mr radguy do you think the beatles are lame or not (be honest)
My dad and I got coffee together at the combination used books/record store's café a few months ago and they've usually got some ancient vinyl spinning over the loud speakers. Well, this time they had a kinda sad 1940s or '50s mostly vocals duet album on. It wasn't bad; there was a man and a woman and they both had incredible range and control over their voices. It's not something I care for generally, though for relaxing café ambiance it wasn't grating.
Anyway, my dad was like, "This was all there was to listen to back in the day. This, jazz, and church music. Until the Beatles got big here in America."
I never really thought about it from that perspective before. Sure there were other bands (and solo artists) experimenting with what would become rock n roll, but my dad grew up in Bumfuck, Nowheresville so unless they got really big - like the Beatles - there was no way he'd hear about them.
After chewing it over for a minute I was like, "Wow, they were pretty revolutionary, huh? I can't stand them."
He laughed and said, "Yeah, me either."
#asks#To give you a real answer: They're fine. They have a few tracks I don't mind but I absolutely loathe John Lennon#Paul McCartney actually did some segments in this Queen book I have and he seems alright too#His thoughts on the tracks he talks about are honest and he just seems like a normal guy#Which like for being PAUL FUCKIN MCCARTNEY gives me a lot of respect for him. If he had a little bit of an ego I'd be like yeah fair#Shame he supports PETA though. Pobody's nerfect or whatever
