My dear lgbt+ kids,
When it comes to cold weather, the main rule (regardless of gender or presentation) is: when in doubt, choose warmth and safety over style.
Some basics:
Layering is your best friend: Start with moisture-wicking base layers to keep sweat off your skin. Follow with insulating layers (like fleece or wool), and finish with a weather-resistant outer layer (like a puffer jacket or waterproof coat) to protect against wind, snow or rain.
Keep your sensitive areas warm: Make sure your hands, feet, and head are covered! Gloves, warm socks and a beanie can prevent cold-related discomfort or injuries.
Waterproof: If you're facing snow or rain, make sure your clothes are waterproof. Wet clothes lose their insulating ability, so staying dry is a big part of staying warm!
Reflective Gear: If you’re out in the dark or in poor visibility conditions, consider adding reflective elements to your outfit for safety.
People can react differently to temperatures. A temperature that feels super cold to you could feel comfortable to someone else, depending on what you’re used to (and some other factors). As a very basic rule, we can say: Gloves, beanies, and other cold-weather accessories typically become necessary when temperatures drop below 40°F (4°C). In more severe cold (below 32°F (0°C)), it’s even more important to wear them to protect yourself from frostbite and maintain body warmth. But it goes even in milder weather: if you feel uncomfortable or if it’s windy or damp, it’s a good idea to add these items for extra comfort.
With all that being said: Clothes are not just for safety and temperature control, they also help you express yourself - and that doesn’t suddenly change in winter.
Dressing for cold weather doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your personal look. Whether you want to present more feminine, more masculine, or more androgynous, here are some tips to help you layer up and feel like yourself:
(Note that these are suggestions, not hard rules. Style is highly subjective as everyone has different tastes, preferences, body types, fashion inspirations, budgets, cultural influences etc. I could suggest something here that you’d feel super uncomfortable in - if so, that’s not a sign you’re “doing it wrong”! Cherry-pick what feels right and ignore the rest)
If You Want to Present More Feminine
Base Layers: If you want to wear skirts or dresses in winter, start with thermal leggings or tights! These can be nicely paired with cozy, long-sleeved tops or lightweight thermal shirts. (But also keep in mind that plenty of women, cis or trans, do not wear dresses all the time! Nothing wrong with choosing jeans!)
Outer Layers: There are plenty of styles to choose from that have a feminine touch, such as a belted trench coat, a pea coat, or a long wool coat. Shawls are also excellent for adding a touch of style while keeping you warm!
Footwear: Knee-high or thigh-high boots lined with faux fur or fleece can keep your legs warm and add a polished look to your outfit. Ankle boots with thicker socks are also a good alternative.
Accessories: Scarves, gloves, and beanies can be both practical and stylish. Knit hats or earmuffs can add a soft, cozy vibe to your look.
Style Tip: Go for a mix of fabrics like wool, faux fur, and knitwear to create texture and warmth.
If You Want to Present More Masculine:
- Base Layers: Start with thermal undershirts or moisture-wicking base layers. Consider long underwear for added insulation beneath your pants.
- Outer Layers: There’s plenty of outerwear to choose from, like a puffer jacket, parka, or wool overcoat! (Faux) Leather or bomber jackets layered over sweaters can also add a masculine edge while keeping you warm.
- Footwear: You might want to opt for sturdy boots, such as work boots, Chelsea boots, or combat boots. Thicker socks can keep your feet warm.
- Accessories: Don’t skip out on scarves, beanies, or gloves for being “too feminine”. They can actually be great for adding a more rugged feel to your outfit! You just gotta find a color and style that fits you well.
Style Tip: Focus on layering in a way that adds structure. Sweaters, button-ups, and jackets work great together for a sharp, put-together look. Play with dark, neutral tones and thick fabrics like wool or denim for extra warmth and style.
If You Want to Present Androgynous
- Base Layers: Neutral-colored thermal tops or turtlenecks can serve as great foundational pieces. You may want to pair these with straight-leg or loose-fitting pants that allow room for layering underneath.
- Outer Layers: Oversized coats, puffer jackets, or long trench coats can work well for an androgynous look. Try layering with oversized sweaters or fleece pullovers for extra warmth.
- Footwear: You could go for sneakers, lace-up boots, or loafers paired with warm, thick socks. But really, any pair of shoes can work for an unisex outfit.
- Accessories: Neutral-colored scarves, simple beanies, and fingerless gloves can add to an androgynous look. Minimalist accessories like oversized scarves or gender-neutral caps are both practical and stylish.
Style Tip: Aim for a balanced mix of structured and relaxed pieces. Try loose layers on top with more fitted pants, or vice versa, to create an effortless, warm, and non-gendered appearance.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
#I’ll go straight ahead (gay ahead?) and say that fashion isn’t my strong suit#So this is mostly based on internet research#But it was a requested topic and I wanted to do my best to help#lgbt#lgbt+

Sanji's personality is unique and i love him for it
I love how stylish he is. He's well-groomed and cares about his personal hygiene. He's DRAMATIC, the straw hat's unofficial drama queen, always striking poses and rocking them. He's passionate, which is already often seen as a feminine trait, but he's passionate specifically about cooking. He cleans and takes care of domestic jobs on the Sunny; not because he has to but because he values a clean, safe space for his family. He's much more emotionally vulnerable than any other male on board, he's physically unable to control his love around women or his anger and annoyance around Zoro. He's sensitive, he started smoking because he wanted Zeff to see him as an adult. He can't help it but care about his family, even after years and years of torment and abuse. He's also sensitive to beauty, something no other male straw hat ever really shows: he appreciates food, and nature, and people, and animals (the rats, I'm going to cry). Even his fighting style can be seen as feminine (humour me for a second); he doesn't rely on brute strength or straightforward techniques. He fights elegant and fluid and intelligent. Oh god and don't get me started on Okama Island; the confusion and discomfort from seeing other men be so flamboyant and gender-noncomforming and proud. They're everything Sanji is, only a thousand-fold more.
It all gets so much more obvious after WCI. Sanji refuses to conform to the gender-affirming ideas his father put in his head from a young age. He refuses to be anything but a warm, loving, caring person like his mother. He's a perfectly written male character who's feminine traited, and he deserves the absolute world.
It's also why he fits in with the straw hats so well. Every single one of them is just a little bit fucked up. Sanji's never had a family like them: it's always been him VS the world, his personality VS the standards his father set (even at Baratie it was always his feminine traits VS a loving but incredibly male-dominated, masculine environment). I LOVE this man with my whole heart and I'll never shut up about him

how was the show yesterday! Did you see anything from the cheap seat?
Les Misérables at Le Théâtre du Châtelet was great! And yeah, I could see pretty much the whole stage (when I was leaning up against the railing) so I was happy with it! I'd only seen the musical once and it was over ten years ago, so I really loved getting to see this version. A couple of things I really enjoyed, in no particular order:
-Fantine was played by a replacement cast member that day, Myriana Hatchi. I haven't seen the show with the regular Fantine, Claire Pérot, but I absolutely loved Myriana's performance. She was the real highlight of the show for me. I believe she normally plays one of the nuns, but her interpretation of Fantine was so emotional and well performed. Her Fantine was heartbreakingly believable. At times I take issue with some Fantine's performances in the musical, but she brought so much spirit and personality to the role. I hope she gets the chance to play the role more often. No diss at all to Claire Pérot--again, I haven't seen her in the role, and I'm sure she is amazing as well! But I was pleasantly surprised to see Myriana's interpretation.
-More nuns: when Valjean is in the hospital hiding from Javert in act I, one of the nuns takes Javert's rifle and hides it in a patient's bed, while she's still lying in it. A funny little staging decision that I loved. Very Sister Simplice-y.
-Assorted amis: Grantaire (played by Ryan Malcolm) was a refreshingly suave, stylish, yet undeniably Grantaire-y Grantaire. I loved him in the part. Fashionable Grantaire representation. Enjolras (Stanley Kassa) was also a brilliantly convincing Enjolras--inspiring, beautiful, makes you want to sacrifice your life for a just cause .
-On a related note, Grantaire, Enjolras, and Gavroche: Enjolras picks Gavroche up on his shoulders, carries him, and then passes him off to Grantaire, who carries him on his shoulders. Gavroche has two gay dads.
-THEN, when Gavroche is shot, Grantaire mourns for him so emotionally. Everyone knows to let Grantaire hold his body, and he won't let anyone else touch him. Enjolras takes his hat. He lies next to his corpse for much of the latter half of the barricade, which I thought was a great call-back to the brick (where Grantaire is asleep for much of it) and yet much more sympathetic to his character.
-Among les amis was a waiter from the Musain, who (from what I could interpret) begins the work as a waiter who is friendly with les amis, and then becomes engaged in the cause. I thought it was a lovely decision to show the engagement of the people. We see him and his wife/lover (?) throughout, who is also there at the barricades, and when Enjolras sends the women and children home, the wife is the one to convince him to stay. I was thoroughly charmed. Don't know who played either of them, would love to find out.
-At Cosette and Marius's wedding, the actors who play the wedding guests are the same ones who play les amis, including the parts of Enjolras and Grantaire. Obviously the characters themselves do not attend (being dead) but the fact that they are so recognizable made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's like what should have been, if everything hadn't gone wrong. We see the waiter and his wife dancing together as well.
-Javert (Sébastien Duchange) played his role very, very well. I like a Javert that's got a bit of mean dog in him, and this Javert was very believable as a frightening, dangerous figure, who also delivered on the more reflective moments, like in "Sous les étoiles."
Anyways, that is only a short list, but those are the the things that stood out to me the most, and that I can think of off the top of my head. Very strong performances all around, and great staging! If anyone has any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them! (Or if anyone has seen it and wants to scream about it a bit with me lmao)

In the q&a you mentioned enjoying the late 70s through early 80s especially for the music. Any albums, bands, music history articles, etc we should look into if we want to listen to more music from that time and to understand it better?
I can't do that - it's an absurdly broad category - but I can tell you why it's important to me, personally, and give you the stepping stones that I used to get there.
Like many nerds of my generation I listened to a lot of They Might Be Giants (founded 1982) growing up. What appealed to me: strange lyrics, the emotional tone of which was often at odds with the tone of the music - unpredictable chord changes and melodies that kept me interested - driving, mechanical beats that I could feel in my body.
I later find out that they were part of a movement, a flowering of music made by nerdy robot men (and even women sometimes!) that emerged in the late 70s/early 80s. This is broadly called New Wave. The line between New Wave and Punk was hazy, though, particularly in the early days. I didn't like the stylish, polished New Wave bands like Flock of Seagulls as much as I liked the scrappy ones that could fall into either category. Often the earliest music released by foundational New Wave bands was absolute punk, both in its raw sound and in its do-it-yourself ethos.
If you want to get into this music I would suggest starting with the 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, which is both an artistic triumph and really easy to like. (If you can't dance even a little to this stuff, you might be dead.) From there, many paths to take. If you want the same New York art/cocaine feeling but more esoteric, Laurie Anderson's movie Home of the Brave (1986) is the next step down the iceberg. If your taste runs to the libidinal King of the Faeries type of guy, Oingo Boingo's album Dead Man's Party (1985) might be a good port of call. If it's pure robot man energy you want, Devo. Anything Devo. All the Devo. (and, if that isn't enough for you, Kraftwerk.) If you want your weird music delivered to you by a ruined alcoholic poet, Pere Ubu. (I think Dave Thomas from Pere Ubu is the type of guy I would be if I hadn't learned to mask.) You'll want to start from the beginning with them.
And then there are the british bands, if you must. If you like your nerd boys to be...moist, there's the Pet Shop Boys. The Cure. The Smiths. Prefab Sprout.
If you already know all this stuff and want more, have you checked out the Neue Deutsche Velle movement? There was some serious New Wave nonsense going on in West Germany around this time. I currently have a massive crush on Stephan Remmler from Trio, the band that brought you the international hit "Da da da, ich lieb' dich nicht du liebst mich nicht aha aha aha". It's a shame he's dead.
The short version of all this is that I eventually discovered that everything I liked in popular music was invented by five guys from Akron in the late 70s. Devo is remembered mostly as the people in the silly hats who gave us "Whip It", which is I think a reflexive cultural defense against their very reasonable proposition that everything is going to shit and there's nothing we can do about it but dance.

Amelia Earhart broke into an almost entirely male-dominated profession to become one of the most famous aviators of all time, but being one of a small handful of female pilots came with plenty of obstacles. One of the more annoying problems was a lack of flight apparel designed to fit women’s bodies. At the beginning of her career, Earhart was saddled with ill-fitting clothing designed for men, which only bolstered her lifelong interest in fashion. As a child, Earhart sewed clothing for herself and her dolls; later in life, she had a reputation for wearing practical clothing, much of which was custom-made.
In 1933, with a couple of transatlantic flights under her belt, Earhart released Amelia Fashions, “for the woman who lives actively”; while some of the line was made for aviation, some of it was just stylish and comfortable. Earhart didn’t just lend her name to the label — she approved every step of the process and helped sew some of the garments, too. Many of the designs incorporated aviation materials, such as buttons and buckles made of ball bearings, oil cups, and bolts. Some shirts were made from parachute silk and included tails, which were mostly exclusive to menswear at the time. She also designed hats, which she used as prizes for flying contests with the Ninety-Nines, an all-woman aviation society she helped establish.

Hiya Stelle! Wanted to stop by your inbox and drop off a few stud!Gaz headcanons I've been cooking up. As always, please free to agree, disagree, or add your own thoughts!
☆wears Nike Tech suits religiously (and looks better than any man ever could)
☆I definitely see her being the more stylish member of the 141. I'm talking pristine trainers, polished dress shoes, gold chain around her neck (that dangles in my face when we-)
☆I'm more partial to her having short locs that she'll often pull into a ponytail at the base of her neck. Something about black women with locs...whew🥵
☆Is an insanely protective gf (all of the butch!141 are, tbh). Shields your body with hers when you're on the crowded tube so that you don't get bumped into. Opens doors for you and refuses to let you pay for anything.
☆That being said...she loves being spoiled. And not just with material things! She loves when her partner takes the time to learn about her interests and participates in them. She loves when her partner makes the effort to genuinely see her, not just as a handsome stud, but as a woman worthy of love and affection.
birdy i love it when you get cooking,, i’ve got my sous chef hat on 🧑🏼🍳 lets go !!
- the vision of gaz in her nike tech,,,,, she’d have a wardrobe of ‘em in different colours
- she’s absolutely a sneaker head!! got a lil collection going, probably dunks and a couple pairs of air force too. keeps them squeaky clean. loves knowing that she looks good; she takes care of herself so why wouldn’t she dress to impress too? and i’m using that chain to tug her close to kiss and bite
- I AGREE 1000000% i know we’ve talked before about her having a buzz (which i adore) but i loved this hairstyle for stud gaz originally and it’ll always have a place in my heart <3
i think she was covered/cut off a lil in my gaz moodboard but this pinterest pic really inspired my fem gaz :3
- birdy you’re tapping into allllll my weaknesses here with this 😵💫 she gives you her coat when you get cold, rests her palm on your leg as she drives (you are her designated passenger princess idc if you can drive too), leaves one hand on your hip everywhere you go so people know neither of you are single,,, mhm mhm yeah that’s the stuff
- i was just talking to woolie about pamper days with the butchverse and it lends perfectly here,, setting her up a nice warm bath with her fave scented salts dissolving away, going through her hair care routine while she lays back with a face mask on, lathering on her moisturiser and making sure to cover every inch of skin as she lays back boneless on the bed,, just hours of endless loving and doting until shes curled up as the little spoon in bed snoozing away
meanwhile you’re nuzzling into the back of her neck and ordering her favourite food for later, adding an extra large extra thick blanket to your amazon basket for the pair of you to snuggle under next time and planning a hike just the two of you for the weekend after she mentioned wanting to get out a little more
#she’s adventurous but growing up in london means she yearns for green green grass adventures#and you’re happy to oblige even if you’re knackered half way up and eat half the picnic you brought before you even get sat down#i love her thank you so much for coming round and chatting about her with me :’) it always feels like we’re sat chilling in my living room#yapping when i get your asks :3#stellewrites asks#stud gaz#butch gaz#can’t remember which i’m tagging
