just went to the ma oathbound tour and i’m shaking omg i had so much fun. tracy is so funny. here’s the highlights!

- “he’s baby boy” - tracy, about sel

- sel is the version of tracy that has no filter. he just says things.

- faye and natasia would have been bonded in another universe. there hasn’t been a moment for this realization yet.

- sel is ambidextrous. this is part of why he’s kingsmage.

- there’s nothing about an adaptation she can currently speak on, but if anything does happen she’ll be very careful about doing it as right as she can

- she describes the trio as a love entanglement. she said nothing about poly.

- “is tor going to get her ass beat?” she hesitated to answer but she’s going to have a “big moment to satisfy bloodlust”.

- the themes of power were always the basis of the magic system

- she says contemporary fantasy is how we change the world

Something, something... Bree is the Scion of Arthur and Nick is the Scion of Lancelot. Bree is a king and Nick is her knight, call and response. Bree is a king and Sel is a prince, son of her enemy. Bree is the daughter of Faye and Sel is the son of Natasia, two pairs of kingsmage and king that never happened. Sel wields the crown of the Shadow King and Nick has a shard embedded in his chest. Sel is the kingsmage to a false king and Nick is the king-that-wasn't. The three are tied together irrevocably, they were always meant to end up here.

I headcannon Selwyn is actually great with kids. Especially merlin ones. Like yeah they're all scared of him but he never actually does anything and eventually they see him for like...the big cat he is. He lets them color in his tattoos, do amazing (horrible) things to his hair and makeup. He's gotten in trouble multiple times for going too soft on them during training, even if he is strict enough on a human level. They all think he's super cool and scary when instructors use Selwyn as an example for training, but Selwyn can't actually bring himself to be mean to the kids themselves. He once was told to help this merlin kid, and the kid burst into tears when Selwyn approached. Selwyn just awkwardly let them cry and patted them on the back and waited for them to calm down. The other older merlins watch in awe and confusion as Selwyn, the rude, arrogant, obnoxious asshole successfully gentle parents a kid into learning. One time he was there during an argument between a merlin and human kid and he somehow got them to admit their wrongdoings while also apolozing. He sees himself in every merlin kid, and he sees Nick in every human one. He can't possibly be mean to them. It's very out of character for everyone except Nick, William and later Bree, who know why Selwyn is the way he is. Selwyn learned to be mean out of self defense, biting first means his enemy is wounded out the gate. But kids are never enemies. They are used and molded and taught to be enemies, but at the stage they're at, Selwyn doesn't have it in him to be a threat. He knows how fast kids must grow up in the order. He knows he doesn't not have to beat the lessons into him as other inductors do.

With the knowledge that Sel has/had romantic feelings for both Bree and Nick, I think the boy just likes the idea of being bossed around.

Don't talk to me I'm thinking about Selwyn Kane's loneliness. About how he must've grown up thinking he was incapable of being loved. About how the Order called him the traitor, about how demons label him a blood traitor. He doesn't fit in the Order, nor does he fit outside it. Not human enough but not demon enough either. He doesn't quite fit with the rest of the Merlins, and he definitely doesn't fit in the human or demon box. He has lived his life as something "other". Lonely among the living and dead.
