Holiday prompt where hufflepuff!reader can't go home for christmas, and resigns herself to waving everyone goodbye. But Rena from Pristin surprises her by staying at school with her and making a little atmospheric christmas party just for the two of them?

A/N: I’m really a sucker for Hogwarts AUs, so I really really loved writing this prompt! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it!

You had always found solace in the astronomy tower , and this is where you found yourself now as it was snowing softly outside, and you could watch the students of Hogwarts exit through the main gate on their way to the horseless carriages that would bring them to the train station for the holiday break. It felt odd being one of the few students left at the school over Christmas, but then again it couldn’t be helped, your parents were both working tirelessly on some important job for the Ministry. You understood, but it was a little disappointing that you couldn’t spend the break with them. Sighing, you sat back on your hands and looked across the campus to the Owlry, which reminded you that you had some letters to send off to your parents as well, just a small note or two expressing your love for them and wish for their safety while on the job. You’d have to remind yourself to send them some more nearer to Christmas, they always liked to hear from you often.
It was now late in the afternoon, and you hadn’t yet left the tower, instead opting to read a few books you had brought with you up there, as thinking of your friends and family had begun to make you homesick. Though you didn’t get much done, as you heard footsteps bounding up the stairs nearly half an hour after you had started reading. It caught you off-guard - who knew you liked to be up here? Or was this also someone else’s favorite spot to run off to as well? You turned your head towards the stairway, and the next moment you were on your back, with a familiar Gryffindor on top of you.
 “Yaebin? What’re you doing here?”
“There was no way I was letting you stay here over Christmas by yourself.”
“That’s sweet of you, but what about your dad? He’ll miss you, won’t he?”
“I already talked to him about it, it’s all cool with him - as long as I study a bit while I’m here.. My grades are a little ‘lackluster’ as he put it,” Yaebin explained, pushing herself off of you to sit against the wall of the tower. “And I need to get some Quidditch practice in too - gotta stay on top of my game as Gryffindor’s best Seeker.” She added, putting emphasis on her ever-so-coveted title.
You laughed and sat up, crossing your legs. “I see, I’m glad you have your priorities straight Yaebin. Thanks for sticking around, I appreciate it.”
“No problem! It’ll be cool to spend the break here too for once, I’ve heard that the Christmas dinner is insanely good.”
“Oh so you actually just stayed here for the food huh? You’ve really got priorities, Kang Yaebin.”
“Ouch, I’m hurt, (Y/N).. I care about you too, y’know?”
You smiled before reassuring her. “I know you do.”

The next few days passed quickly, most of them were spent with Yaebin. Watching her practice, running around the grounds, playing board games, etcetera. It was a lot of fun to spend time with her, and very refreshing too. With so few students at the school now you could really appreciate the nice Christmas-y, cozy atmosphere the snow-covered campus provided.
The twelve larger-than-life firs now stood in the Great Hall, and the professors had decorated them with all sorts of magic-imbued ornaments for the students and faculty alike to admire. You and Yaebin had finally come in from her impromptu Quidditch training session for a late lunch and noticed the tree that nearly reached halfway up the wall. The next hour and a half was spent looking at every ornament you could see - in awe that something so elaborate could be done in an afternoon. Then again, magic was always enamoring to you - though you had been around it your entire life.
-
And then it was Christmas Eve. You ate breakfast, milled around the grounds, read some, and sent some letters. Yaebin hadn’t been around for most of the morning, which you thought was a little odd, but you brushed it off, as she had probably gotten up early to practice some more without telling you. That girl really loved Quidditch. But after lunch, she had finally showed up, finding you in the library.
“Hey Yaebin, back from ‘training’?” You called out to her in a teasing tone, using air quotes around the word “training”, speculating she had probably just flown around for an hour or two.
“I’ll have you know Madam Hooch was actually showing me some cool riding techniques - which I was gonna show you, but now maybe not,” She replied, elbowing you playfully as she pulled up a chair next to you. “I nearly beat my record time for a lap around the pitch.”
“Well I’m glad you’re back. Maybe sometime before school starts up again you can finally beat it; that’d be a nice stunt to show off to Nayoung. Her seeker would definitely have to step it up.” You mentioned, knowing the Ravenclaw Quidditch captain would get a kick out of Yaebin’s tricks and stunts, despite the fact they weren’t on the same team. They were good friends, after all.
-
As night drew closer, the students were called into the Great Hall for Christmas Eve dinner and consequent festivities. It was a lively event, with plenty of food to be eaten, wizard chess to be played, and jokes and stories to be told. The celebration went on for what seemed like hours, and as 10 o’clock was nearing, Yaebin had tugged you aside in the middle of one of Nearly Headless Nick’s tall tales.
“Hey, (Y/N), I want you to come with me for a while, is that okay?”
“Yeah, sure! I don’t mind.” You replied. And with that, you were being pulled by the sleeve of your robe across the castle.
-
You had soon come to the base of the astronomy tower, and with a gentle gaze and a bright smile from Yaebin, you were being led up the multitude of stairs to the top.
Once you had arrived, you were greeted with a truly heartfelt sight. A small pile of pillows and blankets, accompanied by lanterns and a battery-powered space heater Yaebin had brought with her for the school year. You noticed a miniscule Santa Claus circling the space with a bright red sleigh, and thought was a nice detail of her to add to the cozy scene. You turned to face her, grateful and nearly on the verge of tears.
“You didn’t have to do this, you know.” You said, taking her hand in yours.
“I know, I wanted to. I’d feel bad if you were too homesick, and I thought maybe you’d feel better about staying if you had someone here with you.”
Just being in the others’ presence felt as close to home as you could imagine, and your remaining feelings of homesickness were quickly forgotten with the next few hours being spent drinking hot cocoa, talking about what school was going to be like when it inevitably would start back up again, Quidditch, and pretty much anything and everything else. Near midnight Yaebin had brought her wand out, and after aiming it at the ceiling above the both of you, muttering an almost inaudible spell. When you looked up after shooting the Gryffindor a questioning glance, you noticed mistletoe begin to grow, with its green leaves and white berries soon stretching down the height of the room until it was just over the two of you. You gave her a soft smile as her left hand moved up to cup your cheek, and gently closed your eyes as she leaned in, her lips meeting yours in a chaste kiss.
 “Merry Christmas, (Y/N).”
