IF the term "Woke" actually came from the movie "They Live", doesn't using it in a bad light essentially prove the meaning right?
Because essentially, being "Woke" in that scenario was the right thing to do, AND it actually reflects how in-control the upper class is of the lower class, and how they survive off of consumption and reinforcing a cycle.
#not saying that 'woke' is always right in real life#but tbh I think that's just pandering and it's not the same thing as the 'woke' from They Live#Like for example#Modern Sesame Street isn't 'woke' it's blatant pandering to stay relevant#Sesame Street was always 'woke' in the sense that it wanted to break societal standards#breaking articles by making 'the first ever black puppet' is attention seeking and not a tactic to help kids learn#because Sesame Street literally had black main characters for decades-AND the puppets never had actual skin colors#THAT WAS THE POINT#also Roosevelt Franklin was black/black-coded and that's also erasure
