Gail accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 10 and surrendered her life to full time missions to Africa at the age of 12 while attending Camp Sankanac in Chester County, PA. Her father, Jim Shirey, submitted a work-based recommendation in the suggestion box at the Boeing Helicopter division and won an award that helped pay for Gail’s first year at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. While attending Bob Jones University, she met and fell in love with John Tyner who also had been called to be a missionary to Africa. She completed her degree in Elementary Education. They were married and then attended Baptist Bible College to further their education in missions and theology before raising their support to relocate to Ethiopia, Africa. Gail and John spent 40 plus years in missions work in Africa and Europe. After retiring from the mission field, Gail completed her Master’s degree in Education and continued to teach elementary grades here in several Piedmont Triad area Christian Schools. Fighting Spirit Unleashed 2019 Night 2 - 9/28/2019: Tiger Hattori’s USA Retirement; RIP “Big Titan” Richard Bognar (1/16/1970 - 9/20/2019)
Tumblr media
The second night of Fighting Spirit Unleashed just wrapped up in NYC, and you can see it on NJPWWorld in a little while if you didn’t catch it live. The show itself was delayed 90 minutes due to, allegedly, an issue and misunderstanding with obtaining an ambulance for the show. There were reports of unhappy fans but for a rescue by Mr. Tezuka of NJPW apologizing, and Rocky Romero giving a pep talk and T-Shirts to the crowd. Once the show got going, the crowd was hot for nearly every match.
- 9/28/2019, Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City, NY (NJPWWorld)
TJP [FREE] d. Ren Narita (Pinoy Stretch, 8:49)
Lance Archer [SZKG] d. Karl Fredericks (EBD Claw, 7:37)
Juice Robinson & Mikey Nicholls [CHAOS] d. Clark Connors & Alex Coughlin (Nicholls > Coughlin, Mikeybomb, 8:27)
Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa & Jado [Bullet Club] d. Rocky Romero, SHO & YOH [CHAOS] (Tonga > Romero, Killshot, 10:46)
Hiroshi Tanahashi, Ricky Morton [FREE] & Robert Gibson [FREE] d. Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] (Tanahashi > BUSHI, High Fly Flow, 10:18)
Hirooki Goto [CHAOS], Tomohiro Ishii [CHAOS] & Amazing Red [FREE] d. Jay White, Chase Owens & Gedo [Bullet Club] (Goto > Gedo, GTR, 11:59)
NEVER Openweight Championship: KENTA [Bullet Club] © d. YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] (Go2Sleep, 25:03) - KENTA succeeds his 1st defense
SANADA & EVIL [Los Ingobernables] d. Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS] & Kota Ibushi (EVIL > Ibushi, EVIL STO, 18:46)
EVIL cut a promo welcoming NYC to the Darkness World, and that New York City is Evil. The title match went way too long, and really stunk, frankly. A run-in from the retiring Tiger Hattori had to rescue it. Earlier, Hattori had a brief sending off ceremony from the USA, with his family present, flowers presented and everything, including a brief speech from Tiger. His final match in the USA was the Tanahashi/Rock’n’Roll Express v. LIJ 6-man, and that was by far the best match of the night. I take back everything bad I said about the Rock’n’Roll Express in 2019 because they were absolutely fun, including Ricky Morton hitting a tope suicida on Shingo. What a massively fun match. Overall the show was fun, the crowd was into it, and was a lot better than it had any right to be. Other than the delays, the camera work was WWE levels of gawdawful, so hey NJPW if you’re out there, maybe don’t use that crew next time.
Tumblr media
Earlier tonight it was making the rounds that the former “Big Titan” Richard Bognar had died at the far too young age of 49. Cause of death was not announced. Bognar spent many years in FMW, often alongside Mike Awesome in his Gladiator years. Infamously, Bognar was also the “Fake Razor Ramon” that the WWF trotted out in Vince’s infinite wisdom, as a stand-in for Scott Hall. If you don’t remember this, you can imagine how well it went over. (His partner as “Fake Diesel,” Glen Jacobs, turned out OK in the end...)
Following that debacle, Bognar would find himself in NJPW, back in his Big Titan identity, as part of the nWo Japan stable. A serious neck injury he suffered in February 1998 in a match against Shinya Hashimoto would leave him limited, and he never fully recovered. His final match in wrestling was in NJPW on 4/23/1999 at Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan, teaming with fellow nWo members Keiji Muto & Hiroyoshi Tenzan, defeating Tatsumi Fujnami, Manabu Nakanishi & Osamu Nishimura. Afterwards he would briely run a wrestling school in Calgary, Alberta, with Bad News Brown.
Our condolences to his family and friends at this time.
The tour wraps up at the ECW Arena tomorrow.

His sounds bring a new edge to the hip hop game. His rhymes shake up the idustry and his flow is undeniable. And his 'white boy' gemic just works in his favor. Do you think that Asher Roth has what it takes to go all the way, and could you balance school while trying to take over the rap game? Listen to his beats on http://asherrothmusic.com/
Artist Biography by Jason Birchmeier
Tumblr media Tumblr media
American rapper Asher Roth ascended from the Pennsylvania suburbs into the world of hip-hop in the late 2000s with a thoughtful flow influenced by Jay-Z and Eminem. Utilizing social media to share his music while he was still a student, he broke into the mainstream with his commercial debut single, 2009's 'I Love College.' That novelty hit was eventually certified double-platinum and helped push his first album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, to number five on the U.S. charts. Favoring mixtapes and EP releases, he didn't release his sophomore effort, RetroHash, until 2014. A third set, Flowers on the Weekend, landed in 2020.
Born in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, a small suburban community located northeast of Philadelphia, he began rapping as a teenager, penning rhymes about experiences that were more familiar to him and his upbringing. Later, he developed a fan base while attending West Chester University, posting his music on social media. Those early releases included the 2005 EP Just Listen and the 2006 mixtape album Believe the Hype. During his sophomore year, he reached out to Scooter Braun, who quickly became his manager. Braun, along with Steve Rifkind of SRC Records, signed him to a major-label recording contract with Universal Music Group. Meanwhile, Roth continued to build his underground audience with The Greenhouse Effect Mixtape. Hosted by Don Cannon and DJ Drama of the renowned Gangsta Grillz mixtape series, The Greenhouse Effect Mixtape was released online as a free download.
In 2009 he released his commercial debut single, 'I Love College,' a party rap novelty hit that went all the way to number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the heels of this mainstream breakthrough hit and the follow-up single, 'Lark on My Go Kart,' Roth released his full-length solo album debut, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. Produced primarily by Oren Yoel, the gold-certified Asleep in the Bread Aisle drew comparisons between Roth and Eminem (a matter addressed by the rapper himself on the album track 'As I Em') and quickly rose into the U.S. Top 5. In the years that followed, Roth busied himself with a number of mixtape and EP releases, including 2010's Seared Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry and a 2013 sequel to The Greenhouse Effect. He delivered his sophomore LP RetroHash in 2014. Though it didn't reach the same heights as his debut, the set peaked in the Top 50 and featured guests ZZ Ward, Curren$y, Vic Mensa, and more.
Asher Roth Mixtape
Another significant gap followed, filled with just one EP, the 2016 collaboration with Nottz Raw and Travis Barker, Rawther. Roth returned in 2020 with his third official studio effort, Flowers on the Weekend. Released on his own Retrohash label, Flowers featured 'Way More Fun' with Lil Yachty.

Don’t Annoy the Kangaroo - Prologue
Assume that working in the film production industry can be considered a real career. Upon reflection, some of the past 34 years feels more surreal than real. But, in the interest of writing about those 34 years, let me state that everything you will read in the chapters to follow actually occurred . . . more or less. Mostly more.
Let me pay homage to the five years prior to my first job as a production assistant in 1984. Why? Because they’re very important to the formation of the armor-plated skin I grew; the fabulous can-do attitude I cultivated; and the brilliant wit which will be on full display.
I graduated from Ursinus College in 1979 with a B.A. in English Literature. A B.A. in English Literature in 1979 will garner you as many job offers as a B.A. in English Literature did in 1969, or 1989, or 1959, or 1999, etc.
Zero. Unless, of course, you want to continue onto graduate school, which entails sending more money to an academic institution to pay the various squash-playing, but non-teaching full-time tenured professors to play squash and not teach. Oh, and chase coeds, if that term makes sense to anyone reading this.
****
Some time in 1979 after my graduation money ran out, I moved to New York City from the Philadelphia area to pursue a career as a chorus boy in Broadway musicals. Because that made as much sense as anything.
The next five years were frittered away dancing in music videos, begging for summer stock jobs, toiling for a very unemployed dance company, and giving away my time and energy working in a handful of shows that opened so far off Broadway they might as well have been staged in my hometown of Stratford, New Jersey. At least this would have accommodated my parents’ desire to see me perform, but may have further depressed them over the money they had sent to the aforementioned squash-playing, non-teaching professors.
Before anyone gets carried away with what appears to be a more than modest amount of success, let me tell you a reworked musician joke:
Three men arrive at the proverbial Pearly Gates. St. Peter is on duty and calls them forward one at a time. The first gentleman stands before the Guardian of Heaven.
St. Peter: “Tell me sir. What was the most money you ever made while on Earth?
Man #1: “I made five million dollars in my best year.”
St. Peter: “Goodness. God’s benevolence and riches upon you. What service did you perform to earn so much money?”
Man #1: “I was an attorney.”
St. Peter pulls a lever and the attorney drops down to Hell. He motions for the next man, who reluctantly steps forward.
St. Peter: “Tell me sir. What was the most money you ever made while on Earth?
Man #2 (Stammering): “I made $750,000 dollars in my best year.”
St. Peter: “Goodness. God’s benevolence and riches upon you. What service did you perform to earn so much money?”
Man #2: “I was a heart surgeon.”
St. Peter: “Thank you for saving and extending so many lives. You may pass through the Gates of Heaven.”
Man #2 wipes his brow and passes into Heaven. St. Peter signals for the final candidate to come forward.
St. Peter: “Tell me sir. What was the most money you ever made while on Earth?
Man #1: “I made $17,868.43 in my best year.”
St. Peter: “Is that right? Was that for a chorus role, or did you dance in a corps de ballet?”
As my lovely wife of more-years-than-I-want-to-count would say, “My husband was a quadruple threat, actor/singer/dancer/waiter.”
****
None of the above has yet led to any understanding of how I ended up working in an industry, film production that eludes logical description. How did I find myself, in August of 1984, standing on the boardwalk in Atlantic City with a clipboard in my left hand, and directing heat-stroked tourists out of the way of a cameraman running after a Michael Jackson look-alike, with my right hand?
Women.
The first, a choreographer named Suzy Miller, who hired me to dance in five or six music videos between 1982 and 1983, snuck me into KYW-TV in Philadelphia to intern as her production assistant for Evening Magazine in the Fall of 1984.
The second, and most important woman in my life, my wife, Lee, proclaimed sometime prior to my internship that if we were going to have anything more than a relationship based on late night sex, I would have to forego the dream existence of actor/singer/dancer/waiter.
Yes, every guy reading this is now flipping a coin.
And I did flip a coin as well, but in the interest of full disclosure, it didn’t matter if it came up, ahem, head or tail, I was moving to the other side of the camera in a professional sense. I transitioned from the glamour filled existence of public humiliation at the hands of sadistic choreographers, fascist audition running dance captains, and middle-aged theater directors trying to score with anyone in the chorus, male or female, to the glamour filled existence of cleaning up the trash left by everyone else on the sound stage, and to three square meals a day consisting of lox and bagels in the morning with cold coffee; maybe half a serving of wilted salad and unpurposefully cold pasta and coffee two hours after everyone else had eaten lunch; and a slice of pizza with a side of M&Ms for dinner accompanied by the usual dressing down by the line producer of how the PAs turned out to be a lazy bunch of gits.
To tie this up with a neat little bow, which, ironically, one particularly OCD- suffering line producer insisted be put on all the take out containers cadged by the crew and agency at the end of her jobs, I finally left the world of dance in the Summer of 1984. I exited a world populated by insecure narcissists unsure of not only their next meal, but also their talent. I exchanged it for a world of insecure narcissists whose next meal consisted of haute cuisine on shoot days, but found themselves incapable of manufacturing more than a PB&J on their down days. They were also unsure of their talent.
The forthcoming blog series (and book) is an homage to every creative person who ever woke up in a cocaine or alcohol induced hangover, or both, at 3am and found themselves watching reruns of The Andy Griffith Show. This latest batch of blurry images from Mayberry generated, without fail, the right brained folks’ next brilliant idea which they were only too happy to task me with on the following day, after I’d scoured the town for mild Tabasco, Meyer lemon juice, Kosher Sea Salt, and Light Golden Rum for their imagined hangover cure.
Whiny God King Director: “George.” They would slur, while imbibing their miracle concoction. “Find out who is representing Ronnie Howard.”
Me: “Sure. Anything I should tell them?”
After another slug.
Whiny God King Director: “Just find out who the rep is, you lazy git. Did I ask you to do anything else?”
Me: “Not yet?”
Whiny God King Director: “What was that?”
Me: “You bet!”
****
Therefore I raise a metaphorical glass of Chateau D'yquem in honor of all creative types. The same ones who purloined expensive libations such as Chateau D'yquem by the use of  phony petty cash receipts. The most overpaid people in production were always the ones too cheap to buy anything out of their own money.
Here’s to every 26 year old copy writer whose idea of a clever sentence started with the word, “Yo.” To every art director who wanted to scout churches for a 1-800 Flowers ad, but didn’t want to see anything “too religious.” To every DP that would order every lens known to man, and then use one zoom for six days. To every writer of every script I ever produced, I have but one question, “Did you find any of the 67 HARD copies I gave you?” To all the production designers on the planet who have actually came in under budget, thanks Bob! To all the wardrobe and make-up people who managed not to have sex with the director, thanks Bob!
And to every Whiny God King Director who enriched my life with requests such as “Before you set up again for the car crash and explosions, could you find out why my girlfriend’s gluten free tapioca pudding is so runny?” And “On our way to set, the driver passed by a New Orleans style funeral procession, could you find out what they might be doing for the next couple of hours?”
Me: “I could hazard a guess, if that would help?”
Whiny God King Director: “What? Where’s craft service setting up breakfast? I love their blintzes.”
NEXT WEEK: THE FIRST OF MANY LAUGH RIOTS. My internship at KYW complete, I returned to NYC and the first of many glamorous production jobs.

Mary Senese
Tumblr media
Mary Senese passed away peacefully at her home in Kingston, PA on Sunday, July 9, 2023, after a long illness. She was 85 years old.
Mary was born to the late Marion Collins and Arthur Schultz in Noxen, PA in 1937. Her fiery red hair earned her the affectionate nickname “Red” among her siblings Joan, Arthur, Daniel, Ellen, and John. It was a fitting emblem for her exuberant personality and her zest for life.
Mary began her working life as a teen behind the counter at Percy Brown’s, an iconic 1950’s Wilkes-Barre market and cafeteria. After graduating from St. Leo’s High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College, she met the love of her life, Fred Senese, a U. S. Navy damage controlman on the crew of the U. S. S. Wisconsin. They were married at St. Leo’s Church in Ashley, PA in January 1958.
They had a long and remarkably happy marriage, raising seven children, managing Fred’s carpentry business, and cheerfully weathering many obstacles together over the next 33 years.
After Fred’s untimely death in 1991, Mary earned an associate degree in business data pocessing technology from Luzerne County Community College and re-entered the workforce. She worked at Offset Paperback Manufacturing for many years and then joined the IT department of Western and Southern Life Insurance. She retired in 2008 and lived quietly for the rest of her life in Kingston, PA.
Mary will be profoundly missed by her surviving children: Fred Senese, of Frostburg, MD; Jeffrey Senese and his wife Alicia, of Philadelphia, PA; Glenn Senese and his wife Debbie, of Pittston, PA; Maryellen Takacs of Kingston, PA; Liza Roper and her husband Ben, of Kingston, PA; and Leah Warenda and her husband Frank of West Wyoming, PA.  She deeply missed her son Christopher, who preceded her in death in 1989.
Mary loved her grandchildren. She often invited them to sleepovers at her house, where she’d make funnel cakes and other treats with them. Her absence will be keenly felt by her surviving grandchildren, Ryan Senese, Brandon Senese, Shawn Senese, Chris Takacs, Dana Takacs, Michael Senese, Mia Senese, Kai Senese, Keiran Senese, Lauren Senese, Daniel Senese, Erin Senese, Rachel Senese, Frankie Warenda, Charlie Warenda and Joey Warenda.
Mary is survived by her dear sister Joan Gallagher, and her husband Martin, and their children Molly, Megan, Monica, and Martin Jr. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dalia, and her sons Lenny and Albert, and the children of her late brother Daniel: Marilyn, Laura, Joanne, Daniel Joe, and Paul.. She was preceded in death by her sister Ellen and her brother Arthur.
Mary’s final services will begin with a viewing on Friday July 14 at 4 PM to 7 PM at Hugh B. Hughes Funeral Home in Forty Fort, PA. Formal services at the funeral home will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 15.
Mary’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10:15 AM on July 15 at St. Ignatius Church in Kingston, PA, the church she attended for the last 40 years. The mass will be followed by a procession to the gravesite at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give.
Mary never did anything that she didn’t want to do. Her honesty and her deeply rooted sense of right and wrong were legendary. If she had a problem with you, she would let you know about it. In the twilight of her life, when grieving the passing of friends and family, Mary would sometimes say, “Well. They had a life.”  She said this quietly and matter-of-factly, not as a dismissal but as an admiration of a life well-lived, a life beloved.
Mary had a life. And Mary was beloved.

This year The Philadelphia Flower show is doing something new. They are holding a photo contest. I heard about this contest last summer through my nephew who works for the Flower Show. Knowing how much I love to shoot photographs of my flowers, Andrew thought I would be interested in entering.
After he sent me the link to the contest and I entered six of my photographs in three of the six categories.  Knowing that the judging and notification of finalists was around the same time I would be on a Panama Canal cruise with a friend of mine, I decided to get prints made of all the photos I entered. Although there was no fee to enter, it was up to finalists to mount each selected photograph on black foam core, trim it to size and then mail it to the contest coordinator by Feb. 25th. I though I had a slim chance of having any of my photos selected but, just in case, I would be prepared if I was pleasantly surprised.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
When I returned home to PA on Feb 4th, I spent a couple of days deleting emails. While at this task one afternoon I received a text from Andrew
“Congratulations! You made the cut for category 195-Avant-Garde at the Flower show.”
I did? Wow!
Turns out I had accidentally deleted the notification emails. I went back and scoured through my trash bin and found all 3. Two were rejections but sure enough, there was one –
“Hello Jennifer Congratulations!”
This is where Gremlins took over what should have been a relativity easy process and turned it into an absolute fiasco.  I’m talking about the Gremlin that ate after midnight, and got wet. Not the cute fuzzy Gremlins.
I quickly opened the email and I was crestfallen. Wouldn’t you know the one photo that was accepted was also the only print  that looked terrible. Either I provided Shutterfly with a crappy file or they printed it badly. In any case, I had to have this photo reprinted and rushed to me so I could get it mailed out by the deadline stated in the email of February 15th! This didn’t leave me much time.
For 12 years or so I was a certified picture framer. I even had my own shop at one point. So I have a shops-worth of framing supplies and equipment in my basement. While I waited for the rush delivery of my accepted photograph, I rooted around in my boxes of mat boards hoping to find a piece of black foam core. Wouldn’t you know  I have several sheets of white foam core and hundreds of mat boards but no black foam core.  Luckily, my local Walmart had some black foam core and spray adhesive.
I was nervous unwrapping the photograph when it arrived, fearful that it would look dull and out of focus like the first copy. If that were the case I wouldn’t be able to send it. I would have to withdraw. But no, it looked great! I got it flattened out and ready to mount.
While looking for the foam core in my studio, I too was searching for my heavy metal utility knife. It was one that had belonged to my dad and I had used it for years. I couldn’t find it anywhere. But my husband & I keep a yellow plastic one in the kitchen that we use for opening packages.  I believe the blade in this knife had never been changed. It wouldn’t cut butter let alone trim this photograph so I replaced the blade.
And, I promptly poked my finger.Blood was everywhere!
I wrapped my finger in a paper towel while I trimmed the mounted photo. Luckily no blood got on my picture, but the yellow cover of the utility knife looked like it had been lifted from a crime scene!
Off to the post office I went, finger now wrapped in a band-aid. As I drove into the parking lot, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was packed with cars. I swear it looked like 3 days before Christmas and everyone in town had forgotten to mail their packages! Once inside the tiny room, I found a line of about 10 people. I busied myself finding an envelope big enough for the photo and I finished taping the cardboard around my photograph. After about twenty minutes, it was my turn.
“This has to arrive by Friday 15th. ”
“Not a problem”.
I included a self-addressed stamped envelope, sealed up the whole package and finally breathed a sigh of relief when my photo was among the huge stack of mail collecting behind the counter.
Friday night I’m watching TV and decide to check my email. I see an email from the contest coordinator:
Jennifer,  I received your beautiful photograph today and unfortunately two corners are badly bent! Can you please reprint, matte and send to me again ASAP! Unfortunately I can not pass this for the show. Your deadline to have to me is no later than Feb 22! If you can not make this happen I will need to know ASAP so I can let the alternate know.
Thank you and I’m so sorry. Next time please use a much thicker, cardboard material to support the photo in shipping.
Sally
Oh no! This is Friday the 15th. I am supposed to leave for Florida on Wednesday the 20th. Panic sets in. Can I get a new photo printed, shipped to me, mounted and mailed to her in a week? Shutterfly was giving me a guaranteed delver date of Feb. 20th. It could work but I would have to have the supplies on hand when I arrived in the evening and rush the picture to the post office the next day mailing it next-day-air. I could do it but I would need help.
I called my husband and asked him, if needed, could he could go to the Walmart near us in Florida and get a piece of black foam core. ”
Yeah, no problem. Just let me know. I can go tomorrow.”
I also sent a text to my sister & brother-in-law asking if there was any place around here that could print the photo while I wait? No sense having to pay for rushed delivery if I can take care of this locally.
Turns out our local FedEx does do printing! They do what’s called-Personal Prints up to 8×10 and they also do Poster Sized prints starting at 16×20.
Seriously?
I bet you can’t guess what size my photo needed to be.
Right, 11×14. And, they don’t offer 11×14.
Back to the Shutterfly rushed delivery option.
My sister in law suggested I have the print sent to her, she would mount it and get it mailed for me. I thought about it for a minute and decided it’s too stressful a task for someone who has never spray-mounted before. Also, that utility blade does like to draw blood. I declined that offer and, afraid I was going to lose the guaranteed delivery from Shutterfly of Feb.20,  I quickly placed a super-rush delivery with Shutterfly and I decided to go with my original plan of having the print sent to Florida. I could do the work when I arrived.
Gremlins don’t like getting wet and my plan was beginning to feel like a wash out.
Monday the 18th was Presidents Day & there is no mail. Does Shutterfly use regular USPS, UPS or FedEx to deliver? couldn’t remember. Did their guaranteed delivery take this holiday into account?
A giant snow storm is forecast for Wednesday. Of course it is. It always snows when I go to Florida in the winter. it doesn’t matter what day I decide to fly down, it’s going to snow and I’m going to have to reschedule my flight.
I kept a close eye on the tracking of my Shutterfly order and the weather forecast. Both were dismal. Shutterfly’s guaranteed delivery of Feb. 20th was changed to Feb. 20-21st.
No, no, no. This is no good. There is no way I can get my mounted picture delivered to the contest coordinator by the 22nd if I don’t receive it by the 20th.
The snow storm forecast went from bad –
‘Snow and ice from Tuesday 19th through 20th’
to, hey wait this might work
‘Snow starting Wednesday night through Thursday’
to I’m doomed and probably won’t be leaving Wednesday after all-
‘Snow staring early Wednesday 6-8 inches with ice in the afternoon’
Oh great. Plan B. Marcus isn’t going to like plan B.
Turns out Shutterfly uses UPS and delivered my photo on Monday 18th. Really? I wish I had known they were going to be able to deliver it early. I could have mounted it and and mailed it out in plenty of time. No need to worry about snow or Plan B.
Plan B, as it turns out didn’t work out as expected.
On Valentines day Marcus calls me from Walmart to tell me they only have white foam core.
“Really, oh ……! OK, OK, you will have to find a Michael’s or a frame shop and get a piece from there. ”
I texted him the addresses of Michael’s stores near us in Florida. Turns out there are three pretty close by our apartment. He got two pieces ‘Just in case” also was able to get new utility knife and some sturdy cardboard. Yay!
When I saw that the photo would be delivered on Monday the 18th I suggested he go ahead and mount it and get it in the mail.
“I may not make it down in time because of the snow.”
Always the optimist, “Na, you’ll be okay, I’ll wait.”
Today Feb. the 19th, I called Marcus telling him it’s looking more and more like i’m not going anywhere on Wednesday. There is already a ‘No fee for rescheduling canceled flights’ notice on Jet Blue’s website and no snow is falling…yet.  Anyway, I walked him through how to spray mount a photograph and trim it. I suggested he do a practice magazine cover or something to get the feel for it and call me back. He agreed to give it a go.
“I can’t get the page to stick.”
That’s weird.
“You may not have used enough spray stuff. Try again while I have you on the phone.” he put me on speaker phone.
I hear the spray can over the phone and then he says “It stuck that time. I think I used too much, there is a sticky puddle outside the photo.”
“Try another page and don’t hold the can so close. 3-4 inches away should be fine.”
This worked fine.
“My fingers are full of glue.”
“You can get that off with alcohol or acetone.”
“Okay that worked but I’m afraid I’m going to get fingerprints all over your photograph.”
“You’ll be fine. You just washed your hands in alcohol. There’s no oil left to leave prints.”
Now I suggested he try trimming the foam core to get the feel of it.
“I don’t want to cut these out because I’ll get glue all over the ruler. then when I trim the photo, it will get glue all over it.”
I suggested he do a practice cut on the extra piece of foam core that doesn’t have any glue on it yet. I could hear him through the phone grunting and groaning as he tried. It didn’t sound like it was going well at all.
“Marcus, come here. Stop. You’re too nervous and getting too worked up. Something will go wrong because you are too worried about messing it up. Take the photograph and the black foam core back to Michael’s and ask them to dry mount it for you while you wait.”
“They can do this?”
“Yes. they do it all the time.”
“What if they mess it up? You only ordered one copy. What happens if they mess it up?”
“How about we don’t create another problem before we have to? If that happens, then I email the coordinator telling her Michael’s ruined the photo & I will not be able to send my photo. I’ll be screwed. but, this isn’t going to happen. Relax.”
I’m happy to report that Michael’s broke the Gremlin’s spell over this endeavor.  My photo is mounted, trimmed and wrapped in heavy cardboard. The gal even adhered the required information on the back of the photograph. It’s ready to go into the mail and will arrive by Friday.
This free submission contest has cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 so far. I wonder how much rushed delivery costs?
I’m not saying I’d like to go through all of this stress again. This hasn’t been fun. But somehow it’s worth all of this to have my photograph among the other finalists in the Philadelphia Flower Show! Maybe it will win a ribbon!
If you go, send me a photograph of the display. Unfortunately, after all of this, I won’t be able to make the show this year. When I finally do get out of town after the snow, I will be testing out my new camera on a much anticipated Galapagos Island trip!

Every walking robot should wear sneakers.
Cassie Blue is operating with our normal flat-ground feedback controller. We made no changes to accommodate the sand. We were quite surprised that she could walk barefoot in such soft sand! Our best guess is that this ability is a fortunate outcome of the way we control her “feet”. When a leg is in the air, we control the corresponding foot to be level with the ground. When a leg is in contact with the ground, we set the “ankle” torque to zero. In other words, we are treating the robot as being underactuated.

Here’s a new way of 3D printing objects using a robotic manipulator.
This paper presents a new method to fabricate 3D models on a robotic printing system equipped with multi-axis motion. Materials are accumulated inside the volume along curved tool-paths so that the need of supporting structures can be tremendously reduced – if not completely abandoned – on all models. Our strategy to tackle the challenge of tool-path planning for multi-axis 3D printing is to perform two successive decompositions, first volume-to-surfaces and then surfaces-to-curves. The volume-to-surfaces decomposition is achieved by optimizing for a scalar field within the volume that represents the fabrication sequence. The field is constrained such that its iso-values represent curved layers that are supported from below, and present a convex surface affording for collision-free navigation of the printer head. After extracting all curved layers, the surfaces-to-curves decomposition covers them with tool-paths while taking into account constraints from the robotic deposition system. Our method successfully generates tool-paths for 3D printing models with large overhangs and high-genus topology. We fabricated several challenging cases on our robotic platform to verify and demonstrate its capabilities.
[ Computational Design and Fabrication Lab TU Delft ]
We are getting closer to achieve robotic pollination! This is the first integrated test of BrambleBee in the greenhouse. Navigation, mapping, robot control, computer vision, and manipulation are all working together now. The hardware is also working great and check out our newly built structure in the greenhouse and nice blackberry plants! Once we worked out a reliable flower pose estimation solution and refined our end-effector design, pollination with real flowers (instead of QR flowers) will probably happen in Fall. Stay tuned!

Cheap Flower Delivery - Save Money and Give a Gift
Sending flowers is a great way to get someone's attention or say "I'm sorry", or just to let someone know that it's well thought out. The delivery of cheap flowers can save you some money and become a hero!
The flowers can be really expensive. Send flowers should not break the shore. There are many places to find flowers at a discounted price that includes shipping costs. One of the best places to find flowers at a reduced price is a place online. There are entire websites dedicated to the sale of flowers, usually they have agreements with local florists to deliver the flowers that are ordered through a website. The website usually takes a small percentage of the sale to make arrangements with the local florist. There are some wholesale flower websites that ship delivery from their day-to-day warehouse or from USPS, these distributors are usually the least expensive option. The only problem with the option of a night or USPS is that flowers can be damaged during shipping and end up looking like really cheap flowers. Generally, there will be an additional charge for delivery during the night.
The local florist can offer free delivery; Usually, flowers are priced a little higher at the local florist because they probably do a lot less business than a larger wholesaler or an online place that receives hundreds of orders each day.
How cheap is cheap?
Cheap is relative, it's going to be as cheap as stopping at a discount store and buying a bunch of margaritas for ten dollars and then giving it up, probably not, but it can still be very affordable. Finding a decent display of flowers to include delivery can be as low as twenty dollars.
Some considerations
When you order flowers online, you can not really see the flowers you are sorting in an image, so you never really know what you are going to get. Going to the local florist can be expensive and getting the free delivery may not offset the additional costs associated with using a smaller distributor, but at least you can see the quality of the flowers that will be delivered.
Cheap flower delivery can be as low as free, or it can be as high as USPS shipping and handling fees. Determining what is cheap depends entirely on the consumer who buys the flowers.
