#The Founder's Curse ebook
Text
Who doesn’t love a buffet?
“The information we consume matters just as much as the food we put in our body. It affects our thinking, our behaviour, how we understand our place in the world. And how we understand others.” -Evan Williams, Co-founder of Twitter and medium
My relationship to social media is a tumultuous one, where I have gone through different phases of social media usage. Over the years however, I’ve found myself seeking to be more intentional with my usage of social media. This includes the time spent scrolling down feeds, to the content I’m consuming be it on Facebook, instagram or Youtube. I’ve always found these three to be my main source of both mental relief, in the form of mindless scrolling, and stimulation through the access to a seeming infinitum of information at the tap of a thumb. I’ve also loved consuming knowledge through podcasts and a somewhat liberal relationship to buying ebooks on Amazon. We really are living in a day and age of abundance, which is both a blessing and a curse depending on how you look at it and approach it. Never has there been a time of sheer unfiltered access to both junk and quality information because of the internet. Social media being an interesting byproduct of this phenomenon that connects humans through the sharing of content that ranges from photos, sometimes of their lunches, to beautifully thought-out articles and books about the nature of our lived reality. (Min, 2017)  This vastly nuanced spectrum between junk information and quality is one I have been seeking to navigate with more discernment and intentionality.
A common thing I’ve heard people say, growing up, is that “Knowledge is power”. Yet in observing the juxtaposition between having an over abundance of knowledge and the lived reality of our world on a personal and collective level, has lead me to amend this statement. “Knowledge is not power, it is only potential power”. Meaning that knowledge truly finds its power when properly digested by the individual, and transmuted into something actionable. Otherwise, you’d think we’d be walking around with lots of powerful people, but instead, levels of anxiety and overwhelm have been at an all time high in our generation. (Keles, McCrae & Grealish, 2019)
I love how Martin Lurther King talked about power. He says “Power properly understood is nothing but the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political and economic change … What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
Awareness of a personal sense of purpose then to me seems like a natural precursor to greater intentionality in the way we consume knowledge online. So if we imagine our time online like being at the vastest buffet of knowledge and information. I realise now I have to be smart about it and get my ‘moneys’ worth, and in the case of social media usage, I’m paying with my time and attention. So instead of loading up on all the carbs that get me full quicker but don’t truly satiate. I’m gonna load up on some oysters and seafood, maybe even some wagyu beef if they’ve got some. In terms of knowledge, what I’m looking for is quality thinking and discussion that can be deeply digested and transformed into power.

Excerpt:
Realization hit Damien as to who he was staring down. The same dark god that had challenged him stood in Lilith’s form. Damien’s heart inside his chest burned as he thought about Kain and all he’d done for him. Jill. Dad…Rob…Gabriel…Holt…Chelsea.
“Looks like it’s just you and me, Damien. You can surrender and die in peace or you can fight and die anyway. Your choice.”
Save him. Luna’s voice inside of Damien’s mind drew his attention. Save him. I beg of you. Please.
Damien’s body became surrounded with a radiant light so bright it forced Lilith step back. Her wing covered her face. He braced himself on his front legs, roaring at the monster in front of him responsible for taking so much.
The light became so intense not even the lycans could stare at it.
When it finally faded, Damien stood in his true lycan form. His white fur blew in the wind like mist at the tip of his stiffened ears to the end of his tail. The dark markings of his wolf form only seen on the tips of his ears, feet and tail. The fur on the back of his neck was thicker, almost resembling a mane.
“By the gods, he looks like…” Lune stood in awe.
“Tenebris.” Gabriel’s finished, his voice nothing but a whisper.
Stoker used the opportunity to sneak off, nursing the wound on his arm inflicted by Gabriel when he shifted into his full lycan form.
The vampires hissed at the light rising from the east, trying to flee towards the waning night. They had fallen right into Damien’s plan and were intercepted. Howls and snarls joined dying screams as the vampires were overwhelmed.
“What trickery is this?!” Lilith’s fangs spat as she tried to speak.
Damien ignored her, seeing the fear in her eyes as he made his way over to Kain on the ground.
The alpha was so weak he couldn’t retain his shifted form.
“Kain.” Damien’s voice was a comfortable echo. Warm and reassuring. “Alex. Can you hear me?”
Kain opened his eyes, slightly jumping. “Tenebris?”
Damien shook his head. “No. It’s me.”
“Damien. How?”
Damien took Kain’s jacket he was always wearing around his waist and covered his friend with it. “Stay here. Don’t move and don’t die.”
He stood back up and went to face Lilith. The lycans in his way stepped aside, their heads bowed. “This ends here, Lilith. You won’t hurt anyone else.”

Above is a piece of art by Michael Gaydos from Beckett’s Jyhad Diary, which is going live on DTRPG Wednesday so you can get the PDF and/or the physical copy, PoD versions if you didn’t back the Kickstarter. For backers, you’ve already received the backer PDF, and we’ll be sending out a link to DTRPG to get the PoD at a reduced cost if you want to. Your Deluxe version is going to press, and will come to you once we get it all printed up!
Matthew Dawkins, one of the book’s writers and devs, posted this “making of” blog about Beckett’s Jyhad Diary last week: http://theonyxpath.com/writing-and-developing-an-epic-sourcebook-v20-becketts-jyhad-diary/
This week is a bit of a short one, and next week I may or may not be able to get this posted on Monday, but expect it Tuesday for sure. Unless weather issues strand me in Milwaukee, and then all bets are off!
Of course, if you are some of the folks who usually read this on Tuesday, then expect it later in the day. Probably.
The reason for our schedule shifting is, as long-time readers know, our annual trip to the MidWinter Convention in Milwaukee. This year is even more special than previous years, because most of our in-house Onyx Path folks are going to be there this year, as well as a whole bunch of our freelance creators, and then our Onyx crew are staying an extra day to have our yearly summit.
So, there will be the usual yearly wacky posts from Maders German Restaurant, and probably from the Safe House, where Mirthful Mike will have a Spy’s Demise cocktail after 17 years (he says). I expect a lot of nostalgia waves from the Mirthful One, as Milwaukee was where White Wolf first attended Gen Con back in the dim mists of time. I expect he and I will pour one for Stewart Wieck at Major Goolsby’s, the first food place WW could afford to eat at (besides fast food) at the con.
At the con, we’ll have our booth in the exhibitor’s hall, and the Wrecking Crew will be running games throughout in the Oak Room. We also have our own table in the Oak Room, and we’ll have various Onyx folks demoing games there as well. Plus, there are our events, including the intimate Onyx Path Q&A in the Founders Room, which is like an Ask Me Anything but face-to-face. With drinks. I think that is sold out as it is a limited seating event, but we also have our Top Secret Announcement panel on Friday at 12 noon which is regular seating, I think, that will be a fun thing in itself, and a chance to ask us general questions, too!
Trinity Continuum art by Marco Mazzoni
And then there is the Summit.
Now this is not a new thing, but I found that doing it as we have been, after dinner one night at GenCon every year, was really not conducive to bringing forth sparkling fresh ideas. We were tired and full of dinner (and drinks), and often trying to squeeze the Summit in between other engagements. Not really the uber-focused strategy sessions we were looking for. But GenCon was the one time we were all already together, so it made sense. Of a kind.
This year, though, after looking at the possibilities, it just made more sense to switch our full attendance con to MidWinter and for everyone to stay over an extra day so we could really devote some intense time to our review and planning. The hotel prices and the con prices, and cooperation of the great folks from MidWinter (Hi, Anne and Bill!), really made this Summit something we could do at MidWinter this year.
Because, while we have learned to work quite well with email and texts and Skype, I think we sort of need to recharge our human communications batteries at least once a year in order to provide a physical memory or impression of folks so that we can draw on that connection when the emails fly back and forth fast and furious.
Vinsen’s Tomb art by Pat Loboyko
Ben Monk, the lead finance guy at WW for just years, used to love to quote that human communication was 87% body language. I think we could swing that percentage around a bit, but if it’s even a little bit so, then you’d think that only communicating with text would only impart so much info, and voice-only communication would be a bit better, and video-conferencing would be a bit better still. But not the full 87%, or whatever it is.
By getting together, we are reminded of all the other times we have been together over a lot of years. For good or ill, they are still shared experiences, and then those impressions of that person color and inform subsequent messages. Like have you ever read an email and could just hear the other person’s voice as you read it? That sort of thing.
So, we’ll be sitting around a conference room, and we’ve got some presentations prepared to share. We’re going to try to keep the grousing and gossiping about our industry down, but, we’ll see. Financial info, a look at the past year of releases, a little team building exercise using the dreaded Quadrants, how we can better prepare and actually train our developers, and then, as I like us to do as a group every year, we’ll discuss and decide on our release strategies for 2018 and into ’19.
Because at the end of the day, our joy is to put plans in place so we can create all these amazing games for all of you, and live up to our motto:
Many Worlds, One Path!
    BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER:
The Trinity Continuum Kickstarter will go live in a few weeks in January!     DRIVETHRURPG.COM:
This Wednesday, one of the most legendary of Kindred will share his personal journal with you! V20 Beckett’s Jyhad Diary goes on sale in PDF and PoD versions on DTRPG.com!
It’s ever been a loaded word among vampires. Jyhad is in force everywhere from lofty, perfumed Elysium to cloying, smoke-filled blood feasts. Jyhad’s the eternal game played by elders, Methuselahs, and worse — it’s the agenda of beings so utterly beyond humanity, one such as yourself could scarcely understand its movements.
Luckily for you, you’ve picked up a copy of my diary. With my help you may just take a step on the first rung of understanding. Information worth having is information you must earn through blood, and oh, how I’ve bled for what’s contained within these pages.
— Beckett

With a howl of RAGE, the W20 Changing Ways Advance PDF charges at you this Wednesday on DTRPG.com!
Changing Ways is an in-depth look at what it means to be a werewolf, both on a personal level and as part of a pack. It digs deep into what it feels like to have bones re-knit after breaking, the range of senses available across all forms, and the sudden heady rush of the Gifts and Rites bestowed by spirits. It also provides a look at what life is like for lupus and metis werewolves, characters who have had experiences alien to any person. It shows the many ways that werewolves organize in packs, and how those packs are designed as groups of warriors, rather than aligned to the behavior of wolves.
Changing Ways contains:
• A detailed look at what it means to grow up as a lupus or metis werewolf, and how that colors a character’s perspective.
• More information on what it feels like to be a werewolf, a creature that changes in both body and mind.
• Frameworks and organizations for packs, along with new tactics and systems for forging the pack as part of play.

          A Land Where Legends Walk
Drawing enthusiastically on Greek mythology, the revised and re-imagined Scarred Lands nonetheless retains its place as a modern fantasy RPG setting. This is a world shaped by gods and monsters, and only the greatest of heroes can expect to be counted among them. The most populous continent of Scarn, Ghelspad, plays host to vast unexplored regions, hides unsolved riddles from ancient cultures, and taunts adventures with the promise of undiscovered riches hidden among the ruins of older civilizations.
Yet the myths of the Scarred Lands are relatively recent events. The effects of the Titanswar still ripple through the world, and the heroines and villains of many of these stories are part of living memory, if not still living.
The Award-Winning Fantasy Setting Returns
Scarred Lands has been a favorite fantasy setting since the release of the Creature Collection for the d20 System in 2000. In subsequent years, over 40 titles were published for Scarred Lands, making it one of the most fully supported fantasy RPG settings ever and the premiere product line of Sword & Sorcery Studios.
Available in both 5th Edition and Pathfinder compatible versions! PDF and PoD formats available NOW!

The Melody of the Mulberries
(Big Creek Series, #2)
By Tonya Jewel Blessing
Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 248 Pages
September 1, 2019 by Capture Books
This sequel to The Whispering of the Willows is set in the late 1920s' Appalachia, where granny witches and spiritualism often show the path for wanderers to take, especially in matters of the heart.
This Big Creek sequel follows the lives and loves of two siblings. Coral determines to visit the family's nemesis, Charlie, now in prison for the rape of her sister, Emerald, and the murder of her inlaw. When Mercy re-enters brother Ernest's life, he has already found a new attraction in his elder brother's widow.
Coral sat in contemplation under a mulberry tree. It was spring, and the fragrant female blossoms promised the mid-summer arrival of first white, then pink, then crimson, and finally deep purple berries. The white berries were hard and tart and enjoyed by the quail, wild turkeys, mocking birds, and blue jays. The blackish purple berries were soft and sweet - perfect for pies and jams.
When the berries turned white, Coral would thank the good Lord for providing food for the birds. When the berries ripened she would thank the good Lord for the sweetness savored in her mouth and curse the birds for wanting more than their share.
Where Emerald Ashby's story leaves us in the last pages of The Whispering of the Willows, sixteen-year-old Coral Ashby's story begins. Like the changing mulberries, Appalachian siblings Coral and Ernest Ashby, navigate life through the late 1920s. Coral is determined to visit the family nemesis, Charlie, who now stews in prison.
When Ernest's previous love interest, Mercy, returns to the holler of Big Creek, she discovers that his heart is now singing a melody for Charlotte, the older Ashby brother's widow. But Mercy has brought along her own spiritual tools and a special friend who guides her way.
Accompanied by friends and foes, matters of the heart complicate life for Coral and Ernest. Relationships must be journeyed carefully.

EXCERPT: Charlie and Charley were coming to Big Creek. Charlie was a man. He had a spirit, soul, and body. He had grown up in the hills and been sent away because of the harm he had done to others. Coral had invited Charlie back to the holler. He wasn’t physically present, but, according to Emie, Coral might as well have sat him down at the table to enjoy Sunday family dinner. The other Charley was an evil spirit. He was ancient and from a faraway land but traveled with others when invited. His ways were frightening and mysterious. He was best left alone, but, had also been invited to Appalachia. Mercy, a returning resident, considered him a friend.

The Whispering of the Willows
(Big Creek Series, #1)
By Tonya Jewel Blessing
Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 396 Pages
February 2, 2016 by Capture Books
Young Emie isn't desperate for a man, but she is surrounded by a variety of them in the Appalachian holler of Big Creek. How does a young girl find her way, and grow strong, when life begins to spin out of control?
A 1920s' saga of Emerald Ashby coming of age.
Set against the superstitions and old time religion in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, author Tonya Jewel Blessing tells a difficult, yet redemptive story of a blossoming young woman who is accompanied by her friends and her foes on a journey towards hope and healing. Love weaves through gut-wrenching circumstances and dismal poverty where Emerald Ashby grows strong despite grievous wrongs committed against her. In this desperate historical setting, mysterious disappearances lead to traps set for the innocent.
Now, when key individuals begin carving out a rescue plan, Emerald Ashby sets a few of her own traps. It's a page turner. In this ailing town. What will be their measure of success?
Cleverly suspenseful and sweetly spoken, the storyteller's unassuming voice transforms an Appalachian trail of tears into holy terror against an evil that stalks the innocent. In The Whispering of the Willows, an Appalachian marriage practice might be compared to the modern sex trade which exploits young females.
Not since Catherine Marshall's strong heroine named Christy, has an Appalachian drama come to life like The Whispering of the Willows.
Includes: Bibliography and Book Club Questions. A novel for women examining the Old Time Religion. Coming of age in the Southern Appalachians. If you love a story where the underdog surfaces and thrives, you'll love this story.

Data Sheet—Explaining Congo’s Cobalt ‘Curse’
Feeling droopy. In the latest twist on drones and AI, IBM filed a patent for an autonomous flying vehicle that could deliver hot beverages to “those who appear to be in a ‘pre-determined cognitive state’ requiring coffee.” Sign me up.
TKO. After last month rejecting the Winklevoss brothers concept for a bitcoin exchange-traded fund, the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday offered similar reasons in nixing proposed digital currency funds from investment firms ProShares, GraniteShares, and Direxion. The requests failed to show how such funds could “prevent fraudulent and manipulative acts and practices,” the agency wrote.
Cleaning up the block. Under fire for failing to adequately police third-party apps on its service in the wake of the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook permanently banned the personality quiz app myPersonality. Facebook said myPersonality’s creators refused to cooperate with an audit of how they protected and shared app gathered by the app.
Shutterbug shift. Back in April, we mentioned that the two titans of photography, Canon and Nikon, were in danger of being disrupted by a new camera technology known as mirrorless. On Thursday, Nikon finally tried to match competitors with a couple of high-end mirrorless cameras of its own. The new $3,400 Z7 and $2,000 Z6 are said to be smaller and quieter than Nikon’s comparable traditional DSLR models. In a first impressions review, photog site DPReview found the Z7 to be “a pretty well-rounded do-everything camera.”
Under pressure. Stealthy self-driving car startup Zoox fired its CEO Tim Kentley-Klay. The co-founder tweeted that his board moved against him “without warning, cause or right of reply.” Zoox raised $500 million last month in a deal valuing the company at $3.2 billion.
Judging by the cover. As initially announced earlier this year, Walmart jumped into the declining ebook market on Wednesday, launching an online store in partnership with e-reader maker Kobo. Publishers set ebook prices and a quick check showed Walmart’s prices were identical to Amazon’s prices in its Kindle ebook store. James Patterson’s recent best seller Texas Rangers is $15 in both stores, while Jodi Picoult’s 2016 novel Small Great Things is $4, for example.
Chinese clicks. Speaking of retailing giants, Alibaba reported its revenue jumped 61% to $12.2 billion last quarter though adjusted earnings per share rose only 1% to $1.22. Both figures were slightly better than Wall Street expected. The company said it reached 576 million annual active customers in China, 4% more than a year earlier. Alibaba shares, up a measly 3% so far this year, gained another 4% in premarket trading on Thursday.

How to Start a Business When You’re an Introvert
Source: Entrepreneur.com
The business world seems like it caters to extroverts. And that makes sense: As a business owner, you need charisma to lead a team, negotiate with partners and engage with them regularly. In addition, you need to network with new people and improve your client relationships.
Related: 5 Mega-Successful Entrepreneurs Who Are Introverts
For an introvert, therefore, these responsibilities may seem intimidating, or even overwhelming, to deal with. Introverts tend to prefer quieter, solitary environments; but does that mean it’s impossible for them to be successful entrepreneurs?
Of course not. If you’re an introvert, you have your own strengths and weaknesses; and while you may have some extra challenges to overcome in business ownership, you’ll also have some extra advantages — if you know how to use them.
1. Choose your business category wisely.
Your first step is to choose your business carefully. Before you write up a business plan, think carefully about your idea and how it will relate to your personality and mental and emotional needs:
Play to your strengths. Not always, but often, introverts like to bury themselves in specific, individual tasks. For example, you might like to code applications at work, or, as a hobbyist, you might be an expert woodworker. In either case, you need to build a business that caters to your particular strengths. There’s almost certainly something you can do or something you know that extroverts won’t be able to match. So pinpoint it and exploit it.
Minimize interaction demand. When you start planning your business, opt for a model that doesn’t require much personal interaction. For example, you might want to avoid one-on-one consulting or training if you don’t enjoy socializing. You might also want to rely more on helpful tools to build your business than do other people.
Start small. Whatever your business is, start small. Hire only the people you need; that way, you can get used to your role gradually and avoid overloading yourself with new people and situations.
2. Find partners who’ll complement you.
If you’re strongly introverted, you’ll be better off finding business partners and employees who complement your personality and skill set. For example, if you hate the idea of making a sales pitch to a stranger and don’t like talking to people in general, team up with someone who’s strongly extroverted and straightforward, who likes having conversations.
Introversion is a collection of strengths and weaknesses, and extroversion is, too; so you’ll need a blend of both if you want your business to perform its best.
Related: An Introvert’s Guide to Communicating With Results
3. Create the environment you want.
This is your company. This is your brand. You get to define it and build it in any way you choose. Obviously, you have to consider the limits of practicality and what will work best for your business, but consider adopting policies and values that cater to your introverted nature. For example, if you prefer written communication to spoken communication, consider making your business fully remote, with all your employees working from home.
If you don’t like the idea of one-on-one sales meetings, opt for more inbound marketing strategies, to reach your revenue goals.
4. Use online networking and interaction.
If you don’t like to engage with people in the real world, maybe you can find your stride in online interactions. Instead of going out to networking events, for example, you can do the majority of your networking over social media. You can rely on emails and instant messages for the bulk of your interactions, and reserve in-person meetings for when you really need them.
There are some benefits to talking to people in person, so don’t be exclusive with online interactions.
5. Practice socializing.
While it’s definitely possible to be a solo entrepreneur, I don’t recommend it. Sooner or later, you’re going to have to socialize with other people, whether it’s partners, clients, employees or mentors. If you aren’t good at socializing, or prefer to avoid it, you’ll need to practice, to get your social game up. Conversation and interactions are skills, like anything else, and you can refine them if you spend time working on your abilities.
Start by attending more networking events, and talking to other attendees there. Also, develop new tactics for guiding conversations the way you want them to go. This may seem intimidating at first, but you’ll get the hang of it.
6. Learn to be uncomfortable.
There are a couple of important things to remember here. First, your introversion isn’t a curse — it’s a strength, if you know how to use it, and you need to be able to play to that strength. Second, no matter what, you’re going to face situations that make you uncomfortable as an introvert. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to become more comfortable with the idea of being uncomfortable.

It’s only through discomfort that we challenge ourselves to grow, learn new things and earn successes that only people dream of.

Yes, the red sands of Mars explode around your booted feet as you parry and lunge through the ruined courtyard of the ancient complex!
You must be in the world of Cavaliers of Mars!
Its Kickstarter starts tomorrow, 9/19 at 12 noon Eastern US time, and we hope to see you there! Not only will you get a chance to learn more about Rose Bailey’s new swashbuckling game, but you’ll also get a chance to meet Onyx Path‘s new Kickstarter runner: Jammin’ James Bell!
Jammin’ James is joining us to run and manage our Kickstarter efforts after many years in customer service, retail sales and management, and we know you’ll enjoy talking with him during each phase of our Kickstarters. Some of you might remember James as one of the founders of Fiery Dragon Games going as far back as the d20 craze of years ago, so not only does he know the business and customer service side of things, but he has a long love for tabletop RPGs and all forms of gaming!
Arms of the Chosen illustration by Gunship Revolution
Which brings up another addition to our little crew, but first, I want to digress and just go into the way Onyx Path is set up in regards to our projects and the developers who head up the projects.
From our beginning over five years ago, Onyx Path has been almost a central hub, if you will, with very few actual employees. But around that hub spin all of our game lines, and each of those has traditionally had a freelance developer and a team of freelance writers responsible for creating the text for each of the projects for that line.
Following the metaphor, because we must, Onyx Path as the hub at the center exerts a gravitational pull, but we have tried very much to give our developers and their teams the autonomy to create as they need to within the bounds and agreed upon parameters of that gravitational pull.
I’ve gotten the impression over the years that some of our community are imagining we’re some sort of Disney or Hasbro sort of corporation with departments issuing orders and exerting a micro-managing control over each and every stage of the creation process. That’s just not the case, and quite deliberately not that way.
How we do things has been based on the procedures for making our projects that we developed over decades at White Wolf. You could say that our book creation process is developer-driven, which I prefer to marketing or bottom-line driven creative processes.
W20 Changing Ways illustration by Brian LeBlanc
It’s not perfect, though, as some recent project and line-based adjustments have shown. While still holding to our creative emphasis, we’ve also been evolving and tweaking our development process and the role developers have in the making of our projects for the past several years. More recently, Onyx Path has been able to afford to bring on additional folks to help our developers do that voodoo that they do so well.
As part of this initiative to continue to evolve how we do our books, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that Fast Eddy Webb, our long-time co-worker, the guy who kept White Wolf actively publishing any tabletop RPG material at all during the CCP days, the creator of Pugmire, is coming on full-time at Onyx Path in order to add his considerable organizational and creative developer abilities to individual projects, but also to assist other developers with their projects, as well.
Don’t worry, he’s still running Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau, too!
Many Worlds, One Path.

From out of the Dreaming, the C20 Jumpstart: Yours To Keep PDF and PoD goes live on Wednesday on DTRPG.com!
The PDF and PoD versions of C20 are now on DriveThruRPG.com: http://ift.tt/2w4Eq2m
Twenty years ago, White Wolf published Changeling: the Dreaming, the fifth of their promised five game-lines that together comprised the World of Darkness. Seen by some as a lighter, more fantasy-based setting in the modern-day, and by others as the darkest game White Wolf had yet created, players had to face the question of what happens once creativity and magic fades from their world.
This 20th Anniversary Edition of Changeling: the Dreaming returns to that deceptively bright yet terrifying world and both compiles and completes the concepts of the previous two editions. Led by veteran White Wolf and Onyx Path developer “Blackhat” Matt McFarland, our writing team consists of longtime Changeling creators like Ian Lemke, Jackie Cassada, Nicky Rea, and Peter Woodworth, as well as familiar names such as John Snead, Maggie Carrol, Matthew Dawkins, and Krister Michl. One and all are dedicated to making Changeling: the Dreaming Twentieth Anniversary Edition the most playable edition yet – while not losing the wonder, awe, and majesty that Changeling is known for.
A revised and up to date look at the World of Darkness through the eyes of the Kithain – what has happened to the Dreaming in the last 20 years, and what is the state of Glamour and dreams?
Rules for all of the kiths including in 2nd ed, plus fan favorites from other books: selkies, piskies, clurichaun, and both Arcadian and Concordian sidhe.
Rules for the Gallain: The inanimae, the hsien, the Nunnehi, and others!
An overhauled and reimagined system for fae magic, including new Arts and the powerful but dangerous practice of Unleashing!
New full-color beautiful artwork as well as classic Changeling illustrations including remastered full page pieces of the kiths by Tony Diterlizzi.
Now available, this all-new Trinity Continuum: Aeon poster, featuring the art we used for the cover of the StoryPath Booklet at this year’s GenCon! http://ift.tt/2y2MOkm

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: After the Fall (Demon: The Descent Constantinople 1453-1458). The Ottoman conquest shatters Constantinople…and also the God-Machine’s grip on it. Unchained flock from all over the world to seek their fortunes in rebuilding the city. But is the Machine really gone, and if it is, can the Unchained face the horrors it drove into the shadows?

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: A Grimm Dark Era (Changeling: The Lost Grimm’s Tales). With the publication of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, the Lost find themselves subject to the strength of stories, to a degree never before seen. As numerous stories reach greater audiences, the power of tales redefine what it means to be a changeling. Here, we explore a shift in the veil between fiction and reality, and find changelings who escaped by embracing the odd rules of the fantastic.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: Lily, Sabre, and Thorn (Changeling: The Lost Swashbuckling France 1600s – early 1700s). In the Age of Reason under the reign of Louis XIV, enlightenment went hand-in-hand with court intrigues. The Sun King’s court influenced a time when changeling freeholds gained increasing unity and communication. It is a time of adventure, deception, betrayal, and passion — the roar of cannon, the rustle of silk, the ring of steel. The joys and sorrows and outrageous fortunes of the swashbuckler — these are all too well-known to the Lost.

This is the blog post I never, ever, expected to have to write.
My friend, Stewart Wieck, co-founder of White Wolf Magazine and White Wolf Game Studio, creator of Mage: The Ascension, and founder of Nocturnal Media, was finishing a light session of fencing last Thursday when he was struck down by a heart attack and died.
Even writing the above, putting it into cold black and white words, just rips me apart.
And frankly, that list up there of his accomplishments doesn’t even touch on the reality of the man, of his grace and kindness. It doesn’t speak of passion for writing, and creating, and learning. Of his dry wit and his silly side.
Most of all, it doesn’t speak of the sort of man who can decide that he was going to create in a field he loved, tabletop RPGs (back when we just called them RPGs, as there were no others), and made it happen step by step while inspiring others to come to his side and storm the walls of heaven.
Or the TSR castle at Gen Con, for those of you who remember that!
This looks suspiciously like Stew in a Gen Con ballroom.
I was one of those people, and in 1986, I sent in art in response to an ad Stew posted in Dragon Magazine looking for illustrators for his upstart White Wolf Magazine. We shared a love of comic books, genre fiction, and RPGs, but were really little alike. Except we both kept our commitments. I delivered the art, issue by issue as the circulation increased, and once Stew saw that I was going to do that with the same quality and regularity as he put forth in getting the writing in and the magazine out, he handed over the art direction duties to me as well.
We had a bad spot when a marketing guy Stew had begun working with to propel the magazine into what was supposed to be a huge increase in circulation ran out with all the ad payments. I thought the magazine was over. But Stew went back to every advertiser and somehow convinced them to pay again so that the issue could be printed. I couldn’t have done it, but that was Stewart Wieck – he could explain what needed to happen, and he was so sincere and so obviously a good guy, that people would jump in to help.
Without the magazine, Stew wouldn’t have been working closely with Lion Rampant when they were looking for a CEO to keep them rolling. I remember him calling and asking whether I thought he should accept their offer. I thought it was a no-brainer as he had “just graduated college, and a game company wants you to be their CEO? If you keep them afloat, you’re a hero – if you can’t, then nobody could have”.
Stew went one step better, though, and became a partner with Mark Rein*Hagen instead of just the CEO. Oh, and part of the deal was to change the company name to White Wolf Game Studio. Also, Mark had this interesting idea for an RPG: something to do with playing a vampire…
Stewart and Mark in Stew’s office at WW.
Now, I say that kind of lightly, but the reality is that without Stewart adding both his creative talents (vampires being descended from Cain is just one of his contributions) and his head for business, it is entirely possible that Vampire: The Masquerade would never have been published. And beyond that, his wit and grace and patience provided a center to the WW creative team – a calm in the center of a storm of egos, passions, and crazed creative impulses that could have torn the young company apart.
For years, Stew had the idea that I needed to come down to Atlanta and art direct the company, and for years I let him know that I would need a real salary that we both knew just wasn’t possible. I had a little girl I was raising by myself, and was working a full-time job, and teaching, and doing freelance work, of which WW was my biggest client.
In December of 1991, he called me up, and the first thing out of his mouth was, “Rich, we can do it. Vampire is huge, we are reprinting it as fast as it is selling out, and next year it’s time to bring you down here.”
Which was great, except, like I said, I was raising my little girl by myself, I had a house and dogs, and all of my support systems were where we were. As well as a girlfriend that I had been dating for only a month. To put it bluntly, I was scared shitless. But I trusted Stewart Wieck. He had never let me down. He told me it would be OK.
We were in ATL and I was in charge of all WW visuals and production in May of ’92.
Keith Winkler, Stew, Ken Cliffe and his chest, Steve Wieck, and me at a WW company retreat.
White Wolf grew, exploded really, and Stew was not just riding herd on all of the expanding crew, he was creating the third game in the World of Darkness, Mage: The Ascension. A game where you change the world by exerting your will and beliefs upon it. Go figure that’s what this guy would come up with.
With three wildly successful games powering the company, and his equally creative and business-savvy brother Steve brought on as CEO, Stewart decided to pursue his dream of WW also being a fiction publishing house. New fiction work for our RPG lines, and also new experimental offerings that might not have been published by the mainstream houses. And my favorite part, republishing the giants that he and I had read so avidly in our early years. Fritz Liebers’s Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser stories, the legendary Harlan Ellison, and the ultimate delight of working with Michael Moorcock and republishing his Eternal Champion novels, including the legendary Elric. Also known as the White Wolf. We had come full circle.
Always, it was Stew who made the deals possible. Stew who juggled what could be done with what needed to be done, and who any of us could go to for a calming talk when things got too crazy. I certainly did!
But nothing lasts forever. Working with writers took up time for writing. And if anybody deserved a chance to recover their personal Muse, it was Stew. He was still connected to WW and working on projects, still always, always, available to talk over phone or email (we would have loved Skype then), but he stepped back from the day to day struggles.
Until, several years ago, he was back! Back with Nocturnal Media, a new company he founded. We immediately went in together on buying the Scarred Lands property from CCP as we had both helped create it back in the day and wanted to team-up again like we had done so many times. And the Stew who could pull publishing deals together returned as well, as both older creators and younger became part of Nocturnal‘s creative circle.
This year at Gen Con, he and I were looking forward to sharing our booth space, our respective companies shoulder to shoulder, he and I shoulder to shoulder once again.
But it was not to be.
Over the years, Stew and I exchanged so many messages. Emails and letters and packages. But most importantly, for years and years he’d send me a message on the anniversary of my first wife’s death, just to let me know he remembered. He always signed them, “Your friend, Stewart Wieck”.
Goodbye, my friend.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: Requiem for Regina (Vampire: The Requiem Elizabethan London 1593). We have shared the world with monsters for millennia. In Elizabeth’s London, vampires built their own empire brick by bloody brick while Elizabeth I cemented her grip on newly Protestant England. Carefully balancing demands from those with Catholic and Lutheran sympathies, she forged a police state. Yet London emerged as a thriving cultural center, and from the crucible emerged a Kindred society forever changed.

In the rise and fall of Alexander the Great’s Empire, armies marched and cultures clashed. In the birth pangs of Hellenistic civilization, Awakened sorcerers all over the ancient world met, fought, and joined together. In the chaos of Alexander’s assassination and the wars that followed, Cults became Orders amid conflicts still burning in the present day.

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: Three Kingdoms of Darkness (Changeling and Geist China 220-280). Famine weakens the empire, and war splits it apart. It is an age of ambition and strife, where the hungry dead walk the earth in great numbers, and the Lost must rely on their own kingdoms. Warlords and commoners, ghost-speakers and orphans — who truly serves the Mandate of Heaven?

From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: The Wolf and the Raven (Werewolf and Geist Vikings 700-1100). The Viking expansion across Europe comes at a pivotal time in history, as new faiths rose to challenge the old and new ways threatened to sweep ancient tradition aside. The Forsaken sail with raiders and explorers, seeking new lands to claim and new spirits to conquer, while Sin-Eaters walk the battlefields bringing the honored dead to their final rewards. The world grows larger and more dangerous by the day, but there are great rewards for those brave enough to fight for them.

Once, in the time before the gods forgot their names, when the world was flat and floated on a sea of chaos, there was an age of gleaming cities, untamed wilderness, enlightened devils, greedy spirits, and mighty heroes. This was the age of the Exalted, champions empowered by the highest of gods.
Tomb of Dreams will jumpstart your group’s Exalted game—all you need to start playing Exalted Third Edition is this book, pencils, and 10-sided dice. Included here are the game’s core rules, five pregenerated characters, and a self-contained scenario that can start a new campaign or that Storytellers can use in an ongoing chronicle. And for groups that already have the Exalted Third Edition main rulebook, Tomb of Dreams will serve as an introduction for new players and a quick reference during play—anyone intimidated by that prodigious volume need only read Part 1 of this book to get started.
What legends will they tell of your deeds?
Sailing out of the dark, the V20 Dark Ages Companion Advance PDF is now on sale on DriveThruRPG.com! http://ift.tt/2pX42dq
Travel the long roads and deep seas in search of power and experience danger, or tackle the wilderness to hunt monsters and face death. Settlements large and small dot the black expanse with the promise of sanctuary, life, and community. These bastions of civilization present cold comfort, when playing host to vampire warlords and sadistic Cainite faiths. Whether led by a Prince, a coordinated belief, or hounded by monsters from without and within — no domain is truly the same as another.
Dark Ages Companion includes:
• Domains scattered across the world, from small fiefdoms to massive cities. Bath, Bjarkarey, Constantinople, Rome, Mogadishu, and Mangaluru each receive coverage.
• Apocrypha including plot hooks, new Paths, and mysteries to explore in your games.
• A how-to guide on building a domain within your chronicle, including events and servants necessary to make a domain as functional or dysfunctional as you wish.
• A study on warfare in the Dark Ages period, so combat in your chronicles can gain authenticity and lethality.
Bill Bridge’s new W20 novel, The Song of Unmaking, is on sale in PDF/ePub/PoD versions on DriveThruRPG.com: http://ift.tt/2qXQH9f and in ebook form on Amazon: http://ift.tt/2qpQM2V !
The fabric of reality is cracking. Fissures appear in thin air, glowing with balefire. Something is scratching on the other side, pressing, beginning to break through….
The Wyrm’s corruption finds its way into the hearts of humans and Garou alike. Even an ultra-rational techno-cratic scientist can fall sway to its lies. Channeling his hate and resentment through the most sophisticated machine ever created, Basil Czajka has turned a tool designed to peer deep into the heart of the quantum universe into a nursery for the hatching of a horror — a creature whose birth cry is destined to unmake Gaia’s Song of Creation.
The only ones standing in his way are One-Song, a broken-down old Theurge, and Lord Albrecht, whose heed-less anger might be the very weapon the enemy needs to crack the egg and free the Unmaker.
The Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras Companion has arrived in PDF and PoD physical book versions at DriveThruRPG.com! http://ift.tt/2pygIL7
The Dark Eras Companion presents eleven new Eras for the Chronicles of Darkness. Stretching from Ancient Rome and Egypt through the Black Death, the Thirty Years War, the Reconstruction, and the Russian Revolution, the Companion showcases even more of the secret history of this eldritch world. Included in each era are “snapshots” of the various supernatural creatures, including vampires, changelings, mummies, and demons. Also included are lists of inspirational media to help you put these Eras in context for your troupe.
Open the Dark Eras Companion and take another look back in time.

So, it is one month before Gen Con.
Gen Con50th, actually.
You can see on the map above our 20′ x 30′ space, that we are sharing with our associates at Nocturnal Media and White Wolf. Our booth will have all sorts of books and other items for sale, an ongoing demo table that we intend to have a constant run of demos happening on every day that you can sit in on, and a further couple of tables for impromptu demo sessions.
Nocturnal will be right next to us, and they’re bravely trying to arrange demos and they will have products to sell, and White Wolf is next to them, and will have new news about V5 and related products, and I hear they may have other goodies especially for Gen Con.
Back at our Onyx Path booth, you’ll find Boppin’ Bill Bodden and Mike Hollywood running the booth under the baleful eye of Mighty Matt McElroy – they are the guys that with the know how as to what and who is where when it comes our products for sale and the rest of the team.
At different times, Mirthful Mike Chaney, Onyx‘s ever-lovin’ art director will be there helping out, and he has portfolio reviews scheduled if you want us to look at your artwork. Impish Ian Watson, our webmaster and Trinity Continuum guru will also be at the booth a fair amount of the time and he’d love to talk Trinity!
Development producer Rollickin’ Rose Bailey will also be in the booth between developer and translator meetings, and she might just have some Chronicles of Darkness and Cavaliers of Mars wisdom and demos to share with you. Naughty Neall Raemonn Price will be representing for Scion and just about any other of our games as he seems to know them all, and Matthew “Gentleman Gamer” Dawkins also has a wide knowledge of our games to share, particularly V20, as well as his new secret project he’ll be demoing at the booth!
Scarred Lands developer Scott Holden will be there, and we’re hoping he’ll be running demos as well as showing off the advance copies of the printed SL Players Guides and Wise and the Wicked 2. More news on Scarred Lands below.
Look out for Hunter: the Vigil 2nd developer Monica Valentinelli dropping in when she can, as well as other writers and devs who will try and drop by in between their busy schedules at other booths, like Black Hat Matt McFarland, Danielle Lauzon, Bill Bridges, Dixie Cochran, and many more.
Of course, I’ll be popping in and out of the booth talking to folks between panels and meetings. Catch me in a quieter time and I’ll be glad to sign some Magic cards (for a small gratuity).

Did I say panels? Well, of course we’re doing our famous panels for Gen Con again this year!

As always, times and rooms are subject to change by the lovable scamps at Gen Con.
And if you want to actually play our games, look out for our Onyx Path gaming room, once again run by the legendary Dave Martin and his dedicated and dangerous Wrecking Crew and associates.
This year, since it will be crazy with all the 50th Anniversary activities and crowds, how about you let us know in the comments here if you’re going? We’ll make sure to do something special for you if you do get to stop in and say hi!
War Elephants by Melissa Uran for Hundred Devil’s Night Parade
In the run-down of the booth I did above, I mentioned how Nocturnal Media is bravely going to soldier on as best they can, and of course, I was talking about that in reference to the untimely passing of my good friend Stewart Wieck, Nocturnal‘s founder. His death has unfortunately had ramifications on the many directions he was hoping to take Nocturnal Media‘s game lines, but I understand that a bunch of them will still be available in their booth.
The most direct effect on us at Onyx, on a business level, is that we’ve had to step into Stew’s huge shoes (I mean that literally and figuratively – he was a big guy) and take over fulfilling the Scarred Lands Kickstarter and all the projects we started with that.
For the present, I’ve been delving into how Stew had structured the SL Kickstarter and BackerKit, and working with Steve Wieck and Stew’s family to make sure the printing and shipping of all those projects keeps moving forward. We won’t be able to sell the Scarred Lands books at Gen Con as Stewart hoped he’d be able to arrange, but we’ll have advances and demos, like I mentioned above.
Towards that, we’re releasing the PDF for the Dagger of Spiragos, the second part of our Spiragos adventure trilogy, this week. Our KS backers have already received theirs (if they were supposed to get them), so now everyone can check it out. On a personal level, I loved painting those skeletal gators on the cover! (See below in the BLURBS! for more details).
For the future, since Scarred Lands was always a game world we co-owned and which Stew and I always intended as something we’d have fun working on together, this is kind of a bittersweet experience. But, the world is still one of my favorites, and we still have lots of plans for bringing this new version of SL to a new audience, as well as to our community from the D20 days.
We’ll be announcing some of those plans at and around Gen Con, so keep an eye out!
Finally, I just wanted to shout out to our new friends at Studio2, who are currently packaging and prepping our Pugmire backer rewards ship-out! I’ll tell you more about these folks in a later blog, as I’ll let you in on the very awesome way they are going to work with us in the very near future.

CREATING A CHRONICLE IS REWARDING…
…so why should the Storyteller have all the fun?
The whole troupe should get in on the action, making for a chronicle that reflects the preferences and predilections of all the players.
Building a Legend is a guide for doing exactly that — making a cohesive chronicle, starting with character creation, for Beast: The Primordial. It includes advice on creating Storyteller characters, folding in real world history, and populating the Primordial Dream.

What dark secrets do the eldest vampires hold? Find out in Thousand Years of Night for Vampire: The Requiem! Advance PDF version available now on DriveThruRPG.com. http://ift.tt/2sV8lZR
You may think that with a multitude of people coming, going, dying and running away, we’d be tired, done, or ready to give up. Instead, I find myself restless, looking for the next thing.  There’s always a next thing, and I for one am not yet ready to die.
– Elder Kincaid, Daeva Crone
This book includes:
• Detailed instructions on creating elder vampires, including how to base chronicles around them
• A look into the lives of elders, how they spend their nights, who they work with, and why including their roles in both their clans and covenants
• New Devotions, Merits, and Rituals for elder vampires
• The kinds of creatures that pose a threat to elder vampires, including Inamorata, Lamia, Sons of Phobos, a new elder conspiracy, and more
From the massive Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras main book, we have pulled this single chapter, Dark Eras: To The Strongest (Mage Death of Alexander 330-320 BCE).

On sale in PDF and physical copy PoD versions on DTRPG!
On sale in PDF and physical copy PoD versions on DTRPG! http://ift.tt/2rp8hPL

Curated by Matthew McFarland, developer of Changeling: the Dreaming Twentieth Anniversary Edition and featuring authors such as Myranda Kalis, Wren Handman, and Peter Woodworth, this C20 Anthology of Dreams is on sale in electronic/PDF and physical copy PoD formats on DTRPG.com! http://ift.tt/2snBT0X
We dream, and we tell stories. We dream of love and the sort of person who might complete us. We dream of horror and wake breathless. We dream of magic, of flying through the air, or breathing underwater. We dream of fantastic vistas and amazing monsters.
We dream, and then we wake, and we tell stories. Our dreams create the Kithain, the changelings. Our stories are sustenance.
Now on DTRPG, the EX3 Tomb of Dreams Jumpstart PDF/PoD jumps up for sale!
