#There was a goalie (I don't remember when but I think the eighties) and his jugular was slashed

I think the reason I knew I'd become a Kraken fan eventually (besides the name and how beautiful the jerseys are) is because they're so new and thus the team culture wasn't solidified way back in the 60s. It's still a hockey team, so it's not perfect, but instead of a "yeah this is who we are" that got started in 1962, with 1962 ways of thinking, they're getting their "this is who we are" solidified now. A time in history much kinder to people like me. Again, I'm not saying the Kraken are perfect and can do no wrong and won't ever disappoint us with their behaviour, that's impossible, and it's a pedestal no person or organization should ever be on. But think about what we have in Coach Jess! Obviously you can (and should) say that's it's ridiculous that it's 2024 and we only now have the first woman behind an NHL bench but. She's here. She's finally here. And the players respect her and listen to her and like her. And that's no small thing.
Anyway, I just suddenly had Big Feelings about the Kraken and so I'm probably not making much sense but if I can't ramble on this website what's my account for, y'know?
#Weirdly this was brought on by finding out the captain will be out for like 3 months#Yes it's bad and we miss him but#he's also being given the time to heal#There was a goalie (I don't remember when but I think the eighties) and his jugular was slashed#he almost bleed out on the ice#and he was playing a couple weeks later#I don't know if he was told he had to come back#but I have no doubt there was pressure to return#Whether it was pressure from the team or pressure from the Be A Man And Suck It Up culture of the time I cannot say#But with that in mind isn't it great that when players are hurt they're out til they heal?#(they probably aren't as healed as we like and the whole 'play through the pain' is still rampant especially during playoffs but still)#I love every bit of destruction however small against toxic masculinity#The masculinity of these men can be beautiful we just need to let the residue of don cherry's preferred hockey chip away#seattle kraken#hockey
