or yearly changes, but like i said, here its corn, wheat, canola, corn. it sort of varies but its still always the same stuff pulled from the ground. so if you wanna keep growing your shit, you gotta use fertilizers. triple the money for monsanto.

in my garden, i wanted green beans. green beans reject nitrogen in the soil. if i only plant green beans, my ground is going to get a nitrogen build up. i don't want that. soil with too much nitrogen stunts root growth, makes the plants over produce foliage and tire themselves, and then salt burns the foliage my plant tired itself for. it also pollutes groundwater.

however! corn and cucurbits love nitrogen. love the shit. corn allows the beans to go up and around. cucurbits have large leaves that protects the ground from drying up and thorns that deter most pests.

(this isnt something i invented lol. Native  Americans from north and central america have been doing this since forever. Maya people used the technique. in the south of france it's been used for a while with local beans and corn first imported from Mexico i dont know when but a while ago. Mexico has semi recently started using this technique again bc its good! it's good for your ground!)

the problem, lmao, the problem is that you can't use the three sisters garden layout in intensive agriculture. and thats whats up isnt it? you gotta produce more.

but my problem isnt with them, it's what they represent. they start as a good idea, being able to make more food for people. but the result is that: france produces 17.1 million metric tons of corn per year, and barely eats any of it.

so basically: to grow corn over and over you need to buy the seeds and transport them, buy fertilizer (bc monoculture) and transport it, buy pesticide and herbicide, transport them. then you use gigantic tractors to fertilize your fields, plant your corn, spray roundup all over it. pay a bunch of teenagers to spend hours in the sun during summer to cut the male flowers of 70% of your crops so the right male flowers fertilize the right female flowers. more giant tractors to gather your corn. nobody buys it here so you transport it to an exporter, who transports it elsewhere, and it moves around until it's transformed, and then it's moved around again until it gets to a seller.

so much fucking diesel and ruining the soil for what?! and do we talk about food waste????!!!!!
