A Small Guide for Fanmon Crafting: Baby Digimon Edition
(Will I actually make more of these for higher levels? Probably not)
Here is quick run-down of general lore and very basic information about Baby Digimon (I and II) and some small statistics for the purposes of making fanmon that seem like they could fit into canon really well and don’t “break any rules”- that isn’t to say there’s rules to how you can and can’t make fanmon!! Do what you want, this is just here so you don’t have to do research and read all the Reference Book Entries on your own if you wanted to stick to the null lore
Also, quick note; there isn’t much to say about designing Baby I Digimon, but there is a lot more info about common/uncommon traits for Baby II
So, let’s get started!
Baby I
Based on the info of 39 Digimon (all Baby I Digimon as of me writing this)
They generally have non-existant powers and are described as incapable of fighting (most of them use acidic bubbles as their primary “attacks”, Jyarimon uses hot bubbles (so there can be slight variation), some shoot out small streams of air or water, others just flee)
They don’t tend to have much variation when it comes to their personalities, most Baby I Digimon are meant to be friendly and/or curious, others are just widdle babbies
Usually these Digimon don’t have clothes or equipment with them with VERY FEW exceptions; there are however at least 3 Baby I Digimon with pacifiers
A lot of these Digimon are described as being extremely light, to the point that many either intentionally or unintentionally moving around by being carried away by wind
Pitchmon is supposedly the smallest Digimon, while Poyomon is the most primitive. Zeri+Cocomon are known to be the only Digimon that can be born from the same DigiEgg as twins (but they can be born as on their own as well)
Most of these Digimon are shaped like balls, some looking slightly more like jelly
Most of these Digimon are also described as being incredibly soft; even if they have a pointy horn or something similar, they’re still soft (so like, they’re squishies) (Bandai we need this merch)
Usually these Digimon are classified either as having no Attribute at all, or are Free
I looked at all the different Types Baby I Digimon come in, and in total there were 11 types. That said, 28 of the 39 Digimon were in the Slime-category, making Slime the biggest Type, there being a 71,7% chance a random Baby I Digimon is a Slime. The second largest group was Seed, with whopping two Digimon (5,1% chance). The remaining 9 groups all had a single Digimon in each (2,5% chance).
Now I do want to note that while Slime is by far the biggest group and your Fanmon would be most likely one of those, it doesn’t mean these Digimon are all uniform; some of them look like pudding like Punimon, a fuzz ball like Relemon, goo like Poyomon or a literal explosive like Bommon and Bombmon.
A quick rundown of all the Types in this Level:
Armor: Cotsucomon
Chick: Puwamon
Machine: Choromon
Mutant: Algomon (Baby I)
Seed: Nyokimon and Yuramon
Small Angel: Puttimon
Smoke: Mokumon
Spirit: Pafumon
Unknown: Kuramon
Weapon: Sakumon
Slime (and I’m not listing the Digimon for this one)
Baby II
Based on the info of 49 Digimon (all Baby II Digimon as of me writing this)
These Digimon still tend to be classified as having to Attribute or as being Free, with very few Digimon that have been classified as having some other Attribute (Pagumon having been classified as a Virus at some point being one)
Baby II Digimon tend to start to have their own unique personalities that’re a lot more varied, to the point that I couldn’t really find any patterns in their descriptions
Baby II Digimon also have a lot more unique abilities and attacks, though they’re still generally not thought to be ready for battle
Many Baby II Digimon are still thought to be soft, but this time if one has a pointy horn, it’s actually probably pretty sharp!
Most Baby II Digimon look like disembodied heads with various extensions to their bodies like tails or ears.
There are a few Digimon that really stand out a lot in how they look when compared to the rest, like Arkadimon (Baby) and Kozenimon, but these are usually the exception (and sometimes Digimon that weren’t nececarily designed to look like Baby II Digimon)
There were about four Digimon that had kind of a naga-like body, where there was a distinct head and torso with flappy, wing-like “arms” but no legs (for example Pukamon); nothing was said about this bodytype being unusual or rare for this level
Wings are considdered an unusual trait for Baby II Digimon, there being only 7 out of 49 Digimon with obvious wings (14,2%)
Baby II Digimon that stand on two legs, have hands and a torso that’s separate from their body are also considdered unusual, there only being two Digimon like this (Chibimon and Cupimon) (4%)
Although it was stated to be extremely rare (in Tokomon’s entry), there were 10 Digimon that had four itty-bitty legs to run on, that being whopping 20,4% of these Digimon.
(So you can look at this lore in two ways; either four-legged Baby II Digimon are meant to be rarer than than bipedal and thus you should be more likely to make bipedal Baby IIs than quadrupedal Baby IIs, OR lore from Tokomon’s original Reference Book Entry is outdated and you should obey the numbers instead) ((Or ignore the canon because your fanmon are allowed to be special))
Baby II Digimon are ever so slightly more spread out when it comes to Types, although some of that has to do with the amout of Types nearly doubling. This time there were 18 distinct groups, and while most of them still only contained a single Digimon, a few had a few more.
I do want to note that there were four Digimon that have not been giving formal Types, Moonmon, Sunmon, Arkadimon (Baby) and Chicchimon being the ones.
The largest group this time was Lesser, with 23 Digimon out of 49 in it (46,9%). The second largest group was Baby Dragon with three Digimon in it (6,1%), followed by Mutant, Larva and Bulb, each having two in them.
Once again, a quick rundown of all the Types (from least to most Digimon):
Amphibian: Upamon
Armor: Kakkinmon
Braun: Monimon
Chick: Pinamon
Flame: Peti Meramon
Food: Torikara Ballmon
Machine: Missimon
Minor: Pickmon
Plant: Budmon
Small Angel: Cupimon
Small Bird: Poromon
Unknown: Tsumemon
Weapon: Sakuttomon
Bulb: Pyocomon and Tanemon
Larva: Minomon and Puroromon
Mutant: Algomon (Baby II) and Kozenimon
Baby Dragon: BabyDmon, Chibimon and Hopmon
Lesser (once again, not listing all of these)
#DigiSafe#Text post#IDK about you but I have a slight obsession with making sure my fan garbage is as canon compliant as I can make it#In the sense that if I wanted to design 10 Baby I Digimon I really would be like ''7 need to be Slimes and the rest whatever''#So this is really more for myself than anyone else#But I figured if anyone else was weirdly obsessed with being canon compliant like me- this is for you#My fellow pedantic people#Also sorry there isn't really a percentage for how many B2 Digimon tend to be heads#It's just really hard to diffrentiate between ''head'' and ''weird jelly thing'' and ''vaguely looks like a plant'' etc#Like the line is oddly thin there#Also the main reason I don't think I'd do more of these for the remaining levels is that there isn't as much like rules or commonalities#to make like a guide. The most I can at least remember from the top of my head was that according to Renamon's Profile#''Tall and slender'' Child level Digimon like it are unusual or kind of a rarity#So implying most tend to be smaller and chumbier#So with the rest it would really have to be more based on like my personal visual analysis rather than lore from the Profiles and numbers#And I did want to try and keep this as like. Factual and not-opinionated as possible#Also like Dragon Digimon are kinda supposed to be like rare but because of Main Character syndrome they're pretty common in the franchise#So if I did do like the math it'd be like ''Dragon Digimon are rare! Only 40% of Child Level Digimon are Dragons!'' which djkfhkjdhgsfg#ANYWAYS I HOPE Y'ALL ENJOY THIS
