Jay, but he isekai-ed into one of those harem villainess stories.
how dare you call me out
Jay was reading a new series on request of his mom, called "The Siege of Sapphire".
It was a good read, the Villain being in a love triangle with the Princess and the Main Character.
The Villain was a Duke that was in love with the Princess, but since the Main Character swooped in as a national hero, they were loved by the royal family and the princess had an affair. (but wahhhh they're in love and the villain was sooooo bad /s)
Jay didn't like the villain cause he was a clingy, egotistical, insecure, immature young man that never understood why the princess wanted some independence (gee who does that remind him of?)
The Villain eventually tried raising a rebellion and was killed by the main character, and his entire family were exiled or executed for being related regardless of involvement.
Jay didn't like that, a lot of the family were elderly and young that had no clue what the Villain did until he was dead.
So when one mission gave him a good bonk on the head and some building debris fell on him- he woke up as Jullian Walek, Duke of the Sapphire Kingdom.
A lot of characters seem to look or act like his friends and family at home??? So it wasn't him, these other characters are like his own back in Ninjago.
His parents are his bio, but they've been busy doing their own stuff like partying an being unfaithful.
"Jullian" was instead raised by his loving grandparent, Edward and Eveline. The first to be executed in the og story.
The princess Nala (Nya) he tries to break off the engagement with as they grow into teens cause he 1. wants to support her and 2. wants to avoid meeting the hero.
Her older brother Kane (Kai) seems to be confused by "Jullian's" refusal to marry his sister.
A young servant Zeke (Zane) is his best friend and essentially his "lady in waiting".
And the hero, Corin (Cole), comes in and somehow still ran into "Jullian" and now Corin is being hosted at the Walek Mansion instead of the Princess' castle???
Something Jay skimmed over when reading the book was that it was written by a new author that hated how normal love triangles was always two guys directing their attention to one girl.
A new approach the author wrote was to bridge the gap between the two men.
What Jay failed to remember is that Corin and the og Jullian had something going on behind the scenes, but it ended without any resolution for Corin to immediately become engaged with Princess Nala. And og Jullian was pissed that both his love interests dumped him to be together.
(The author got heavily edited/censored, so og Jullain and Corin's romance was never properly explored)
So now it's not just a plan to avoid marrying Nala (even with the better relationship they have). Now he has to avoid that and getting involved with Corin!
Somehow Zeke and Kane are starting to harbor feelings towards "Jullian" too?????
Jay wants to go home...

What happens to Lady Penelope (Pixal) after Jay saves her?
Lady Penelope was a minor character who only showed up for a few chapters as an advocate against the mass killing of gem beasts. When she was silently married to the aristocrat, she essentially disappeared without a passing mention. Pretty much, hubby has been poisoning his wives over time to take them out and keep their money, but Penelope caught him in the act of poisoning her drink, and he resorted to murdering her.
Jay never liked that in the original story, so intervening with her death and saving Penelope made him happy. The downside to saving her was that now she has to go through a messy divorce that will result in her dowry being lost to her husband.
She now hides in the sanctuary of Walek Mansion and Jay is hellbent on protecting her from his parent's demand to return her to her crappy husband. The others have joined in too and- what's this? A possible extended romance blooming between her, Zeke, and Kane? A healthy love triangle???
But with her alive, a whole new plot line was opened up that Jay never suspected.
Ask yourself, what would happen if a human were to ever have their bones exposed to gem beast bones, the very gems their structures is made of? What are the benefits and drawbacks to a human gaining magical powers through forced bone grafting...?

OG Zeke in the novel: *Shot out of the air because Corin feared he was going to reveal his and Nala's hiding spot when in reality Zeke was trying to get back to OG Jullian and plead with him to stop, thus his death triggering Jullian to go batshit crazy.*
Jay reading the novel: Wow, it's as if killing the last person capable of keeping the villain at bay was a bad idea.
Cole reading over Jay's shoulder: He thought Ezekiel was a spy!
Jay: Zeke was pleading for them to talk!
Cole: Jullian was attacking the capitol at that point!
Jay: He only killed his parents!
Cole: To take over the throne!
Jay: Kane is already king!
Zane: Those two are oddly critical of that book.
Nya: Jay thinks Jullian should've ran away with Ezekiel.
Zane: They should've. Sounds like everything could have been avoided if they left the capitol together... Or murdered Jullian's parents way sooner.
Nya: ⚆_⚆

Another reason gems are kept within the high ranks (royal/army) is due to their magical potency. The rarer the monster, the more powerful the gem is.
The gem in Jullian's skull? An experiment done by his father to test the transfer of power of a gem to a human. It's a tiny shard compared to a full gem, but its power still is strong enough to push hair growth and other side effects that OG Jullian fully leaned into...

"Jullian": Why does my hair grow so much?
"Jullain": ... OH RIGHT, I HAVE A GEM IN MY SKULL.
Corin: You have a- how!?
"Jullian": My dad experimented on me as a baby to test gem potency.
"Jullian": I almost forgot that tidbit from chapter 38...
Corin: Chapter?
"Jullian", sweating: My dad's alchemists were very thorough .

What did Cole do to regain recognition as a national hero in the story? Did he do the classic knight killing a dragon (Grief-Bringer) or fighting off the tyrant(Vangelis) of a neighboring kingdom?
Yes to the Dragon thing, kinda yes to Vangelis.
Corin/Cole is an illegitimate child to Duchess Lilian, who had an affair with her lover Lucio. Corin was kept as he was the only boy born of one younger daughter.
Valentino was Lilian's actual husband who hated Corin, and at some point, bribed a royal captain to take the boy away and force him on the front lines so his daughter would be the only one valid for Lilian's inheritance. Corin lived and climbed the rank as an unrecognized Duke, and eventually he and his battalion of only 15 were faced up against a gem beast.
The name of the novel contains Sapphire, which in that universe is only exist as the collected bone matter to many magical beasts. The rich and royal connected to any army/warriors are the only ones known to have access to the gems and such jewelry that is other than carved stone/wood.
Corin slayed the in-universe Grief Bringer and opened its carcass to discover that the beast consumed other beasts to satiate its hunger. And in the dead center was one beast with a heart made of sapphire. He let the others of his battalion split up the gems for themselves and the royals, while he originally gifted the sapphire heart to Princess Nala.
With his reputation as the Grief Slayer, he was set in a new rank higher than his family and used it to force his awful stepfather out of their home.
In the new universe, it seems that Corin may be gifting the sapphire to Princess Nala. But not as a wedding proposal...

@ninja-gram
He does, any isekai protag set into the villain role that doesn't want to do evil things.
2 things he changed the timing on, and 1 thing he outright stopped.
Jay set the meeting to end his engagement with Princess Nala wayyy ahead of time.
The OG Jullian didn't even initiate the meeting in the story, it was Nala, because she found out he was seeking avenues to usurps Prince Kane as the direct heir.
He pushed his parents to allow him and Zeke to leave the capitol to see Zeke's father one last time before they died.
The OG Jullian found out about Zeke's father dying and demanded the old man be brought to the Walek Mansion- but the stress of transport and the neglect from the escorts caused the man to pass. Sure, OG Jullian rightfully lost his shit yet ruthlessly had the escort executed, but he could never fully console his friend's loss.
OG Jullian's worst offense before going full villain was setting up Corin's sister, Vanessa (Vania), with a shady aristocrat that was already through 5 wives. All died under "unknown" circumstances, and Vanessa was sadly dead wife number 6 at the height of his attack against the capitol.
Jay straight up blew the whistle on the guy and "semi"-stabbed him when he was attempting to murder wife number 5, Lady Penelope (aka Pixal).
Any isekai questions?
