#Shinichi Kudo's New York Case (Part 2)

While Shinichi has only returned five times, we also have several flashbacks of him. Regarding this, I would like to know which are your favorite flashback episodes and which ones you like the least and why.

My favorite flashback episode will always be the New York Case because that case is amongst my top 5 favorite cases ever and really all you have to do is watch/read the New York Case to understand why. It’s one of those very round, nearly perfect episodes where the case is interesting, the trick is outstanding, the motives are somewhat understandable and the side characters are compelling. Plus it’s got Yukiko in it, which automatically makes the episode better, and it’s one of the ultimate ShinRan episodes. 

It is also the episode in which Shinichi says one of my favorite quotes of all time. 

Plus, the case that precedes it is also pretty great and the way Aoyama leads us from one case to the other is pretty awesome. 

So. New York. Definitely top 1 flashback episode. 

After that they’re all pretty much equal, because I don’t particularly dislike any episodes. 

Ran GIRL/Shinichi BOY is amazing because I’ve always wanted to know how my babies met and Aoyama delivered a story that was equal parts moving, emotional, tender, sweet, and also interesting. I really could not have asked for a better version of the beginning of it all. 

The Airplane Case and the Aquarium Case are tied at third place I guess. I used to really, really fucking love the Airplane Case and it was my top 2 answer before the Aquarium Case and the case of how they met happened, and then I had to unfortunately bump it down. But if you’ve read my posts you’ll see that Shinichi nOT KNOWING HOW A BRA WORKS is one of my favorite things of all time and I’m never gonna let him live it down. And then, if the Ran GIRL/Shinichi BOY case was how everything started, the Aquarium Case was where it all really, really started. And I never knew Shinichi telling Ran they’d go to Tropical Land after what was definitely a date could hurt as much as it did. But alas here we are. 

 Shinichi Kudo’s Childhood Adventure I also really fucking enjoy and used to be higher on the list because baby Shinichi and baby Ran going off on an adventure and rekindling their friendship after a semi-fight is beautiful and the way Aoyama wrote it is amazing and in summary I live for that episode. I think it’s also almost tied with the Yuki Onna case where Shinichi and Heiji sort of meet without meeting. That was fucking epic and the trick is A+ and I always enjoy Heiji and Kazuha. 

And I think the last one I’m missing is the case at the beach with the Akais, which is last because the Akais are really the protagonists of the story and I’m okay with them and seeing Akai in a bathing suit is always a great option but all in all I wasn’t that invested in it.
