October 1 Fears Grip Ministers, as Tinubu set to Appoint Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Senator Shehu Sani. Ahead of Nigeria's 64th Independence Day celebration, there is growing apprehension within the Federal Executive Council (FEC) over the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu. Sources within the presidency have indicated that some ministers could lose their positions due to poor performance or actions that have been deemed unsatisfactory, including irregularities in recent board appointments. According to a source at the Presidential Villa, some ministers may face removal due to these infractions, with speculations suggesting that President Tinubu may announce the reshuffle around Independence Day on October 1. Read Also: NPFL: Nasarawa United End Barren Streak, Sunshine Stuns Akwa United The reshuffle could result in the dismissal of as many as eight ministers, according to close insiders, although the exact number remains uncertain. In addition to these potential dismissals, there are strong indications that President Tinubu may bring opposition politicians into his cabinet, with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) being considered for a ministerial appointment. Kwankwaso’s political influence, particularly his Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State, is seen as a key asset. However, concerns have been raised by those within the ruling party who fear that Kwankwaso could leverage the appointment to mount a presidential bid in 2027. I Wrote Hit Songs For Wizkid – Skales Another opposition figure who may join the cabinet is Senator Shehu Sani, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who left the party in 2018 to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Sani’s potential inclusion in the government reflects Tinubu's desire to bring in "fresh hands" and extend his reach across party lines. While Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Tinubu has been contemplating a cabinet reshuffle, he did not specify when it might take place or which ministers would be affected. Nonetheless, reports have speculated that as many as eleven ministers could be at risk, with various political actors both inside and outside the government actively lobbying for positions in the restructured cabinet. With Nigeria's Independence Day approaching, the reshuffle could serve as a significant step in President Tinubu's efforts to realign his administration and bring in new faces to tackle the country's pressing challenges. However, as the president plays his cards close to his chest, uncertainty looms for those currently holding office. Tinubu Appoints 9 Prominent Nigerians to NWDC

Atiku and Sani challenge legislators and urge them to reduce allowances
Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central, claimed that the House of Representatives' office operating expenses, not their pay, are the "real devil." Sani said this while praising the House of Representatives for reducing members' pay. Sani posted on the X Platform saying “The Reps slashed their salaries. That is a good symbolic gesture.I commend them. But the real Devil is the Office running cost and not the Salary.” In a comparable manner, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, compared the legislators' "sacrifice" to a drop in the ocean. According to Atiku, the legislators' allowances, not their pay, are the devils' domain. He made a post on X: “The sacrifice of members of the House of Representatives is commendable. But it is a drop in the ocean. The demons are in the allowances and not the salaries of lawmakers and government officials in general. “Whatever happened to the much-trumpeted implementation of the Oronsaye Report? Recently, the ballooning of MDAs with the attendant cost implications has been observed. “There’s too much waste and prioritisation of non-essential expenditures. What is desirable is an across the board cut in expenses. We can no longer afford to borrow money to fund continued irresponsibility in government.” Read the full article

Why I won’t support state police — Ex-lawmaker Shehu Sani
A former lawmaker and social critic, Senator Shehu Sani, has explained why he will not support the proposed creation of state police across the country. Sani said that having state police may lead to anarchy. State police, he noted, could be used by governors for election rigging, adding that there would also be recruitment of the state’s ruling party thugs into the force. The former senator, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th assembly, stated this in a post shared on his verified X handle on Monday. This is coming in the wake of the ongoing discussion between the Federal Government and the 36 state governors concerning the possibility of establishing state police. Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, explained that the process is still in its infancy and would only take shape after more deliberations between stakeholders. He said, “There is also a discussion around the issue of state police. The Federal Government and the state governments are mulling the possibility of setting up state police. “Of course, this is still going to be further discussed. A lot of work has to be done in that direction. But if our government and the state governments agree to the necessity of having state police, this is a significant shift. However, reacting to the development, Sani wrote, “The State Police will be used by the Governors to persecute the opposition, to harass ‘non-indigenes. “To rig elections and to counter the federal police in case of conflict of interest between the Federal Government and the state. “Most of the state ruling party thugs will be recruited into the state police,” he added. The debate for the creation of state police in Nigeria primarily stems from the centralised nature of the Nigerian Police Force, which is perceived by many as inadequate for addressing the unique security challenges across the country’s diverse regions. Proponents argue that the outfit would bring law enforcement closer to the communities they serve, enhance the effectiveness of policing, and allow for more localised control over security matters. By • Olalekan Fagbade Reactions as Appeal Court Sacks three opposition Governors in four days Criticisms have trailed the sacking of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State by the Court of Appeal, triggering reactions that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was at work to run one-party system in Nigeria. The sacking of Mutfwang was the third experience of the opposition in four days. Last week, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), raised the alarm that there was a plot to overturn the will of the people as expressed during the general elections. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Damagum alleged that there was a design by the APC to “cripple democracy, overthrow the democratic rights of Nigerians, suppress the Rule of Law and downgrade our nation to a fiefdom run by the whims of a cabal.” Mutfwang of the PDP had 525,299 votes while his APC challenger, Nentawe Goshwe, polled 481,370 votes in the governorship election in March. Goshwe challenged the victory at the tribunal saying that Mutfwang did not comply with the Electoral Act as he was not validly nominated and sponsored by his party. The panel dismissed the petition for lacking merit, but Goshwe headed to the appellate court. In its judgment on Sunday, the appeal court headed by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu sacked Mutfwang for not being validly sponsored by the PDP for election. On Thursday, the appeal court sacked Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State of PDP, declaring that the governorship election in March was inconclusive. The following day, the same court nullified the election of the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). These recent court rulings leading to the sacking of opposition governors have gotten Nigerians talking as they pointed to the APC as the mastermind. Here are some of the reactions on Twitter as collated by Daily Trust: Shehu Sani, a former senator, wrote: “The Court of Appeal Judgement against the electoral victory of the Plateau State Governor is unfortunate, unacceptable and condemnable. A broad daylight heist of the will of the people. The bench is becoming the coffin of democracy.” @Rabsy_b: “APC can take over all the 36 states if they want ” @authentic_malam: “It’s natural to question court rulings. I wonder why all our court verdicts seem to favor the APC, the ruling party, against the opposition. This trend could potentially harm the country’s political process. ” @MikelegofGod wrote, “APC at work oo, they wanna turn Nigeria into a one-party system.” ÄPC has turned Nigeria into something different o,” @Okey_Ego_Crypto wrote. “APC-owned court sacks Plateau governor,” @Mary_dozie reacted. “They are gradually sinking this country,” @ErcharuP lamented. In his own reaction, @JayPeeGeneral said, “No justice in the courtrooms system anymore! Our judges have replaced susbstantail justice with technicalities. “Court sits on Sundays,” @CheezyCharles queried. “Miscarriage of justice, there is no law left in Nigeria anymore,” @EnergizeBen said. @timibreaker_35 said, “APC came to finish Nigeria.” @TheoAbuAgada: “APC should actually take it easy. It’s becoming annoying at this point.” @Its_ereko: “Dem go still remove Governors for different states put APC. Mad money dey fly for Nigerian judges account this period. But Nigerians no go wake up 💔 ” @YundNedu∅1: “APC is just clearing everywhere with the help of our judiciary. Any small thing “go to court ” because they already have the judiciary on their payroll….” @leroikris: “It is now glaring that Nigeria is an APC captured state.” @Pauly257∅: “They have decided to snatch Plateau and allocate it to themselves. APC Department in charge of political allocation and distribution.” @iam_samedohi: “America wonder. Nigeria is fast becoming a one-party country 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️”

State police recipe for anarchy – Shehu Sani
A former lawmaker and social critic, Senator Shehu Sani, on Monday, said the idea of allowing the establishment of state police in the country could be a recipe for anarchy. According to Sani, the idea that state police would solve all the security problems in the country is a mirage. He made his opinion on the matter known in a post on his X handle. DAILY POST reported that the Federal Government had recently hinted about the likelihood of embracing state police. The development followed an emergency meeting between President Bola Tinubu and state governors at the Aso Rock Villa. The meeting was sequel to the recent hike in food prices, economic hardship, and pockets of insecurity recorded nationwide. However, the former lawmaker expressed worry that state police will be an armed wing of the ruling party of each state. He wrote: “The idea that State Police will solve all the security problems in the Country is a mirage. What magic can the state police perform that the military, police and civil defence couldn’t? The State police will simply be an armed wing of the ruling party of each state. Its a recipe for anarchy.” Read the full article
