What I disliked the most about this World Cup final was the crowd. There was no response, no cheers, no enthusiasm.
Team India lacked confidence yesterday right from the beginning, because they knew the pitch wasn't what they would've liked, but still they gave their best, and the least they deserved was and INDIAN crowd cheering for them.
I saw a video this morning of the crowd in Wankhede during the semi-final, poking fun at Surya when he was fielding at the boundary, asking him to bowl. It wasn't much, maybe even distracting him from his job for a moment but it made him smile. It made him realise people were confident enough in the team's abilities to joke during a tense moment in the game.
If you love cricket enough to go watch a match in a stadium, you'll know the confidence Bumrah gets when the crowd chants 'Boom Boom'. And that's what should have been done with each ball.
When you trust Siraj, Kuldeep and Shami's abilities enough, then cheer at each one of their balls. Even if they're lacking in confidence for a moment, let them know that the billion people who back them never doubted them.
The pitch wasn't the best for batting on, and yet Rohit, Virat and Rahul gave their best. It was slow, but they tried, and none of us watching the match could have done that. The crowd should have screamed even when they got a single or defended a tough ball, because they deserve to know how much we appreciate them for the joy they bring us.
Shubman, Shreyas and Jaddu weren't at their best with the bat, but they tried so hard with the fielding. Every time they dived for the ball, every time they stopped a single, they should have been cheered on.
Ishan, Shardul, Hardik, Prasidha and Ashwin didn't even play, but watching the crowd cheer on the team mates despite seeing the conditions would have made them happy, and their smiles would have made the eleven on the field believe in themselves more.
When Cummins had openly declared that he wanted to silence the crowd, then it was the responsibility of every single person in the crowd to fight his challenge. It was their job to stay until the last ball, to instill hope in our boys till the very end. Maybe it could have made our team more confident, and theirs a bit afraid. Maybe things would have been different right now.

Iyer, Jaiswal, and Rohit will not play in Mumbai's crucial Ranji Trophy match.
In the run-up to the England ODI series early next month, Mumbai will not have India internationals Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer in the next round of the Ranji Trophy. Iyer played nearly the whole domestic season, including two white-ball tournaments, while the Mumbai trio had previously participated in the previous round, which Kohli and Rahul did not. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, for example, will be included in the upcoming round beginning January 30. Four days following the planned conclusion of the final Ranji Trophy round, on February 6, the ODI series against England begins in Nagpur.
Tumblr media
After the BCCI's new rules required playing domestic cricket, Rohit and Jaiswal, who open together in Test matches as well, opened for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the previous round. Following India's back-to-back series defeats to Australia and New Zealand, which prevented the team from qualifying for the World Test Championship final, the board issued the directive, particularly because India's batting lineup was unable to produce significant runs. With an average of a pitiful 10.93 this season and just 164 runs from his previous 15 Test innings, Rohit in particular has been one of the worst of the group. When he batted for Mumbai, his luck didn't improve; he only managed to score 3 and 28 against J&K.
Jaiswal too had a poor Test season, scoring two half-centuries and a century in Australia after four fifties at home, but he still only managed low scores of 4 and 26.
However, this Ranji season, Iyer has been Mumbai's highest scorer. He averaged 68.57 and scored 480 runs from seven innings, including two hundreds. Additionally, he recently scored two undefeated hundreds in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy. Additionally, he scored 345 runs at 188.52 in the 20-over Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which he won.
Shivam Dube, an all-rounder who joined the India T20I team just after Mumbai's match against J&K concluded, would also not be playing for Mumbai.
All-rounders Atharva Ankolekar and Suryansh Shedge, who won Player of the Match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, as well as batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi are back in the squad for the last league match against Meghalaya. Mumbai is probably going to rely on the youthful opening duo of 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre and Raghuvanshi, who has already started his first domestic season with an impressive record of four hundreds and two half-centuries in 18 innings across first-class and List A formats.
Mumbai, the reigning champions, are in a difficult position to get to the Ranji knockout stages as they are ranked third in Group A, behind J&K and Baroda. They must win their final match against Meghalaya.
Mumbai squad
Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Siddhesh Lad, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester D'Souza, Royston Dias, Shreyas Gurav and Atharva Ankolekar

[ad_1] Shardul Thakur for Mumbai (PC: MCA/X) He isn’t in the Indian set-up anymore. Neither is he part of the IPL. From being the toast of the nation to being out in the wilderness, Shardul Thakur has seen it all. No one calls him Lord anymore, and the honeymoon is over. A long period out because of injury hasn’t helped, and Lord is no longer the headline. And yet, he does his job with passion and commitment. Just like he did yesterday against Jammu and Kashmir. Mumbai were reeling when Shardul walked out, and despite an injury, he made sure that they reached a competitive score in the second innings. With shots all around the ground, he forced J&K to turn defensive, and has now given Mumbai a decent chance to win the game. There is a saying that if you are talented, Mumbai doesn’t let you return empty-handed. Shardul’s story started in 2006. Dinesh Lad, the cricket coach of Swami Vivekananda International School, had been frantically calling one Narendra Thakur for at least six months, but each time his proposal was met with stiff resistance. Narendra Thakur was a vegetable farmer from Palghar, a district on the western line around 90 kms from the metropolis. Lad had watched Thakur’s teenage son Shardul perform at an inter-school event and wanted the 14-year-old to join his school. Lad, a former Western Railway cricketer, is a disciple of the great Ramakant Achrekar. He was Achrekar’s student in the late 1970s and early ’80s. Just like his guru had an eye for talent, and the ability to convince parents to get their wards to enrol with Sharadashram Vidyamandir, Lad would also venture out on a talent hunt in and around Mumbai after the Borivali school’s management entrusted him with the responsibility of building a competitive cricket team. In trying to do so, he spotted a young Shardul, who defied his slight build to bowl reasonably quick and could also put wood to leather with a lot of conviction. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Shardul Thakur in the Ranji Trophy (PC: MCA/X) “I called up Shardul’s father at least 20 times in those six months, and every time he would politely tell me ‘Sir, hum apne bachhe ko roz paanch ghante ka safaar nahin karwayenge. Uska padhai thik se nahi ho payega [Sir, we won’t make our kid travel five hours a day. His studies will suffer].’” It was what any other middle-class Indian parent would tell a games teacher. In India, most people have their personal “Eureka” moment over a cup of steaming hot tea while discussing monthly budgets with their spouse. One evening, while he was sitting with his wife Deepali, Lad asked her if she would mind if he decided to let young Shardul stay with them in the house. “If you feel that’s the right thing to do, I have no problems” was Mrs Lad’s answer. The next moment, Lad was again on the phone with Narendra, but this time he had a fresh proposal. “Will you be okay if Shardul stays at my place, studies at Swami Vivekananda, and takes cricket coaching?” he asked. “I feel he will play a decent level of cricket in coming years.” It was Lad’s last throw of the dice, and this time Thakur senior was taken aback, but not dismissive. Narendra eventually agreed, and thus began the Shardul story. Can he make a comeback into the national team? Will he find a way back to the IPL? These are questions we don’t have answers to. But for Mumbai, he is still ‘Lord’. Ask Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, and you will have your answer. Mumbai Win Irani Cup After 27 Years Kotian Shines with a Century
Mumbai lifted the Irani Cup for the first time since the 1997-98 season, thanks to a remarkable unbeaten century by Tanush Kotian on the fifth and final day. Mumbai secured victory on the basis of their first-innings lead after the match ended in a draw against Rest of India. Match Summary: Key Scores Mumbai: 537 (Sarfaraz Khan 222, Ajinkya Rahane 97, Mukesh Kumar 5-110) and 329/8 decl (Kotian 114, Prithvi Shaw 76, Saransh Jain 6-121) Rest of India: 416 (Abhimanyu Easwaran 191, Dhruv Jurel 93, Kotian 3-101) Mumbai’s dominance in the first innings set the stage for victory, with standout performances from Sarfaraz Khan and Kotian, who played critical roles in both innings. /    Tanush Kotian’s Record-Breaking Performance Batting at No. 8, Tanush Kotian delivered an unbeaten 114 off 150 balls, anchoring Mumbai to a commanding lead of 450 runs. Notably, he became the first player in Irani Cup history to score fifties in both innings while batting at No. 8 or lower: 1st Innings: 64 runs 2nd Innings: 114* Kotian struck 10 fours and 1 six during his resilient innings, showcasing his ability to bat under pressure. How the Fifth Day Unfolded Mumbai resumed Day 5 with a 274-run lead, with Kotian and Sarfaraz Khan at the crease. However, Rest of India’s Saransh Jain made early inroads: Sarfaraz Khan was trapped lbw in the fourth over. Shardul Thakur followed quickly, stumped off Saransh. At 6 wickets down, Mumbai’s lead looked substantial but not insurmountable. Enter Mohit Awasthi. Kotian and Awasthi’s Match-Saving Partnership Tanush Kotian and Mohit Awasthi batted with grit, adding 158 runs across 200 balls, ensuring Mumbai’s control over the game. Awasthi scored his maiden first-class half-century with a composed knock, hitting 4 fours and 1 six. Despite Rest of India using 8 bowlers, including unconventional options like Ishan Kishan and Sai Sudharsan, Mumbai remained unfazed. Saransh Jain’s Effort Goes in Vain Offspinner Saransh Jain was Rest of India’s standout bowler in the second innings, claiming a brilliant 6-wicket haul. However, his efforts couldn’t prevent Mumbai from stretching their lead and sealing the title. Mumbai’s Victory: 27 Years in the Making The last time Mumbai won the Irani Cup was in the 1997-98 season, a testament to their historic dominance in domestic cricket. Under pressure, the team demonstrated a blend of youth and experience, with players like: Sarfaraz Khan: Double century in the first innings (222). Tanush Kotian: A match-defining all-round performance (64 & 114). Key Highlights from the Match Sarfaraz Khan’s unbeaten 222 set the foundation for Mumbai’s first-innings total of 537. Tanush Kotian emerged as Mumbai’s hero with two crucial knocks. Saransh Jain’s brilliant 6-121 couldn’t turn the game for Rest of India. Mumbai declared with a 450-run lead, forcing Rest of India to settle for a draw. What’s Next for Mumbai? Mumbai’s Irani Cup triumph not only ends their 27-year drought but also reinforces their dominance in Indian domestic cricket. Emerging talents like Tanush Kotian and experienced hands like Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan highlight Mumbai’s promising future. Conclusion Mumbai’s victory in the 2024 Irani Cup will be remembered for Tanush Kotian’s heroics, a gritty fightback, and dominant first-innings performances. This win marks a historic milestone, showcasing Mumbai’s unyielding spirit in Indian cricket. More: https://cricinfo.cc/mumbai-win-irani-cup-after-27-years-kotian-shines-with-a-century/

We have different personalities, yet we (Gill and I) fit each other nicely. Good, we will win. Not much to say here. For years, Kohli has been doing this. When we lost a few wickets, he and Jadeja dragged us back. Though it wasn't clinical today, fielding is our pride. Among fielders worldwide, Jadeja is among the best. These occurrences occur. We already know that fielding will determine a lot going ahead. We enjoy travelling and playing in many corners of the earth. New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs India National Cricket Team Match Scorecard: Tom Latham on the Game Tom Latham: "We performed nicely but missed opportunities in the last ten overs. To India, credit We failed to produce the double breakthrough. Rachin and Mitchell had a fantastic working relationship that would help us through the last stretch. Our gang is quite good. Daryl with the century and Rachin with the bat performed, admittedly. Before the next game, we get a few days off. We try to do excellent deeds”. It's essential to support your peers. The team must do well. It was important to get those late scores. This makes me happy because it means India is now in first place in the table. What could New Zealand have done better? Their fifth bowling choice doesn't look perfect. They can avoid having spinners like Ravindra and Phillips play crucial overs when the weather is good. But they need a different plan when the conditions are suitable for hitting. Even though Boult and Henry were teasing the edges, they didn't get any early catches. Ferguson took a few wickets, but Rohit and Gill hit softballs. They left a few runs on the table in their turn to bat. Mitchell slowed down for a short time before he hit 100. After his hundred, he couldn't speed up. India's Fielding Woes In what ways could India have done extra? Their defence wasn't excellent. Both the catches and the fielding on the ground were terrible. The centre could have helped this. While India needed five runs, Kohli made a mistake by not taking the single and going out. However, he is given the benefit of the doubt. Since hundreds are more valuable in the World Cup, Indian players have worked harder to get them. Read the full article

[ad_1] Shardul Thakur celebrating his century for Mumbai (PC: Naman Suri) Naman Suri in Mumbai, Maharashtra A sensational match-saving century by Shardul Thakur, in partnership with Tanush Kotian, rescued Mumbai from a dire position of 101/7 here at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC, Mumbai. The duo’s heroic efforts propelled Mumbai to a lead of 188 runs against Jammu & Kashmir, heading into the final two days of the game. It was another challenging start to the day for Mumbai’s star batters. After bowling out Jammu & Kashmir for 206 early in the morning, Mumbai began their second innings with a deficit of 86. The pitch offered bounce and lateral movement, testing the Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Despite the tough conditions, the duo started aggressively, notching up 50 runs in the first 10 overs, though the J&K bowlers consistently beat the bat. As the bowlers tightened their lines, Rohit adopted a cautious approach but mistimed a shot to midwicket while trying to accelerate, sparking a collapse. Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, and Shivam Dube all fell before lunch, leaving Mumbai effectively at 0 for 5 in practical terms as they struggled to overcome J&K’s first-innings lead. Building on their partnership from Day 1, they forged an even stronger and more aggressive stand. Shardul delivered one of his grittiest knocks in Mumbai colors, enduring visible pain to notch up a magnificent century off just 105 balls, studded with 15 boundaries. It marked only his second First-Class ton. Shardul’s twin match-saving innings, alongside Tanush, will give IPL franchises and selectors plenty to think about. The all-rounder last played red-ball cricket for India in December 2023 against South Africa and went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction, with teams shifting focus away from all-rounders due to the advent of the impact player rule. Tanush Kotian, Shardul’s partner in both innings, also rose to the occasion, doubling his first-innings score to record a vital half-century. Together, the duo sparked a remarkable fightback for Mumbai, who now hold a lead exceeding 150 runs. Day 3 promises to be an exciting encounter. Mumbai vs J&K, Day 2: Mumbai ended the day at 274/7 (Shardul 113*, Tanush 58*), leading Jammu & Kashmir (Nabi 3-69, Y Singh 2-63) by 188 runs.
