21 years of k3g; an evolution in style, music and drama
yesterday marked the day when 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' hit the theatres in 2001, setting off a an unprecedented domino effect that would be felt even 21 years later. Set on the most melodramatic premise known to man, where a son gets disowned for marrying below his social status, his brother goes from a chubby kid to having an eight pack and a sixth thumb; where the second lead drives to school in a lambo, it has got it all. The melodrama of it all is not why it lives in my head rent free, it was the colours, mood and the ambiance that K3G introduced me to.
This movie was my first introduction to a pastel based wardrobe, everything that 'Poo' wears in this movie can only be categorised as Y2K classics. Starting from the pink jacket and choker ensemble in 'Dewaana hain dekho' to the cream colored beaded 'Sharara' in 'bole Chudiyan', Manish Malhotra and Kareena Kapoor set the bar high for the metric of serving looks. Kapoor's backless spandex-leather outfit in 'you are my soniya' absolutely mesmerised millions of girls like me and definitely did set a template in mind for club aesthetics- sleek, sparkly with just the right amount of skin. I think it's worth mentioning that Kareena's outfit in 'Bole Chudiya' did kickstart the trend of bell bottomed salwar suits, and started my love for rhinestones. One could say, 'Poo' was the purveyor of the desi coquette aesthetics, for her use of pastels, brands and obviously, her brother-in-law's money.
One cannot just speak of the characters and not be reminded of the flowing and the beautifully fusioned music of the soundtrack. Jatin-Lalit, Sandesh Shandilya, Aadesh Shrivastava did a wonderful job of blending the 2000s bollywood with a sensual R&B of the western end. In my opinion, Anil Pandey absolutely outdid himself with the sensual lyrics of 'Sooraj Hua Maddham', with the Egyptian background and Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik's voice, it was heard to cut through the palpable romanticisim of the song. Additionally, being the revolutionary that KJo is, he introduced us to one of the best wedding songs of all time; the fact that you'll have to think a bit to pick your choice says enough.
Yesterday marked not only the 21st years of the release of a era-setting film but also the capstone of core memories for desi millennials all over the world. With its memeable dialogue, wonderful visuals and playback button hitting songs, K3G will forever live on in our heads.

There has been a lot of chatter on social media about what is next for him after the Diwali 2023 release, Tiger 3. Maine Pyar Kiya: Friends-to-Lovers
Let's talk about Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya.
This is one of those classic films that resemble closely to old Bollywood, bringing a wave of nostalgia to everyone who watches. Released in 1989, it follows Suman as she lives in a family friend's household and falls in love with their son, Prem. However, after Suman's father suffers humiliation from Prem's father, Prem takes it upon himself to prove to Suman's father that he is truly in love with Suman.
A friends-to-lovers trope, Maine Pyar Kiya is considered one of the most iconic romance films ever made in Bollywood cinema. It is also another one of those films that is a perfect mix of the Bollywood formula: action + romance + comedy.
The music, composed by Raamlaxman, is also as iconic as the movie itself and has garnered a following of its own. Here's are three songs that I recommend listening to:
Mere Rang Mein
Kabootar Ja Ja Ja
Kahe Tose Sajna
I hope you're not scared of the length of the movie (192 minutes). Stream it on Bilibili with English subtitles here with some popcorn and enjoy!

Amaal Mallik’s Unforgettable Bollywood Hits
In a world where music serves as both a form of expression and a connection to the soul, Amaal Mallik has emerged as one of Bollywood’s most promising and impactful music composers. Born into a family with a rich musical legacy, Amaal has successfully carved his niche in the highly competitive Indian music industry. With his ability to blend soulful melodies with contemporary beats, Amaal has become a household name, captivating audiences across generations.
This article delves deep into the journey of Amaal Mallik — his roots, achievements, and the unique elements that make his music resonate so deeply with listeners.
A Musical Lineage Rooted in Tradition Amaal Mallik was born into a family synonymous with Indian music. As the son of music director Daboo Malik and grandson of the legendary Sardar Malik, Amaal was destined to pursue a career in music. He grew up in an environment that nurtured his talent, with melodies and rhythms being an integral part of his upbringing. However, it wasn’t just his family’s legacy that set him apart; Amaal’s determination to create a distinct identity in the industry has been key to his success.
His formal training began at a young age. Learning piano and exploring the intricacies of Indian classical music under the tutelage of his grandfather, Amaal also pursued Western classical music from Trinity College, London. This dual exposure to Indian and Western music gave him the versatility and depth evident in his compositions today.
The Breakthrough Moment Amaal’s professional journey started as an assistant music director, working with stalwarts like Amar Mohile on films such as Sarkar (2005) and Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007). This hands-on experience laid the groundwork for his debut as a composer in Salman Khan’s film Jai Ho (2014), where he composed three songs. Tracks like Tere Naina from Jai Ho and Naina from Khoobsurat (2014) immediately struck a chord with audiences, setting the stage for his meteoric rise.
It was in 2015 that Amaal’s talent truly shone with the blockbuster hit Sooraj Dooba Hain from the film Roy. The song’s infectious energy and fresh vibe not only dominated music charts but also established Amaal as a composer who could deliver commercially successful yet artistically rich tracks.
Signature Style and Memorable Hits One of Amaal’s greatest strengths lies in his ability to create melodies that are both modern and timeless. His discography boasts a mix of upbeat anthems and soulful ballads, showcasing his versatility. Songs like Soch Na Sake from Airlift (2016) and Kar Gayi Chull from Kapoor & Sons (2016) exemplify his knack for understanding what resonates with audiences while staying true to his musical sensibilities.
The soundtrack of M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) marked another milestone in his career. Tracks such as Besabriyaan and Kaun Tujhe highlighted Amaal’s ability to evoke deep emotions through music, earning widespread acclaim and further solidifying his place in Bollywood.
Blending Tradition with Modernity What makes Amaal Mallik stand out is his ability to marry traditional Indian music elements with contemporary sounds. Whether it’s the use of classical instruments like the tabla and sitar or experimenting with electronic beats, Amaal’s compositions cater to a wide range of listeners. His music often carries a universal appeal, making it equally beloved by older generations and millennials.
Amaal’s deep understanding of lyrics also plays a pivotal role in his success. He collaborates closely with lyricists to ensure that the music complements the story being told. This attention to detail has resulted in songs that not only entertain but also leave a lasting impression.
Venturing into Independent Music In addition to his Bollywood projects, Amaal has ventured into the realm of independent music. His single Tu Mera Nahi (2020) marked his debut as a pop singer, showcasing his versatility and willingness to explore uncharted territories. The song received praise for its heartfelt lyrics and relatable theme, proving that Amaal is not just a composer but also a storyteller.
His work in independent music reflects his desire to experiment and connect with his audience on a more personal level. Platforms like YouTube and Spotify have enabled him to reach a global audience, further expanding his fan base.
Awards and Accolades Over the years, Amaal Mallik’s contributions to the music industry have been recognized with numerous accolades. From Filmfare Awards to Mirchi Music Awards, his work has consistently garnered critical and commercial acclaim. Winning the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 2020 was a testament to his exceptional talent and hard work.
Despite his success, Amaal remains humble and focused on evolving as an artist. He often credits his family, collaborators, and fans for his achievements, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in the creative process.
Conclusion Amaal Mallik journey from a young music enthusiast to one of Bollywood’s most sought-after composers is a story of passion, perseverance, and innovation. With his unique ability to blend tradition with modernity, Amaal has not only redefined Bollywood music but has also inspired countless aspiring musicians. His dedication to creating meaningful and memorable music ensures that he will continue to be a prominent figure in the industry for years to come.

Sooraj Barjatya claims that Sunny Deol urged him to launch the Dono trailer: "Main ghabra gaya, and the first thing I told Sunny was, 'Lekin iss film mein action nahin hai,'"
Dono's trailer launch was place today in Mumbai and was attended by not only the film's actors and crew but also Sunny Deol, Poonam Dhillon, Ashok Thakeria, Sooraj Barjatya, Kamal Kumar Barjatya, and Ajit Kumar Barjatya. Sunny Deol's son Rajveer Deol and Poonam Dhillon and Ashok Thakeria's daughter Paloma star in the love story, which premieres on October 5. That isn't everything. Avnish S Barjatya, Sooraj Barjatya's son, also makes his directorial debut.
In a rare moment, Sooraj Barjatya raised laughter when discussing how the picture was conceptualized. "I always thought Avnish would become a chartered accountant!" he stated. He told me one day that he wanted to be a filmmaker. I was mute at first, but then I told him only two things that my father had taught me: if you want to be a director, you must be able to speak up. Tab hi bano, director. I am overjoyed that he spoke something and had a voice with this film."
"When Avnish narrated the concept, I told him you are free to make whatever you want," he said, "but remember that tumhari film dekhne Rajshri ki audience bhi aayegi."
Sooraj Barjatya then said that Sunny Deol asked him to launch Rajveer Deol with Dono, saying, "Then Sunny ji called me and said, 'Suna hai ki aap bete ki picture bana rahe ho'." I'm not sure if Rajveer is aware of this episode. Main ghabra gaya, and the first thing I said to Sunny was, 'Lekin iss film mein action nahin hai'! 'It's all right,' he said. I want a topic that my son will enjoy, and it should come from the heart." He also added, “Then Poonam ji spoke to my sister, Anuradha. The first pictures we saw of Paloma was where she was holding a gun! Yet, both Avnish and I realized that she’ll suit the part of Meghna.”

Actor Sooraj Pancholi Acquitted In Jiah Khan Death By Suicide Case
Jiah Khan Suicide Case: The 25-year-old, an American citizen, was found hanging at her Juhu home in Mumbai on June 3, 2013.
New Delhi: Almost a decade after actor Jiah Khan’s death by suicide, a special CBI court in Mumbai today acquitted her boyfriend and film star Sooraj Pancholi of abetment charges. Jiah Khan, 25, was found hanging at her Juhu home in Mumbai on June 3, 2013. Police later arrested Sooraj Pancholi on the basis of a six-page letter, purportedly written by Jiah, and booked him for abetment of suicide. Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan had claimed that she was killed.
Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court judge AS Sayyad directed the accused to step forward, asking 32-year-old Mr Pancholi his name, and pronounced — “Due to paucity of evidence, Sooraj Pancholi is acquitted”.
Sooraj Pancholi, the son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, faced a jail term of up to 10 years if convicted. His mother accompanied him to the court for the verdict.
Mr Pancholi was arrested in the case in June 2013 and released on bail in July 2013.
Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan, a key prosecution witness in the case, had told the court that she believed it to be a case of murder and not suicide. The Bombay High Court last year dismissed her petition seeking a fresh investigation into the case.
Reacting to the verdict, she reiterated that her daughter was killed. “The charge of abetment to suicide has gone. But how did my child die? This is a case of murder…will approach the high court,” she told news agency ANI, adding that the cause of Jiah’s death “has not yet been determined”.
“The verdict is on alleged suicide, but I have always maintained that Jiah was murdered. This, in fact, strengthens my case”,” she told NDTV.
The judge, AS Sayyad, last week heard the final arguments of both sides and reserved his judgment in the case.
The CBI had alleged that the letter seized by the Mumbai police, which probed the case initially, was written by Jiah Khan.
The note narrated Jiah Khan’s “intimate relationship, physical abuse, and mental and physical torture” allegedly at the hands of Sooraj Pancholi which led her to die by suicide, the central agency said.
In his final statement to the court on April 12, 2023, Sooraj Pancholi said that he had been booked in a false case and that he was the victim of a false prosecution and persecution. He claimed he had broken down when he heard about Jiah’s death, and said, “I had lost the most important person of my life and the woman whom I truly loved.”
Jiah Khan is best known for her performance in the Hindi film “Nishabd” starring Amitabh Bachchan.

★ Sooraj Barjatya: Salman is easily the most family-oriented person I know!
26 November,2022
Weeks after Khan announced their next, Barjatya on how superstar enjoys playing mellow characters in his family dramas despite his bad-boy image
Two things are constant in Sooraj Barjatya movies — family values, and Salman Khan aka Prem. His last directorial venture Uunchai, however, did not feature his favourite character. At the film’s premiere earlier this month, much to the delight of fans, Khan announced that he would reprise his much-loved character Prem in Barjatya’s next. “I will begin working on the script after my son Avnish’s directorial debut is [wrapped up],” begins the filmmaker.
Barjatya is arguably the only one who brings Khan’s mellow side to the screen. In his universe, the superstar’s Prem is an obedient, soft-spoken and family-loving man — a persona that is at odds with the actor’s controversial, bad-boy image off screen. “Simplicity and goodness are [qualities] I would connect with Salman. He keeps telling me, ‘Sooraj babu, bahar toh main sab roles karta hoon. Yahan wohi karte hai, jo humne pehle kiya hai.’ With me, he wants to do films that reflect simple lives where you sit with family and friends, and chat. Salman is easily the most family-oriented person I know.”
Over the past four decades, the two have given us many family dramas — from Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989) to Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), from Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999) to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015). Their next will be a family entertainer with a difference, promises the director, agreeing that there has been a shift in his perspective since Uunchai. “I have made only seven films so far. Now, it’s time to offer movies that [come] from my soul, rather than trying to make what sells.”
Interestingly, Barjatya, in the capacity of a friend, had bounced Uunchai’s idea off Khan. “Salman said he’d put on some weight, and play the role. [But] I told him that with him, comes his image. Everyone knows that he is so fit, he can climb Mount Everest [easily]. I wanted older actors for the film. With Salman, it has never been that we cannot work with other people. It’s all about wishing well for each other’
