I thiiiiiiink you have three main OCS, so: 7, 11, and 12! one question for each and apply them to which you'd like to answer for!! then for ALL of them (or whomever it applies), 14! c:
OC Secret Ask List
Haha, correct! There is technically a fourth, but she's a lil adorable robot who basically exists to be to Donny what Klunk is to Mikey, so I think we can leave her out XD
7) Vice-Versa! If your OC is in the modern day, what fantasy class would they be? Would they be a different race?
Hmmmm, Primavera would still be an archer... probably would be a ranger. I could also see her being an elf because of the whole "lived in a forest for much of her life" thing.
11) What was your inspiration for your OC?
Cecilia is the trickiest one to pin down a specific inspiration for. In her original "Marietta" incarnation, I think the inspiration for her was Aelita from Code Lyoko? The current official version of her character, on the other hand, is a pretty big mystery. I only know that I went with a naginata for her weapon because I thought it complimented Leo's katanas (let it be said, though, that I have considered replacing it with a kama just because I'm pretty sure no ninja in their right mind would wield a weapon like hers)
12) Does your OC interact with other people's OC? If so, who's their best OC friend?
@ dreamstormdragon and I have talked about Iseult and Lorelei meeting before. Since we ship our OCs with Donny, we basically imagined them meeting up in the Battle Nexus to chat, support each other, and give advice when it comes to purple boi, haha
14) Who's a character your OC cannot stand! It's on sight when they see them!
For Iseult, it's Mona Lisa. Mona Lisa manages to absolutely drive her up the wall in ways that Mikey never seems to do despite them both being equally mischievous. (The best part is that her dislike is entirely one-sided; Mona just really enjoys seeing the way her fur puffs up when angry.)
Speaking of Mikey, for Primavera, she original despised him out of jealousy; she has major insecurities regarding her skill in battle and whether she's of worth, and to see someone so naturally gifted in martial arts rarely bothering to actually put the work in feels like a slap in the face to her. Fortunately, Mikey manages to eventually win her over, and they become the most chaotic of younger siblings as a result.
Cecilia doesn't really have anyone she truly dislikes. She is pretty tolerant of others for the most part? Though I can see her quietly leaving the room when Raph and Mikey have one of their sibling roughhousing moments. She just doesn't want to deal with it.

An Intro to my characters in TMA AU I have with my pal @big_nerd_boi (all characters shown are mine.)
TMA: Vide Noir AU sketches. Vandhin Keanocero (KEY-no-sero) + his parents:
1: Vandhin's design for this AU. (has a slight association with The Eye/The Web) currently aged 23 in the sketch (5 years after Marietta's death) he's usually seen wearing goth makeup at ALL times except in private but i didn't want to cover his face, i want y'all to see the similarities between he and his dad. His main religion is paganism/witchcraft. Despises Catholicism due to the abuse he suffered from his mother.
2: Marietta "Mari" Clara Vides, Daughter of Gertrude Robinson (Mari is the avatar of The Corruption/The Desolation) (Mari pronounced as "Mary") she's aged 21 in this sketch (before Vandhin) devout catholic woman (Gertrude is Spaniard in this AU and i KNOW her ass was strict with religion when she raised Mari.)
3: Azahara Ilhuicatl Izumi Keanocero, missing husband of Mari. (Associated with The Eye/The Web) Aged 20 in this sketch (before Vandhin) (Azahara is indigenous on both sides so he practiced spirituality and paganism. Both he and Mari raised Vandhin in both religions)
Vandhin (he/they, cis, queer) is the grandson of Gertrude Robinson, he and his parents replace Gerard Keay and his own parents in this AU i have with BNB. He looks exactly like his father, and Marietta didn't like that. His upbringing with his mother after his father went missing on a work trip with Gertrude when Vanny was around 5, was absolutely horrible. Lots of abuse in all kinds. Marietta eventually died when Vandhin was 18. Vanny is now 23 in the AU i have with Ink.
Vandhin is spanish/Mexican/Japanese. Marietta/Gertrude being Spaniard and Azahara being Mexican/Japanese. Vandhin was born into the supernatural and has known about the entities his entire life, he's been collecting statements, hunting down the unknown, and burning leitners for as long as he can remember. Gertrude eventually gets Vandhin to move to London to work in the Magnus Institute with her and the others. He obliges, but doesn't trust Gertrude one bit.
Michael Shelley (he/him, transmasc, queer) is his love interest tehehe.
Fun fact: Vandhin got his ears modified to look like that and he has natural fangs. So when Michael met him, poor guy was convinced he was a vampire.
The RP i have with Ink is so fucking fun i love this AU so much.

Drunk Cho telling Harry he’s “the one that got away”
#I’m totally jamming out to KP right now
On May 2nd every year, Dumbledore's Army got together to grieve in remembrance about all of the loved ones they had lost. And on the night of May 2nd, they got wasted.
May 2nd, 2002 was no different.
Five years after the events of the Final Battle, the wounds were no longer fresh, but they still ached from their loss.
At the Hogshead, an exclussive party was being held, and Cho Chang sat alone at the bar.
She always attended these events even though she felt that sometimes she was not welcome. Just because it was her friend who originally betrayed the group of vigallantes does not mean she should be exiled for her behavior. Cho is not even sure the last time she talked to Mariettta.
Downing another shot (was that her fifth or sixth at this point?) she got up from her stool, making her way over to the corner where the one person that she had unconsciously been staring at all night was standing.
Harry Potter was alone, watching the group of people toast to the lives who had been lost jsut five years ago. He was lost in his thoughts that he never realized his ex-girlfriend was making his way over to him until it was too late to avoid her.
"Er- Hi."
"Hi Harry," Cho slurred. She placed her hands on the wall to steady herself. She did not come over here with any sort of agenda, but Harry always made her feel safe so it was no shock to her that she sought out his comfort while intoxicated. "It is so nice to see you here."
"You too, Cho," Harry replied, awkardly looking around her, searching the room for something.
"I just wanted to say thanks for everything you have done," Cho said, her head tilting back against the cool stone wall of the pub. The world was spinning around her, but he wall should keep her steady.
"Er.. it was really no problem," Harry said, avoiding eye contact.
Cho could not have that. She needed him to understand. Pushing herself off the wall, she grabbed onto Harry to steady herself. "I don't think you understand how special you are, Harry," Cho said, "I really appreciate everything you've done." She continued to hold on to him as the world around her started to spin. The tables moved like they were on the ceiling, the candles on the ceiling moved to the floor.
Cho sighed to herself, closing her eyes, trying to steady herself. The next words out of her mouth slipped without her truly realizing it.
"Sometimes I feel like you were the one for me and the one who slipped away. I'm sorry for not standing up against Marietta when she betrayed us."
Warm hands encircled her wrists stabilizing her and Cho felt herself began to sway.
"I'll take her home."
Cho cracked her eyes open to see Ginny Weasley standing next to her, holding her up. The next thing she knew, Cho felt like she was being squished inside out being side along apparated.
Subconsciously, Cho felt Ginny tuck her into bed. Uncomfortable robes were removed from her body and replaced with cozy sweatpants to sleep in.
"I left a glass of water for you in the morning," Ginny said.
Cho reached out, grabbing Ginny's wrist, "I am glad you have Harry. He is a good man."
Ginny paused, removing her wrist from Cho's grasp then twidling the diamond ring on her own left hand. "He is. Goodnight Cho."
"Night, Ginny," Cho replied before her mind faded into blackness.

Experience and Reputation: Look for painters with a proven track record and positive customer reviews. Painters with experience have a higher chance of producing excellent work and managing any difficulties that may come up during the project.
Licensing and Insurance: Verify the painting contractor's insurance and license status. This protects you from liability in case of accidents or damages and guarantees that the contractor meets industry standards.
Portfolio and References: Reviewing a painter's portfolio and seeking references from past clients can provide valuable insights into their artistry and reliability. This helps you gauge their style and quality of work.
Detailed Estimate: A trustworthy painter will provide you with a comprehensive written estimate that includes the supplies needed, the labor that has to be done, and the final cost. This transparency helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures both parties are aligned.
Warranty and Guarantee: Inquire about any warranties or guarantees the painter offers. A warranty on artistry demonstrates confidence in their services and provides peace of mind that any issues will be addressed.

Blorbo game- barfo?
[The ask game]
[Barfo]
Derek Hawke from the Marietta Danver Trilogy by Jennifer Wilde/Tom E. Huff. He's one of the worst romantic heroes ever.
Hawke treated the woman he loved terribly, and punished other women in Marietta's stead after selling her away out of spite. Worse still, he didn't apologize for selling the heroine to a guy he assumed was going to put in her a brothel. Hawke told her he was filled with remorse over it — couldn't be bothered with saying the words "I'm sorry", huh? — and wanted to "make things up to her", but that's not an apology. Especially if one doesn't change.
And not long after that, he killed a guy Marietta cared about in a duel, pinned the blame on her (she didn't make you duel the guy, asshole), and left her yet again. Sure, they got back together following him saving her life, but I wouldn't count this as an example of him making amends — given the fact he kept being a jerk to her come book 2. Regaining his aristocratic position had always mattered more to him than Marietta. Deep down, she knew this was the case; even when she was still deluding herself into thinking he would change his ways on her account:
"The past was still there, an invisible barrier between us. He loved me. He had come back to America to claim me, but now that I was his he was strangely discontent.
Deep inside, I sensed the reason why. He loved me, yes, but he loved me in spite of himself. His love for me was a compulsion, beyond his control, as mine for him was, and I sensed that he would have been much happier if he had been able to forget me, if he had been able to select a cool, demure, virginal English girl to be his bride, a girl with breeding and background and blood as blue as his, a girl worthy of becoming Lady Hawke and serving as chatelaine in that ancestral hall he had finally claimed as his rightful heritage. I had a fine education, could be as cool and demure and aristocratic as any pink and blonde miss. I had blue blood, too, for my father had been the Duke of Stanton, but my mother had been a barmaid at the Red Lion Inn, and with the inbred snobbery he couldn’t really help, Derek couldn’t forget that, couldn’t forget I was illegitimate and, worse, far from pure.
Sensibly, I faced that fact. Derek didn’t want to love me, but he did, and I intended to prove that I was worthy of that love."
"I'm going to be his wife, not a secret mistress on the side. Just you wait!"
Nope! Marietta ended up getting kidnapped by pirates. What did Hawk do? Didn't even try looking for her! He assumed she had been killed by the pirates (you couldn't lift at least one finger to confirm her death, man?), so he married a full blue-blooded woman and moved on with his life. Meanwhile, Marietta tried returning to him immediately upon finding out he was still alive. Then, when she found him at last, she finally acknowledged the truth: Derek was never going to marry her, the illegitimate daughter of an aristocrat and a barmaid. She would be nothing more than his mistress.
Thus, she left him for good. What's that, Derek? You feel nothing for the lady you WILLINGLY married, and never stopped loving Marietta? You've been miserable without her? Too bad! She didn't look back. If you had been a slightly better lover, you wouldn't have let Marietta's lower social status stand between the two of you.
I like to think Hawke would have returned as a full-on villain in a fourth Marietta Danver book. She and the man who replaced Hawke did not get married in the third one (it's as if Huff had been saving a wedding for another book). Hawke was unhappy despite getting everything he wanted — everything except Marietta. He would've been a fantastic final obstacle to throw at the couple. If she won't be his mistress, he'll make her his prisoner! I don't know for sure if that's how Hawke would have proceeded, but I wouldn't put it past him. Unfortunately, Huff died six years after he wrote the third Marietta Danver book. A fourth one is never happening.
Anyway, Derek Hawke sucks. Not even in a "you love to hate him" sort of way.

Muskingum River Navigation Historic District
Greer Road
McConnelsville OH 43756
The Muskingum River Navigation Historic District is a 6,004 acre historic district in Ohio's Coshocton, Morgan, Muskingum, and Washington counties. The Muskingum River Improvement, started in 1837 and completed 1841, played a key role in economic development of the Greater Ohio River Valley as one of the nation's first complete slackwater navigation systems for steam-powered vessels, and survives as the most intact system of large hand-operated locks in the United States. Southeastern Ohio's Muskingum River and its navigation system of 10 hand-operated locks dates from 1837 when area pioneers recognized the potential of the river as a shipping route for steam-powered vessels. The system of locks and dams permitted navigation upriver as far as the Ohio and Erie Canal at Dresden.
This was one of the earliest slackwater navigation systems built for steamboats in the U.S. The system included a three-mile, side-cut canal linking the Ohio and Erie Canal to the Muskingum at Dresden, with canal-boat-sized locks, a dam, and a 120-by-22-foot lock at Symmes Creek. Commercial shipping flourished on the river for 70 years, but was replaced by rail and motorized transportation after the turn of the century. Today, it is mostly recreational boaters and anglers who use the hand-operated locks to navigate the river from a point just north of Zanesville to Marietta.
The Muskingum River lock system was designated the first Navigation Historic District in the United States by the National Park Service. The Muskingum River Navigation System was also designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2001, and was listed with the National Register of Historic Places on February 9, 2007. The listing includes 12 contributing buildings, 32 contributing structures, and a contributing site. It is traversed by the Muskingum River Water Trail.

Is it okay to put new siding over old siding?
Giving a house or business structure a makeover and more security has undeniable appeal. Therefore, many property owners worry, "Can you put?" while considering a makeover for their front. The promise of maybe lower expenses, less mess, and a quicker transition is enticing. However, as with many things related to building and remodelling, the response isn't as simple as "yes" or "no." It necessitates a thorough examination of numerous variables and expert insights. Let's get started on this analysis by combining knowledge from professionals who install commercial and residential siding.
The Associated Elements
Type of Existing Siding: A significant factor in the choice is the type of siding you currently have. Certain materials can be covered with new siding, but others might not be as forgiving. It might be possible, for example, to install over flat surfaces such as existing wood or vinyl siding over old siding. Uneven surfaces, like brick or stucco, might provide difficulties, though.
Condition of the Current Siding: The state of your current siding is crucial, even if its design permits an overlay. Sagging vinyl, crumbling masonry, or rotting wood don't make good foundations for new siding. They can jeopardize the longevity and integrity of the recently installed system.
Building Codes and laws: Siding over pre-existing materials may be subject to local laws. Certain codes may forbid it, while others may permit it under specific conditions. Before making a choice, always confirm with municipal authorities or siding providers.
Insulation and ventilation: The building's insulation and ventilation may be impacted if siding is installed over pre-existing layers. Making sure the new layer doesn't affect the structure's thermal or breathability qualities is crucial.
Pros of Installing New Siding Over Old Siding
Cost-effective: Removing the old siding may save you money on labor and disposal fees.
Time-saving: Since the laborious removal step is omitted, directly overlaying can expedite the project schedule.
Extra Insulation: The addition of a new layer may result in more insulation, improving the building's energy efficiency.
Cons of Installing New Siding Over Old Siding
Possibility of Masking Problems: Overlapping siding may conceal hidden problems such as decay, mold, or insect infestations, which could later cause more serious concerns.
Increased Weight: The weight of two siding layers will be placed on the structure. While some buildings might be able to handle this, others would find it problematic.
Limitations in terms of aesthetics: The new siding may not look as seamless or flush as it would on a structure that has been taken down. This might affect the final visual result.
View of Experts
Residential Siding Contractors: People often advise being cautious when working on residential properties. Homes frequently have more elaborate designs, so there's a good chance that possible siding issues could go unnoticed. It is possible to assess whether overlaying is feasible by a thorough inspection.
Installation of Commercial Siding: Because overlaying can save money and time, it may be advantageous for commercial buildings, particularly those that are big. Commercial structures must, however, also make sure that the insulation and structural integrity of the building are not jeopardized by the additional layer.
Siding Replacement Companies: These professionals tend to recommend replacement, particularly if the current siding exhibits indications of deterioration, damage, or inefficiency. The new siding's optimal functional and aesthetic purpose is ensured by its fresh start.
Local Siding Services: Local services can provide customized guidance because they are acquainted with local building designs, local rules, and weather trends. In certain cases, they might support overlaying, while in others, they might recommend a total redesign.
The Conclusion
Are you searching for a reliable contractor for installing new siding over existing siding? If yes, Siding Depot can be the most perfect choice for all types of siding jobs such as siding replacement in Woodstock, siding installation in Roswell GA, and others. You can also get dumpster trailer rental in Marietta with them.

Cumberland Trail Seeking Citizens' Help on May 2
Cumberland Trail Fire Chief Tim R. Hall admits the current financial climate in the country is not the ideal time to be going to the voters, seeking additional funding. But that’s what it's come to as the fire district put a 6-mill replacement levy on the ballot for May 2, an increase of 1-mill on the current levy in place. Hall and the leadership at Cumberland Trail have done their due diligence in seeking other options for funding before having to come to the citizenry. Additional options became available after St. Clairsville council and city leadership opted to turn ownership of the main fire station on S. Marietta Street to the district. “When they gave us the building, that put us in a position to seek different grants and funding,” Hall said. “We met with USDA officials about grant funding, as well as low-interest loans that will go out to 40 years. “There’s also the state fire marshal’s revolving loan grant and we’ve applied for congressional dollars in the past.” The funds generated by the additional 1 mill, if approved, will go primarily toward a needed remodel and upgrades at the S. Marietta station. The original plan called for $1.5 million for the remodel, back in 2015 when the district first approached the then-council about acquiring ownership of the station. Twenty additional feet were added to the front expansion, along with a hose training tower in the back of the facility. Otherwise, the plans remained the same. But, with inflation costs, the estimated project costs increased from $1.5 to $3.7 million. That’s why even if the levy passes, the district will continue to seek additional funding elsewhere to help maximize the dollars. “We’re cautiously optimistic, but if successful, we’re still going to do our due diligence for the residents and if we can get something to offset the levy dollars, we’ll do so because we understand that people are struggling with the inflation,” Hall said. “The last thing we want to do is add millage to the levy.” This bathroom/laundry room also houses a singular shower stall, the only one presently in the station house. The kitchen will be moved upstairs and expanded in order to provide meals for up to 8-9 people at a time. The training and meeting room on the second floor also houses the facility's exercise equipment along the perimeter. The opposite side of the main upstairs room features the leadership office and the facility's one bunk room (second door from the left). Upgrades will greatly expand the bunk facilities on the second floor. Needed Upgrades The current 5-mill levy generates roughly $2.9 million annually. Should the 6-mill replacement pass, that number will increase to $3.4 million. A home valued at $150,000 will see an increase of roughly $5 per month. In addition to the expansion and remodel at the station, the money will help in debt payment on building improvements, as well as aid in staff retention plus filling vacant positions with new staff. Upon taking ownership of the building, Hall noted the district put together an internal committee, with representatives from each shift, as well as the part-time ranks, to determine areas of the station to target. The current bunk room, shower facility with its single shower, and kitchen are needed upgrades. At full staff, the station houses between 8-9 firefighters, operating in 24 hours on, and 48 hours off shifts for the full-time staff members; anywhere from 8 to 24 hours for part-timers. After a call, a line will form for the singular shower stall, which is far from convenient. At its previous max, the station technically had two “showers” available, as what amounted to a camp shower was erected in the far right bay during the height of COVID, out of necessity. The new plans call for a three-shower stall room, separate from the laundry, and separate from two bathrooms across the hall. The upstairs will feature multiple bunk rooms, a vast upgrade from the current one-room bunk house on the second floor. The kitchen will be expanded and moved upstairs, along with the dining room, which will now be separate from the day room. The present training/meeting room shares space with the station’s fitness equipment in the main area of the second floor. These will be moved downstairs and separated, along with separate offices for the chief, assistant chief, and fiscal office. The community room will also feature Murphy beds and seating for 40 plus, so in the event of inclement weather, citizens can be temporarily housed comfortably inside the district station house. “We can’t take in all city and township residents, but this room will have Murphy beds, seating for 45, plus full generator back up so we will have a place to temporarily place residents. “Our committee went through to determine our needs, not our wants, and the shower, the bunk room, the kitchen facilities, those were areas of need.” Hall said he and committee members toured other fire stations to get ideas for the renovations. They saw many things they’d like to have, but again, the focus was on needs, not wants. Without naming names, Hall mentioned there was one firehouse that had tiered, stadium-style seating in the station’s audio room? An in-house movie theater, who wouldn’t want that? But that’s not the plan here. The plan is to make needed additions. One moment of generosity has already helped the department. The house next to the station on S. Marietta previously owned by Susan Ozolins was donated to the district, free of charge. Along with it came a patch of green space that butts up against the present parking lot, behind the station. The house will be demolished and utilized as green space, but the parcel of land behind the station will help add to the parking spaces since some of the current parking spaces will be taken up by the proposed addition of the training tower. If approved, this space will be where the training tower will be constructed. The Training Tower and Staffing One big change between the original 2015 upgrade plans and now, is the addition of the hose training tower at the rear of the facility. In addition to offering great training opportunities without having to trek to Wintersville, or even the state fire academy in Reynoldsburg, its presence may also aid the citizens in the district with their homeowner’s insurance costs. The station’s current Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating is a four, but that could drop down to a three with the addition of the tower, along with other internal improvements already made. “A better rating means better insurance premiums,” Hall said. “And we believe we can move to three thanks to our internal controls and the (addition) of this tower.” It can also be utilized by other area departments, especially those who frequently partner with Cumberland Trail for mutual aid—departments like Barton, Lafferty, Neffs, and Wolfhurst. That tower will also provide an added future bonus down the line. The district’s current ladder truck was purchased in 2009 and has many years of service ahead of it. But, because of the dimensions of the current firehouse, the district could only purchase a 70-foot ladder truck. Nearby departments in Wheeling and Martins Ferry have space capacity and own ladder trucks 100 feet or longer. If the levy passes and the tower is built, when the current ladder truck needs to be replaced, the district can purchase a ladder truck of comparable size, allowing for a greater range of use. Lastly, levy funding will help Cumberland Trail retain firefighters and help fill open positions with new staff members. Local departments and districts likely will never compete with big metropolitan areas for salary, or the breakdown of fire vs. EMS calls. But CTFD would like to be competitive, salary-wise, at least within Belmont County. At present, it’s below. Assistant Chief Dan Grady noted that Cumberland Trail loses 2-3 members yearly to better pay at competing departments. The fire district provides for 23 full-time employees, plus the district’s CARES director. There are currently 22 part-time members of the district. Between Cumberland Trail’s two stations, they have a minimum of seven staff on duty at all times, with a preference for nine. The increased funding will help ensure that is a possibility. That number of employees is needed to handle the ever-increasing number of calls fielded by Cumberland Trail on a yearly basis. In 1990, CTFD fielded a total of 1,197 calls. That number gradually increased and first cracked the 3,000 call mark (3,044) in 2018 and, in 2022, broke the 4k barrier with 4,184—3,232 EMS calls to 952 fire calls. Hall is hopeful, given the fire district’s importance to the community, the citizens will come out on May 2 and show their support. These moves are needed, but Hall said not to just take his word for it. Stop down and see four yourself. “Come see our bunk room, our offices, our one shower room, and the wash bay shower we had to use during COVID,” Hall said. “We can agree to disagree. I want everyone to exercise their right to vote, either way. But, if you disagree, at least give me the opportunity to come to see our facility, see what it needs, see the wages we’re paying our men and women and what we’re trying to do here.” Read the full article

One For Sorrow, Two For Joy - The Yule Ball
*Bonus Content*
Series Masterlist
Summary: The Yule Ball wasn’t a fun night.
Word Count: 1151
Warnings: None. Just angst.
December 25, 1994
The Great Hall was spectacularly decorated, garlands speckled with mistletoe and ivy were strung across the hall and the walls had been consumed by silver, glittering frost. The long House tables had been replaced by smaller, circular tables able to fit a dozen or so each. It was meant to feel merry and magical, and it seemed it had left many in awe of its splendor. But for you, it left your stomach twisted in knots with the threat of tears lingering with every new discovery of Yuletide cheer.
"Why do you look so sad?" The Durmstrang boy next to you asked. He and his friends had decided to claim the other half of your table within minutes of you and your friends sitting down. With Cho sitting with the Champions as Cedric's date and Marietta off with Ernie somewhere, you, Sarah, and Audrey were left to sit in the shadow of the older, jollier students from the visiting school.
You shrugged, not wanting to discuss your life with a stranger. "Not really a party person."
"But parties are so much fun!" he said, raising his arm to his friends who responded with approving whoops. When your mood didn't instantly change, he leaned in and lowered his voice to ask, "Did no one ask you?"
It didn't seem like he was trying to be rude, his tone sounded genuinely surprised, but the question left a bitter taste. "Why would that matter? If I'm here not having fun with my friends, then no date could make it better."
"No! I did not mean to offend, it is just I know how girls can be overly emotional about things like that. And it’s surprising no one asked such a beautiful girl to this dance." The apologetic smile on his face and his moderate Eastern European accent reminded you that he had different customs and cultural expectations. Still, it didn't sit right with you.
"I'd rather be here with my friends than with a pity date." Roger had asked you only a day or two after the initial announcement about the ball–the same day his dad had sent you a package of pastries. Watching as he consistently missed his mouth when he tried to eat while staring at his beautiful date at the Champions table, it didn't seem like he took the rejection very hard.
"I'm much more fun than a boy is, anyway," Sarah interrupted with half a mouth full of pork chop. She'd been adventurous and ordered something she'd never heard of off the menu in the beginning, but when she realized Cuisses de Grenouille was French for frog legs, she no longer had a taste for adventure.
He said no more, only giving a forced smile before turning back to his friends and conversing in their native language while occasionally looking your way. Audrey didn't seem to mind her neighbor's attention as she twirled her hair and giggled at something he had said. You wished you could push your thoughts aside for a few hours and enjoy yourself too, but it didn't seem like a possibility.
"Doing okay?" Sarah asked.
No. No, you weren’t. All you wanted was to go home and be with Dad so he wasn't alone. "I'm fine."
She didn't buy it, but let you eat the legs in peace and started up a conversation with the girl who had sat on the other side of the guy Audrey was talking to.
Dinner wound down and once the food seemed to be all gone, Dumbledore stood up and away from the head table and asked everyone to follow suit. He waved his wand and the tables and chairs flew back along the walls and a platform raised itself up to your left. Several instruments were placed on the newly created stage, followed shortly by the Weird Sisters who were met with wild applause from hundreds of enthusiastic teens.
The Champions made their way onto the dance floor and Cho looked stunning as she danced with Cedric. They made the perfect couple. Harry looked rather uncomfortable as he spun with Parvati who was clearly taking the lead. Roger only tripped over his feet once as he drooled over Fleur. And Krum and his date were all smiles.
"Is that Hermione?" Sarah asked.
Squinting you could see it was. She looked beautiful but different. You liked her frizzy hair and how she had always embraced it. As long as she was happy though, it didn't really matter.
Slowly others began to join the dance floor. "Would you care to dance?" the boy Audrey had been talking to asked her. She was enthusiastic in accepting his hand and heading out on the floor on the heels of other couples. You watched as the floor flooded with smiling people having the time of their lives.
"May I have this dance?" the Durmstrang boy asked you.
"What? Oh, no. No thank you."
The boy seemed shocked at the refusal, muttering something under his breath as he walked away. Sarah nudged you, giving me a look that asked if you were okay. You weren’t. You didn't want to be there.
"Do you want to leave? We can go back to the dorm." It was kind of Sarah to offer, but you didn't want her to ruin her night.
"No, you should stay. Have fun."
She tried to brush it off, saying it wouldn't be fun without you, but you knew better. "Look, it'll only make me feel worse if you're missing out. Stay, have fun. Maybe ask someone to dance?" You gave a pointed stare in the direction of the girl she had been talking to earlier.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to be alone."
The girl gave a glance over and blushed before she turned away. "I'm sure. Go." You gave her a gentle push in the girl's direction, watching as she went up to her and asked her for a dance. The two walked out into the crowd together with giddy smiles and disappeared into the sea of dress robes and gowns.
For a few more minutes you watched as your classmates swirled and laughed in the musical chaos. Over the crowd, two tufts of bright red hair stood out. Fred and George were mixed into the madness, hopefully enjoying their nights. You held no contempt for whatever lucky girl George had asked that night. You doubted even his smiling face could have made you feel much better.
As the song ended, a round of applause erupted and mingled with the sound of a new, faster-paced one. Slipping out the door and climbing up the floors to the tower, the younger year students who hadn't been able to attend the ball gawked at you enviously. Away from all curious eyes and in the safety of your bed, you cried yourself to sleep holding on to the photo of last Christmas.

Unexpected flame (part 6) | Fred Weasley x Sirius Black's daughter
Believe it or not, but Gryffindors were known to have great parties. And, unlike Slytherin, they weren't too strict about who could enter the party. Everyone was welcomed, as long as they didn't damage their common room or picked fights - which was a basic rule.
Music blasted as Juliet danced with Luna, showing the blonde more modern moves. Ginny, on her end, was looking for Harry, thinking the small bit of alcohol she drank would be enough to ask the Chosen One to dance with her.
''Has any of you seen Harry?'' she asked, stumbling over to two girls with alcohol on her breath.
Juliet spotted him in a corner of the common room, looking at Cho Chung the way Ginny wished he was looking at her. ''I saw him going that way with Ron,'' she said, pointing in the opposite direction. ''Perhaps they went to get drinks.''
''If you see him, tell him I'm looking for him, okay?''
On that, she disappeared in the crowd.
''Should we tell her about Cho?'' Juliet nodded at the fellow Ravenclaw sitting with Marietta Edgecombe on a couch.
Luna followed her friend's gaze. ''Unless there's a possibility Cho and Harry might get together, I say no.''
Luna was right. Why crush Ginny's hopes when nothing was even close to be official? As far as Juliet knew, Cho was still hung on Cedric - his tragic loss still fairly recent - and grieving. She had seen her crying in front of his memorial by Hufflepuff's common room last week and she didn't look like she was ready to move on to another boyfriend anytime soon. Sorry harry.
''Do you think there is a chance that Harry might like Ginny back?''
''Perhaps. For now, I think he sees her more as his best friend's little sister than a love interest.''
''Hopefully he'll open his eyes and see how amazing she is.''
''Hopefully,'' Juliet agreed.
Over Luna' shoulder, Juliet caught sight of Fred who was looking rather hot in his button up with the first top buttons undone. It was a nice change from the sweaters. He was laughing with Lee Jordan and some other friends, a red cup on his right hand.
''Until summer is over,'' they had agreed, back in her bedroom at Grimmauld Place as Fred slipped her cami over her head, hands caressing the newly uncovered skin.
Back then, it had seemed to be a good agreement, but two month had passed since Juliet had last had a taste of the redhead's lips and she was craving him.
''I'm gonna get more beer. Would you like anything?'' Juliet asked, hoping Luna would say no so she didn't have to actually get beer. Juliet didn't really want beer. She just needed an excuse to wander away and go talk to Fred.
Luna declined her offer and kept dancing. She twirled on herself while making odd fly catching movements with her hands. Juliet shook her head. She really was one of a kind.
Juliet smoothed down her dress before walking over to the twins.
''Hey, Black,'' George greeted, seeing her approaching their way. ''Having fun at our party?''
Upon hearing her name, Fred had turned around, feeling his stomach tighten as she stopped before them. His eyes went up and down, from her sparkling eyes and lightly flushed cheeks to the thin straps on her shoulders, exposing a lot of skin up there. There was no denying, she looked hot.
''Very much,'' she replied with a grin. Around them, colorful lights were flashing in the room from some muggle device someone had brought, giving it a club-like ambiance. ''Ravenclaws have parties too, but nothing like this.''
''I think I saw Ginny by the fireplace,'' Fred said, assuming she was looking for his sister.
''Actually, it's you I was looking for. Fancy a dance, Weasley?'' Juliet asked boldly, biting down her bottom lip as she stared right at Fred.
''I can dance with you if he doesn't want to go-'' one of the twins' friends proposed, but his words were interrupted by an elbow nudge from Fred.
Fred put down his empty cup and followed Juliet to the dancing area of the common room, admiring how the black dress hugged her curves the right way as they walked.
Juliet knew what she was doing to him. She had put this dress on purpose, knowing it would get Fred's attention, missing how things were during summer.
Once they reached the dancing area, Juliet snaked her arms behind his neck and Fred pressed his forehead against Juliet's and followed her moves, not wishing to lose body contact with her.
''This is very different than the last time we danced together,'' Fred said, his breath tickling your neck.
Very different, indeed.
At the Yule Ball, Juliet was only looking to make good memories with her friends, but tonight, she was hoping to lure herself in Fred's arms - and bed.
She hummed.
As they danced, Juliet could smell Fred's cologne - which she had dearly missed. She could also smell the firewhiskey on his breath, the appetizer for a good night.
Known as the party-er one, it wasn't surprising that Fred Weasley wasn't a bad dancer - the guy had moves - and Juliet would be lying if she said she didn't like it. Fred's hands moved down her sides, easily following her moves.
They were probably giving a show to their classmates, but they certainly weren't the worst. Someone was most certainly making out in a corner with their hand under a skirt. Parties at Hogwarts were wild.
Feeling hot from dancing, Juliet flipped her hair over her shoulder as she turned around in his hold and began grinding her hips against Fred. The older boy smirked, enjoying this new position.
.
After a few songs, they parted ways and Juliet sat on a couch with Ginny, listening to her hating on Cho Chung.
''I don't see what he sees in her.''
She wasn't wrong.
''They have nothing in common!''
''Beside quidditch, but they aren't on the same team.''
''I like quidditch too,'' the redhead recalled. ''I just made it to the team. I'm only a substitute seeker, but that's a start, right?''
Juliet abstained to tell her that Cho was the official Ravenclaw seeker.
''And Harry needs spice in his life. Not someone bland like Cho.''
''Look at my hair, I'm spice.'' Ginny flicked a piece of her ginger hair and Juliet brought her lips to her red cup.
Juliet's fun was cut short and replaced by jealousy as she watched Fred and Angelina dance together by the drink table. They weren't dancing the way she and him had been earlier, but it still fuelled her stomach with jealousy. How could he?! Juliet's jaw clenched, but she reminded herself that Fred wasn't hers.
''Do you want a refill? I'm gonna get more beer.'' Ginny said, getting up from the couch. She stumbled a bit, but regained her balance.
''Firewhiskey.''
.
Hours later, Juliet was still on the couch, but Ginny was no longer by her side. Her eyes were feeling heavy and she was getting sleepy.
Before she could pass out, George found her. ''Juliet? Merlin's beard,'' he said under his breath, concerned about her. ''How much did you drink?''
She shrugged, not responding to his question and George sighed. He glanced around for his sister or Luna, but none of them were in sight. He couldn't leave her there. Not knowing what else to do, George slid her arm around his neck and brought her up to his dorm with Lee's help.
He couldn't get her to her dorm because of the stupid old-fashion protection rule for the girls' dormitory and it would also require getting into the Ravenclaw headquarters - and George had no idea how to do that. Their passwords were stupid riddles and they weren't his forte.
The boys put her down on Fred's bed, George's having Weasley Wheezes samples on it. Why hadn't he put it away before going down in the common room to party?
''Is she okay?'' Lee asked George before going to the bathroom to get ready for bed.
''Yeah. She just needs sleep.''
''Freddie?'' Juliet asked drowsily, eyes barely open.
George smiled apologetically. ''Wrong one,'' he told her gently. He sat on the bed and removed her shoes, thankful it wasn't one of those complicated, lace up ones.
She nuzzled in the pillow and closed her eyes again. Why had she drank this much?
George was about to tuck her in when the door opened and Fred walked in, still in a party mood. He had only come up to get some sweets to sell downstairs, but he stopped abruptly when he saw Juliet laying on his bed, looking knocked out.
''Finally, you're here.''
''Why did you bring her here? I'm not her boyfriend.'' He sounded bitter and a little drunk too.
''What was I supposed to do? Leave her on the couch? I know I'm the responsible twin, but I assumed you had common thinking.''
Fred sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. George was right. Taking her to their room was smart. Gryffindors weren't wrong-minded, but when alcohol was involved, anyone could've taken advantage of her. Fred felt sick at the idea.
''Sorry. I just...I had a long night.''
''You're not the only one, as you can see.'' George nodded at Juliet.
She reached out and grabbed at one of the twins' arm. ''Freddie? Is that you?''
''Yeah, it's me,'' he replied and sat on the bed, giving his attention to the raven haired girl.
''Can you stay with me?''
