summary: the one where ej and andy get to spend time together in the camp until the production gets in the way, threatening to ruin their summer and relationship

Andy and some of their friends, snuck into Ricky's cabin the next morning, yelling happy birthday.

It was their best friend tradition and she laughed as he jumped up in fear, a smile on his face. It was a little more exciting than hers yesterday after that debacle.

That's when Big Red ran in with a cake, half for Andy and half for Ricky. It was a surprise to both of them

"We've spent every joint birthday together since pre-school, how could I ever miss your birthdays," he said.

Even though Andys was yesterday, her and Ricky would always have a shared party for monetary reasons, it was cheaper for one balloon castle then two or one game of laser tag then two.

He hugged Andy and Ricky, the two blowing out their candles on the cake.

Andy stood back stage later that evening in hwr Anna costume as EJ walked in, "There's my beautiful Anna," He said, taking her hand and spinning her around, "You're gonna be brilliant, hope I didn't keep you up too late last night,"

She fake yawned, "I think the shadow puppets really put me over the edge," she joked. She loved just being able to talk to him all night and spend time with him again, like home.

That's when Channing came in, ruining the fun, "Hello campers, there are 10 cameras planted in random places in the theater, it all comes down to tonight," he explained.

Andy was already nervous enough but to know that there are hidden cameras everywhere is even worse.

"We will be live streaming tonight's frozen performance on Disney plus to drum up anticipation for the documentary," Channing explained, "I'm gonna shake up the show, right,"

"We can do that!" EJ exclaimed and everyone looked at him, horrified, "We won't disappoint you Channing,"

Everyone gasped, shocked that they were going to actually follow on what he was doing.

"Why would you say that!" Everyone exclaimed, talking over each other in shock.

"Settle down, I was just acting to get that jerk off our backs. We're theater kids and we're going to do things our way, final decision," he said.

His pep talk seemed to cheer them all up, making everyone excited for the show.

"You sure you're okay with that, you've worked so hard and if we're not trending in Braz-" she started and he cut her off with a shrug.

"Thats tomorrow's problem. Tonight I'm gonna sit there and watch my girlfriend ace this," he said, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

The show was going smoothly from the second it started. Everyone aced their performances and the audience seemed to love it.

Whenever she'd go backstage, EJ would tell her that everyone online was loving the show.

Kourtney was midway through her breathtaking performance of let it go when the lights were cut off.

Andy looked around, unsure of what to do as everyone backstage panicked, trying to find out why the lights went off.

Miss Jenn held up her phone light in the audience, everyone else following after her to illuminate the room.

Hesitantly, Kourtney started to sing again, her voice reaching the same power as before.

Gina and Andy stormed off after noticing that Channing was missing. They made it to the breaker where Gina switched it back on again.

"You're lucky Ginas here or Channing, you would be so dead right now," Andy said before the girls rushed back to watch the end of Kourtneys performance.

The lights had come back on and luckily it hadn't ruined her song. Instead, people on the live stream were saying how amazing it was that she had the courage to keep going.

"You okay Ands?" EJ whispered in her ear as he noticed how tense she was, his hands gently rubbing over her shoulders.

"Yeah, just mad," she replied. He nodded, wrapping his arms around her waist and feeling her relax into his touch.

"I've got you," he said. She smiled, leaning her head back as they watched the rest of Kourtneys performance.

During the thirty minute interval, EJ and Andy sat in his cabin, the two of them relishing in the peacefulness for a second before they had to go back to the group.

He had decided that he wanted to call his dad and let him know that he wasnt leaving Salt Lake.

He couldn't jeopardise his relationship with Andy or his plans for the future and he wouldn't let his father get in the way of that.

"You got this Eej," she said, watching as his finger hovered over the call button, "Do you want me to?"

He nodded and she took the phone from his hand, clicking the button and handing it back to him.

They sat down and Andy took his hand in hers, rubbing the pad of her thumb over his knuckles just like he always would.

She saw him take a deep breath as his dad answered the phone, "Hey dad, it's me. We're in the interval right now and I fooled myself into thinking you'd be here,"

He chuckled to himself, shaking his head. He knew why Andys family wasn't here and it was because of her mum and he understood. She'd actually called earlier that morning to wish them luck.

"I know you think this is the waste of my time but just once in my life I wanna hear you saw you're proud of me," he said, "Just, I'm proud of you EJ, how hard is that,"

He froze when he heard the sound of a phone being hung up.

He scoffed, "He hung up," he said, trying to sound steady but he just sounded defeated.

She pulled him in for a hug, feeling as he pressed his head into the crook of her neck, trying to stop the tears from falling.

"Listen to me," she said, pulling away to look at him, "I think you're amazing. You've given up your summer, our summer, to make this show perfect for us and our friends,"

She reached over, wiping a tear from his cheek when she saw it slip past his waterline. It broke her heart to see him like this.

She could hear his shaky breaths and ran a hand over his back, wondering if he would have another panic attack.

"I'm proud of you. I'm amazed that you're my boyfriend, I'm so lucky every day - except for a few this week," she said and he chuckled, "And I love you, for everything you are. Despite the stubbornness, the distance, I love the kindness and the intelligence and the fun,"

She could see the tears starting to spill over his cheeks now and she brushed one or two of them away

"I love you EJ Caswell, and every day I'm proud to say I'm your girlfriend, I always will be," she said.

He smiled, nodding his head, placing his hand on her cheek, "You're the best girlfriend in the world," he said, leaning in to kiss her.

They went back and finished the show, getting changed out of their consumes and walking into the barn where Miss Jenn was waiting.

"You were all incredible," she said, congratulating the group.

Andy held onto EJs hand, she wasn't going to let him go now, something she'd realised over the summer.

Corbin remembered Jennifer from the films, calling her his favourite cast member. But when Channing tried to film it, Corbin shut it down, firing him.

"Last night of camp, huh kids," Miss Jenn said.

Gina sighed, "It just kind of feels like something is over,"

"Sometimes the really good stuff only starts when something else ends," Miss Jenn replied, taking her hand.

One month later and Andy and EJ stood at the red carpet for the world premiere of frozen the musical the documentary in Hollywood again.

"Here's my favourite couple, EJ and Andy, your love story is going to he thr highlight of the show," Corbin said as the duo approached him after their photos.

EJ was wearing a blue jacket and she was wearing a blue satin dress that Kourtney had made her.

"What do you two want the people watching this to take away from it?" Corbin asked.

"I just hope that people know that it's cool to follow your dreams, no matter what your parents say," EJ said.

She looked at him, a smile on her face, "And that you should follow your heart too, even if sometimes you think you shouldn't," Andy said.

The two walked inside, his arm wrapped around her waist. It was weird as the paparazzi took photos of them but this was the life they were going to have to get used to.

They sat down in their chairs where Corbin explained that they were going to watch the trailer before everyone else came in.

"Your reactions will he recorded and just act casual and normal," corbin said.

They watched the trailer, horrified at the way it made them seem. Kourntey and Gina had an apparent rivalry and Gina and Ricky had some secret relationship.

"I didn't say that about you!" Gina said, her voice high pitched and worried.

The worst part was Andy and EJs scenes. They were made out to be this sick lovey dovey character with scenes of them always kissing and making out.

"I didn't consent to those clips being shown," Andy yelled out, watching as Ricky covered his eyes. There was one scene of him leaning over her and she yelped, "That's not legal I'm sure,"

Then scenes were shown with Val and EJ talking and then Andy and EJ yelling at each other in the barn. They didn't realise they were being filmed there either. Then Ricky made a comment about them.

"I wasn't talking about you Andy, I swear, I was talking about the guys from Frozen!" He announced.

Once the trailer ended they all began yelling at what all that was.

"Is everyone okay?" Corbin said and everyone started to rush off, leaving just Andy and EJ and Corbin in the room.

"I've got to call my mum," Andy said, "Mr Bleu, that trailer was like 25% me and EJ either yelling at each other or kissing. Channing made it look like all we did all summer was sleep together! And we haven't done that!"

EJ walked over, standing behind Andy and rubbing her shoulder reassuringly, "Mr Bleu, is there any way we can change that, that's not how the summer went, for any of our friends,"

"I'm sorry kids, I didn't realise that's what it would be like. Channing was clearly mad and made you all look like awful people," he stated.

"Awful people! I look like a whore, he looks like a cheater and I've got college applications and I'm not gonna get in if I look like a ditsy blonde on TV," she explained.

"Calm down Ands baby, it's all gonna be okay," EJ said, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, "Right Mr Bleu, there's got to be something you can do,"

"I'll try. I'm gonna call disney plus this instant okay, you kids stay put," he said, walking out.

Andy groaned, putting her head on his chest, "I've got to go back to school EJ, this is gonna be the worst senior year ever," she said.

He sighed, "We're going to make it work. Corbins going to fix this, I promise you," he said.

All she knew is that she going to hold him forever and the two of them would look after each other.

016. WHAT IS HIS WEAPON OF CHOICE? in the arena, he likes a few different types of weapons. im also biased so he likes the weapons that i like since he’s my main LOL. ideal loadout is a volt smg + r-301 carbine, though he’d also be satisfied with r-301 + charge rifle or r-301 + longbow dmr.

for any reconnaissance missions or other outside-the-arena activities, he favors a silenced pistol and a data knife.

also, of course, using hack as a bludgeoning weapon. he likes doing that quite a bit.

019. IF HE COULD HAVE A SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD HE CHOOSE? time travel. :^)

WHAT DOES HE CONSIDER BEAUTIFUL IN OTHERS PHYSICALLY? movement and posture. there’s something about the way a person carries themself, whether it’s with graceful poise, a tall and strong posture, or a confident swagger that crypto admires. probably because he tries to make himself as unobtrusive possible, to move through the world without being noticed too much. others who can carry themselves with confidence, not caring if anyone is watching them—he finds that really beautiful.

024. WHAT DOES HE CONSIDER UGLY IN OTHERS PHYSICALLY? this is hard just because i dont think he really cares what a person looks like when it comes to attraction. he’s definitely a believe that ugliness is something that shows in you because of your actions and your personality.

bad breath and bad teeth are up there though LOL

WHAT DOES HE CONSIDER BEAUTIFUL IN OTHERS PERSONALITY-WISE? kindness and optimism, even when faced with really difficult or terrible circumstances. he finds it really admirable that some people don’t feel the need to harden up and close themselves off in response to their trauma and hardships.

WHAT DOES HE CONSIDER UGLY IN OTHERS PERSONALITY-WISE? blatant and extreme cruelty. like, yeah, he’s a huge dick himself and he can say some mean things at times, but he’s definitely not the type to revel in making other people’s lives hell for the fun of it and he’s disgusted by people who do.

WHAT IS HIS IDEA OF PERFECT HAPPINESS? right now crypto thinks he’ll be happy if he can clear his name, reunite with mila, and go home to suotamo and mystik. of course all of us know that is not a realistic dream and it’s never going to happen because he is unable to come to grips with the fact that he will never go back to his old life.

028. WHAT MAKES HIM LAUGH OUT LOUD? sadly nothing really does :/ it really would take a lot for that to happen. either some kind of unexpected funny thing happening or some kind of absurd statement or joke or something like that. crypto’s not a laugher, sorry 😔

029. WHAT SORT OF SENSE OF HUMOR DOES HE HAVE? on the surface? a very mean sense of humor. insults, ‘playful’ ribbing, calling everyone that’s not natalie an idiot, etc. he also enjoys sarcasm a great deal as well as deadpan humor just to fuck with people.

but he’s also not immune to a good pun (’data way,’ for example)

030. DOES HE BELIEVE IN THE AFTERLIFE? no, not really. he’s an atheist and doesn’t think there’s anything waiting for us after we die.

031. IS HE SUPERSTITIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING? not in the way this question is asking, no. he’s too much of a realist/left-brain for anything like that.

033. DOES HE KEEP HIS PROMISES? i feel like crypto makes very few promises to anyone he doesn’t trust because yes, he does actually try to keep them.

034. WHAT’S HIS VIEW OF LYING? big big fan of lying over here. love it, will do it until he dies, 10/10 because to him lying = security.

035. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE CRYPTO LIVES BY? trust nothing and no one.

he has a plethora of bad habits. some of the more obvious are:

not getting enough sleep/pushing himself to stay up all night

not eating consistent meals

vaping

overworking

but then there are some less obvious ones like pushing people away, freezing people out, distrusting EVERYONE, and all his other little paranoid habits like:

scanning everyone who comes to his home for weapons

setting up surveillance cams around places he frequents

not eating food made by others/that doesn’t come in a sealed container

maintaining a minimalist lifestyle specifically because he will have to run again in the future

crypto is an unhealthy mess!

039. WHAT DO THEY THINK IS THE WORST THING THAT CAN BE DONE TO A PERSON? hmmm this is a hard one. because there’s the very obvious answer of, like, being tortured or assaulted and really terrible things like that but maybe those things go without saying. so in his opinion, the worst thing that can happen to a person is becoming completely stripped of their identity. it is so alienating and othering to have who you are at your core foundationally upended 

046. HOW DOES HE HANDLE GETTING SICK? like most things, crypto doesn’t handle it much at all LOL. once he realizes he’s getting sick he pushes himself through it as much as he possibly can to keep working/fighting/whatever until he physically collapses from it, whether that’s literally fainting or just falling into bed at night and waking up the next morning too sick to move. then he just lays there and hopes it passes quickly. he is horrible at self-care

049. HOW DOES CRYPTO FEEL ABOUT GROWING OLD? this is maybe a little morbid but crypto doesn’t have many feelings about growing old at the moment because he doesn’t think he’s going to live to being an old man. either the Syndicate is going to kill him or he’s going to die trying to take them down

HOW DOES CRYPTO FEEL ABOUT HIS OWN MORTALITY? he accepts his own mortality, and even if he’s not happy about it and even if he will fight it with gnashing teeth and claws, he accepts that he is going to die, probably soon. he’s just working to try and make it so that isn’t a thing that happens

IF HE KNEW HE WOULD DIE TOMORROW, WHAT WOULD CRYPTO DO TODAY? send a letter to mystik. try to get a message to mila. then he’d come up with some elaborate plan to try and really fuck things up for the Syndicate. sure it probably wouldn’t matter in the long run since they’re a huge conglomerate and have so much power but he can at least get some people thinking. so something like taking down a big rig of theirs or even just fucking up one of the arenas. something like that

068. HOW STRONG IS CRYPTO’S SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY? WHAT KINDS OF THINGS TRIGGER IT? hmmm i think crypto has a strong sense of responsibility, just generally speaking. like he keeps his living space neat and does his work on his own time and puts forth effort in the game and all that stuff. he is a very hard-working and dutiful person. i don’t think there’s anything that really ‘triggers’ it either because it’s either he does these things, or he doesn’t, but the only person who cares if he does or not is himself.

072. IN A DUNGEONS & DRAGONS GAME, WHICH CLASS WOULD YOUR CHARACTER BE? i’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time thinking about this. if he was playing as a character, crypto would be a Divination Wizard for a couple of reasons. first and foremost being that of course he would get access to spells that rely all around foresight and knowledge and that’s what he’s all about—knowing more about everything going on than anyone else. he’d also favor spells that deal lightning damage. the second reason is that the main stat for wizards is Intelligence and u know he’s gotta have that 20 INT babey.

in my D&D au, though, crypto is a multi-classed Divination Wizard and Inquisitve Rogue. started out as a divination wizard as tae joon but then took up some rogue-like skills after going on the run. i picked Inquisitive Rogue because they’re all about perceiving little details and stuff like that. i know that’s more WIS and less INT but it suits crypto imho.

074. WHAT IS CRYPTO’S FAVORITE GAME? sorry in advance that im not going to pick just one. he likes a lot of different kinds of games, but i think his favorite kinds are horror games, games of strategy, and fighting games. so, stuff like detention, dead space, cultist simulator, portal, tekken, street fighter, etc.

HOW EMOTIONALLY STABLE IS YOUR CHARACTER? heeeeeee is not LOL. i mean, the reason he keeps such a tight grip on his persona and his emotions is because he’s like one misstep away from a total meltdown. he’s never properly grieved or mourned about what happened to him and having to go on the run, and now he can’t show any kind of emotion because that equals some kind of weakness or chink in the armor.

but under that armor he feels things INTENSELY. everyone gets on his nerves so easily, and everything that’s happened to him in the games so far is piling on: being framed as the mole, having to tell natalie his name, and now pathfinder/caustic. and thats not even touching on his crippling paranoia. it’s a lot from him and he is barely keeping it together. he’s just good at hiding it.

even so, it manifests in all the little ways, right? so like how he cant even enjoy a meal without wondering if it’s poisoned, his inability to sleep through the night, how he has to scan even pathfinder for weapons when he comes into his house. crypto is an mental and emotional disaster

Do they prefer being alone or with others?      Sofia does NOT do well on her own AT ALL. She definitely needs a healthy ecosystem of people to survive.  005. Maybe when he was a kid but he doesn’t remember much. He gets a different kind of teasing now.

When they are harming vulnerable people. Alexander may be a killer but he only does it when it’s to take down the rich.

Oof. Xander is really affectionate, he’d hold hands, hug, kiss, cuddle... all of it. It’s different depending on whom he’s being affectionate to.

Someone he can trust completely, someone who’s not afraid to be honest and fight for what’s right. He also really appreciates a good sense of humour.

A very stupid and simple one, honestly. It’s easy to make him laugh but sometimes he can be a bit dull or take things seriously when they’re just a joke.

She would flag the person down and return it. No matter how hard up she is, she would look at that money as someone elses life savings. So, they might need it more than she does. She’d fight with it for a minute, but ultimately she would return it.

She’s comfortable enough with it.

079. How easy is it for them to read the emotions of others? Aina is a pretty quick study and can usually judge pretty well the atmosphere of a room or the general disposition of a person she has been wrong before and has been suprised by a reaction shes not perfect

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-039 are to be contained in Site-77's Wilderness Observation Chamber-2B. At least two (2) security personnel are to monitor the interior and exterior of SCP-039's chamber, and are to rotate every six (6) hours. Staff members may not access SCP-039's chamber without an accompanying escort from site security, and may only do so for research purposes, or for the examination of the chamber for containment sabotage or contraband, which is to occur weekly.

As of 9-18-20██, SCP-039-8 has become pregnant; responsibility for its containment has been reassigned to personnel in the veterinary observation wing.

Description: SCP-039 consists of twenty-three (23) instances of Nasalis larvatus, or proboscis monkey, who have been subject to radical anatomical changes. The eyes and mouths of SCP-039 are absent, leaving the face bare save for the nose and its accompanying nasal passages. Instances of SCP-039 possess acute auditory and tactile sense to compensate for a lack of eyes, relying mostly on physical contact with objects to perceive them, and on loud nasal snorts as a sort of echolocation to help them navigate in their environment. Necropsies have also revealed the digestive system to be absent; how instances of SCP-039 obtain nutrition — or, alternately, how they survive without it — is still a subject of research.

Instances of SCP-039 display signs of sapience, examples of which include communication via nasal snorts, an understanding of spoken English, and a complex understanding of machinery. Adult instances have demonstrated the ability to operate mechanical tools, and possess the ability to repair and manufacture various pieces of technology, such as disassembling and reassembling an internal combustion engine, and efficiently wiring a small apartment room. Testing has shown that SCP-039 appear to work more efficiently individually, rather than in groups, as instances of SCP-039 will often become distracted by one another.

Occasionally when working, instances of SCP-039 will clutch their abdomens and emit distressed vocalizations. If food is located nearby, they will attempt to smear their faces with the substance. It is currently hypothesized that this indicates that SCP-039 is the result of artificial manipulation of normal Nasalis larvatus specimens, with documents recovered during containment supporting this hypothesis. (see Addendum 039-A)

SCP-039 are capable of reproduction and gestation not unlike Nasalis larvatus; as of the time of this writing, five (5) instances of SCP-039 have been born. SCP-039 show a very close bond among their species, with newborns often being cared for by all capable adults. New instances are born with anatomical anomalies similar to other instances of SCP-039, but lack the knowledge of other instances. Parent instances will educate newborns on communication and basic skills until they reach the age of six (6) months, at which point technological ability will be taught by other adult instances.

SCP-039 were recovered from an uninhabited research facility fifty (50) kilometers from the nearby town of ████████, Nevada. Documents recovered during containment placed ownership of the facility under ██████ █████, a company funding research for the advancement of natural human ability. Twenty (20) instances of SCP-039 had been apparently living in and maintaining the facility for an unknown period of time. Additional recovered documents indicate that a project was being conducted to augment human intelligence. This project appears to have been cancelled shortly before the company's collapse, with the assets sold to an unnamed group. Further research into ██████ █████ and the groups that acquired its assets has revealed several other anomalous objects, including SCP-1513.

Addendum 039-A: One additional instance of SCP-039 was discovered during containment operations of SCP-1328. Agents are currently following up on any reports indicating the existence of further instances outside of containment.

Addendum 039-B: Several documents recovered during initial containment appear to detail the early prototyping stage of SCP-039's development. Research has begun to develop a way to recreate the process that creates new SCP-039 instances; however, the damage the notes had accumulated prior to containment has rendered many of them unreadable.

…removal, they have become almost 100% more productive, not even counting the extra time due to reduced breaks and time off. With this success, we're considering removal of additional orifices, as long as the replacements or lack thereof do not reduce their output.

Wernher was looking at them as they worked today, and noticed some of them clutching their abdomens. Seems that they experience phantom hunger pains, even if they no longer require food. Unless this starts interfering with productivity, we're going to continue as-is.

We tried removing the ocular organs, and just having them work by memory. After a couple of inconclusive trials, we actually got one up to the point where it scored almost as high as the control test. We've decided to move forward with this initiative, and if successful apply it to all specimens.

EDIT: An update on this one. It seems the removal of sight has increased the tactile sensitivity of most of the specimens, and remarkably, this has brought the initial test subjects up to a level of productivity that exceeds the expected result. As such, we will be applying the changes to all available specimens. Some of them didn't take to it, but they're still good for spare parts. In the meantime, we've put them in storage.

After the success of the eyeball thing, Damien suggested that we could increase productivity by increasing auditory sensitivity. As long as they stayed in the factory they'd be fine, since there isn't much here to overwhelm the ears. Testing starts in a week or so.

A massive success! With the elimination of sight and the need for food, and with the amplification of hearing and touch, we've managed a total boost of 211% over our initial test subjects. Management has seen fit to give our division extra time to finish the project. And to think that we were sold this project for a lark! Man, I feel like dancing on air.

EDIT: Small incident today. One of the specimens was out of his pen, and had grabbed a couple of tools. We put him back in, and sealed it up again. Alan says he'll take another look at the doors tomorrow.
