so Connecticut has this beautifully cursed grocery chain called stew leonards and it's got lore (mascot being based off of the founder's deceased son I believe??) as well as a bunch of terrifying singing animatronics????

I see that you guys featured some stew leonards animatronics, but I didn’t see the farm fresh five!!! They’re a band of little milk jugs that sing songs every 10 minutes!!

Hi! Love your blog -- can't believe I just found it! Would you happen to know, which came first: the produce animatronics at Stew Leonard's (called "The Disneyland of Dairy Stores" in 1983 by The NY Times), or Epcot's Kitchen Kabaret (park's opening day, 1981)? It feels like a case of parallel thinking. Stew Leonard's Larry Lettuce and Cindy Celery, specifically, and Walt Disney World's Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit. Thank you for reading!

The only place that I can find that mentions the introduction of animatronics into Stew Leonard's is a fan Wiki that cites it as being in the "mid-80s". However, I can't prove that for certain.

It wouldn't surprise me if Stew Leonard's drew inspiration from Disney for those characters, though! Its employees are often sent to the Disney Institute for training, and they've been cited as saying Disney has been a big inspiration for them in general.

Catchy song, but I don't see it getting stuck in my head quite as bad as Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit lol!

I wish The Big Yummy show at COZI had stuck around, I love the animatronics and character designs, and I especially love how Leche was actually able to move [through a wheel under the stage]. I am a huge sucker for anthropomorphic food characters [which is also why I adore Kitchen Kabaret and Food Rocks, as well as Stew Leonard's Farm Fresh Five] and I cannot get enough of them.
