AAAAND WE’RE BACK BABY! my chosen prompt for this week was “ goodbyes ” so naturally some prewar stuff simply had to be tackled — here is Lorraine and her sister Vera :)

“That’s all you’re taking?” Vera’s voice cuts through the silence, gesturing to the bag slung over Lorraine’s shoulder, and then looking her up and down. Lorraine shrugs, gaze fixed forward as her sister takes her in. Or take her apart, she’s still not sure how Vera feels about all this and the older girl has been fairly tight-lipped in her opinions on the matter.

“Don’t think I need much else.”

“A going-out dress?”

“That’s what the uniform’s for,” Lorraine supplies. “And I don’t think I’ll be going out much anyway.” She wants to point out that she’s never cared much for going out and dancing ever. Vera says nothing for a long moment. Still staring, lips still pressed into that line. She looks like their mother like this, not a fair out of place, skirt swishing and heels clicking against the sidewalk. Her white blouse makes her hair look more yellow, the deep green of her skirt popping out against the concrete and dark buildings. Vera squints at her, and Lorraine huffs. “What is it?”

“Just think you could try a little more, is all.”

“Try with what?” Vera huffs, snapping her gaze straight ahead.

“Making this normal, Lorraine,” she declares. “Humoring me a little. You don’t even sound like you want to go and you’re wondering why mama wants you home. Why I want you home.” Vera stops in her tracks, and Lorraine stops a few feet ahead of her, turning to look at her with furrowed brows. She’s hugging herself now, displeasure evident on her features. Lorraine raises a brow at her.

“What? ‘Cause I’m not clicking my heels walking down the sidewalk over it? If I wanted to go dancing I’d just go dancing.”

“That’s not—” Vera huffs, pinching the bridge of her nose. “That’s not what I’m saying. It’s not about the dancing. It’s just…” Kissing her teeth, her gaze refocuses on Lorraine in full. “There’s so many things you could be doing. If— If it’s just about getting away, the WAC’s always taking new girls. Or if you hate the skirts then I’m sure one of the boys down at the shipyard could get you some kind of job up close and personal with everything. I don’t get this.” There’s another silence between them: and I haven’t forgiven you for keeping it a secret, either. Vera doesn’t have to say it for Lorraine to know she’s thinking it.

I didn’t keep it a secret, Lorraine wants to say. But if I did, are you really that surprised?

Her mother and Vera were disgruntled, when she’d gotten the date that she had to be in Texas in the mail. Her brothers were confused. Her father smiled though. He was pleased, proud, and it felt like a crown of laurels had been placed upon Lorraine’s brow. It was the only thing she could think about, focus on: how her father proudly announced that his daughter was a fighter. How he’d apologized for being unable to come see her off because he still had to work, and the boys still had school, and her mother, too, was working. But none of that mattered when he smiled at her like that two weeks ago, because she’d done something unprecedented.

This is hers. Not something inherited from her sister, or something she’d have to pass down to her brothers.

She doesn’t say anything like that though.

“It’s not yours to get,” she says instead, with a slight furrow to her brow. “You don’t have to. I don’t want you to. So stop it.” Vera flinches at that, at her, and Lorraine feels a little bad for slamming the door in her face like that.

Or trying to, anyway, because of course her sister’s wedged her foot in the entryway.

“You’re going to war, Lorraine,” she sighs out.

“I know.”

“Do you?” she takes a couple steps towards her, reaches to take Lorraine’s hands in both of hers and squeeze them tight. “Do you know what that means? ‘Cause I don’t. I don’t even think Papa does. But I know that Mr. Lombardi downstairs screams at night sometimes and he fought in Europe back in ‘16. And I know that Alexei’s friend Charlie was drafted, and he’s barely even eighteen. And—” she catches herself, taking in a tentative breath, looking at Lorraine’s hands in her own. “What am I supposed to do if you’re screaming and I don’t know what you’ve seen?”

Her voice is softer now, unlike the sharp tone it took earlier, talking about dresses. That was the tone she used to use when telling Lorraine to be polite and speak to the neighbors, bid them a good morning when she didn’t want to, or to tuck her shirt into her skirts. This isn't that. It isn't Vera trying to… fix her, file down her edges.

Lorraine doesn’t really know what this is beyond worry. And she’s never really known how to handle Vera’s worry.

“You’re working yourself up again,” she sighs out, “I’m not gonna… come home screaming, or something. And even if I did, I’d figure something out.” 

Vera pulls a face, nose scrunched and eyes falling to a crack in the pavement beneath them, perfectly divided between their feet. Lorraine swallows, clearing her throat and retracting her hands, crossing the crack and nudging her back in the process so they take up less of the sidewalk. She’s never been good at assurance.

“I’ll try to write once a week.” Lorraine offers, bumping Vera’s shoulder. She says nothing, though, eyes still fixed on the pavement as they start walking again. Her free hand curls around Vera’s arm, keeping her close as they make their way down the sidewalk. Eventually, Vera takes her arm properly.

This is one of the rare moments where they look like a proper pair: big sister and little sister. Vera’s wearing heels today, so they’re the same height again, both willowy and blonde-haired like their parents. If anything, the physical similarities between them only make their differences more apparent to Lorraine. Vera’s easy smile, her warmth, her patience — all the things that seemed to skip a child. Even now, her stomach twists with envy at the way her skirt flutters about her calves effortlessly and gracefully. Lorraine’s wearing pants today, and a pair of Vera’s old shoes.

Part of her thinks that this is how it’s always going to be. Vera was always going to put down roots, and Lorraine was always going to get too big for the apartment they were raised in.

They slow to a stop about a block away from the station, and Vera looks at her again.

“Do you want me to wait for the train with you?” she asks, and for a moment Lorraine falters, feeling small again. A kid tucking herself behind her sister because she doesn’t want to say hi to the cousins and uncles she doesn’t recognize, following her around like a little shadow and waiting patiently at the door to be picked up by her at the end of a school day.  She swallows hard, finally feeling that lump in her throat and involuntary sting to her eyes.

“I’m okay,” she manages.

Vera holds her stare, and then drags her in all at once. Skinny arms wrap around Lorraine’s middle, and chin hooking over her shoulder to squeeze tight. Lorraine is slow with her return of the embrace, hands splaying out against her back and pressing against her there, letting her face bury in Vera’s hair as she tries to steel herself again. She can feel Vera’s tremble, the shaky breath against her ear and they say nothing.

Papa’s at work, and mama, too, and the boys are at school.

It’s the first time Lorraine’s felt bothered by that.

Vera doesn’t say what she’s supposed to, all things considered. They hold each other for a long, silent moment, and she lets go, picking up Lorraine’s bag to put it in her hand. Smiling at her in a way that’s familiar, knuckles going to brush against Lorraine’s cheek gently, dotingly. She can see the glassiness in Vera's eyes, and knows that worry-laden tears will be sliding down her cheeks the moment Lorraine turns away. 

“Don’t forget to write,” she breathes out.

“I won’t,” Lorraine confirms.

She walks forward first, doesn’t dare to look back, but can hear her sister’s retreating steps all the same, louder than anything else as she makes her way towards the station.

How to Lose a Lucifer In 10 Days. 17 [Appleradio, Radioapple]

Step 17: Get hugged by him

They landed on the bed of the closest free room at the hotel. It was just the same as all others that would recieve the guests, so the bed had to be widened to accomodate for the two of them. The hotel wasn't designed with couples in mind. A simple flick of the wrist from the king took care of that.

Alastor sighed when there was space for him to lay on his back, rubbing his eyes. He merely moved a little when Lucifer snapped his clothes away for newly made pajamas, moved the covers out of the way and finally, a few second later, Lucifer accomodated on top of his chest. His hand found the blonde head in the dark and pet him absentmindly, grunting a little when magic covered them again. The texture of the sheets wasn't right, the natural sounds of their bayou was lacking and there was no chimney giving a faint green glow. Nonetheless, the bed didn't feel empty anymore and that alone could compensate for everything else. The clones and their games had been a nice distraction, but it wasn't the same as the real deal, not by a long shot.

"Thank you" said Lucifer, nuzzling against his chest. He took a long swift and exhaled, as if finally letting his body to fully relax. His own sweet smell was something Alastor could not stop being aware of ever since they were back from their date. "You did so well tonight, babe. I know that it made Charlie happy."

"You two teaming up against me was unfair and low" grunted Alastor with a half hearted scowl. Four sets of big yellow eyes staring at him like puppies kicked under the rain. How was anyone supposed to resist such an attack? "I hope you are aware of that."

"You were not going to listen otherwise" Alastor huffed, both recognizing it was probably true and also that he didn't care. As if that made any difference. "I didn't want to go either with a bitter note, babe. You don't think even a little about how you didn't tell the other Lucifer goodbye?"

"No" lied Alastor and exhaled between his teeth. "Maybe. Still two different cases."

"Is it?" Lucifer's hand raised to his head, lazily scratching the side of his ear. Alastor turned his head over the pillow ever so slightly to find his contact. "You know, I was kinda jelous too that Lucifer got to help you out with the baby at first."

Alastor snorted despite himself and stared down at the top of Lucifer's head, that he could barely see. As if sensing the movement, Lucifer lifted his face so his eyes reflected the small amount of light, like small mirrors.

"You are joking" declared Alastor. When his husband just kept staring, he continued, incredulous: "What did you thought was going to happen?"

Normally know that Lucifer was jelous over him would be a little treat for the ego, something to appreciate. It happened so rarely as it was, since it only took him one glance to know what Alastor felt for him. But that month had been so particularly stressing and awful that the mere idea was nothing but absurd. Suggest that he would burn down the whole hotel and dance on it's ashes in front of their daughter would have made just as much sense.

"I don't know" Lucifer groaned, laying a cheek against him "I already know you like one Lucifer so, hey, there is a Lucifer right there and I am not around so… " He shrugged under the cover, not wanting to finish the thought.

"Why didn't you say that before?" Alastor was reviwing their conversations through the chain and not once, that he could remember, did Lucifer ever had anything bad to say about his other version. Just that he trusted him to keep helping their baby and protect them if it was needed. Once again he had to confront the fact that when Lucifer wanted to, he could lie just as much as the worst of all sinners.

"Because it was stupid. I know it is stupid" The hand that was on his ear lowered to his temple, brushing his hair back gently with his knuckles. "I wanted to tell you that I get why you don't like the other Alastor. I really do. But that is not his fault, just like it's not the fault of that other Lucifer. They are both just doing the best they can" Lucifer sighed, nuzzling his face against his chest as if he wanted to bury himself there. "It's kinda funny. The first nights I was here he kept looking at me as if I could drop dead in front of him and he would not care. You never looked at me like that, not even when we first met."

Alastor could not imagine himself doing that. The first time he ever saw Lucifer he thought he wanted a fight. Then he found they were actually married, that it was a mistake brewing long before he arrived to hell and decided on the spot it was best to keep on the king's good side to keep being married. There was no real point for him in which Lucifer could mean just nothing. One way or another, Lucifer was always someone to look out for from the moment he came into this life.

"Your other version wasn't very keen on my flirting either" remembered Alastor, chuckling when Lucifer lifted his head again. "He asked what was wrong with me. Even Husk was shocked. As soon he tried to attack me, I suddenly understood why."

"He what?!" Lucifer lifted himself up by his hands at each side of Alastor, his eyes glowing red in the dark. A puff of fire came out his mouth that illuminated his face, so hautingly beautiful that Alastor was left without a breath. "Did he dared to hurt you?"

Alastor for a second could only stare back at him, hearing the beat coming of his chest. His sleep had been efectively obliterated into smitherins. He swallowed as he struggled to find his ability to speak again.

"No?" said dumbly. When Lucifer sneared, another puff of fire scaping between his sharp teeth, Alastor forced himself to shake his head before trying again. "I mean no, of course he didn't. He thought I was a fallen send by Heaven to try to take down the hotel, but never got to do anything to me. I would have reacted the same if I thought there was a threat."

"There was a threat. Him" pointed out Lucifer, not with fire this time, but his eyes still glowing.

"I still thought it could be you under a spell. Terribly confused, but remembering Charlie somehow" Alastor reached out to cup Lucifer's cheek. "When it turns out it wasn't, I probably looked at him the same way as that other Alastor did to you. If not worse."

Lucifer held the hand against him with his own. It took one blink for his eyes to come back to normal, reflecting the light in the dark.

"I am sorry" Lucifer sighed, turning his head ever so slightly to kiss the palm. "That was dumb."

Alastor rised up, holding the porcelain face of the king with both hands so he could get to his mouth easily. He licked the lips to taste his teeth and the fact they were still warmer than usual from the fire had his heart racing for a moment.

"Indeed" whispered, bringing him back to the bed, ruffling the hair on his nape with his fingers. "Don't ever stop being dumb, my love. Be jelous. Tell me that nobody else can touch me like you can. Tell me that you would destroy anyone who tries and mean it. Not even another king can have what you do. Only you, forever."

Lucifer chuckled, his smile wide and sincere.

"I was trying to say that is nice that now we can be friends with them. Being friends is good" laughed before kissing him back, lips pressing against each other at the same time. Alastor nuzzled the side of his face as he hugged him close, well aware of the muscles on his shoulders, the way his back was moving. So much power contained on that small figure between his arms could feed his insanity for millenia. Under the covers, he slipped one of his long legs to reach the side of Lucifer's thigh, almost trembling himself with need. "You got me sidetracked, babe."

"Mmm" Alastor bite softly on his ear, earning himself a most delectable little shiver from Lucifer. Only he had that power over his king. A fair trade in his opinion. His entire life for these moments. "But now that we are on this track, why deviate from it? As you said, I have been so very good tonight. I let you play with your little friend without saying a word. I should get a reward for that."

"You have and you do" Lucifer agreed, accomodating between Alastor's legs as his hands rubbed the sides of the deer demon right under the shirt of his pajama. Each button instantly coming up open until Lucifer could bury his face on the fluff of his chest without any barrier, deeply breathing him in. When he started kissing his way down to nuzzle his stomach, his breath was hotter and mixed with dark smoke. None of his shadow clones were able to do the same. "What do you want, babe? Anything, is yours."

Alastor was just waiting to hear those words. It felt like he had been waiting on them for years. The same ones that made him sign the contract to give up his soul back in Heaven, the responsible for his own falling. He knew that Lucifer meant it now just as much as then.

"Mark me" sighed, trapping the devil between his legs now. Lucifer didn't resist the pressure and lowered himself down until his stomach was against the mattress. His warm body was like furnace, a comforting heat that he wished would burn. "Use me, fuck me, fill me. Remind my body who it belongs to, my love. Do it in such a way that if that other Lucifer walked in here tomorrow, he would have no doubt about which king is the one I chose. Show everyone what only you can do. Can you do that for me, Lucifer?"

Lucifer huffed a small fire before coming in to make him taste it on his own mouth. He let the long tongue to go beyond his own, strangling it and holding it in place as Lucifer lifted his waist up, making his bottom dissapear as if they never existed. As soon his naked ass touched the bed again, Lucifer pressed a hand over his abdomen and he felt a expanding warmth, like a all wrapping hug. A faint golden glow expanded over his stomach and sides.

"To protect the baby, honey" explained Lucifer, rising up with one arm. Alastor didn't bother to point out they were probably out of risk, he knew that was going to be a losing battle.

In the other hand of the king he was holding the extreme of the golden chain attached to his shackle. The collar felt smaller than before, pressing against his throat with each breath. In all other ocassions Lucifer called upon it was for the sake of communication, nothing else, so it was always looser. Now he wanted its presence to be known, inescapable, a constant reminder. Lucifer came down to give him an impossibly soft kiss, as a spell to somewhat calm his heart. Nuzzling his cheeks against his, his next words made his soul quiver: "I am going to break you apart like a fucking twig and then have you screaming until your throat gives out asking for more. Is that what you ask me, babe? Are you sure about that?"

There was only one answer for Alastor, boiling behind his teeth with the unquestionable confidence of erupting lava.

"Yes, my love."

They were in hell, after all. It only made sense embrace the fire with open arms.

On the morning, the residents and staff at the hotel were greeted with a vision they haven't seen on the last few days. The little king of hell attending moving around as he prepared the breakfast for everyone else, his magic only occupying on turning pans when his hands were occupied in another. From the ovens it came a delicious smell to fresh cookies being prepared.

The king was positively beaming as he worked, humming along with the upbeat melody coming from Al's staff supported next to its owner. That and the fallen himself were the only true new additions, comfortably leaning over the counter as he kept over the king, holding a mug of scolding hot coffee between his hands. Not at all inconvenienced or bothered by the thin black tail that had wrapped itself around his exposed forearm like some kind of bracelet.

Without his suit jacket on, the slow gentle wagging of his tail up and down was out for anyone to see. It wasn't the only thing that was evident for anyone with eyes.

"Good morn…" greeted Charlie before she took on Al, gasping. She came running to see his neck, lacerated with closed wounds across it, long, deep and clearly visible over his skin. "What happened? Are you okay?!"

Lucifer's shoulders jolted in place. For a second he seemed completely paralyzed as Al just showed more teeth on his pleased smile. The music continued on, uninterrupted. It had been all his idea in the first place, so of course he didn't mind receiving the attention he was looking for.

"Good morning to you too, princess! Why, I feel wonderful if anything!" said with a sing song voice, taking her hand to give it the briefest of kisses on her knuckles. "Full of energy and ready to take on the day, my dear."

"A-are you sure?" said Charlie. Her eyes concentrated on the neck a second more before noticing the bracelets on his wrist, that he never wore before. Angel and Husk came in, attracted by the enticing aroma. "Did… you and Alastor fought or…" suggested, her voice turning small at the implications.

She had been the one to set up that the two faced each other. If anything hurtful or dangerous happened during it, then on her eyes that was her fault. Al exhaled indulgently and cupped her cheek.

"Dear, he wouldn't have landed a hit even if he intended to" said cheerfully, patting her red dot softly. "No, there was no confrontation at all last night. The game was done and then we went to bed. Nothing more exciting than that, so please don't waste your time worrying about it."

Charlie's big eyes blinked.

"But…"

Unlike her, the pornstar just needed one second to understand what was happening. Husk, likewise, just groaned the entire way to his chair and rubbed his eyes, as if he wanted to erase the knwoledge from his brain through his eyelids. Angel came to put his handa on Charlie's shoulders, moving her away.

"Charlie, sweet cheeks, I have so much to teach you" sighed and then pointed a finger to Al, as if finding a new level of respect he didn't have before. "You. They look gnarly. Were you about to pass out?"

"I have no idea what you mean" said Al with a slight shrug, smiling in direction to Lucifer.

Angel nodded his head. He let out a low whistle at at seeing the bracelets.

"Nice job, king" commented to Lucifer, who shrunked his head between his shoulders.

Thankfully for him, Angel took Charlie on the side and whispered something into her ear. Lucifer did not hear what it was, nor he wanted to know, but he could just imagine what it was and that was almost worse. Their own Charlie would know already to ignore things like that regarding her parents, wether she understood what they meant or not, but clearly this Lucifer never had his daughter used the same way. Lucifer send a mental apology to his daughter from another dimension-.

When Al came out behind him to rub his shulders, casually hugging his neck, he looked up to see the most cat like pleased smile on his husband that had been there in a while.

"You better be happy now" warned, failing to sound as annoyed as he intended to.

A big portion of the reason why was that he wasn't annoyed at all. Not in the slightest. He couldn't bring himself to that state when his sense of pride was inflated everytime he saw any marks made by him on his husband's body. The big bad scary radio demon with a reputation of untouchable carrying around the scars of their passion with as much naturality as their engagement ring was just the perfect recipe to have him sigh dreamily, to glow shinier than the sun itself at the eyes of any high ranking angel. It was a better prize that any crown, any jewell, and infinitely more valuable. He knew that Al knew as well, that is why his husband was sure that his request wouldn't go unheard of.

Al chuckled. The rumbling on his chest vibrated against Lucifer's head. The familiarity of both his proximity and his sounds relaxed him deeply. If he closed his eyes, he could almost believe that they were already back at home. Sooner or later Emily would come to greet them good morning. Alastor would have his broadcast and he could listen sat at the couch in front of his control panel, probably reading on some royal bullshit meanwhile. Maybe Charlie would come to tell them about the new activity she thought for the hotel and her tiny adorable antlers would make him wish to pet her head, as always. They could talk about the next dinner with Evelyn, prepare the menu, think of a new pun to make her laugh with.

"An acceptable amount" purred his husband, tilting his chin slightly to nibble on his cheek. "The meat is about to burn, dear."

A ding came out of the oven. Just like that, the dream was broken. They were not back home. There was still work to do before they could. In this reality, the one they were both stuck in, it did smell like he needed to pay attention again.

"Ah, fuck" Lucifer grunted, turning around one of the huge chunks of meat in the pan. Al lifted his arms, laughing softly as he went for the kitchen mitten to take out the cookies himself. He didn't really need the protection, but got used to use it anyway for the sake of their Charlie learning by example. "Yeah, yeah, very funny. This cut is yours, by the way."

"I pressumed as much" Al chuckled, putting the tray on a side to cool down.

He reached a finger over Lucifer's arm to press on the cut of meat that almost, just almost, was about to blacken. On the other fire there was another cut of deer being cooked, but his was bigger. Privileges of being married to the chef and have his child. The meat was still soft and when he brought the finger to his mouth, Lucifer followed the movement with his eyes as he started serving the plates. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, all started flying off the counter to reach the table, to the hungry appreciation of everyone else.

"Delicious" declared Al.

"That is right" Lucifer nodded to himself.

He turned off the fire of both cut. The not as big covered it up so it wouldn't lose freshness, while the other one went into a plate with some extra blood sausages on the side.

Al was putting the cookies on a plate to be grabbed on. When those were done, he went to grab the milk of the fridge.

"His little shadow just dissapeared" whispered when passing next to Lucifer.

"Oh, it did?" Lucifer served the meat on a big enough plate with one hand, rubbing his low back as they moved to the table. His tail changed from being around the arm of the demon to his waist. "Just let him have his breakfast too and then we can go."

"You know, a grown adult that can't cook for himself is rather shameful" huffed Al, sitting down.

Almost everyone was chowing down all the food or talking amongst each other. Lucifer snorted, looking up to him.

"I seem to remember someone leaving raw carcasses all over my kitchen" reminded him Lucifer, putting the meat in front of his husband and conjuring up more hot coffee for his mug. It had taken a good while for Alastor to grab a taste for actually done meals. At some point he had to have his kitchen curtains replaced because they had taken to the smell of rotting bodies. "Not to mention right now I just cook for you."

"And here I thought you were just treating to the father of your child out of the goodness of your heart. It looks like I have been mislead" Al sighed dramatically, flicking his wrist to make appear a hankerchief to put around the neck of his shirt. "I didn't know I was walking into a gotcha. Should I second guess everything now?"

Lucifer chuckled, patting the arm of Al on the table. He looked down for a moment as his index brushed under the bracelet. If someone were to take them off, they would see the yellowed marks of restraints contrasting against the dark skin. Lucifer blushed when he could feel Al slightly shiver and exhale ever so softly. No doubt remembering why they were there, just like he did. It had been a while since he had the chance to go all out with his husband that it was almost nostalgic.

"I need two hands to eat, dear" said Al, his half lid gaze betraying the calm tone of his voice.

"Sorry" Lucifer smiled, lifting his palm. As soon he did, however, he felt Al's foot locking with his under the table. Lucifer moved his chair with magic to not make any noise until their knees came into contact. He lifted a hand to brush briefly his finger against the marks on the neck. "You are so fucking hot right now" said in a low tone against his shoulder, kissing it.

"You are so clingy" murmured Al back after clearing his throat.

He cut his first bite of meat without looking at him, back straight against the chair. The perfect image of undisturbed dignity.

"Do you want me to give you some room?" Lucifer smirked, lazily rubbing the side of his husband in a small circle.

"I did't say that" Al filled his mouth with the meat, his ear going flat for a moment at his obvious enjoyment of a good meal. "You can do whatever you want."

Lucifer saw the tail wag behind him and had to actively repress the impulse to squeeze it on his hand just to see what sound he could gain from it. He would have to comfort himself remembering on the ones he already managed to get last night.

"I thought I already did" added and Al hummed, not disagreeing.

"Have your breakfast and shut up" said with a slight twitch on his smile, fighting the impulse of extending it.

Lucifer snorted. He kissed the shoulder of Al before he heard the voice of Charlie, perking.

"Hi, Alastor, good morning!"

Lucifer turned to see the radio demon coming into the kitchen, a nod of recognition dedicated to the princess.

"Hey, buddy!" greeted Lucifer, snapping his fingers to make appear the cooked meat in a plate at the table, in front of an empty chair. It was still smoking from the heat. "There is some coffee in the pot if you want. Eat all you want and then we are off."

Alastor sniffed the food as he made his way to get his coffee. Only when he had a full mug, reheated by his hand, and picked up the newspaper that Niffty had picked up for him, he turned to the chair to sat down. At no point apparently he had dedicated a look to Al, who returned the favor ignoring him as well for the sake of his own breakfast.

Lucifer grabbed some of the cookies and started eating. This was probably the most peace he could expect right now.

"So you all really think this is the one?" asked Angel, mouth full until he finished talking and then swallowed. "Back to home for good? Because let me tell you, short king, your cooking is going to be severely missed."

"Aw, thanks! We hope so at least" said Lucifer. He sighed, holding his chin on his hand. "We need to make a big announcement and celebrate properly, don't we?" commented, grinning to Al as he rubbed his back.

"Indeed" Al took a sip of his own mug. "Back at home our daughters don't know about their sibling yet" explained when he noticed the question in Charlie's eyes.

"They don't?" asked Charlie, frowning slightly.

Al shrugged.

"I was waiting to tell them with Lucifer there. I told Lucifer he could announce it on this side becuse I thought he would be back soon enough" And to enjoy vicariously with the resulting chaos the news would cause, added Lucifer mentally. As if he could forget the big laugh he had when he relied to him everyone's reactions. "In all honesty I wasn't expecting it to take this long" He ate another moutful of meat before continueing, casully. "We also need to think about our wedding, of course."

"Really?" said Lucifer, taken by surprise. When Al nodded his head simply, he smiled big and bright. "I thought you would want to wait until after the baby was born."

"All the more reason to do it sooner than later" said Al, sending him a side glance. "I want to be able to dance comfortably with our daughters and enjoy the party as it should. I think we took enough time already as it is. Don't you agree?"

"Fuck yeah, babe" Lucifer lifted himself from the chair to kiss his cheek and when sat down again, hug his side.

Al's staff emitted a soft jazz tune as he turned his head to kiss the crown of the king, giving him a pat in the shoulder before returning to his meal.

"I thought you would say that you didn't want to have a kid out of wedlock or something" commented Vaggie. "Officially, I mean."

"Oh, if anything that would be fun!" commented Al with mirth and a dismissive handwave. "It gives me an excuse to maim anyone who dares to look down upon our child because of something silly like that. No, this whole new wedding is nothing but a formality. But at least it can be a fun formality for a change."

"Well, I think is romantic!" Charlie emitted a tiny squeal. "How was your first wedding like?"

Lucifer froze instantly. He looked up desperately to Al and thank goodnes, his husband decided to be merciful for once.

"Oh, nothing that extravagant" said Al calmly. "A small ceremony and a witness. Sign our names down and done, we were married. Our lives were tied together already, so we didn't feel like making a big deal out of it" He shrugged with naturality. "If we are having a party now is mostly for the sake of our daughters getting to participate as well. We don't really need a paper to know what we are to each other, right, darling?" added, lifting the chin of Lucifer with a finger.

"Not at all" Lucifer took the hand on his and pressed his lips against the knuckles.

The smile of Al twitched slightly in a effort to contain it.

"So corny, my king" said with a half lid look.

"Always, babe" Lucifer winked an eye playfully.

A moment of silence passed in the kitchen. Charlie cleared her throat conspiciously and tried to make conversation with Husk about what he would do for the day.

"Fuck, bliss post kink is real" sighed Angel Dust, shaking his head. "I need to get into that shit again."

Lucifer blushed a bright golden. Al cupped his cheek and patted it indulgently. Alastor, who end up one chair away from the spider demon, tilted his head at hearing that.

"What does that supposed to mean?" asked, as if he was assuming it was a phrase that young people said and thought it silly already.

"Oh, I can explain!" offered Al, perking up.

"No, you can't!" said Lucifer quickly, a little too loud for his own taste. Al barely covered his mouth as he giggled. "It means waking up to have a good day!" said, glaring at Angel as if daring him to contradict him. "With your partner!" added, just in case Alastor decided to start using it himself.

Angel snickered, but only for a moment as he shrugged.

"As the king said, Smiley."

Alastor looked already bored of the rest of the conversation.

"Ah. Very well" expressed and that was the end of it.

Eventually the rest of the residents had to leave the table. Charlie moved over to Lucifer as she was grabbing the plates for Niffty.

"So… is this the last breakfast we will have together?" asked, looking down.

Lucifer rised up from the chair, enchanted the plates to float towards the tiny maid, and then hugged her tight.

"I hope so" said with a chuckle, and squeezed her harder. "But I loved meeting you, sweetie. I know your Lucifer must be so fucking proud of you and is dying to get back" He gave her a kiss on the cheek and finally let her breath again, holding both her hands. "Maybe if things turn out alright, we could visit someday! Weirder things have happened, so never say never!"

Charlie gasped, but smiled all the same.

"I would love that" said sincerely and Lucifer had to hug her again, less stronger than before but no less sincere. Now Charlie had the chance to pat his back in return as she saw beyond the king. "You are welcome too, Al. And the baby, whenever they are out! I bet they are going to be the cutest!" squealed.

"The cutest that ever was!" affirmed Lucifer, looking to Al.

"Why not" said the grey demon with an easy smile. "If the circumstances are right, a visit wouldn't hurt."

Charlie kept her smile, her hooves moving in place. Lucifer saw her face, saw everything that she was thinking all over her body and grinned.

"Babe, do you mind a hug?" asked out loud and Charlie blushed slightly, lifting both her hands.

"Oh, no, please, it's okay! I wouldn't want him to do anything that could make him uncomfortable, that is fine."

"Of course not" said Al, pulling out his chair back.

Lucifer took a step to the side, putting both his hands on his back. Charlie was still trying to reassure them that she didn't really needed it, that it was fine, he didn't have to force himself, when suddenly black tentacles pushed her towards the taller demon's front. His hug was far from being the breath stealing one of Lucifer, but it was gentle and without reservation.

"You are kind for worrying, dear, but there is no need" said Al, smiling down at her. He had more than a few years to get used to hugs from his little fawn. This Charlie, as different as she was, did not raise at all the same rejection as other people did. If she was open to that kind of contact coming from him, he wasn't going to move away from it either. "Thank you for recieving us both. We deeply appreciate it" finished, giving her a rub between her shoulder blades.

As he separated from her, he flicked her nose. Not too strong, just enough to erase the dazzed look of her eyes, replacing it with a slight frown from not expecting it.

"Now, now, if you don't mind, my husband prepared a good meal I have yet to finish" declared, grinning wide and patting her head. Only Lucifer realized that it was the same spot between where their Charlie would have her tiny antlers. "It was my pleasure meeting you, dear."

"Likewise, Al" said Charlie, sincerely. "Good luck today."

When Charlie retired from the kitchen, sending them a wave from the hallway, Lucifer came back to sit next to Al. Now it was only them two and Alastor, who had almost cleaned his plate at that point. Once his cut of meat dissapeared, her cleaned up his mouth with a napkin and gave the plate to an anxious quick Niffty.

"How you doing, buddy?" asked Lucifer suddenly. Alastor stared at him. "Ready to kick some ass?"

"I always have some space for dessert" commented, adjusting the front of his suit jacket.

Al huffed. Lucifer pursed his lips, bracing himself.

"You know, you could also just sit this one out too. That is always an option" said Al cheerfully, arching an eyebrow in direction to the red demon. "My husband and I can handle it."

Goodbye, peace. It was nice while it lasted.

"I was wondering if that shouldn't be an option for you" replied Alastor with the same tone. Because of course he wouldn't throw the towell either. "You seem to had quite the confrontation last night, my friend. Someone on your condition shouldn't be risking themselves so much out there."

"Can we not" asked Lucifer, but he may as well talked to a wall when Al just made his radiophonic laughter.

"You talking about this?" Al pointed to the scars on his neck, narrowing his eyes. "You can believe me, my good fellow. These were not part of any confrontation. A monster attack, maybe. Would you perhaps like the details of how they happened?"

"Can we seriously not!?" Lucifer stand up quickly, the chair behind him stumbling back but miraculously staying upright. He clased his hands together, eyes closed, as if praying for patience. "We are all going. We are going to get the stupid ass stone. We are all getting our wishes. Everyone is happy. End of story. Are we clear on that?"

He saw to Alastor shrugging as he turned his face away. Al had straighten up his back on the chair and buffed. Lucifer brought the chair back and exhaled, holding up his temple with a hand. He could only hope that they could get the damn thing quick and get all this mess solved already. Too long he had spend away from home, but also, he didn't know how much they could keep this bullshit going before someone started pulling tentacles to fight.

When he noticed the red flash of Niffty coming to pick up the empty plate from Al, he finally turned his gaze and offered up his hand open on the table. Al looked at it as if considering ignoring it all together, but luckily for Lucifer's nerves, the grey demon put his black claw on top, letting Lucifer to close around it.

"I will compensate you when we get home" whispered Lucifer, bringing the hand closer to kiss his fingers.

Al nodded silently, taking him at his word. It was pretty clear he still didn't like any of this, but at least seemed willing to do it without more protest for the moment and he was going to be grateful for that. Al had to spend a month without knowing if he was going to see the father of his future child, a month with another Lucifer that was just wrong, a month aware that there was a literal growing issue on his body putting a limit on how long he could keep the secret, just for the sake of not worrying their daughters. He had ample reason to be stressed out already without also adding an Alastor he didn't know or trusted into the mix. And since Lucifer was the one asking him to add the extra Alastor anyway, the least he could do was to be understanding.

He activated his other ability for a second, just to see that Al was still shinning. He was, just the same as that morning, so Lucifer let out a sigh of relief and reached out to gently kiss his lips. A subtle, tiny bit of pressure answered him back before they separated.

"Let's go" said, squeezing their joined hands.

Alastor was not having a good day. Finally putting a name to the reason of his disease did nothing to stop the unpleasantless of being sick in the first place. If anything, it probably made it worse because now he was also pissed off for ever letting himself reach such a state. For a not really, legally, but actually, in any other sense that mattered, married man nonetheless. More than 80 years of conscious living only to end up on that position, where he couldn't do anything even if he knew what to do about it.

As if all of that wasn't humilliating enough, they also chose that morning to be all over each other again. His prepared meal, for once, served as little consolation. The small smiles of sympathy that Charlie was throwing his way almost made him retire to his room, plate in hand, and just leave his shadow behind to inform him when the pair was planning to go. If he still stayed there, it was purely out of pride and spite towards that other version of himself, who would love to have that kind of power over him. Yesterday he had already give him a win dissapearing from Rosie's emporium, no way he was going to give him another. This was supposed to be his reality, not theirs, and a reality where he kept running away for something as stupid as jelousy was completely unacceptable.

So he stayed and he endured the future marriage talk. He endured seeing how close they were. He endured thinking that other radio demon, for better or worse, did not seem to do it at all for the sake of being seen like on his first appearence. The looks, the whispers, the smiles, they never deviated from focusing on Lucifer or his food. He better than anyone knew what a sincere smile on his face looked like.

That made it all a little bit worse because it didn't only hurt, but it also made him envious with a curious tint. Would be also act that way if he had just chosen someone available? That was one question that had been sitting on the back of his mind since this Lucifer started talking about his partner, about the pregnancy, and he more or less managed to quiet down by insisting that they were clearly two different demons, that what they decided to do on their world didn't had to say anything about his own life or capacity to make the same choices.

But now that he saw the demon, or fallen, in person it was harder to keep pushing that notion on the forefront. The recognition of the traits they did shared was as undeniable as annoying. Was that the same case for Lucifer after all? Was there it really inside of their king always the capacity of being like this Lucifer and he just never noticed before? If he had done it, how much things could have changed?

And why was nobody talking about those scars on the grey demon's neck? Not even Charlie seemed that concerned about them, not when she was so close to them and the other demon seemed receptive to some portion of her sentimentality. He was sure too that shirt was covering the full extension of them, probably going over the shoulder and to the chest. Lucifer could do a good job making wounds dissapear, he knew that by experience, so he honestly could not understand why was he letting his own precious pregnant partner go around in such a state. It was his imagination or the other was also limping the slightest bit when moving around the kitchen? Maybe it wasn't as noticeable as everything else, and yet it was there, no doubt about it.

Not to mention the reaction of both of them when he pointed them out. Who is ever that gleeful when about to talk about a monster attack? It was all felt just so weird. But if none were to speak, then he would have to let the topic die, lest they think he was actually concerned or something as horrific as that. That other demon would love to have that satisfaction. All the more reason to not give it to him.

No matter, he had actual important things to think about. Like all the little demons that were assisting to the auction for the wish that corresponded to him. By the time that they were there, the entrance to the tunnels was already crowded with potential buyers covering the entire spectrum of wealthness: from the low lifers of the city that were going to be outbided in five minutes, but still had to try, to better put off demon assisting in suits and lowering themselves from limos. For that encounter, Lucifer didn't look out of place looking like the bllue shark demon that Alastor had seen before already. That didn't stop him from keeping a hand on the grey demon, though, nor seemed to faze Al himself.

The stone was merely one of the relics that were going to be put in display. According to the advertisement, they weren't promoting it either like a reality changing instrument that could fulfill every fantasy imaginable. It was just a cursed rock made since Lucifer's fall that had "a fuck ton of magic power", whatever they thought that was supposed to mean.

Al checked his pocket watch.

"They should be bringing it anytime now" said as his grinn expanded, revealing more teeth that it has humanely possible. "Should I start clearing the way, my love? Just to avoid us the trouble."

Lucifer took a look around. There were some guards at the entrance, making sure that the people coming in had paid their admition ticket and were not pushing each other as they descended the stairs. Nobody had come in with any children. For some reason Alastor just knew that is what Lucifer was checking for, before he nodded his head.

"Have fun, babe" said, patting the lower back of the demon.

"Oh, I will" promised Al, dissapearing into the ground before countless tentacles started stabbing people straight through their chest.

First the richer looking demons, but later not even the low lifers were sparred. It wasn't until a dozen or so bodies hit the floor and people could not avoid stomping on them that they started rushing in.

"Grab anything you want, buddy" said Lucifer, running up to the guards.

Alastor didn't managed to hear or see what he was doing, but as he started extending his magic to open a path for him there were a bunch of shootings in the air. He looked up in time to see all the guards breaking their own necks as they fell to the ground without Lucifer putting a single finger on any of them. For a moment he could only stare at their demise, before they were covered for even more body parts, corpses and panicking people, wondering what kind of terrifying power was that. His heart fluttered in his chest as his knees went weak just thinking what other horrors he never knew before could a king hide. Was it a power that only he had or it was intrinsic to all Lucifer? He would have killed to get an answer to that.

If only weren't for Lucifer running up to him, as an incomprehensible fear tainting the agressive shark features he was sporting.

"They have angelic bullets!" yelled over all other screams. "Why the fuck does everyone have those now?! Be careful to not let them touch you! If they do, come find me immediately!"

Alastor huffed, gripping to his sense of dignity to keep his composure.

"Do not worry, your Majesty. I won't give them the chance" assured, dissapearing into the ground.

Lucifer had the collar of Charlie for that ocassion, surely because Al would not trust him with it, but it was okay. He just needed to move to the point where they were going to recieve the stone and intercept it.

But just as he was about to reach it, the darkness around him became into something else. Suddenly it wasn't welcoming him anymore, pushing him out. When he materialized again on a long hallway, some people were already running from one point to another, but he could still clearly the green eyes glowing to him in the opposite wall.

"Going somewhere, pal?" was the low, static filled, growl from the demon. "I thought the plan was to stick together."

"Just trying to help, the same as you, my friend."

They both glared at each other. Right until Lucifer appeared running between them, rolling his eyes.

"I heard them talk. They are going to call the cargo back" said, jumping to a side.

His tail flashed like a blue thunder and the head of a guard came out flying, just as the body landed on the floor and Lucifer teleported away the gun that dropped from their hands. Until the point that they died, the gun was pointing to Alastor. Neither of them had noticed by keeping eyes on the other.

"How many of those fuckers did they hire?!" Lucifer breathed in, passing a hand over his head as if to ruffle the hair he didn't have in that form. "Let's go!" called, running further ahead.

"You go down, I go up" indicated Al with a snear, dissapearing before Alastor had the chance to reply anything.

The shadow of the grey demon started moving ahead in the ceiling. Even at the distance, Alastor could see that other shadow was bigger and darker than his. It didn't even looked like a shadow anymore, it was more like a piece of voice moving. He didn't gave it more thought as he summerged in the darkness destined for him.

At some point the hallway was dividing in two points, both equally deserted as far they could see.. They had already killed enough demons that there wasn't anyone coming or going to give them a clue of where there were people. Lucifer let the collar of Charlie swing on his hand, but it wasn't reacting to any direction. Grunting with irritation, he let his eyes glow in intense red.

"There are more people on that side" said, running to the left.

The shadow on the ceiling followed him. Alastor came out from the floor and send his shadow to them, while he himself ran in the other direction. There was no real reason for him to do that, nothing else than his own impatience and not wanting to stick around with the other if he could help it. He slashed the neck of another guard on his way, encouraging him to go further.

That is when he heard the first explosion.

The sound reverberated down the tunnel, the punch of the wind and dust managing to get to him. He stayed still. They were fine. Obviously. It was obvious they were going to be fine. A fucking explosion even on a tunnel wasn't going to be enough to do anything to the king of hell itself. Lucifer was made of something much stronger than that. The mere idea was absurd. There was no reason for him to worry at all. He had his own Alastor there to take care of things. They didn't need him at all. He should keep going, get his hand on the stone, make his wish and then pretend he just lose track of it. That was an easy plan to follow. A perfect one even.

So why was he running back?! Why the fuck did his feet kept taking him away from the fucking prize? There was no rational reason at all why he should care at all to reach the cave in that of course was going to be there. His heart squeezing itself inside of his chest was being stupid, clearly, and of course none of that mattered as he increased his size to push rocks away. The only issue is that as soon he pushed them out of the way, more rocks came to occupy its place, no matter how many tentacles he called forth to take them out.

They were truly too deep in the ground. Up in the distance he could hear another explosion, just as big as the second one. At that moment, his own shadow squeezed out from between a dark space between the rocks and joined him, all of its memories passing to him.

Lucifer and Al were way ahead when the explosion happened, right after they had started taking care of more demons pointing Carmilla Camine branded weapons at them. Lucifer had time to ask where was he before the ground under their feet trembled again and even more of the way they came in was gone. His shadow had quickly come to him when sensing his distress.

He put a claw on the wall as he let him exhale, inhaling through tightly pressed teeth.

They were fine. He was fine. He knew that already. Of course he did. There was never any doubt about it. Why was he being crushed by such relenting, heavy relief? Alastor shook his head, giving himself a second to bury his fingers between his hair. This was so stupid. Everything about him and his feelings and everything was so fucking stupid. Maybe he should wish to kill that part about himself already and then maybe his head could start working properly again.

Or maybe he should move again before he could lose the chance to get that wish at all.

When he started moving, there was another separation, but there voices coming from the left so it was easy to choose it. With his shadow back with him, it was easy to pass unnoticed as he twisted necks, crushed hearts inside of chest or just threw the demons out of the way. Their walkie talkies spoke of them being intercepted and how they needed to move everything away now. There eight trucks in total that were coming in with the valuable goodies that nobody was going to purchase that day now.

Naturally, the first reaction was to slash all the tires and destroy their engines the groud up. Alastor grabbed one of the only demons that was wearing a suit and twisted his knee until he told him where the stone was. Unfortunately, unless he liked the feeling of his bones crushing against each other until the splinters came out of his skin, he didn't know where was the one relic he was looking.

Clearing the area from the drivers fortunately was easy enough, just as his shadow was looking inside the trucks for what he needed. Only two were done when the whole ground shook under his feet. This eartquake was eve worse than the explosions ever were. Alastor barely managed to hold himself to the side of the next truck when he saw up ahead the floor moving, breaking apart to give place to what looked to be a black greenish force field with tentacles moving on top. It lasted only for a moment and when it dissolved, the full demon form of Al growled to the sky. But that wasn't a form that he could recognize. His own didn't had that many black eyes blinking from old scars on his arms and the new ones on his neck. His form wasn't as tall. But more than that, his form didn't have two large decrepit grey wings coming out of the bag. The feathers looking both so fragile and sharp at the same time. On top of Al's head, his antlers had twisted and grown to surround his head like a broken black halo.

That was the full extension of his power. A monster fallen straight from Heaven.

A mere point of white and red sat on his hand as he shook all over, getting rid of the debris still stuck on him. Lucifer, tiny Lucifer, even more tiny than ever before, stand up from his hand and it looked like he was saying something, but there was no way for Alastor to hear a thing. If it wasn't for the white of the king contrasting against the dark energy surrounding Al, he wouldn't be able to know he was there at all.

Forcing himself to move, Alastor came out another truck. His shadow had already searched on it and there was a safe box that it couldn't penetrate in no matter how much it wanted to. The material it was made with rejected its magic, so it had to be angelic steels. They had already used angelic steel to move that rock around. A crowbar that was laying nearby and some smacking later, the door of the box was open and there it was.

A big heavy rock hold in place by a silicon mold around it for protection. There was nothing impeding Alastor to grab it on his hand and so he did, immediately aware that wasn't at all any common rock. For one, it was far lighter than what he would have imagined for it's size, big enough to fit on his whole hand, but also there was an energy about it that there was impossible to ignore. It's perfectly black shiny exterior spoke about an infinite pool of possibilities, about entire universes it could tap into with just wishing it enough.

He could have anything he wanted and nobody could stop him. He could wish for all his problems to be over. He could wish for even all the things he never thought were even thought to wish for, and more, and there wouldn't even be any consequences for him, not if he didn't want them to be.

Why wasn't he wasn't doing that then?

It would be so easy too. Just wish for a better reality and say goodbye to this one. Let those two to find the rock turned milky white and come back to their own home with their own means. There was still another one existing in hell. They could take that one and then everybody could be happy.

Not immediately, of course. Al was going to be pissed, for sure, and if anything that was more reason to do it. But Lucifer was going to be sad for a while. Dissapointed even to see whatever trust he had on his honor was for nothing, a waste. He would regret not having made a binding deal with him when he had the chance. It would serve him right, actually.

Only a fool would trust a demon in hell.

Only an idiot would let that happen.

One would think that the reason why hell existed in the first place would know that better than anything in all of creation.

The only reason he ever saw anything else on him was for another Al, not because of him, not because of anything he was or did. He never asked Lucifer to look at him like that. Those expectation were just forced upon him. He had no obligation, no reason to meet any of them. He didn't owe Lucifer anything at all.

To the Lucifer that laughed and sang while cooking. To the Lucifer curled in the sofa and missing his family. To the Lucifer that smiled to another demon brighter and more openly that he had done since meeting him. To the Lucifer that didn't know the meaning of the word subtle even if it hit him in the head with a hammer and didn't care, because he was just that happy to announce everyone his new child. The Lucifer that winked an eye and joked and smiled and frowned.

And yet, his mouth wasn't moving. His hands were holding the solution to all of his problem and nothing was happening.

"Alastor!" yelled Lucifer, appearing at the entrance of the truck. When seeing him standing there, Lucifer wheezed, holding his chest. "Thank fucking fuck that I found you, buddy! Did you hear those explosions back there? They lock us in a dead end with a bunch of employees so, of course, Al had the idea of just pushing through the ground to get us out, which it worked, but I am never doing that shit again if I can help it" The king sighed, holding himself to the side of an antigue frame to regain his breath. "I think I am going to be cleaning dust off my ears for the next century."

Only at that point did he noticed the collar pulling from his chest pocket. The stone of Charlie, the one that started all the mess, was pointing outright towards Alastor.

"Is that…?" asked Lucifer, holding the collar out with one hand. The chain immediately pushed him forward, making the king to almost stumble to the floor, until the presend of Vaggie knocked against the rock that Alastor was holding. As soon as it did, the collar fell again, the finding spell having fulfilled its purpose. "Holy shit" said Lucifer, a smile extending all over his face as he laughed. "Holy shit, you found it! I knew I could count on you, Alastor! Come here!"

Before Alastor could properly say or do anything, the king wrapped his arms around him and squeezed, so tight that Alastor was sure something was about to crush inside his body, if the beating traitor that was his heart didn't do it before. Along with whatever trace of sanity he had left.

He became hyperaware of the king's proximity. Did he always smelled to honeysuckles at dusk of humid day before it rained? Was his touch always that warm that it felt it should be burning but it wasn't? His muscles were stronger than iron under his clothes, but the hands grabbing his back were soft. What a horrible cumulus of wonderful contradictions.

Too bad the moment had to be ruined by a dark figure slitherin its way towards them. The next moment Alastor blinked, a huge mouth under two pure black eyes opened up in front of him.
